MARY CROUCH ARMSTRONG was born near Headcorn, in the county of Kent, England. When she was nine years old, her parents came to the United States, settling at Rochester, N.Y. In l850 she was married to JOHN C. ARMSTRONG. In l856, MR. and MRS. ARMSTRONG removed to Leroy, Ill., where they continued to reside for many years. MR. ARMSTRONG died on January 6, l888. To them were born five children -- four boys and one girl -- all but one of whom are living. MRS. ARMSTRONG continued to reside in McLean County, Ill., until l895, when she came to Iowa, since which time she has made her home with her daughter, MRS. E.P. HAMILTON, near this place. She died February l3, l90l, after an illness of about ten days with paralysis. She had, however, been in failing health for a long time.
She had long been a member of the M.E. Church and had lived a Christian life. Funeral services were held at home Thursday, February l4, conducted by Rev. J.Q. Hall, after which the remains were taken to Leroy, Ill., for burial. W.L. ARMSTRONG, of Leon, MRS. E.P. HAMILTON, of Garden Grove, CHAS. C. ARMSTRONG, of Cecil, Mo., and C.J.
