World War I Veterans

from Denison High School

D.H.S. Soldiers

Our soldiers, that is the boys who have at one time been in high school, enough cannot be said in their praise. Many served in France, while others' lot was to stay in United States, but they were soldiers, ready to go wherever Uncle Sam said, ready to do or die. Many can tell of great battles they were in, some can only tell of the great camps, but they were there for a purpose. There is glory enough for all.

We had one hundred and thirty stars in our service flag. Something to be exceptionally proud of, considering what other schools had. We were also proud of the women who served in the Red Cross and Y. W. C. A., and other branches of the service. In years to come your names will be told as ones who went to defend their country, and every child will be proud of what the old high school students did in the world war.

Some did not return, but our heart goes out to their loved ones. But no nobler deed could be done than to give one's life for his country. We respect and honor the dead and the living have made a name for themselves, as being unafraid to sacrifice themselves and loved ones to do their bit for the flag.
