The O'Grady Family

The ancestors of the O'Grady family were early settlers of Richland Twp. north of Grand River. There has been a continuous line of descendants living near there up to the present time (180). The first home of the family was 5 miles N.W. of Grand River, about 1/4 miles north of the O'Grady Cemetery on the road presently known as "Ridge Road." The location lies between Sand Creek and the Grand River. The Denham School was a few rods to the north of the home, and many people of this and other areas received their early education there.

Patrick O'Grady (b. in Ireland, 1820), d. 1899) and wife Margaret (McNamara) O'Grady (b. in Ireland, 1836, d. 1895) immigrated to New York in 1851, living there three years. They came to Chicago and lived there 15 years. Mr. O'Grady was a pliceman on the Chicago police force three of those years. Children-John, Michael, Edward and William-were born in Chicago. The family bought land in Iowa in 1860 and came to Iowa to live in 1867 where children-Patrick, Mary Ann (Gilreath), and Stephen B. were born.

Stephen B. O'Grady (1876-1950) married Jennie Conwell (1880-1939), daughter of George and Mary (Moran) Conwell. To this union three children were born:.....
