Twice Told Tales - 35 Years Ago
November 20, 1980

Members of the United Methodist Women’s Day Group made and stuffed 45 animal toys and presented them to the Decatur County Hospital. Members of the group included: Edith McMorris, Lois Dunn, Gladys Gamble, Eula Bacon, Maxine Greenhalgh, Wynema Dale, Dorthee Schoonover, Alice Gittinger, Ann Crouse, Marilyn Lesan, Connie Richard, JoAnn Dean and Karen Lynch.

City mail carrier Ted Hines, who for 26 years and 9 months had carried the mail on city route two, punched the time clock for the last time November 14.

New Western Auto letters for the huge sign were placed. Art and Mary Havens had completed the final touches to the newly remodeled Leon Western Auto Store they purchased from Ham and Glendean Graves.

The Union Thanksgiving service was scheduled to be held at the Presbyterian Church with Pastor David Wilson of the Church of the Nazarene, bringing the message.

Mr. and Mrs. Olin Rippey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Garry Jeffrey of Leon, was a member of the 1980-1981 Central College wrestling team at Pella.

Mrs. Marlene Scott, daughter of Marshall and Pauline Warren was to graduate from ISU November 22 with a Masters of Science degree with a major in Home Economics Education.

The Drama II department at Central Decatur was scheduled to present “Murder at Mother Goose’s Place.”
