The Lamoni Chronicle, Thursday February 23, 1923

My great great grandfather's obituary:

JAMES ALLEN PASSES
Another pioneer citizen was called home Sunday evening when James Allen
passed from this life after a lingering illness of several months.  Mr. and
Mrs. Allen came here in the early days of Lamoni and reared a large family to
manhood and womanhood here.  They have lived here continuously since that
time.  Allen's Mill, remodeled and now operated by the General Supply Company
stands as a landmark.  Here Mr. Allen spent the best years of his active life.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen have enjoyed remarkable health and vigor for people of
their years, being able to keep up a home of their own until Mr. Allen's
recent illness, when their daughter, Mrs. Lund of Kansas City came to stay
with them.  She returned home about three weeks ago and Mrs. Williams,
another daughter, took them in the Liberty Home, where she is matron and
could care for them.
The funeral is announced for this Wednesday afternoon from Liberty Home,
Bishop Carmichael preaching the sermon.
