Subject: DILLON and GALPIN FAMILIES 1870s
Date: Tuesday, July 10, 2001 1:57 PM
Researchers:
In case their are some new folks on line, I want to again mention my
interest in locating the parents and ancestors of WILLIAM DILLON who was
born in 1822 in OHio. William married Elizabeth (?) about 1844. In the
1850 Monroe County, Green Township, OH census, William and Elizabeth (?)
Dillon had 3 sons: Abraham age 6, Henry age 4 and John age 3.
About 1853 William and family moved to Decatur County, IA. They gave part
of their farm for the Union Cemetery in Decatur County. We think the farm
was actually located in Wayne County, IA.
Henry Dillon, (Son of William and Elizabeth) married Emmaline Dillon who was
the daughter of Ebinezer and Clarinda (Estell) Galpin. The Galpin farm was
quite near to the William Dillon Farm. Abraham Dillon (brother to Henry and
son of William) married Jane Galpin who was a sister of Emmaline.
Henry Dillon continued to live in the area for a short while then moved his
family to Caldwell County, MO. Abraham Dillon lived in the area for the
rest of his life. He and his wife Jane raised their family who also
continued to live in the area.
We think that William DILLON, the father, died about 1875 as he does not
appear in the 1880 census. We hope that his obituary might contain
information on his parents and ancestors in order for us to trace them. Is
there anyone out there researching these families? Thank you for your
help.
