A press dispatch from Mobile, Ala., says: JOHN E. GAUNT of Garden Grove, Ia., committed suicide in this city Aug l by taking morphine. The unfortunate man was found in Monroe Park about noon in a comatose condition, and was immediately conveyed to the city hospital. Every effort was made by three physicians to resuscitate him without avail. The deceased was a Mason and had a receipt from Grand Secretary Lambert of Louisiana for dues paid to that order. Papers on his person show that he has a brother, EDWARD GAUNT, living at Leroy, Ia., and that he has $l,300 in the Tiffin Bank of Garden Grove, of which S.S. Stearns is President.

GAUNT was known as a high liver and is said to have spent $2,000 in the last two months. His father is reputed to be quite wealthy. The remains are held by the Sisters of Charity, subject to the order of relatives.
