Mr. Geo. Brooks, an extensive farmer and stock man near Bethany Junction, well and favorably known, and one of our best young ladies, Miss Jennie Taylor, were married by Rev. A. H. Rusk at 6 p. m. February 13th, at the home of the bride's Uncle and Aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Saml. L. Wood, Davis City, Iowa, after which a delicious supper was served. Mr. and Mrs. Brooks took the 6 a. m. train the following day for their home near Bethany Junction.

 Jennie was Episcopalian and George was with the RLDS Church. "Pa", as he was affectionately known, often stated that he "was related to himself so many times that" he did not need any more relatives. His paternal grandfather, Benjamin Brooks, and his maternal great-grandfather, Nathan Brooks, were brothers. Jennie June TAYLOR died 13 Apr 1938, Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. George Warren BROOKS died 16 Sep 1958, Claremore, Rogers County, Oklahoma. They were buried in Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, Jackson County, Missouri.

FAMILY NOTES: Helen (Brooks) Green recalled a Christmas when the family didn't have much money. Instead of a Christmas tree, Millie and daughter Mae made a log cabin out of striped candy sticks. They set it on a table in the living room. She stated that it was the loveliest Christmas decoration she had ever seen.

Millie loved to make cherry pies when the cherries had ripened. Later in her life, her eyesight had failed.

George Warren "Pa" BROOKS often stated the he was related to himself so many times that he didn't need any more relatives. His fraternal grandfather, Benjamin BROOKS, and his maternal great-grandfather, Nathan BROOKS, were brothers.

FAMILY NOTES: Pearl's daughter, Mary Ione, said that she remembered Grandma Mae Scott bringing a bushel basket of popcorn balls at Christmas times as well as homemade candy and trinkets for her grandchildren. Ethel "Lucille" Scott, while still single, would bring homemade marshmallows. Great Grandpa Samuel Scott would put old-fashioned peppermints with the "x" in them in a tin and would hand them out to each child for a kiss. Mary Ione also remembered Grandpa John Scott making sorghum, as did Ariel and Eva Knapp. At the time, Grandparents Scott lived south of Garden Grove, and then would spend three weeks with them when they lived at Guthrie Center, Iowa.

Mildred Taylor Cochenour, 92, of Magnolia, Ky., formerly of Marshall, died Sunday, June 18, 2006, at her home.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, at Harmony Cemetery near Miami. Rev. Darrel Douglas will officiate. Pallbearers will be Bobby Hunt, Ross Hunt, Calvin Kirchhoff, Karl Kirchhoff, Kenneth Kirchhoff and Jebidiah Rice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to the family in care of the funeral home.

Born Nov. 25, 1913, at Elmwood, she was the daughter of the late John and Mallie Ziegle Hunt. In 1937 she married William "Feet" Gibson, who preceded her in death. In 1940 she married George Taylor, who preceded her in death in 1958. In 1960 she married Roy Cochenour, who preceded her in death. She had been a resident of Marshall for many years and had lived in the Carrollton, Bosworth and Warrensburg areas before moving to Kentucky, where she resided for the last nine years.

Survivors include one son, Don H. Gibson of Warrensburg; one daughter, Rosa Lee Taylor of Joplin; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, four brothers and four sisters.

Last Friday [February 20, 1925] occurred the marriage of Walter "Pete" Taylor and Miss Marie Leonard, both of this city, the ceremony taking place at Osceola. Miss Leonard is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dell Leonard, respected citizens of this city, and is a very pleasing young lady well thought of among a large circle of admiring friends. Mr. Taylor is an industrious capable young man who has spent the most of his life in Garden Grove and held in high esteem. The young couple will go to housekeeping on the Lester Gill farm south of here. At present they are looking after the J. F. Gill place while Mr. and Mrs. Gill are away at Excelsior Springs, Mo. Their many friends offer congratulations.
