The William H. Akers Family

William H. Akers, son of Benjamin and Mary Jane (Gunter) Akers, was born in Decatur County near Decatur City, November 22, 1855, and died July 19, 1935.

On February 17, 1878, he was married to Mary Jane Hickman, whose birthday occured on July 4, 1863. She was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Hickman. She died in 1939.

They lived in Decatur County their entire life with the exception of two years which they spent in Ringgold County.

After returning to Decatur County they lived on a farm south of Grand River for many years and raised their familyThere were six children: Hallie A., Harry L., henry M., Jesse F., Lizzie L. (Akers) Boord and Elmer O. (Hallie and Harrie died at an early age).

Elmer O. Akers, the only survivor of the family, and his wife, Myrtle (Bryant) Akers, farmed thirty years in Ringgold County; and they are now retired and live in Grand River.
