  Wilma Lucille Baker born June 26, 1916 Grand River, Ia. Married June 16, 1940, Grace Methodist Church in Des Moines, Roger William Haines born August 31, 1916, son of William and Emily (Bufkin) Haines.

They started their life together in Des Moines with Roger working for Haines Sheet Metal Company. In 1942 they moved to Owatonna, Minn., where he worked for King Ventilating Co., then to La Crosse, Wis., where he worked for Trans Co., and back to Ames, Ia., where he attended college. In June 1953 they moved to Albuquerque, New Mex., and bought a home and have been adding on it since. He is [a] consulting engineer with Paxton and Bridges.

Wilma attended grade school in Osceola, Crestonb and Des Moines, graduating from North High School in 1933. She attended Drake University and graduated in 1938 in Fine Arts Dept., majoring in piano. Has taught piano lessons since she was 15 years old. Taught music in Gilbert Public School two years and also at Milford Township Consolidated School. Was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon Sorority and Pi Kappa Lambda Fraternity, both honorary.

Roger graduated from Marshalltown, Ia., High School in 1934. He taught at the Defense Training School at West Tech in 1941 and 1942. Graduated form Iowa State College [present-day Iowa State University] at Ames, Ia., June 15, 1953, with honors in Enginggering Dept. He is a piano player and has won several trophies at chess. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi Fraternities, honorary. He won several scholarships namely: John Morse Memorial $500.00; Alcoa $200.00; Iowa State College $200.00 and Merit Scholarship. Wilma and Roger both play with the Symphony Orchestra, Wilma playing cello and Roger the cymbals and other percussion. They are both members of the Methodist Church and sing in the choir.

  Julie attended grade school in Ames, Ia., and then in Albuquerque, New Mex., where she graduated in 1959. She plays piano and flute. She was a Girl Scout for 5 years, including Brownies for 2 years. She is active in M.Y.F. and sings in the Methodist Church choir of which she is a member. She attended 1 1/2 years of college in Albquerque. Julie has her wedding date set for July 16, 1961.

  Roger attended school in Ames, Ia., and then in Albquerque, New Mex. He was a Cub Scout. He had polio in September, 1944, but left no ill effects. He plays French horn and is active in M.Y.F. of which he is State President. Will graduated from high school in 1961.

  Margaret (Peggy) attends school in Albuquerque. In 1961 is in 4th grade. She had Perthy's disease in her hip and wore a brace for a while, but recovered o. k.

  Rosemary is in 2nd grade in Albuquerque Grade School.


  Richard Blair Baker (Dick) born September 12, 1917 Decatur Co., Ia. Attended grade school in Creston and Des Moines, graduating in January 1936. He went into the Iowa National Guard when he was 18. Married May 1, 1937, Bette Boggs born February 16, 1918 in Ft. Dodge, Ia., daughter of Frank and Katherine (Markham) Boggs. She was graduated from North High in Des Moines in June 1936. Bette worked for Mill Owners Insurance Co. several years and taught arts and crafts in Adult Education for a couple of years, was also leader of the Bluebird Organization.

They began their life together in Des Moines and he worked in his father's store. He was in World War II for 4 years, 11 months. Bette was with him in Texas part of the time he was in this country. He had a bad arm and wasn't able to go across with the 113th Calvary Division that he was with first, and spent quite a lot of time in the hospital. While he was overseas, she and their son lived with his parents. He was Staff Sergeant of the 6th Armoured Medical Division. In 1951 Dick and his father bought a Super Valu store in partnership on Southwest 9th St., in Des Moines, and Dick managed it until in 1960 [when] they sold it. Dick and family moved to Shawano, Wisconsin and is manager and owner of a Super Valu store there, just opened in January 1961.

He is a member of Isaac Walton League and she is active in the TTT Organization. They are both members of the Presbyterian Church. They both enjoy fishing and camping out.

Transcriber's Note: Richard Blair "Dick" Baker died April 9, 1993, Shawano, Wisconsin. Dick and Bette were interred at Westcott Lake Drive Cemetery, Wescott, Shawano County, Wisconsin.

  Margaret Katherine (Katie) Baker  b. July 31, 1946   Des Moines, Ia.

  Larry attended school in Des Moines, Ia., was a cub scout for three years. Had rheumatic fever in 1950, but recovered completely. He played in the Babe Ruth League and football in Lincoln High. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church. Was graduated from Lincoln High in 1960. The year of 1960 - 1961 he attended college at Drake taking Liberal Arts, plans to major in Business. Has wedding date set for June 12, 1961.
Transcriber's Note: Larry Richard Baker continued his education at Michigan State University. He followed his grandfather and father into the grocery business, owning several stores; retiring in 2002. He married June 12, 1961, Des Moines, Iowa, Edwina "Winnie" Luthe. Larry died at age 73 at his home March 8, 2016. [Obituary link at bottom of webpage.]

  Katie attended school in Des Moines, Ia. Was a member of Bluebird and Camp Fire organizations. Is a member of the Presbyterian Church. In the summer of 1960 she oved to Shawno with her family and is a freshman in that school. She is assistant editor of the school paper and is cashier in her father's Super Valu store.


  Lucia Virgene Baker born February 28, 1922 in Osceola, Ia. She had her schooling in Des Moines and graduated from Roosevelt High in 1944. She had nine years of tap and ballet dancing instruction and taught two years. Lucia worked for Bankers Life Insurance Comapny for one and one-half years. Married September 1, 1941 in a church wedding, James William Gorman born March 9, 1922 in Buffalo, New York, son of Jack and Janette (Ryan) Gorman. Jim graduated from Dowling

      Catholic High School for boys in Des Moines in 1940. He spent two years in active service in the United States Navy.

In October 1946 they moved to California. Jim worked for the Sun Telegram and then for Proctor and Gamble Co., and later began work for the Reynolds Metals Co., of which is now Sales Manager. While living in San Bernardino, for about four years, he was president of Jr. Chamber of Commerce, a member of Rotary and president of Lutheran Brotherhood. Lucia worked as secretary of the church and at the present time she is taking a course in Business English at Pierce Collge. They are both members of the Lutheran Church.

Transcriber's Note: Lucia married second Elmer Alfred Gross, born January 13, 1917, the son of William and Margaret (Pfaff) Gross; died June 29, 2007, Chandler, Arizona. Lucia Virgene (Baker) Gorman died at age 82, December 2, 2004, Sun City, Arizona. Lucia and Elmer were interred at Sunland Memorial Park, Sun City, Arizona.   Dennis, or Denny as he was called, attended school in San Bernardino, Calif. He was a member of club scouct and played the accordion. He was drowned accidentally May 18, 1951, and is buried at Mountain View Cemetery at San Bernardino, Calif.

  James Randall, known as Randy, attended school in San Bernadino, Calif. He played the clarinet. He was drowned accidentally May 18, 1951, and is buried at Mountain View Cemetery, at San Bernardino, Calif.

  Janet, or Jan, attended school in San Bernardino and is now in the 8th grade at Canoga Park School.


  Daniel Arthur Baker born April 12, 1926, Creston, Ia. Attended school in Des Moines, Ia., and was a 1948 graduate from high school. Attended Jr. College in Emmetsburg, Ia., in 1949 and Music School in Chicago in 1951. He was in the U. S. Army for 18 months in 1945 and 1946, spending 12 months overseas. Was working in his father's store when he married October 26, 1952 in the Chapel of St. John's Lutheran Church Sally Huddy born October 21, 1932 in New Jersey. They were divorced in 1953. [Handwritten note states that Sally's birth year is incorrect.]

Dan has worked as a salesman for Warner Brothers Records in Southern California. He was manager for the music department in Woolworth's and is now in San Francisco working for Robbie's Decor Company.




  Beverly Ann Baker born February 9, 1934, Waterloo, Ia. Attended grade school in Waterloo, Ia., and in California. Was a 1952 high school graduate of Big Bear Lake, Calif. She attended Fullerton Jr. College 2 years and the University of California at Santa Barbara, California, one year. In January 1956 she became an air stewardess for United Air Lines and was stationed in Seattle, Wash., where she met and married Robert Gerhart Hacker born December 22, 1928 in Sioux City, Ia., son of Gerhart Peter Hacker and Bessie Marie

      (Williams) Hacker. They were married May 17, 1958 at a church wedding at University Lutheran Church in Seattle, Wash.

Bob attended Jr. High at Sioux City, Ia., Bremington High School and graduated 1946, Bremington, Wash. He attended Seattle University in 1958 and is now working as [a] real estate salesman. Bob was in the Army in El Paso, Texas from January to November in 1951, and in Germany from November 1951 until January 1953.

Beverly was Past Worthy Advisor of Rainbow for Girls. They are both members of the University Evangelial Lutheran Church, United Synod, Seattle, Wash.

  Conee Louise Baker born January 1, 1937 Waterloo, Ia. Attended school in California. Was a Past Worthy Advisor of Rainbow for Girls. She was Snow Queen of Bear Valley and Miss Apple Valley Queen in 1953-1954. She was a 1955 High School graduate of Big Bear Lake, Calif. She attended Santa Barbara College one year and in the fall of 1956 began working as [a] receptionist for Western Air Lines. Married February 6, 1960 at a church wedding to Frank Radford White _______ youngest son of Mr. & Mrs. John R. White of Pasadena, California. Frank is a graduate of the Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and from Pasadena City and Glendale Colleges.

They live at 811 North Maryland Ave., Glendale 6, Calif. Frank is employed by United Air Lines and Connee is with the Western Air Lines.


  Carol Jean Baker born December 23, 1939, Waterloo, Ia. She was a 1957 graduate of Big Bear Lake High School. Attended Fullerton Jr. College where on June 2, 1959 and was awarded the Woman of Distinction Award and on June 15 she received her cap as [a] dental assistant. Married June 20, 1959 at a church wedding in the First Presbyterian Church at Fullerton, Calif., Roger Judson Ruland born September 1, 1936 in New York City, New York, son of Judson and Marjorie (Rothwell) Ruland. He attended Greatneck School in New York, noving with the family to Santa Ana, Calif., in 1949 where he attended El Modena School and graduated with high honors. He was given the American Legion Award and others. He was outstanding in sports and received letters for track, high jumping, and football while in Orange High School.

Roger is employed by Delco Battery Corporation in Anaheim, Calif. They are both members of the First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton, Calif.

      several rural schools and was a 1945 graduate of Grand River High School. Married May 8, 1948 Marjorie Jean Catuska born June 20, 1929 Bedford, Taylor Co., Ia., second daughter of Samuel James and Ester Maude (Healy) Catuska. She is a 1947 graduate of Grand River High School. She attended summer school at Simpson College in Indianola, Ia., and taught a rural school three years.

After one year on the Irwin Brennaman farm and two years on his father's farm, both near Grand River, they moved in 1951 to Lincoln, Nebr., where he worked for the Elgin National Watch Co., and she did office work for Western Electric. In 1956 they moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and he worked for the AiResearch Mfg. Co., until Feb., 1960. Now works for Sperry Rand. She worked for Standard Oil of Calif., in Phoenix.

In 1957 they bought a home in Scottsdale, Ariz., where they now live. He is a Methodist and she a Baptist, have been active in youth work in Scottsdale Baptist Church and helped with the building of a new church. She attended the State University at Tempe one year and the fall of 1959 drove a city school bus. Is now working at Motorola.

Transcriber's Note: Richard Franklin Foland died October 21, 2004, Gilbert, Arizona, as a result of a car accident. He was interred at Scottsdale, Arizona.

  Transcriber's Note: Gale Richard Foland is a primate keeper at the San Diego Zoo. He has appeared in several television productions regarding the zoo’s gorilla exhibit, including PBS’s documentary "Animal Attractions: Amazing Tales from the San Diego Zoo" which aired on the PBS series Nature [February of 2000]. Gale also worked in the hospital conducting research. [Articles about Gale Richard Foland at bottom of webpage.] Of note, Nerissa Foland is currently senior keeper at the San Diego Zoo and writes blogs about the animals at the zoo.

  Transcriber's Note: Bonnie Jean Foland married Rodney Lee Fulmer. Rodney and his father-in-law Richard operated a family business, “Foland’s Machinery, Inc.” in Gilbert, Arizona. Bonnie and Rodney are the parents of Jennifer Renee, Weston and Kayla.


  Robert Bruce Foland born February 20, 1930 Gohen Co., Wyo. Attended several rural schools entering the 8th grade at Grand River and graduating from highs school in 1948. Farmed with his father until November 1953. Married August 26, 1950 in Grand River, Baunadine Norine Perry born January 16, 1933, first child of Lawrence and Helen (Orfield) Perry. She married before finishing high school at Murray, Ia., and took a correspondence course and received her diploma in 1956.

They lived one year on the I. Brennaman farm, two years on his father's farm and two years on a farm near Weldon, Ia. The fall of 1955 they moved on a farm north of Davenport. On Dec. 23, 1956 they had a car accident that made it impossible for Robert to farm. In 1957 they bought an acreage at Osceola where they now live. He works for Kimball at the International Harvester Co., an is taking a correspondence course in electronics. She works as a nurse's aid on the night shift at the Clarke County Hospital. He is a member of the Methodist Church.

Craig Leroy Foland married first Shellie Lynn (Dudney) Hansen. He married second Julie (unknown).

Brian Keith Foland married Carmen Fae Friehage and were the parents of Robert Keith, Bruce Alfred and Dawn Elizabeth. Robert Keith Foland was born three months premature September 19, 1981, Leon, Iowa, and died October 24, 1981 at the age of 5 weeks. He was interred at Murray Cemetery, Murray, Iowa.

      the Mutual Insurance Company in Omaha, Nebr. Married March 22, 1959 at a church wedding at Trinity Lutheran Church in Omaha, Thomas Fred Lindeman born July 14, 1933 at Delmont, So. Dak., son of Phillip and Mary (Batterman) Lindeman. Phillip came from Russia when two years old. Tom attended school in So. Dak., and graduated from high school in 1952. He attended Dakota Weslyan College one year and worked for the Union Pacific three and one-half years. He is now a police patrolman in Omaha, Nebr.



  Elma Lucille Van Laar born Arpil 16, 1913 at the John Baker home. Married November 3, 1932 at St. John's Church in Waterloo, Ia., Martin Anthony Kraus born June 5, 1908 at Worthington, Ia., son of Peter and Helena (Kremer) Kraus.

Lucille attended Funktown Grade School and Grand River High School, graduating in 1929. She went to Waterloo and secured work at Rath's and worked until the spring of 1935. She went back to work at Rath's approximately 1942 and has worked their (sic) since, with the exception of a year when Majorie was a baby. She has worked in the office for several years.

Martin attended grade school at Worthington and 9th grade in Waterloo, Ia. At the age of 15 years he began work at Rath's Packing Company to make a home for his mother. She lived with the family until she passed away in September 1958. He is now foreman of the Sliced Bacon Department and has worked for Rath's 39 years.

Transcriber's Note: Martin Anthony Kraus died May 15, 1995. E. Lucile (spelling on her gravestone) died June 9, 2002, Waterloo, Iowa. Martin and Lucile were interred at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa.

  Marjorie born by Caesarian. She contracted polio in September 1955 and has had numerous operations to correct her inability to walk. In 1961 she is in the 3rd grade at St. John's School.


  Lena Lurene Van Laar born July 17, 1915 on the John McKee farm east of Grand River, Ia. She attended Funktown Grade School and Grand River High School and was graduated in 1932. She worked out and did housework until she was married September 30, 1933, Carl Franklin Brammer born east of Grand River, Decatur Co., Ia., December 27, 1913, son of Albert W. and Blanche (Foland) Brammer. [Blanche was Eldon Neal "Johnny Foland's sister.] Carl attended grade school at Diamond and to the 10th grade at Grand River High School. He helped on the farm.

They started their life together living the first year with his parents. They worked for Tyle Hembry and lived on the Peter Street farm. In July 1935 they moved to Audubon, Ia., and worked for the Aetna Life Ins. Co. The company moved them to the Legrand farm southeast of Des Moines, where they lived until 1938. They lived in the Jay community for five years. In 1943 they moved to the Joe Crees farm and lived in the Grand River community, living also on the Ralph Dorn and Frank Redman farms, before moving to Murray, Ia., in January 1949, where he bought the farm where they now live.

      Carl has served on the Murray school board four years. Helped reorganize the Murray Community School and helped plan for the new gymnasium. Was assistant 4-H Boys Club leader and also leader. Carl and Lurene celebrated their 25th Wedding Annviersary with open house in 1958.

Transcriber's Note: Carl was a member of the Clarke County Sheriff's Posse and served as captain in 1964 and 1965. Carl Franklin Brammer died February 4, 2005, Osceola, Clarke County, Iowa. Lena "Lurene" (Van Laar) Brammer died at age 98 February 25, 2014, Osceola, Clarke County, Iowa. Carl and Lurene were interred at Grand River Cemetery, Grand River, Iowa.   Carlene attended Diamond School her first semester and the rest of her schooling in Murray School. She was in Brownies for 2 years. Joined Boys 4-H Club in 1955, when 10 years old, and won Grand Champion and Reserve Champion Steer. She Twirls Baton and was [a] Majorette in the Murray Band. When 13 she acted as Drum Major for home coming. She is active in the Methodist Church and youth Fellowship. In 1959 she was permanent Drum Major. She graduated from Murray High School May 16, 1961.
Transcriber's Note: Carlene married George Walter Burnett, Jr.; they reside in Murray, Iowa. They were the parents of two daughters, Lynetta Ann and LeAnn Lurene Burnett.

  Cathlene attended school all her life in the Murray School. She was in 4-H five years and won several ribbons. She is taking ballet and tap dancing lessons. She is active in the Methodist Church and Youth Fellowship. In 1959 she was permanent Twirler for the Murray School Band. Is now a sophomore in school.
Transcriber's Note: Cathlene married first Merrill Gene Brown; they were the parents of two sons, Darrin James and Christopher Gene. Cathlene married second Gary Jones; they reside in Osceola, Iowa.


  John Francis Van Laar born April 24, 1919 on the Joseph Brown farm east of Grand River, Decatur Co., Ia. He attended the Diamond Grade School and Grand River to the 10th grade and quit to help farm. Married December 22, 1939 Verda Laviece Boles born August 20, 1920 near Grand River, Ia., daughter of Charley and Jennie (Foland) Boles. Verda attended Foland Rural School and Grand River High School, graduating in 1938. She attended Cedar Falls summer school 12, weeks and was married in the winter.

They started their life together with his parents for a few months, then moved to the Leffler farm where they lived six years. In 1946 John and his father purchased the Joe Crees farm and the family moved there where they still live. He bought the farm in 1959. John was a member of the Diamond School Board a number of years and is now a member of the Grand Valley Community School District. He is a member of the Grand River Lion's Club.

Transcriber's Note: John was a square dance caller for many dances in Grand River and surrounding communities. His sons were often band members (Jerle on drums; Jack on piano). John Francis Van Laar died at the age of 81 on September 2000, Leon, Iowa. Verda Laviece (Boles) Van Laar died at age 87, October 29, 2007, Leon.   Janna attended Diamond School and Grand River High School, graduating in May 1961. She played basketball until she hurt her knee. Her senior year she was basketball manager. Transcriber's Note: Janna and Jerry L. Hall were married September 12, 1965 and were the parents of one son, Kurt. Jerry was born in 1942 and died in 1996. He was interred at Van Wert Cemetery, Van Wert, Iowa. Janna married second Bill Priest; they live in Decatur, Iowa.

  Jerle attended Diamond School and in Grand River since 1958. In 1959 he had Bright's disease and missed several weeks of school, but he made up his work and made his grade, and is in [the] 6th grade in 1961. He plays baseball on the Little League Team. Transcriber's Note: Jerle graduated from Grand Valley Community High School in 1967. He entered the U.S. Navy October 20, 1969, and was honorably discharged August 6, 1971. Upon his return from the service he began working for Jimmy Dean Packing Plant in Osceola. He played drums for the Playboys Band from the mid-1960s until 1988.   Dorothy Harriet Van Laar born November 12, 1920 on the Joseph Brown farm near Grand River, Decatur Co., Ia. She attended Funktown and Diamond Rural Schools and Leon High School and was a 1937 graduate. She worked for Mrs. Lewis McClure during the summer and in the fall she went to California and took a business course several months. Then she worked at Harding Stencil Company before she was married in the fall of 1939 at the home of her Aunt Hazel, to Preston Peters born January 3, 1920 in Oklahoma. Dorothy worked at Harding's and Preston ran a truck for a laundry.

Transcriber's Note: Preston Arnold Peters, the son of Birlie and Lola Peters, died at age 86 years, January 11, 2006, Henderson, Clark County, Nevada. According to her brother John's obituary, Dorothy had remarried a Mr. Jenkins and was living in Hemut, California. Dorothy died in 2008.

  Raymond Wayne Van Laar born March 21, 1927 on the Kelly place near Oak Hill Cemetery. He attended Diamond Grade School and High School in Grand River, graduating in 1945. He played basketball in school and also with the baseball town team. He had an ear operation at Iowa City in 1949. Married December 27, 1948 Anna Louise Fitzgerald born July 27, 1930 near Mt. Ayr, Ringgold Co., Ia., daughter of John and Fern (Defenbaugh) Fitzgerald. Anne attended Grade School at Delphos, Ia., and the last 1/2 of the 8th grade and High School in Grand River, graduating in 1947. She attended 12 weeks of summer school at Indianola, Ia., and taught [at the] Diamond School three years. She played on the girls basketball team during High School.

They started their life together on the Brannaman [Brennaman?] farm, living there two years. They moved to the Arthur Foland farm east of Grand River and lived [there] two years. In March 1951 they bought the Frank Redman farm where they now live. Raymond is a member of the Lion's Club.

She attended grade school at Dunham and Westerville and high school in Grand River, graduating in 1949. She attended one year of college and six weeks summer school at Creston, Ia. She taught [at the] Comstock School two years.

  Norma Pauline Baker born February 18, 1917 near Grand River, Ia. Attended rural schools and at Grand River. Married October 17, 1934 [Hiawatha, Kansas] Giffin (Bill) Klyne Andrew born December 1, 1915, Osceola Ia., son of Allen and Louella (Wion) Andrew. He is a 1931 graduate of Grand River High School.

They started their life together in Grand River, later moved to California and back to Grand River. In 1940, they moved to the farm where they now live and own, as well as several other farms near them. Giffin was in partnership with the Andrew Construction Company for two years then went back to turkey raising. In 1956 they bought their own incubators and by 1957 were hatching 6000 turkeys twice a week (six months operation). In 1960 [they] set 74,400 eggs. They raise around 30,000 poults a year and produce their own hatching eggs. They also raise cattle, sheep and hogs. In 1961 they sold their incubators and sell eggs to a hatchery in Oneil, Nebr.

He was director of the S. W. Iowa Turkey Federation four years, the Director at Large four years. Her hobby is raising flower and taking 3D pictures.

She Attended East Elk Rural School and was a 1939 graduate of Leon High School. She attended summer school at Indianola and taught the Anaty and Jefferson Rural Schools. She is a member of the Leon Brethren Church.

They lived in Grand River and farmed the Switzer place with his father until 1943. They lived on different farms in Decatur Co. four years and in 1948 purchased the W. A. Evans farm south of Grand River. In 1956 they sold their farm and moved to Grand River where they now live and own. He works at the Andrew Turkey Farm and does carpenter work.

She is an active member of Methodist Youth Fellowship and joined the Grand River Methodist Church April 1, 1956.

  Charles Keith Baker born August 24, 1922 near Grand River, Ia. He attended rural schools in the county and as a 1940 graduated from the Grand River High School. He served 3 1/2 years during World War II, attended Great Lakes Navy Training School and was instructor at the Naval Air Technical Training Center at Norman, Okla. Discharged Mar. 1946. Married May 5, 1946 Gertrude Margaret Mahan born August 21, 1923 in Texas, daughter of James and Catherine (Lucas) Mahan. In 1929 her parents moved to Mt. Ayr, Ia., and here she graduated from high school in 1941. She was a telephone operator in Mt. Ayr four years and worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. at McKinney, Texas eight months. She is a member of the Mt. Ayr Christian Church.

They moved to the Tyle Hembry farm in 1947. In 1952 along with his farming, he worked for the M and M Livestock and Feed Co., and later started a feed store in Grand River. In 1959 he sold the feed business, moved to Grand River and was a salesman for Rath Feed and Fertilizer Div., for 19 counties for a year and a half. Is now farming.

Married at the Willard Tuttle home in Culver City, Calif., June 12, 1942 to Leona Dora Campbell born September 22, 1919 Hardtner, Kans., daughter of Charley and Goldie (Roots) Campbell. She moved to Slater, Wyo., at an early age where she attended school and later worked as a wrapper at the Smith Laundry at Wheatland, Wyo.

They lived in Culver City while Edgar served in the Army Supply Depot [January 9, 1942 - December 3, 1945]. In 1945 they returned to Wheatland and farmed for 5 years and moved east of Cheyenne and farmed 10 more years. In 1960 they moved to an acreage east of Cheyenne. He is [a] welder for Morrison and Knudsen Co., and delivers cream and eggs to customers in Cheyenne. Her hobby is making fancy work to sell.

  Eston (Red) Devere Baker born December 10, 1922 near Grand River, Ia. Attended schools in Iowa and Bordeaux, Wyo., and was a 1941 graduate of Wheatland, Wyo., High School. Went to California, worked in Yoder's Cabinet Shop. Served in the Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1946 [as a navigator on a B-24 Liberator] in Italy and Casablanca. Married in [Palms] California June 29, 1947 Carol Elaine Bovee born September 18, 1927 Culver City, Calif., daughter of Louis and Mildred (Copp) Bovee. She, a 1945 graduate of Hamilton High School in Culver City, also graduated from Los Angeles City College in 1947, and was employed in the City Health Department.

They moved to Wyoming in 1948 and farmed with his father. On June 27, 1955 their home was demolished by a tornado, injuring Carol and son Kenny. They lived in a trailer house until Feb. 1956 when they returned to California and now live in Culver City. He works for Ryan Aeronautical Co. and attends school, studying engineering and blueprints. Carol teaches church kindergarten.

They lived in Oklahoma where he worked as a mechanic. He served as a machinist at the Army four years, on the Marshall and Aleutian Islands and Okinawa. After his discharge, he was employed on farms near Slater, Wyo., for three years. They own their farm near Slater, Wyo., where they now live.

  Randena Jean (Jean) Baker born November 23, 1926 Decatur Co., Ia. Attended school at Bordeaux, Wyo., and was a 1944 graduated of Wheatland High School. Went to Culver City, Calif., worked in a defense plant and was an elevator hop, several months. Returned to Wyoming, June 1945, and was married September 12, 1945 to Wesley Wagner born December 28, 1918 near Loveland, Colo., son of Phillip and Sophia (Pope) Wagner. He attended school at Wheatland.

Wesley was in the service four years, [Tech 5] Army Mule Pack, in Colorado and Italy [serving from February 26, 1942 to December 3, 1945].

They lived on a farm near Saratoga, Wyo., then moved near Slater, Wyo., and he worked on construction. In 1947 bought a farm where they lived until their house burned March 1955. Sold the farm in 1957. He works for the Platte Valley Construction Company and is moved from place to place. They live in a large trailer house.

He attended school in Culver City and was a three year letterman, outcome of his varsity football playing in high school.

She worked for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. before and after marriage. He worked for Douglas Aircraft in El Seunda, but now works for a machine shop in Culver City near where they live at 4545 Schaefer St.

He entered the service April 1942 and served as a [CM/3] Seabee in the Pacific Theater, on the Island of Apama and Roi Namur. Was discharged December 1945. Helped his mother with an oil station two years. Married December 5, 1949 at Draper, So. Dak., to Winifred (Winnie) Walker Kniss born July 1, 1910 near Philip, So. Dak. Attended school and graduated from Philip High School. She worked as a waitress and helped care for her parents, Charles and Nellie (Stroughton) Walker.

They own their own home at Philip, So. Dak. He is chief mechanic for the Philip Ford Motor Company.

  Merl Lewis Flatt born July 16, 1925 Rapid City, So. Dak. He graduated from high school at Wall, So., Dak., May 1943. During the summer he worked on resettlement and went into service in October 1943. Served in the Pacific Theatre in the Navy on the carrier Cowpens. Was in Pearl Harbor when the peace treaty was signed. Was discharged December 1945. Married April 12, 1946 at Rapid City, So., Dak. to Eileen Joyce Babcock born July 22, 1926 at Wall, So. Dak., daughter of Harry and Lela (Collins) Babcock. She was a 1944 graduate of the Wall High School. Attended summer school at Spearfish, So. Dak., and taught two years near Wall.

In 1946 Merl worked for Mr. Knapp moving houses and in 1947 began work for the West River Electric Association. At present he is Line Superintendent at Wall, So. Dak. They are both members of the Methodist Church, and are active in church, school and cub scouts. They own their own home in Wall.

While going to school she worked for the Wall Drug Store and clerked in a store. Later she worked as bookkeeper for the Soil Conservation Service. Married June 12, 1946 at Rapid City, So. Dak., Christ Frederick Woods born January 18, 1924 at Sioux Falls, So. Dak., son of Kenneth Earl and Anna (Larsen) Woods. Christ graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1942 and attended the School of Mines at Rapid City for two years.

Christ joined the Navy and spent two years in the Western Theater [World War II].

After he was married he finished his college work and graduated in June 1948. He worked 2 1/2 years at Fort Randall, So. Dak. From there to Minneapolis, Minn., and has since worked for the Al Johnson Construction Co. They spent 9 months at Rockdale, Texas, did a job at Demopolis, Ala., and one at Maryville, Tenn. In 1960 finished a job on Tombigee River at Hancock, Mich. He has received his Professional Engineer's License. They are both members of the Methodist Church.

He entered service in November 1950, was sent to radio school, and spent one summer in Alaska, where he had part time charge of communications sending and receiving messages, and was discharged December 1952. Married June 2, 1953 Ora Virginia (Ginger) Turner born August 14, 1930 in Depew, Okla., daughter of William and Salina Blanche (Lamb) Turner. Ginger attended grade school in

Married November 19, 1951 at Wall Catholic Church to Ivo Adolph Bannister born June 14, 1926 near Cottonwood, So. Dak., son of Francis Joseph and Mary (Bolster) Bannister. He attended Hilltop School near Cottonwood and Cottonwood High School.

Ivo was in the Army from November 1943 until January 1946 in the Pacific Theater. After returning he helped his folks on the farm and worked on the railroad section at Cottonwood.

After they were married a while he was sent to Ft. Pierre, So. Dak., as assistant foreman. In September 1953 he was appointed foreman of the section at Ft. Pierre and they moved there. In October 1956 he left the railroad work and moved to Seattle, Wash., where he works for Boeing Aircraft Company. They are buying their home there. Members of the Catholic Church.

They are engaged in farming and ranching at Martin, So., Dak., with their main source of income being winter wheat.

He served in the Armed Forces during World War II in Hawaii and Mariana Islands. They are both members of Zion Lutheran Church. Frank is on the church board and Viola teaches a Sunday School class and is assistant 4-H leader. Frank's hobbies are carpentering and mechanics. Viola likes to sew, paint and garden. Are members of American Legion and Auxillary.

He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He was discharged and came back to America in May 1954. It was in February 1955 before he succeeded in getting his family to America. They lived on a farm south of Ft. Pierre, So. Dak., and [he] worked on the Oahe Dam at Pierre.

Gabriel came to the United States from Yugoslavia in 1921 and Mrs. Katona came to the U. S. from Hungary in 1913. Pauline graduated from Hicksville, Ohio, High School. Attended Toledo, Ohio, University two years. Attended Sorbonne University in Paris, France 1 1/2 semesters and Julien Acadamie, Paris, France 1 1/2 semesters. Pauline has traveled in 18 countries.

They started their life together in Paris, France with Nick in service. He was discharged in May 1959 and they came to America in June 1959. They spent the summer visiting her relatives in Ohio and his parents in Des Moines, until in August they left for California and Nick enrolled in Whittier College. He coached the Cross Country Track Team and did practice teaching, and barbering at Whittier. Pauline is now attending Long Beach State College in Long Beach, California.

He was a 1934 graduated of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Ia. He attended the University of Arizona at Tucson, majored in Production Management and graduated in 1959. Was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was the son of Sheldon B. and Ada (Barns) Goreham.

They live in Des Moines and Dick works at Meredith Publishing Co.

He is the son of Cornelius and Anna Bambrook of Eddyville, Ia. Mr. Bambrook was born in Holland and came to this country at the age of 19. John attended Eddyville High School and was graduated in 1954, and graduated from Drake University.

They live at Monterey, California and John is in the Army. He will be discharged in July 1961 and they plan to make their home in Des Moines, Ia.


  John Worden (Butch) Street May 11, 1939 in Rockford, Ill. He attended school in Des Moines at Tech and was graduated in 1957. He was a boy scout and played trumpet in the school band. Butch enlisted in the Navy August 26, 1957 just after they were married and she stayed in Des Moines until she could go with him. They are living in California. He is now a Dental Technician 2nd Class and plans to make a career of the Navy.

  Roy Landon Anderson, Jr. born June 26, 1926 in Chicago, Ill. Attended Burnside Elementary School and 3 1/2 years at Finger High School before entering the Service. He was in the Navy in World War II for two years, 1944-46 in the Pacific Theater. Was on hand to see the flag go up at Iwo Jima. He had 1 year of college at Milliken University; 1 year at Wilson Jr. College; 1 year at McCormick Business College and 1 term commercial art at the Art Institute. Married October 25, 1952 to Joann Murray born August 27, 1930, daughter of John and Grace (Kilroy) Murray. She attended school and was graduated from Loretto High School and attended Fox Business College. Was employed for a time by Liquid Carbonic Co.

      They now live at 90024 Sproat Ave., Oak Lawn, Ill. He is manager of a License Depot of Armour Express Co. They are both members of the Catholic Church.

  Richard Gene Anderson born August 24, 1930 in Chicago, Ill. He graduated from Burnside 8th grade in 1944 and from Chicago Vocational High School in 1948. In 1944 he was chosen as most out-standing male student of his class and received an award given by the American Legion. He had 1 year at Purdue University and 3 years at Illinois Institute of Technology, graduating in 1953. He was in the Army from June 1953 until June 1955. (Ordnance Climatic Testing) In Churchill, Canada in the winter and in Yuma, Arizona in the summer. Married September 1, 1956 to Janet Manger born October 24, 1933 in Kansas City, daughter of Edward and Leone (Lutz) Manger. She graduated from Central High School in Omaha, Nebraska in 1951. She attended Cornell College at Mt. Vernon, Ia. Graduated from Iowa State College in 1955. She worked in a training program at Marshall Field and Co., for a time, then for Kaiser Aluminum.

They now live at 12741 Westgate Drive, Palos Heights, Ill. He took a post graduate course at a Branch of State University of Illinois, passed his examination and became a professional engineer. He works as mechanical engineer for Allis Chalmers Co. in Chicago, Ill.

  Colleen Jeanne Gibson born September 13, 1927 at Valley Junction, Ia. Attended school in Des Moines, playing trumpet in the school band. Was a 1944 graduate of North High. Married September 24, 1944 to Floyd Nuckels born April 11, 1923. They were divorced in 1946.

She married second March 20, 1947 Rodwell (Roddy) Reddick born November 26, 1924, at Beaver City, Nebr., son of Raymond W. and Violet (Capps) Reddick. Roddy went to school in Farragut, Shenandoah and Red Oak, Ia., graduating from Red Oak High School. He was in World War II [PFC, U.S. Army, 127 AAA Bn CAC], in the European Theater, in Germany and France [from July 6, 1943 to January 18, 1946]. While living at Red Oak he worked for Iowa Power and Light Company. They now live in Des Moines and he works as a clerk in the U.S. Post Office.

Transcriber's Note: Colleen died January 6, 1965. Rodwell Reed "Rod" Reddick died August 22, 1968. Rod was interred at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.

  Jerry Lee Hays born September 27, 1935 in Des Moines, Ia. Attended Sabin School, was a boy scout, was a graduated from [North Des Moines] high school in February 1954. Enlisted in the Marines February 1954. Was in Japan and Okinawa. Played clarinet and saxophone in the Marine Band, returned home in February 1957. He took one semester at A. I. B., one year Remington Rand in Des Moines and one year music at Grandview College and Drake. He taught dancing at Arthur Murray Studio in Des Moines. Married January 10, 1960 to Carol Glee Roberts born March 1937 in Omaha, Nebr., daughter of Earl and Frances Edna (Butcher) Roberts. She was a high School graduate from Fairfield, Ia., being one of the top 5% of her class. She attended State University of Iowa at Iowa City, was on the Student Council and among the top 10% of the class. She also attended Parsons College at Fairfield. She is a member of National Society Sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta. Glee works in the office of Carpenter Paper Co. in Des Moines.

Jerry attended and played in the Marine Band at the Grand Opening of Disneyland. He was in the [1955] movie "Battle Cry" also in the Marine Band. Played in a concert to the King of Siam in Bangkok, Thailand. He now works for Cock [Koch?] Brothers selling big office machinery.

Transcriber's Note: Carole "Glee" (Roberts) Hays and Jerry Lee Hays were the parents of one son, Tim Hays of Los Angeles. Glee and Jerry divorced in 1968. Glee died at age 78 years, January 6, 2016, Glendale, California. [Obituary link at bottom of webpage.]




  Kenneth James Pierce born August 23, 1934 in Chicago, Ill. Attended Chicago Vocational High School. Married February 26, 1955 in Stone Church in Chicago, Ill., to Margaret (Margie) Mary Bakken born March 13, 1934 in Chicago, daughter of John Bakken. Margie attended Argo High School. She worked at Ford Aircraft Eng. Div. They lived at Posen, Ill., after being married. Kenneth is a machinist at Continental Can Co., in Chicago, Ill. They are divorced.
