The Lamoni Chronicle
Lamoni, Iowa
July 13, 1905

J. C. SINCOE was in town by seven o'clock Thursday morning from his farm six miles west and one mile north of Lamoni. He came in for twine for his son J. H. SINCOE, who was trying a new Deering binder, purchased of Grenawalt and Yost. Mr. SINCOE said the binder was a "hummer" and that harvesting with it was not much like "ye olden time." Mr. SINCOE recalls the days when harvesting was done with the cradle and rake, and well remembers the first McCormick self-rake. With all the revolutions in farming, Mr. SINCOE has also changed. He no longer has to bend his back over the old-time implements, nor does he have to handle modern ones. He owns a fine piece of Ringgold county land. And though declining years have left their mark on his brow, his eye has lost none of its former luster.
