CHARLES K. HALL, farmer, section 32, Garden Grove Township, was born in
Huron County, Ohio, October 6, l835, son of Isaac and Lucilla (Kellogg)
Hall, natives of Onondaga County, New York. He was reared a farmer, and
has followed that occupation through life. When he was nine years of
age he had the misfortune to lose his father, by death. His early
educational advantages were good, and he has always been closely
identified with the school interests of Decatur County. He purchased
eighty acres of land, entered with a land warrant by his grandfather,
and now owns l60 acres. He was married in Hancock County, Ohio, in
l863, to Rachel A. Thompson, daughter of William Thompson, a native of
Ohio. They have one child--Racine D., who graduated in l884, at the
Parsons and Jefferson College, Iowa. Mrs. Hall's maternal grandfather
was in the war of l8l2. Mr. Hall enlisted, in l86l, in Company L, Third
Iowa Cavalry. He served two years, and was discharged on account of
disability. He was at the battles of Huntsville, Sand Spring and
Limestone, and was mustered out at Ironton, Missouri. He and his family
belong to the Presbyterian Church, of which he is deacon.
