JOHN MURRAY ARNOLD was born at Tyrone, Steuben County, N.Y., Dec. 26, l846; died at Davis City, Ia., Oct. 20, l897, aged 50 years, 6 months and 25 days. When quite young his parents moved to Tippie, Ohio. Having lived at this place for a few years, they came to Garden Grove, Iowa, in l855, where the subject of this sketch lived until l880. He then came to Davis City, Iowa, where he has since lived.

He was married to MISS RUTH E. JACKSON at Garden Grove, Ia., Jan. 7, l874. To this union were born four children, one daughter and three sons, the second son having died in infancy.

He leaves a companion and three children to mourn the loss of a true husband and father. Two sisters and a brother survive him. As a citizen and neighbor, too much cannot be said of his honesty, uprightness and willingness to help those in need.

The funeral was conducted at the house Tuesday afternoon by Rev. G. E. Mitchell, of Columbia, Iowa. The remains were taken to Garden Grove for interment.
