History: Westerville Cemetery has also been known as Cole or Bradshaw Cemetery. Theron Westervelt and his wife, Angeline, came to Decatur County in 1853 from Ohio. A town (later known as Westerville) was laid out in 1854, but there is some question whether Theron Westervelt named it Westerville (for he was the first postmaster) or if it was first named Milford after being laid out as a town by William Henshaw.  The Westerville Cemetery is located about 2 miles northwest of the town (which is no longer in existence) on land owned by Theron Westervelt.  The earliest tombstone burial was 1877, but a small earlier burial ground (with burials from 1861-1882) was also located on Westervelt land, northwest of the Westerville Cemetery.  (See Westervelt Cemetery.)
