The Leon Swimming pool is scheduled to open June 4. Bob FULTON is the manager of the pool for the summer. Others working with Fulton include: Steven A. CARTER, John RUTHERFORD, Betty KOUFER and Sandra NEWMAN.

A group of farmers and businessmen gathered at the Leon Sale Barn Wednesday evening of last week to hear a discussion on cloud seeding for this county.

Miss Marlene REDMAN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard REDMAN, who reside near Leon, made a score of 99.00 in the Iowa State Merit System clerical examination taken in Des Moines. She ranked 15th among 375 persons taking the test.

At the Boxer Sanction match, sponsored by the Boxer Club of Des Moines, Inc., held at the Southside Community House in Des Moines Sunday afternoon, Lora BRIGGS, of near Leon, placed first in the All American class with "Eartha Kitt," female. Bob CROUSE of Leon also received first prize in the novice class with his boxer, "Palla Dandy."

The following awards were given to members of the Cub Scout Pack 177 of Leon: Chester REDMAN, Gold arrow under the Wolf and Assistant Denner Stripe; Eddie Van NOSTRAND, Bobcat award and Denner Stripe; Jerry LEWIS, Bobcat award; Mike MADDEN, Silver Arrow under the Lion: Bob McNAY, one Gold Arrow and two Silver Arrows under the Lion and a two-year pin; and, Loring MILLER, Silver Arrow under the Bear.

Miss Virginia SKINNER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. SKINNER of Garden Grove, will be awarded a diploma in nursing from the Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing, Rochester, MN.

Little turnout is expected at the June primary election in Leon. On the county ticket there is only one contest for the Republicans. Both Robert W. BURDETTE and Dio S. McGINNIS of Leon seek the office of county attorney. There are three constests on the county Democratic ticket. One is for the office of sheriff. Candidates are Herman HAMILTON of Garden Grove and Lester D. ROBISON of Leon. Another contest is for member of the board of supervisors for the 1958 term. The candidates are Alfred BOSWELL of Burrell township, Davis City, and Johnnie SMITH of Woodland Township. Fred R. SMITH of Weldon and Allen J. KUCERA of Garden Grove are candidates for the term starting Jan. 2, 1957, member of the board of supervisors.

Mr. and Mrs. Warren BOYD of Humeston announce the engagement of their daughter, Lou Ellen to Larry EASTON, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar EASTIN of Leon.
