The State Census for l925 has been completed by the assessors and from the returns filed with county auditor RY Wiley, we glean the following figures. The total population of Decatur County is l5,326, while in l920 the total population was l6,566, showing a loss in population for the county of l,240. A comparison of the returns from the incorporated towns, shows there has been a net loss in five years in the towns of 497, which is just in about the same proportion as the loss in rural townships, as the rural townships show a loss of 743 in population in the last five years. Only four towns in the county show a gain in population during this period. Davis City gained 26, Grand River l, Decatur 6, and Leroy 6. All of the other towns showed a loss. Leon shows a loss of 235, but part of this is accounted for by the setting off of a part of the incorporated town last year in order to permit the heavy road work on the Jefferson Highway south of the Burlington Depot, and on the Golden Rod Highway running west of town, where the new viaduct is being erected. Lamoni shows a loss of l57, Garden Grove a loss of 5l, Van Wert a loss of 25, Weldon a loss of 27, and Pleasanton a loss of 5l.

The following is the population of the towns in the county in l925 and l920:
