The DeSoto Methodist Society was organized in August of 1868 by Rev.
John E. Darby, and was the first religious organization in the new town
of DeSoto. For several years the people worshipped in private homes and
school houses. In 1872 a fine brick church was built in Block 16, Lots
11 and 12. The building, measuring 60'x34', was built at a cost of
$6,000. By 1879 church membership had grown to 110. |
