Diamond School No. 7

Grand River Township, Decatur County, Iowa
     
The original Diamond School was a log cabin. Because it was impossible to heat the little cabin during the winter months, classes were not held during this time. A second schoolhouse was built of brick. The brick was made by Joseph Crees, Sr. who used clay from the nearby river bank. The school was called the Diamond School because it stood southwest across the road from Joseph Sr.'s home.

This brick school was later replaced by a new school, located a little farther from the original site, and was also named Diamond School. This third schoolhouse is being used, as of 1981, as a rural community building.
