Decatur County Journal
June l8, l908
One of the most enjoyable occasions of the season was the marriage of
MISS EMMA YOUNG, of Van Wert, and JAMES DUNN, of Des Moines, on
Wednesday evening, June l0, l908, at the home of the bride's parents.
The young people need no introduction to our community, having been
reared in this vicinity, yet on such occasions as that a brief mention
of their virtues is in order. The bride is the youngest daughter of
J.D. YOUNG and wife. She has grown to young womanhood among us and by
her gentle disposition and affable manners has endeared herself to all.
She has just completed the course in our high school, having graduated
from school life to Life's school, and has launched her boat on the sea
of matrimony. With the man of her choice at the helm ther is every
reason to predict a calm and peaceful journey over life's sea.
MR. DUNN is the son of MRS. ALLEN DUNN, of Crown. He is a young man of
sterling qualities and undoubted integrity. He is at present employed as
a clerk in the post office department at Des Moines. Though youthful,
they start their life together with flattering prospects and all join in
wishing them a sunny voyage with just enough squally weather to prevent
a deadly calm.
The bride was very appropriately gowned in her graduating dress of
embroidered mull, and with her blond beauty made a pleasing picture as
she stood with her fiance under the canopy and bell of roses where Rev.
Seth Samson, who has known them from babyhood, in a most pleasing
manner, pronounced the words which made this twain one. It was a most
impressive sight to see this young couple just starting in life, being
united by this aged patriarch at the close of life's day. The guests
are loud in their praises of the bountiful supper provided by this
popular hostelry.
The out of town guests were: J.W. DUNN, EVA L. DUNN, MRS. ALLEN DUNN,
ELMER DUNN, MR. and MRS. J.A. CUMMINS, ROY CUMMINS, F.M. CUMMINS, C.H.
DUNN, FAY DUNN, LENA and WILMA CUMMINS, GLADYS and HAZEL DUNN, of Leon,
MRS. ELLEN, MRS. CHARLEY DONALD and LIZZIE and ANNA DONALD, of Corydon,
FLORENCE BIVIN, Shenandoah, S.SAMSON, WINIFRED and ALICE WALSH, Des
Moines, MRS. M. JONES, Osceola, MRS. BELLE BULLOCK, H.J. IRLY.
The presents received were, two sets of silver tablespoons, five sets of
teaspoons, knives and forks, pillow slips, quilt, meat platter, towels,
table cloth, napkins, lunch cloth, berry set, butter dish, sugar bowl,
hand painted plate, sugar shell, butter knife, cake basket, tea pot,
burnt wood placque, gravy ladle, water set, roaster, meat fork and two
berry spoons.
