History: Samuel and Julia Metier came to Decatur
county in 1854. In 1856 a neighbor asked Metiers if they could bury
their little daughter on his high land. Other burials soon followed. The
Metiers have an interesting monument built like a log cabin in the
middle of the cemetery. (#5-17) There are many old markers, but the
cemetery is in current use and well taken care of. History: Deed #67 Sept. 11, 1888 From: S. Metier (single) To: Geo. W. Stiles, W.M. McVey - Trustees “Said land to be used and occupied only for cemetery purposes.” |
