J. ALLBAUGH, One of Decatur County's Prominent Pioneer Citizens, Passes
Away.
JOHN ALLBAUGH, one of Decatur County's prominent and pioneer citizens
died, at his home on East Commercial Street, Monday morning following a
hard fall he received on Friday of last week.
MR. ALLBAUGH had gone out to the back yard at his residence about 2
o'clock Friday afternoon and upon returning to the house, slipped and
fell almost at the back door on the north. Little THOMAS BRADFIELD,
grandson of MRS. ALLBAUGH, who was there with his mother, MRS. HARRY
BRADFIELD, said that he would go out to the wood house and bring in a
stick of wood. When he opened the door, he discovered MR. ALLBAUGH and
called to those inside that Grandpa has fallen. The two ladies hurried
out and assisted him into the house. He told them that he was not
seriously injured and talked to them until about 3 o'clock, when he
began to grow dizzy. MRS. ALLBAUGH assisted him to bed and called Dr.
H.R. Layton. She also notified MR. ALLBAUGH's son, W.A. ALLBAUGH, who
arrived with Dr. Layton in a few minutes. MR. ALLBAUGH was unconscious
upon their arrival and remained so until death occurred at 6:20 Monday
morning.
He was eighty years, six months and thirteen days old at the time of his
death. He had been a resident of Decatur County for over fifty years
and had been closely identified with the business interests and progress
of the county. He served as a member of the board of supervisors and
proved a most able official.
The funeral was held at the home on Tuesday morning at ll o'clock and
interment followed at the Chastain Cemetery.
