Chamber of Commerce Slogan for Leon

The Committee selected by the Chamber of Commerce Board met Feb. 1 to select the slogan for Leon. There were 41 entries. The winning slogan was announced at the Chamber meeting Feb. 3 at The Homestead Inn following the dinner.

The slogan selected was "For a Lifetime, or a Day, It's a Great Place to Stay - Leon," submitted by Rodger and Gayle Gatton.

Slogans submitted were: "The Hub of Success, Opportunity, and Progress," "Leon - Programed for Progress," "Where Prosperity and Friendliness are a Way of Life," "The Deer Capitol of Iowa," "Leon Lives, Live, Support," "Produce in This Progressive Community," "Leon - A Progressive Future Today," "Proof of Positive Planning - Community Program," "Leon, Looking Good for Good Living," "Legislative Assembly of Justice," "Leon - Southern Iowa's Most Progressive City by a Dam Site," "Community Common Rights Society," "Lead Ever Onward Now," "South Central Iowa's Regional Challenge," "Leon - A Great Place to Come Home To!," "Only Cooperation Meets Our Goal," "Live Enjoy Our Progress Now," "Eagerly Onward Now," "South Central Iowa's Monumental Achievement," "Lovely, Enlightened, Ongoing, Neighborly," "People's Pride Society of Common Rights of Hope," "For a Lifetime of a Day, It's a Great Place to Stay - Leon," "Center of Rainbow Valley," "Leon - Today's Progress, Promise, Future Security," "Leon in the 80's," "Leon in Your Future," "Leon, City of the 80's," "Leon Growing in the 80's," "Leon Progress in the 80's," "Leon Moving Forward," "Leon the Lion Hearted King of Southern Iowa," "Moving Ahead in Leon," "Giant Steps with Leon," "Leon's Vision of the Future," "Leon's Pride in the Success and It's Future," "Leon's Progress in the Future," "Leon's Progress, Promises Future Prosperity."

The forty members and guests heard the update on Little River Watershed by Robert Fulton. Notice to bidders will be placed the last of March with a meeting for bidders in April and in May bids will be opened. Construction will start in 30 days. The dam will be built yet this year or early in 1984.

Jack Van Larr sent a report to Chamber concerning the 1983 Manpower/unemployment Survey. Because of the necessity of having all eight counties on the line together for the survey, plans have been delayed for the survey to be completed yet in February. However, definite dates for training, volunteers and conducting the survey are set.

On Thursday, Feb. 24 training for volunteers in Lamoni and Leon will be held at Crown Colony 9 a. m. and the Leon Community Center at 2 p. m. Anyone who indicated a willingness to volunteer as a phone surveyor should attend one of these trainings or let Mr. Van Larr know if there is a conflict. The more volunteers, the fewer families each one has to call.
