Leon Reporter, Leon, Iowa About a month ago, an information was filed by CLARK BECK, of Grand River Township, in Justice C.W. Beck's Court, charging HENRY CREES and LEWIS WELDON, sons of prominent farmers in the northwest part of the county, with burglarizing his barn and stealing some harness. A few days before the information was filed, CREES and WELDON left this county and went to Big Piney, Wyoming. Sheriff Wolever ascertained their whereabouts, and securing a requisition, requested the sheriff of that county to arrest them, which he did and wired Sheriff Wolever that they were in custody, last Thursday. On Friday, Sheriff Wolever started for Evanston, Wyoming, the County Seat of Uinta County and secured his prisoners, arriving here yesterday at noon. They were arraigned before Justice Beck yesterday afternoon, both pleading not guilty and waiving preliminary examination and were bound over to the Grand Jury under bonds of $l,000. WELDON gave bond and was released returning home with his father on the afternoon train. CREES is in jail in default of giving bond, but is trying to arrange a bond and will probably succeed this week. The accused have retained V.R. McGinnis to defend them and will fight the case to the end. Copied by Cordelia Suzann |
