Peter Brennaman (born 1841) came to Iowa in 1853 at the age of twelve with his parents, Henry and Esther (Cryder) Brennaman. He was the oldest of five children, the others were: Sarah (married Frank Shields), Mary (married Nelson Eaves), Blair and Roland. His father owned the site of Grand River. When the town was formed he sold them 70 acres, retaining 10 acres. His house was on this 10 acres, and is still standing. Supposedly, this is the oldest house in Grand River, and is the 1981 residence of..... Peter enlisted in the Union army in 1862. After three years in the service he resumed farming. He married Elizebeth Quiett. They had two daughters, Cora (married Asbury Gard) and Nellie.
