The following table shows the amounts paid by Decatur County for inmates
to the several state institutions from l874 to l888 inclusive, as shown
by the books in the auditor's office:   TOTALS:
Institution for the blind:              $    254.28
Institution for deaf and dumb:                40.88
Institution for feeble minded children:      230.80
Orphan's Home:                             l,l93.88
Insane Asylum:                            20,623.22

We have at present twelve inmates at the insane asylum at Mt. Pleasant,
four at the orphan's home in Davenport, two in the institution for
feeble minded children at Glenwood, one at the college for the blind at
Vinton, and one in the deaf and dumb institution in Council Bluffs.  The
greatest number of insane at hospital at one time was fourteen in the
year l878.  In l876 and l882 there were only six, the smallest number
for the whole period of fifteen years.

In addition to this, there are five insane persons kept at the POOR
FARM, the cost of which is not included in the above.
