AN ELOPEMENT. |
Decatur County Journal Leon, Decatur County, Iowa Thursday, January 15, 1891 Last Saturday afternoon, DUG GREEN, after making a deed of his homestead to his wife and giving her part of the ready money which he had, informed her that he intended leaving her and the same afternoon left on the C.B. & Q. train for St. Joe, in the company with a young girl of loose character. He leaves his wife with a babe only a little over a week old -- their only child. They had been married only two or three years. We had never heard of any trouble between them. GREEN, though inclined to drink to excess, did not bear a bad character and was in comfortable circumstances. What could have induced him to commit this outrageous crime against his wife and child is more than we can understand. Copied by Nancee (McMurtrey) Seifert |
