This is a post I received from Chuck Woods; SIDMANONE@aol.com
I had asked him to post it to the List, as I think it is very
interesting and funny. He says he is somewhat computer challenged, so I
will copy it for the List. Nancee

Nancee:
Just my distorted sense of humor. I don't know of any actual horse
theives in the genetic material. However, I do have a resident of East
Decatur Co., DAVID R. WOODS (my gggrandfather) who is pictured in the
l945 (this was a picture from the l870s) Lineville Paper, with his
knock-kneed, bowlegged mule which he sold more than once. It kept
coming back. Does not say he refunded any money. I have a copy of the
paper that my father's uncle NICHOLAS WOODS saved and left to the
family.
Near as I can tell, DAVID R. WOODS was a resident of the Woodland area
from l865, ( married SAMANTHA JANE RITCHIE, July l865, in Leon) on and
off until he left the area in l88l. He stopped moving in l884 and is
buried in the Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, Harrison County, MO.
His father, JOHN WOODS, my ggggrandfather, (l79l-l867) and step mother,
HENRIETTA DUNN (l8l0-l879) are buried somewhere in the local area. This
is almost the junction of Mercer, MO., Wayne, IA., and Decatur Co., IA.
His son, JOHN JAMES WOODS, my ggrandfather, l854-l92l) and ggrandmother,
SAMANTHA ANN BRIGGS, settled in Allerton, Wayne Co., IA. They are both
buried in the Greer Cemetery which is close to the MO/IA border in Wayne
Co., IA.
