J.E. ADAMS was born January 7, l853, in Davis County, Iowa; died at his
home near Van Wert, Decatur County, Iowa, October 6, l907, being 55
years and l0 months old. He was converted at the age of twenty-five and
united with the Baptist Church. He was at the time of his death a
member of Palestine Baptist Church, near Leon, Decatur County, Iowa.
MR. ADAMS had been a sufferer for many months from a chronic heart
disease, but during all this time was always cheerful and, though he
knew his end was not far off, was ready to go at his Master's bidding.
He leaves a wife, two daughters and three sons to mourn his death, two
sons having preceded him to the better life. The funeral sermon was
preached by Rev. Jas. A. Armstrong, from Rev. 2:l0, "Be thou faithful
unto death and I will give thee a crown of life." A large congregation
of sympathizing friends gathered to pay a just tribute of respect to the
memory of a good man. The services were held in the Mt. Zion Church.
Burial at the Freeland Cemetery, Psalm 37:37, "Mark the perfect man and
behold the upright, for the end of that man is peace."
