The remains of MRS. MINNIE ALLEN, who was killed in a railroad accident
near Monmouth, Illinois, instead of near Ottumwa, as was reported,
was
brought here for burial last Friday.
The funeral services were conducted by ELDER GILLADETTE at the Union
Church at 3 o'clock in the afternoon and was attended by one of the
largest congregations ever assembled on such an occasion.
The deceased was a granddaughter of JOHN MERRITT, of our city, and for
a
time made this her home. Her stay here was short, yet she made
many
friends who sincerely regret her early and untimely death. She
was
married to GEORGE ALLEN, of Bethany Junction, two years ago last August,
and had been with him on a visit to her parents, who live in southern
Indiana, when she met her sad fate. She leaves a husband and
a little
child and her grandparents to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate
wife and daughter. Peace to her memory.
