Garden Grove, Iowa
James J. EVANS, the nominee for county recorder, was born in Burlington, Iowa, forty-nine years ago, when the state was then a territory. He located in Garden Grove in 1859, and when 17 years of age enlisted in the Third Iowa Cavalry, but was rejected account of his age. He then enlisted in the Ninth Iowa Cavalry and served in that organization until the close of the war. Mr. EVANS was appointed postmaster at Garden Grove under the Harrison administration and served in that capacity for four and a half years. Such was his popularity that the democratic patrons of the office petitioned another term as postmaster. Mr. EVANS will make a splendid recorder and his election is assured by a triumphant majority. - Leon Journal.
