Leon Reporter Leon, Decatur County, Iowa Thursday, February 19, 1903 Baker - Leahy. At the residence of the bride's parents, MR. and MRS. D.P. LEAHY, in Franklin Township, at high noon last Thursday occurred the marriage of WILLIAM BAKER and MISS CATHARINE LEAHY, Justice C.W. Beck, of Leon, officiating. This was a very quiet wedding, only a few of the near neighbors and the relatives of the contracting parties being present to witness the ceremony. After the ceremony and congratulations all were invited to the dining room where a sumptuous feast was in readiness and to which all present did justice. The afternoon was spent in social conversation interspersed with good music. The pleasures of the day were concluded by a rousing old-fashioned charivari, conducted by about thirty boys of the vicinity. The next day a reception was given the newly married couple at the residence of JOHN BAKER, the father of the groom, at which time a number of friends and neighbors enjoyed the hospitality of MR. and MRS. BAKER and partook of a dinner that would have been fit for a king. MR. and MRS. BAKER will reside on what is known to old settlers as the Jake Martin farm on Little River. The good wishes of their many friends will be with them. -- J.F.G. Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert "With permission from the Leon Journal Reporter" March 4, 2003 |
