Decatur County Journal

January l4, l904

At high noon on Thursday, January 7th, a very impressive marriage

ceremony was solemnized at the residence of the bride's parents, JOHN W.

and LYDIA L. MOORE, in Franklin Township, by Rev. Sadie Gibbons, Pastor

of the Brethren Church at Crown Chapel, the contracting parties being,

MR. FRANK P. SHY and MISS EDNA F. MOORE. At the appointed hour the

bride and bridegroom marched into the parlor where a few relatives had

gathered to witness the ceremony. After ceremony and congratulations,

the guests surrounded the table which was almost groaning beneath its

burden of delicacies which the hostess knows so well how to prepare (Oh

that turkey!) It is needless to say that the guests did ample justice to

what was set before them.

After dinner the time was spent in song and listening to the most

excellent music discoursed by a remnant of the famous Fairview Stringed

Orchestra.

After the guests had departed and all had become quiet, amusement was

furnished by a troupe of friendly neighborhood boys who conducted

themselves in a gentlemanly manner, made music of such a nature and of

sufficient quantity, to "resurrect" the cigars, after which they

departed with another round of hearty good will.

On Friday a sumptuous reception dinner was given at the home of the

groom's parents, MR. and MRS. W.N. SHY of Decatur Township.

The bride is one of Decatur County's most successful teachers,

possessing those sterling qualities of disposition, which win the

universal respect and admiration of all with whom she comes in contact.

The bridegroom is a prominent jeweler and optician of Beaver City,

Nebraska, and is well and favorably known here, having grown to manhood

on his father's farm. He graduated from the Leon High School with the

class of '97. About two years ago, he located at Beaver City where he

has built up a fine trade and is enjoying prosperity.

The young couple expect to visit a few days with relatives here and

elsewhere, after which they will go to their new home in Nebraska. A

host of friends join with us in wishing them a long, prosperous and

happy life.

A. GUEST.
