JOSEPH N. SMITH
JOSEPH N. SMITH was born in Fayette county, Ohio, Aug. 3, 1855, and died at
Long Beach, Cal. on Aug. 3, 1922, the anniversary of his birth, aged exactly
67 years. With the family he removed to Iowa in the spring of 1882, residing
just north of Leon, on the well known SMITH homestead.
In December 1919, with his brother and sister he moved to Long Beach, Cal.,
where he made his home till his death.
He was a life-long member of the Presbyterian church, having been reared in a
truly christian home, and he entered the church in his early boyhood. He was
faithful to his religious obligations as he was to all others, and was
sincerely Christian in every relationship of life. For many years he was one
of the most faithful and active members of the Leon Presbyterian church and
his strong convictions and faithful service meant much to the church at this
place. His was a life that always stood four-square for all that was right
and good.
The funeral services were held a the Presbyterian church. Rev. T. F.
CAMPBELL, pastor of the church officiating. Interment was in the Leon
cemetery.
