| The Davis City Advance, Davis City, Iowa Thursday, June 20, l90l 'FROM THE MEXICAN WAR' - - - - - - - - J.C. KESHLEAR hands us an interesting letter written by his maternal uncle, then a soldier of the U.S. in the Mexican War, to his brother-in-law, JACOB KESHLEAR, the father of our townsman J.C. KESHLEAR. GREEN and WILLIAM, mentioned in the letter, were brothers of MR. RIGGS. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EL PASO, TEXAS February 1, l847 Dear Brother -- Myself and brother are well. We have found a battle at last which was fought some thirty or forty minutes. I do not know the exact number that were killed. We found several dead and wounded Mexicans on the field, besides we captured three prisoners, which was more glory than all. Three or four of our men were slightly wounded but none killed. Another battle almost occurred in Old Mexico, two days travel from here. We were determined, but just before we arrived with rifles loaded and swords drawn the Mexicans met us with a flag of peace. We will soon start for Chihuahua, where we expect another battle. GREEN and WILLIAM send their respects to you. Regards to your family and all my Missouri friends.
