Twice Told Tales - 35 Years Ago
November 27, 1980

A home belonging to Nancy Ross was destroyed by fire. Her grandson, Rick was living in the home at the time of the fire.

The resignation of Dean Vaughn, First Ward Councilman and Homer Warren, Third Ward Councilman, were accepted during the regular meeting of the Leon City Council. Mayor Whitmore appointed Miles Horn as Mayor Protem.

Former Leon resident, Bill Bassett, of Drakesville, was honored as an outstanding citizen of Davis County.

On November 5, neighbors and friends took pickers, combines, wagons and trucks and harvested 78 acres of corn for Mrs. Paul Pridgen of Grand River.

Fire damage was sustained at the home of Rev. John Jennenga six miles south of Leon.

Mr. and Mrs. Billy Jones of Lamoni announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Chanda, to Kim Buckingham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Buckingham of rural Decatur.

Thayis Breckenridge was the featured employee of the Decatur County State Bank. She worked in the bookkeeping department.

Miss Sheila Andrew was named CO-ED Correspondent for the 1980-1981 school year, according to an announcement made by Kathy Gigick, editor of the CO-ED magazine. Andrew was appointed by Mrs. Lila Akes, her home economic’s teacher.
