The Service Flag |
The students and friends of the
high school celebrated Washington's Birthday with an appropriate
patriotic program, during which the Service Flag was formally presented
to the high school. The exercises were in charge of Miss Mabel
McKee. The program was a real pleasure to everyone present.
Each one taking part proved a credit to himself and his school.
The letters read from the Sandford brothers, now "over there," were among the interesting features. The most impressive part of the exercises was the unveiling of the beautiful new Service Flag, which had previously been concealed behind a large national flag. The 49 stars were then pinned on the flag, the first being placed by Oscar Thompson, a former high school pupil now stationed at Camp Cody. Two stars, a blue one and a white one, had made for each boy represented on the flag. The blue one was placed on the flag by a member of the family, if any were present, or by a member of the class. The white star, on which was written P. H. S., the name and the date, was sent to the boy, so he may know he was remembered personally. Since that time many more have entered the service and before the Annual reaches our readers, others will follow. To the lads who receive a copy of this book, which is dedicated to them, we hope it may bring a message of hearty good cheer and God-speed. Following are the names of those who are now in the service:
