The Davis City Advance, Davis City, Iowa
July 11, 1901

Davis City has been a long time without street lights, but it will shortly be the best lighted town in the county. The council recently decided to try a new Gasoline light. It came Monday, and it is immense. It gives a better light than any ordinary electric arc light. 2 or 3 cents worth of gasoline furnishes a brilliant light all night. Today the mayor will order 3 more of them. They will be placed at each of the 3 crossings on Bridge Street, also a fourth on the north end of the bridge.
