Subject: Decatur County photoHere is the photo, taken in the parlor of the W.H. Spurrier home in Lamoni,
about 1890. The members of the family are as follows:Standing L-R:
Daisy Gertrude (Spurrier) Briggs 2-4-1874 to 6-23-1951,
Napolean Bonaparte Spurrier 1-14-1860 to 10-15-1932, Amy Elizabeth (Spurrier)
Mumma Robbins 4-22-1869 to 2-19-1949 and Richard Granville Spurrier 11-19-1871 to 10-18-1905.Sitting L-R:
William Henry Spurrier 2-23-1839 to 2-22-1911,
Frank Orlando Spurrier 3-5-1862 to 1-1-1942 and
Sarah Jane (Cammack) Spurrier 7-18-1843 to 9-26-1916.Another son Sanford Hugh, b. 1866 d. 1868 in Salem, Iowa.
Incidentally, when I was there in 1978 there was an old schoolhouse west of town that was named Spurrier School. When I returned in 1984, it had been moved to the museum area on the west side of Lamoni and had really been fixed up. It was named for W.H. Spurrier, on whose land it originally was.
Thanks for putting this on the Decatur County site.
Doug
