MARY A. BURNS vs. JOHN F. BURNS, Action for divorce. The plaintiff
asserts that she was married to the defendant at Brazil, Iowa, January
l, l890, and that to them has been born one child, MARY FRANCIS BURNS
aged six years. She bases her cause for action on the grounds of cruel
and inhuman treatment, asserting that although her husband before their
marriage was sober and industrious, since he has been working in a coal
mine he has become an habitual drunkard. She declares that many times
he has struck, beat and bruised her in an outrageous manner and on one
occasion, December 25, l896, secured a revolver and threatened to kill
her, having on a previous occasion assaulted her with a knife. For
these reasons, believing that he would carry his threats into execution,
and considering her life in danger, she left him January l, l897. C.W.
HOFFMAN for plaintiff.
