Leon Reporter, Leon, Iowa 'Marshal of Grand River Prefers Charges Against Two Citizens.' -------------- JOHN EDWARDS, a barber of Grand River was brought before Judge Parrish Monday, an information having been filed by R.G. Brown, Marshal of Grand River, charging him with being an inebriate. After hearing the evidence Judge Parrish ordered EDWARDS confined in the inebriate ward of the insane hospital at Mt. Pleasant, for the term of two years, to which place he was taken Tuesday by Sheriff Martin. EDWARDS is, when not under the influence of liquor, a quiet and industrious man, but gives lots of trouble when drinking. He has taken both the Keeley and Willow Bark cures each time straightening up for a time but soon went back to drinking. Marshal Brown also filed an information against GEO. STONE, a well known farmer and stockman of Decatur Township, alleging he was also an habitual drunkard. STONE was served with the warrant by Sheriff Martin who brought him to Leon Monday afternoon. STONE resisted the effort to send him to the asylum and retained Hoffman & Jackson to fight the case. They asked Judge Parrish for a continuance, which was granted and the hearing was set for July 3. STONE was released under $500 appearance bond. Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert |
