
Ebenezer Price, born 20 Oct 1828 in Ohio. Was a 49'er during the Gold Rush, one of a group of young men that called themselves "Jayhawkers." Secured the NW 1/4 Sec. 18 Franklin Twp., Decatur County, Iowa in 1851. Married Sarah Melissa Tift 16 Sept. 1858 in Illinois. Civil War veteran, 39th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. Served from 1861 until the end of the war. Marched to sea with Sherman and was in the Grand Review in Washington, DC. One story has his regiment as part of the guard at Abraham Lincoln's funeral. Ebenezer returned to Iowa, farming, and the raising of his family until his death from acute appendicitis on 6 Oct 1872.
