Levi A. Anderson (1894 - 1965)

Funeral services for Levi A. Anderson were held Tuesday morning, November 2 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Rev. R. J. Ratzlaff officiating. Mrs Broder Petersen, organist, accompanied soloist, Mrs Harlan Buffum who sang "How Great Thou Art" and soloist Mrs Lloyd Benson who sang "Under His Wings."

Levi Arthur Anderson was born on November 20, 1894 to Charles and Augusta nee Ahlstrom in Crawford county. He was married to Faye Waggoner on November 28, 1923 at Odebolt. To this union was born one daughter, Norma, Mrs James Schwarz and two sons, Ronald of Omaha and Dwayne of Ames.

He worked as a rural mail carrier at Kiron for 34 years before retiring. He resided at Kiron until moving to Schleswig in 1948. He was a member of the United Church of Christ.

He died at the Veteran's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday, October 30 after a brief illness. He attained the age of 70 years 11 months and 10 days.

Survivors include his widow, one daughter, Mrs James Schwarz, two sons Ronald and Dwayne, 18 grandchildren, two brothers, David of Kiron and Seth of Denison; six sisters, Hettie, Mrs. John Johnson of Orleans, Nebraska; Mrs Tilda Larson Morton, Washington; Elizabeth, Mrs Harold McWilliams, Long Beach, California; Mrs Mildred Clark, Long Beach, California; Irene, Mrs. Daryl Fors, Lakewood, California; and Mrs Emma Cornish, Odebolt, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers were members of the V. F. W. and the American Legion. Interment was made in the Odebolt Cemetery. Sinn's Funeral home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Lillie A. (Voss) Boeck (1904 - 1986)

Lillie A. Boeck was born on a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa, November 16, 1904, the daughter of Ernest and Rosa Rath Voss. She was raised on the family farm and received her formal education in the local rural schools. Following her schooling, and prior to her marriage, she was employed in Denison at the Hotel Denison.

On September 19, 1923, Lillie was married to Benton Boeck at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Ben and Lill were the parents of four children, Virgil, Russell, Gaylord and Bonnie. The Boecks made their home on farms southeast of Denison where together they farmed and raised their family. In 1966, they retired from the farm and moved to their home they built at the south edge of Denison.

Benton died January 25, 1984, and Lillie continued to reside at her home, where she enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Lillie died at home of an apparent heart attack Saturday afternoon, April 5, 1986. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 81 years, four months and 19 days. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

Including her parents and husband, Lillie was preceded in death by one son, Russell Boeck and fifteen brothers and sisters; Emma Atzen, Bertha Atzen, Anna Atzen, Chris Voss, John Voss, Fred Voss, Rose Jurgensen, Ernest Voss, Martin Voss, Ella Namanny, Emil Voss, Minnie Paulsen, Roy Voss, Edward Voss, and Edna Voss.

She is survived by three children, Virgil Boeck and his wife Violet of Route 2, Denison, Gaylord Boeck and his wife, Irene of rural Ida Grove, and Bonnie and her husband, Vicar Virgil Ewoldt of Ruskin, Nebr., one daughter-in-law Marian Boeck of Route 3, Denison; thirteen grandsons, Dennis, Larry, Dwight, Terry, Tom, Tim, Kevin, Dale, Michael, Mark, Rev. Alan, Curtis and Gary Boeck, and seven granddaughters, Deborah Green, Linda Matijevich, Lanah Boeck, Jean Heiden, Emily Ewoldt, Jennifer Ewoldt, Jessica Ewoldt, also twenty-two great ;grandchildren, and one brother Paul Voss of Schleswig. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 8, 1986, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with the Rev. Donald D. Fraker officiating. Music for the service was provided by her grandson, Larry Boeck singing "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" with Mrs. Renee Miller as pianist. The congregation sang "I Know That My Redeemer. Lives" with Mrs. Fred Rabe serving as organist. Lillie's grandsons served as pallbearers for her service. Interment was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Lillie (Erichsen) Brodersen (1901 - 1982)

Lillie Minnie Catherine Brodersen was born on September 16, 1901 in Ida County, Iowa, the daughter of August and Lena Jasper Erichsen. She died on Thursday morning, August 26, 1982 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison at the age of 80.

Lillie was baptized as an infant and later confirmed. She was reared on a farm in Crawford County. Lillie received her formal education in the rural schools near her home.

On January 14, 1920, Lillie was united in marriage to Hugo Brodersen at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Together they made their home on the Brodersen family farm east of Schleswig. After their retirement, they continued to make their home on the farm. In 1976 they moved to Schleswig.

In addition to her parents, Lillie was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters. Survivors include her husband, Hugo of Schleswig; one son, LeRoy of Schleswig; two daughters, LaRue, Mrs. Melvin Schultz of Schleswig and Beverly, Mrs. Clarence Borre of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Also surviving are six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Selma Christiansen of Arthur, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 28, 1982 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Paul Wiegert officiated at the services. Serving as pallbearers were Gary Schultz, DeWayne Schultz, Darrell Brodersen, Randall Borre, Vernon Christiansen and Dean Wieck.

Linda M. (Hollander) Jahde (1888 - 1971)

Linda Margaret Hollander , the daughter of Ebbe and Christine (Heinrichs) Hollander, was born in Ida County, Iowa on July 13, 1888. She was baptized in early infancy and later confirmed in Trinity Lutheran church near Ida Grove. She was married to Henry Jahde in 1906.

The couple farmed in Ida County, then moved into Schleswig and later to Denison in 1923. Mrs. Jahde passed away Saturday, May 22, 1971, at a nursing home in Odebolt.

She is survived by one son, Clarence of Schleswig, two daughters, Mrs. Ben (Hattie) Asmus of Denison, Mrs. John (Sylvia) Broderick of Columbus, Nebraska, a sister, Mrs. Thakla Weise of Clinton, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Huebner Funeral Home on May 25 with Rev. Carl W. Schmidt officiating. Mrs W. W. Schmidt served as organist and Henry Henningsen as soloist. Interment was made in the Crawford Heights Memory Garden, in the Garden of Devotion.

Lloyd A. Peterson (1919 - 1985)

Lloyd A. Peterson was born on October 24, 1919, in Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Charles E. and Alice Agnes Kollberg Peterson. He died suddenly on Sunday evening, February 17,of a heart attack at the age of 65.

Lloyd spent his formative years in rural Crawford County. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home. On June 12, 1942, Lloyd entered the United States Army at Fort Des Moines. During World War II he was involved in military campaigns in Algeria - French Morocco, Sicily. Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. Lloyd's decorations included the Belgian Fourragere, Bronze Service Arrowhead, and the Good Conduct Medal.

On February 8, 1954, Lloyd was united in marriage to the former Betty Milton at the Storm Lake Methodist Church. Together they made their home in rural Crawford County where Lloyd farmed with his two brothers for thirty years. They moved into the Denison community in 1982. In 1983, Lloyd retired from an active farming career.

Preceding Lloyd in death were his parents, one brother Carl Wilford, and one sister Clara Konrady.

Survivors include his wife Betty of Denison, two, brothers, Charles of Dow City, and Edward of Denison. Also surviving are six sisters: Gladys (Mrs. Bill) Riley, Mrs. George Luetjens, and Lorraine (Mrs. James) Bral, all of Denison, Mabel (Mrs. James) Riley of Deloit, Evelyn Iversen of Ida Grove, Ruth (Mrs. Norman) Quandt of Carroll and a host of other, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Denison. Burial was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Rev. Dr. Scott Woodworth officiated at the services and graveside rites. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist for the services with Mr. Henry Henningsen serving as soloist. Hymns for the services included Rock of Ages and How Great Thou Art. Serving as pallbearers were John Peterson, John Iversen, Dan Quandt, Glen Bral, Ronnie Slechta, and Paul Lietz.

Lois M. (Vinke) Schagt (1926 - 1975)

Funeral services for Mrs. LeRoy Schagt were held Monday, February 17, 1975, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, with Pastor F. A. Wiese officiating. Mrs. Ray Schmidt was the organist. The choir sang "I'm But a Stranger Here" and the congregation sang "Nearer My God to Thee".

Lois Marie, daughter of Max Weinbrandt and Amelia Vinke, was born on February 26, 1926, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She was joined in marriage with LeRoy Schagt on August 27, 1947. The couple farmed north of Schleswig. She was very active in her church and at the time of her death was one of the chairwomen of the Ladies Aid.

She entered the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison about two weeks ago. During this time her condition improved and she planned on getting out of the hospital for her son's wedding. She died unexpectedly early Friday, February 14, on her son's wedding day.

She is survived by her husband LeRoy Schagt of Ida Grove; one daughter Jeannie, wife of Dana Jorgensen of Arapahoe, Nebraska; one son, Ronnie of Manilla and his wife Mary; her mother, Mrs. Amelia Weinbrandt of Manning; three sisters, Donna, wife of Donald Koch of Charter Oak, Myra, wife of James Jensen of Mesa, Arizona, and Beverly, wife of Kenneth Hollander of Harlan. She attained to 48 years, 11 months and 18 days.

Bearers were Gaylord Boeck, Eldo Hollander, Harvey Wellendorf, Melvin Gertz, Allen Jorgensen and Herbert Wellendorf. Interment was in the Morgan Township Cemetery.

Lois (Moeller) Vosgerau (1922 - 2007)

Lois Mae Vosgerau was born January 2, 1922, the daughter of Nickolaus and Lena Wallverton Moeller. She died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at her home in Denison, Iowa at the age of 85.

Lois was born in Omaha, Nebraska and received her education near her home, graduating from Denison High School with the class of 1940. She was baptized in Christ on October 29, 1944 and was later confirmed on November 5, 1944 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She then worked as a nurses aid for Dr. Roeh and as a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward.

On January 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to Harold Vosgerau at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. C.W. Schmidt. The couple made their home in Denison and were blessed with the birth of two children. She worked by Harold's side in his dental office for many years, taking care of his bookkeeping. Lois was a very talented china painter, and enjoyed teaching others to paint, in addition to having her own shop where she sold her work. She also enjoyed doll making, working in her yard, playing bingo, and playing cards with her card club.

She loved decorating for Christmas not only in her own home, but also at the McHenry House and WESCO. Each year, she took responsibility for decorating the front tree at WESCO. She enjoyed keeping in touch with her classmates, and met with them each month. Volunteering was very important to her, as she served as an Advocate for the Elderly at Eventide Lutheran Home, as an open class arts and crafts superintendent at the Crawford County Fairgrounds, and helped at WESCO for more than 25 years.

She made many, many friends at WESCO, whom she loved and they loved her in turn. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, which was very important to her, especially her Ladies Aid group, of which she was a member for over 55 years. She spent many years as one of the over-all chairman of the Annual Ladies Aid Smorgasbord, of the Mother -Daughter Banquet, and the Ladies Aid Christmas Party.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 1981; and her son Douglas. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Vosgerau-Wickstrom and her husband, Bo of Conifer, Colorado; and two step-grandchildren, Kara and Kristen Wickstrom of Sheridan, Montana; other relatives and many special friends.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2007 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the services and grave side rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided service music and accompaniment for the congregational hymn "I'm But a Stranger Here." Soloist Eldon Hardekopf sang "On Eagle's Wings." and "Amazing Grace." Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Michael Mundt, Art Boettger, Joe Klein, Denny Fossberg, Merle LuVaas, and Earl McCash. Those serving as pallbearers were Michael Moeller, Jerry Boettger, Dennis Mohr, Larry LuVaas, Rick Moeller, and Rick Frank. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Lorna (Petersen) Aldag (1946 - 2003)

Lorna M. Aldag, age 56, of Huntley, Nebraska, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, from injuries sustained in a car accident three miles north of Huntley, Nebraska, while enroute to work in Kearney, Nebraska.

Services were held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2003, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney, Nebraska with Pastor Russell Sommerfeld officiating. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Mrs. Robin Boell was the organist and congregational hymns were "How Great Thou Art", "Nearer, My God, To Me" and "What A Friend".

Mrs. Lorna Mae Aldag was born the only child to Lorenz August Petersen and Elnora Fredericka (Knudsen) Petersen on October 13, 1946 at Battle Creek, Iowa. Lorna was baptized on November 3, 1946 in the rural Grant Lutheran Church near Schleswig, Iowa and later confirmed on March 26, 1961 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Schleswig. She attended schools at Schleswig, where she graduated from high school with the class of 1964. After high school, Lorna attended the National Business College at Sioux City, Iowa. She had completed numerous classes with the American Banking Association.

On December 5, 1965, Miss Lorna Mae Petersen was united in marriage to James Henry Aldag at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. To this union two sons Travis James and Troy Alan were born. The Aldags resided on the family farms near Ida Grove, in Ida County, Iowa where "Jim" farmed and Lorna worked as a secretary in the shipping department of Gomaco Paving Machinery Company. They moved into Schleswig in 1990. They moved to Kearney, Nebraska in April of 1994 and Lorna became employed at Builders Warehouse and as secretary and bookkeeper of the family business, Countryside Construction. In 1999, Lorna became employed at the Kearney State Bank, where she was presently the head teller. The Aldags had moved to the VanDyke farmstead northwest of Huntley in December of 2001.

Lorna was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. Her hobbies were gardening, raising puppies and horses. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Lorna had recently had surgery and been treated for cancer and was on the road to recovery.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1990; her mother-in-law, Leona Aldag; and a brother-in-law John or "Jack" Winsor.

Lorna leaves to mourn her passing, her loving and devoted husband "Jim" of their rural home north of Alma; her two sons, Travis of Ida Grove, Iowa and Troy and wife, Michele of Vernon, Connecticut; four grandchildren, Austin and Melissa Aldag at home with their father in Ida Grove, Iowa and Casey and Cailyn Aldag at home with their parents in Vernon, Connecticut; her mother, Mrs. Elnora (Knudsen) Petersen of Schleswig, Iowa; her father-in-law, Theodore or "Theo" Aldag of Schleswig, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Janice Winsor of Kearney, Nebraska and JoAnn Clausen and husband, Larry of Schleswig, Iowa; many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.

Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren, Austin Aldag, Casey Aldag, Melissa Aldag and Cailyn Aldag. Pallbearers were Frank Dineen, Doug Meyers, Brian Eberle, Chad Petersen, Kim Johnson and Lyle Raasch. A memorial fund has been established to the American Cancer Society, Omaha, Nebraska.

Louis H. Bruhn (1904 - 1986)

Louis Herman Bruhn son of Peter and Marie (Fick) Bruhn was born Oct. 9, 1904; in Soldier Township, rural Mapleton. He was baptized March 28, 1905 at Immanuel and confirmed March 28, 1920 also at the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

He married Garent Ernst, Feb. 2, 1930, at Schleswig, Iowa. They farmed in the Mapleton and Charter Oak communities until 1974 when they retired and moved to Mapleton.

Louis Herman Bruhn died, July 17, 1986 at his home in Mapleton after a short illness. Having reached the age of 81 years, nine months and eight days. Louis Bruhn was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. A past trustee of Immanuel Lutheran Church and former member of Immanuel Lutheran School Board in Soldier Township. He was a past School director of rural Mapleton School and a member of the Mapleton Senior Citizens Club where he served on the task force and advisory board.

Survivors include his wife; Garent, a daughter; Mrs. Wayne (Lois) Harmening of Carroll, three sons, Virgil of Mapleton, Curtiss of Denison and David of Charter Oak; two brothers, Leo of Mapleton, Irvin of Denison, a sister; Mrs. Carl (Hilda) Brockman of Mountain Home, Ark., 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death 11 by his parents, four brothers, two-sisters and one son Lowel.

Funeral services were held July 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Mapleton. Officiating was Vicar Steve Hulke, Norma Dose was organist. Pallbearers were Orville Groth, Dale Bruhn, LaVern Eyer, Vertus Brockman, Dennis Bruhn, Edwin Vahlkamp. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mapleton with Walter Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Lydia (Jensen) Heiden (1889 - 1974)

Lydia Marie Heiden, 85, daughter of Hans and Agnes Bruhn Jensen, was born September 2, 1889, and died October 29, 1974, at the Denison Manor in Denison. Mrs. Heiden was born on a farm near Denison and received her education in schools in the Denison area.

On March 6, 1927, she was united in marriage to Malcolm Heiden in Denison. They settled in Denison where Mr. Heiden was employed as a district salesman and bulk agent for Standard Oil. Mrs. Heiden has been in ill health for the past several years and entered Denison Manor about one and a half years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm, her parents, four brothers, Henry, Rudolph, Hugo and Emil and one sister, Christine Naeve. Survivors include several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 31, 1974 at 2 p.m. at the Huebner Funeral Chapel with Rev. Cecil Latta officiating. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist. Pallbearers were Harry Peters, Henry Heller, Earl Harvey, Barney Otto, Leo Theilen, Pete Heiden, Glenn Harvey, and Paul Conway. Burial was made in the Oakland Cemetery, Denison.

Lydia (Fester) Bohlmann (1885 - 1982)

Lydia Sophie Bohlmann was born on December 28, 1885 in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Wilhelmine Lamp Fester. She died on Monday, January 25, 1982 at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa at the age of 96.

Lydia was baptized as an infant In 1886 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover Township and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1899 at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Soldier Township. She spent her early years on a family farm in Charter Oak Township. Lydia received her formal education at Immanuel Lutheran School.

On March 5, 1908, Lydia was united in marriage to August Bohlmann at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Together they made their first home on a farm in Soldier Township. Later they moved to a farm in Charter Oak Township. After retiring from the farm in 1959, they moved to Charter Oak. Lydia and August entered a nursing home in Denison before moving to Mapleton where they were residents of Maple Heights.

August died in 1970 and since that time, Lydia has continued to make Maple Heights her home. Lydia was a life long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of the Immanuel Ladies Aid.

Ia addition to her parents and her husband, Lydia was preceded in death by two sons, Erwin and Raymond, two daughters, Edna and Esther, three brothers and two sisters, and three grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Carl of Charter Oak and Elmer of Schleswig, one daughter, Mrs. Irma Maas of Charter Oak, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Ohm of, Mapleton and Mrs. Clara Bohlmann of Ricketts.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 28, 1982 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. The Rev. E. E. Greene officiated at the services. Serving as pallbearers were James Slechta, Leon Maas, DuWayne Bohlmann, Virtus Bohlmann, Verdell Wodtke and Dale Engelke.

Lynn (Backhaus) Braeker (1956 - 1984)

Lynn Renee Backhaus Braeker was born on March 2, 1956, at Denison, the daughter of Fred and Patricia Munson Backhaus. She died on Thursday, November 15, 1984, at her home in Lawton, Oklahoma, at the age of 28.

Lynn was raised in the Schleswig community, She graduated from the Schleswig High School where she was active in music in 1974, She graduated from the Patricia Stevens School in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1975. Lynn remained in Omaha for a brief time where she was employed. Later she enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in Korea and Germany while completing two tours of duty.

On December 23, 1983. Lynn was united in marriage to Joseph Braeker at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, After completing her duty in Germany, they made their home in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Lynn was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Backhaus and her maternal grandfather Ronald Munson. Survivors include her husband Joe of Lawton, Oklahoma, her parents, Fred and Patricia Backhaus of Schleswig, one brother Ronald Backhaus of Denison, one sister, Andrea, Mrs, Jeff Oppenheimer of Orlando, Florida and by her maternal grandmother, Mrs Dorothe Munson of Denison, Also surviving are three nieces, Rachel, Aja-Lynn and Jamie and by one nephew, Clinton as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 19, 1984, at 10:30 a .m., at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, The Rev. Fred Moore officiated at the services. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig with full military rites provided by the Schleswig American Legion and V.F.W. Music for the services included Mrs, Dorothy Jessen as organist with soloists, Barb Buffum, Janet Lafrentz and Pam Gronau, Hymns included "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer".

Mabel C. (Neubaum) Jeschke (1906 - 2005)

Mabel C. Jeschke was born December 16, 1906, the daughter of William and Ida Mohr Neubaum. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Sunday, July 31, 2005, at the age of ninety-eight.

Mabel was born on a farm in Hanover Township, near Charter Oak. She received her education at St. Paul's Lutheran School near her home. She was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church, February 24,1907. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, March 25, 1923. After completing her education, she helped her family on the farm before she moved with her family to Schleswig where she met Gus Jeschke.

The couple were united in marriage on June 17, 1925 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township. The couple settled on her family's home farm and were blessed with the birth of one son. In her leisure time, Mabel enjoyed working around the farm, caring for her garden and the farm animals. It was her fondest dream to become a veterinarian. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gustav in 1973, her son, Loren in 1991 and her brother, Edmon. Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Carl Jeschke and Mrs. Otto Jeschke and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernst officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Shirley Stull provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But a Stranger Here". Those serving as pallbearers were Freddie Friedrichsen, Berdell Jeschke, Russel Riessen, Darlo Jeschke, Mark Spiegel, Jerry Stull and Korey Jeschke. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.

Mabel (Thompson) Bidlack (1893 - 1988)

Mabel E. Thompson, eldest daughter of Wilford A. and Elizabeth (Hird) Thompson, was born on April 4, 1893, on a rented farm near Manilla. In 1903, the Thompson family; moved to the farm that Mabel's grandfather had purchased in Section 1 of Nishnabotny Township in 1871. It was there that Mabel grew to womanhood. She was graduated from the Manilla High School in 1913 and then taught for five years at the Pleasant Hill School while continuing to live with her parents.

On March 14, 1918, she was married to a neighbor, Harold S. Bidlack, with whom she had attended rural school when they were children. Harold became a partner in farming with his father, Benjamin H. Bidlack, on the farm that Harold and Mabel later owned, located three miles north of the Nishnabotny Cemetery.

Mabel and Harold were active members of the Presbyterian Church in Manilla where both served as elders. Mabel was a member of the Eastern Star for over 60 years and served as Worthy Matron in 1930. She was one of the founding members of the Friendly Farmers Club in 1926. Mabel and Harold continued to live on their farm until 1973 when they moved to Manilla. It was there that they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1978. They were the parents of one child, Russell, born in 1920.

In 1980, because of Harold's failing health, they moved to Ann Arbor, Mich., to be near their son and daughter-in-law. Harold died at the Evangelical Home in Saline Mich., on Dec. 28, 1981, at the age of 88. Mabel continued to live in the same home until her death on May 1, 1988, at the age of 95.

Besides her son, Russell, and his wife, Melva, Mabel leaves four grandchildren, Stanley, Martha, Christopher and Harold, along with four great grandchildren, Lisa, Matthew, Christopher and Sarah. Her youngest sister, Alice McMullen, survives her. Another sister, Mamie McMullen, died in 1968. Her surviving nieces and nephews include Mary Louise Hulsebus of Phoenix, Ariz., Melvin McMullen of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., Ruby Heiman of Manilla and Ila McMullen of Arthur, IA .

Mabel Bidlack was always known in the Manilla community by young and old alike as "Mabel" - it was her mother-in-law who was "Mrs. Bidlack." Her outgoing personality, friendly nature, and wide interests will be long remembered by her many friends.

Funeral services were held May 5 at 2 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla. Officiating was Pastor Frank Christ of the First Presbyterian Church, Manilla. Connie Siepker was organist and Helen Ohde, vocalist. Pallbearers were Dudley Heiman, John McMullen, Roger Heiman, Bernard Jorgensen, Leonard Cadwell and Verne Cadwell. Interment was in the Nishnabotna Cemetery, Manilla.

Mahala (Johannsen) Petersen (1897 - 1987)

Mahala Petersen was born on August 25, 1897 on a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa. the daughter of Johannes Johannsen and Johanna Niemoth Johannsen. She died on Monday, March 23, 1987, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 29 days.

Mahala grew up on a farm in Goodrich township and attended rural schools. On October 31, 1897 she was baptized and was confirmed on March 2, 1917 by Rev. Wm. Frehse of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

Mahala was united in marriage to August L. Petersen on February 2, 1916 at the farm home with Rev. Wm. Frehse officiating. To this union nine children were born. Mahala and August farmed until 1973 when they moved to Denison. In the fall of 1985 they moved to Eventide Lutheran Home where they made their home until her death. August will continue to make his home there. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.

In addition to her parents, Mahala was preceded in death by three grandchildren, three brothers, four sisters, two step brothers and one step sister.

Survivors include her children: Margaret and her husband Marvine Petersen of Denison, John and his wife Loueen Petersen of Denison, Marie and her husband Ralph Marten of Denison, Anna and her husband Wilbur Harm of Denison, Edmund and his wife Marion Petersen of Denison, Leonard and his wife Arlis of Ute, Berniece and her husband Carl Segebart of Vail, Earl and his wife Barbara Petersen of Lake Park, Minn., and Betty and her husband Don Bilsten of Denison: forty five grandchildren, sixty nine great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and one sister Bertha Stone of Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday March 25, 1987 at 11 :00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. James W. Ristvedt officiating. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as Organist for congregational singing of "I'm But A Stranger Here", "Be Still My Soul" and "Let Us Ever Walk With Jesus". Serving as pallbearers were Mike Petersen, Loren Petersen, Lance Petersen, Dennis Marten, Roger Harm, Larry Petersen, James Segebart, Tim Petersen and Tom Bilsten. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison, Iowa.

Malcom Heiden (1889 - 1973)

Malcolm Heiden, son of the late Frederick and Ellen (Weed) Heiden, was born September 26, 1889, at Preston, Iowa, and died January 21, 1973 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, having attained the age of 83 years, 3 months and 25 days.

Mr. Heiden came with his parents to Denison when he was very young. He graduated from Denison high school and Denison Normal College. He was a member of the Methodist church and Church Choir, member of the Denison Volunteer Fire Department for years, of the Masonic Lodge Scottish Rite and Abu Beker Shrine of Sioux City, Iowa. He was very active in his church and community.

He was united in marriage to Lydia Jensen of Denison on March 6, 1927. Mr. Heiden was a mail carrier, district salesman for Standard Oil and bulk agent for Standard Oil before retiring in 1954.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Survivors include his wife Lydia of Denison; one sister, Marie, Mrs. Alfred Madsen or Waukegan, Illinois; one brother, Earl in California; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison on Wednesday, January 24, 1973, at 11 a. m. with the Rev. Jerold Irvin officiating. Interment was made in Oakland Cemetery at Denison with the following serving as pallbearers: Earl Harvey, Pete Heiden, Earl McKeighan, Barney Otto, Robert Rath and Rex Ruch. Huebner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Malinda Koch (1904 - 1997)

Malinda Louise Koch was born April 5, 1904, the daughter of Paul and Marie Reissen Koch. She died Saturday, December 27, 1997, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison at the age of ninety-three.

Malinda was born on a farm in Grant Township, near Ida Grove, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ, April 24, 1904 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grant Township and later confirmed there on April 13, 1919. She received her education in a rural school near her home and the Trinity Lutheran School. After completing her education, Malinda helped her family on the farm, and in their home.

In 1954, she moved to Denison with her mother, While in Denison, she helped various families as needed. She was later employed at Eventide where she worked in the kitchen. In her leisure time, Malinda enjoyed crocheting, her vegetable and flower gardens, and especially enjoyed baking cookies. She had a positive attitude toward life and worked hard at improving the things that were most important to her. She was a caring and loving person who was willing to put others ahead of herself. Malinda was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and was currently a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Rudie Koch and in infancy, Robert, Roland, Lester and twins, Marvin and Harvey Koch; four sisters, Helen Sonksen, Doretta Fonken, Luella Robinsen and in infancy, Viola Koch; five brothers-in-law, John Fonken, Harry Fredericks, Marvin Germeroth, Albert Abbe, Jack Sonksen; and two sisters-in-law, Heneritta Koch and Helen Koch.

Survivors include three sisters, Hedwig Abbe and Selma Fredericks, of Schleswig; and Marjorie Germeroth of Greeley, Colorado; two brothers, Albrecht Koch and Donald Koch and his wife, Donna, all of Schleswig; and one brother-in-law, Cleo "Bud" Robinson and his wife, Bernice of Danbury, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 1997, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Grant Township, Ida Grove, Iowa. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "How Great Thou Art", "Jesus Your Blood and Righteousness", "Nearer, My God To Thee" and "I'm But A Stranger Here". Honorary pallbearers were Jim Fredericks, Kenny Robinsen, Beep Sonksen, Veryl Robinsen, Delwin Koch and Allen Fonken. Pallbearers were DeWayne Sonksen, Richard Germeroth, Donnie Koch, Roger Koch, Gary Koch and Larry Abbe. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret C. (Ramm) Neubauer (1899 - 1995)

Margaret Catherine Neubauer was born at Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, August 10, 1899, the daughter of William Dethlef Christian and Bertha Marie Henrietta Gehrke Ramm. In April of 1900 her family came to America and settled at Battle Creek, Iowa where she was raised, receiving her education in the rural schools.

On December 3, 1919 Margaret was united in marriage with Ferdinand Neubauer at the Lutheran Parsonage in Ida Grove, Iowa. They made their home on the farm at Schleswig. Having been baptized in Germany, Margaret was confirmed May 8, 1928 at Ev. Friedens Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Ferd and Margaret farmed for 17 years before moving to Denison in 1937 where she had since resided. She was employed at the Armour Egg Plant in Denison for many years and later was employed as a housekeeper for various families in Denison, retiring in 1975. Margaret and Ferd enjoyed their retirement years in Denison and had the privilege of sharing over 73 years of married life together. Ferdinand died March 23, 1993.

Margaret continued to reside in her home in Denison where she enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends and relatives. Margaret died at her home Wednesday morning, November 8, 1995. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 96 years, 2 months and 28 days. She was a member of the United Church Of Christ in Schleswig.

Including her parents and her husband, Margaret was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, Charles Ramm, Louise Jors, Frieda Seehusen, Esther Neubauer, Clara Wulf and William Ramm, Jr.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are nieces and nephews including Leslie and Louella Neubauer who assisted Margaret with her needs, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 1995 at the United Church Of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa with the Rev. James M. Schatz officiating. Music for the service was provided by Rubie Kastner singing "Beyond The Sunset" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" with Evelyn Johnson serving as organist. Casket bearers included Arnold Jepsen, Nick Wilken, Glenn Segebart, Edwin Rusch, Elmer Rusch and Rick Anderson. Interment was in the Morgan Cemetery at Schleswig, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret (Weller) Brus (1911 - 1976)

Margaret Pauline (Wellu) Brus daughter of John and Emma Theis Weller was born March 26, 1911 at Buck Grove Iowa. She attended school at Buck Grove.

She was united in marriage with Henry Brus on December 25, 1937. They farmed near Dow City and later northwest of Manilla until retiring in Manilla in 1968.

Margaret was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. She has enjoyed good health until suffering a severe stroke about a week ago and she passed away on Saturday April 17, 1976 at the Crawford Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 65 years and 22 days.

Preceding her in death were her, parents, three brothers and one sister.
Survivors are her husband Henry, nine children; Henry, Council Bluffs; Jeanette, Mrs. Benny Mott, Pleasantville, Iowa; George, Sac City, Dwight, at home, Manilla; Jerry, Denison; Judith; Mrs. Marvin Nobiling, Carroll; Joan; Mrs. Richard Santee, Omaha, Nebraska; John, Denison and Steven, Denison; by, eleven grandchildren and six sisters; Mrs. Olga Beerman, Denison; Mrs. Johanna Nulle, Denison; Mrs. Alfrieda Voege, Manning; Mrs. Louis Rickers; Westside; and Mrs, Walter, Brockman, Carroll, and Mrs. Victor Kohlbeck, Fort Worth, Texas, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services Were Monday, April 19, 1976, at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Manilla, Iowa. Rev. Victor Hoyer, officiating. Pallbearers were Clarence Denker, Harold Beerman, Ivan Rickers, Verdall Brus, Bob Lohrmann and Harold Voege. Interment was in Nishnabotna Cemetery, Ohde Funeral Home, Manilla, in charge of arrangements.

Marie (Andresen) Adams (1907 - 1981)

Marie Sophie Adams was born on November 22, 1907 in East Boyer Township, the daughter of George and Johanna Rogge Andresen. She died early Monday morning, February 2, 1981, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa at the age of 73.

Marie was raised on a family farm in East Boyer Township. She received her formal education in the rural schools near her home. For a brief time she was employed in Denison.

On February 12, 1930, Marie was united in marriage to Albert Adams at Denison. They made their home on a farm northwest of Denison until 1978 when they retired from the farm and moved to Denison.

Marie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was baptized on January 25, 1908 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 25, 1923.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by one sister Esther.
Survivors include, her husband, Albert of Denison, one son, Albert Jr. of Denison, two daughters, Beverly, Mrs. Charles Rhodes of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and Marylyn, Mrs. Bernhard Petersen of Schleswig, seven grandchildren, one step grandchild and two step great-grandchildren. Also by three brothers, Walter Andresen of Moorhead, Iowa, William Andresen of Denison, Iowa and Wilbur Andresen of Columbia, Missouri, and three sisters, Edna, Mrs, Henry Holst of Moorhead, Hilda, Mrs. Joe Kessel of Deloit and Irene, Mrs. Rex Littleton of Denison.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 5, 1981 at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. The Rev. Jack Heck officiated at the services. Pallbearers included, Donald Littleton, David Littleton, Glen Holst, Darrell Andresen, Tom McCullough and Frank Vandivort.

Martha C. (Huebner) Nahnsen (1909 - 2006)

Martha Christina Bertha Nahnsen was born March 16, 1909 and adopted by Albert and Friedricke Kemming Huebner on September 23, 1913. She died on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-seven.

Martha was baptized, September 1913 in Hanover Township and confirmed March 25, 1923 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. She received her education in Denison, Iowa.

On December 25, 1927, Martha was united in marriage to Leo T. Nahnsen of Paton, Iowa in Denison, Iowa. The couple farmed for six years in Webster County and then moved to a farm southwest of Schleswig, where Martha helped with all types of farm work. In 1959, they moved to Schleswig and into their new home in 1966.

Martha was a life-long member in the Lutheran Church and a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. She was also a Ladies Aid and Choir Member. She loved traveling, fishing, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved flower and vegetable gardening, sewing and crocheting.

In 2000, Martha moved to the Reed House in Denison due to failing health. She spent several months at the Manilla Manor in 2002, returning to Denison and entering the Eventide Lutheran Home in 2003.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; granddaughter, Mary Sue Ehler and fifteen brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Survivors include one daughter, Rheta Ehler and her husband, Edward of Parkston, South Dakota; one son, Gordon Nahnsen and his wife, Joan of Schleswig; six grandchildren, Scott Ehler and his wife, Phyllis; Marc Ehler and his wife, Kim; and Jeri Ehler, all of Parkston, South Dakota; Lina Koontz and her husband, Kevin of Dallas, Texas; Neal Nahnsen and his wife, Doris of Schleswig and Lori Olson and her husband, Gene of Montevideo, Minnesota; seven great-grandchildren, Paul, Adam and Jena Nahnsen; Sean, Aaron, Kaycee and Mathew Ehler; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the services and grave side rites held at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Organist Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns, "I'm But a Stranger Here," "Be Still, My Soul," and "Abide With Me." Those serving as pallbearers were: Neal Nahnsen, Gene Olson, Scott Ehler, Marc Ehler, Lori Olson, and Jeri Ehler. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of the arrangements.

Martin A. Hageman (1905 - 1975)

Martin August Hageman, son of John and Ida Bohlmann Hageman was born April 13, 1905, near Charter Oak, and died Monday Dec 15, 1975 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 70 years, 8 months, and 2 days.
Mr. Hageman was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended the parochial school at Ricketts.

On Aug. 12, 1931, he was united in marriage to Clara Mathilda Preul of Charter Oak. They settled on a farm near Ricketts, then lived on various farms in the Ricketts area until 1950, when they moved to a farm west of Denison. Mrs. Hageman died March 9, 1975. Mr. Hageman continued to live on the farm until several weeks ago when he entered the hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Clara, three brothers, Ben, Otto and Carl, and one sister, Mabel.

Survivors include his two,sisters, Hilda (Mrs. John Freeman) of Denver, Colo., and, Marie (Mrs. William Kuhlmann) of Ricketts, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ricketts, with Reverend Robert Leege officiating. Pallbearers were Roger Sims, Ralph Hillhouse, Vincent Keating, Arthur Boettger, Victor Schwarz, and Clarence Denker. Interment was made in, Crawford Heights Memory Garden in Denison, with Huebner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Martin G. Bielow (1902 - 1984)

Martin Gustav Bielow was born on May 14, 1902 at Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Christian and Emilie Riege Bielow. He died on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 1984 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, at the age of 81.

Martin was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He spent his formative years on the family farm in Hanover. After the completion of his education at St. Paul's Lutheran School he started his farming career.

On September 3, 1930, Martin was united in marriage to Edna Huebner at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Together they made their home on the farm where Martin was born in Hanover.

Martin was a life long member of St. Paul's. He served as an Elder in the church for 17 years. He was active for more than 40 years in the choir, served as superintendent of the Sunday School and was active with the Lutheran Laymans League.

In addition to his parents, Martin was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Carl, Walter, and Herman and one sister, Elsa Rix.

Survivors include, his wife Edna of rural Charter Oak, one daughter, Shirley, Mrs. Jerry Stull of Kansas City, MO, one grandson, one great grand daughter and three step grandchildren. Also surviving are a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 10, 1984 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery. The, Rev. S.W. Holstein officiated at the services. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist with the congregation singing hymns, How Great Thou Art, I'm But A Stranger Here and I Know That My Redeemer Lives. Serving as pallbearers were Martin Spiegel, Delbert Gierstorf, Art Bohlmann, Allen Schau, Herb Bohlmann and Charles Green. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Charter Oak.

Martin H. Hansen (1885 - 1961)

Martin Henry Hansen, son of August Hansen and Ida nee Carstensen, was born June 15, 1885 in Lyons. At the age of five he came with his parents to Crawford county where he grew to manhood.

He was married to Caroline Ploog on Aug. 26, 1914. After their marriage they resided on the farm in Goodrich township. He retired from active farming some 20 years ago. In poor health for several months, he died at his home north of Denison on April 9 at 2:30 a. m.

Surviving are his widow; two sons, August and John of Denison; nine grandchildren; three brothers Harry of Tucson, Ariz., John of Walker and Adolph of Denison; and one sister, Mrs. Emma Reimer of Schleswig. A son and two daughters and two brothers; Charles and Bernhard, preceded him in death.

He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church and his funeral service was held at the Zion Lutheran church April 12, with the Rev. Carl M. Schmidt officiating. Interment was made in the Morgan Township cemetery. Pallbearers were Lester Gustaf, Raymond Hansen, William Reimer, J. Henry Schroeder, Clarence Mohr and Bernie Hansen.

Maryalyce (Riley) Bukacek (1923 - 1987)

Maryalyce Bukacek was born on June 20, 1923, at Fairfield, Ia., the daughter of Harry Riley and Launa Eagle Riley. She died at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison on May 18, 1987, at the age of 63 years.

Maryalyce moved to Crawford County with her parents when she was eight years of age. She attended rural schools.

On July 20, 1941 she was united in marriage to Stanley Bukecek of Vail, in Vail, by the Rev. D. C. , Davis. To this union two sons were born. They made their home on a farm northeast of Vail for four years when they moved to a farm west of Vail. In 1969 they moved to Deloit where they resided until her death. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Denison.

In addition to her parents, Maryalyce was preceded in death by one brother, James Riley, and one sister, Helen Slechta.

She is survived by her husband. Stanley, two sons Stanley and his wife Jackie Bukacek of Denison, and Roger and his wife Carolyn Bukacek of Denison, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, three brothers: William Riley of Denison, Oral Riley of Deloit and George Riley of Burbank, Calif., three sisters; Lorene McCullough of Vail, Dorothy Boldin of Denison and Mrs. Art (Ada) Helkenn of Schleswig, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held May 21, at the United Presbyterian Church of Denison, with Rev. James Cobb officiating. Mrs. Roy Voggesser served as organist with Henry Henningsen, soloist, singing "In The Garden" and ''How Great Thou Art". Serving as pallbearers were Robert Riley, Tom McCullough Jr., Wesley Riley, Bradley Riley, Tim Helkenn and Gaylon Reetz. Burial was in Crawford, Heights Memory Gardens of Denison. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Mary (Jurgensen) Preuss (1889 - 1972)

Mrs. Mary Dorothy Preuss, daughter of Edlef and Margarette (Peetz) Jurgensen, was born January 29, 1889, in Crawford County, Iowa, and died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness on Monday, October 9, 1972 at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 10 days.

Mary was born and raised on a farm, attended rural schools, was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak and had lived in Crawford County all her life.

On January 24, 1912, she was united in marriage to August Preuss of Charter Oak at Charter Oak. They settled on a farm near Ricketts. To this union three children were born. After the death of her husband in 1919, she made her home in Ricketts.

She is survived by one daughter Margaret, Mrs. Joe Remmes of Charter Oak, Iowa; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one sister, Caroline Grell of Ricketts; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband August, two sons Alfred and Raymond six brothers, Hans, Jurgen, Mauritz, Edlef, John and Herman, and one sister Hannah.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 12, at 1 p.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ricketts with Rev. Mark F. Broecker officiating. Mrs. Loren Lee served as organist. Interment was made in Morgan Township Cemetery at Schleswig with the following serving as pallbearers: John Bascom, Walter Freidricksen, Earl Hennings, Robert Johannsen, Erwin Voss and Gilbert Voss. Huebner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary (Miller) Fineran (1917 - 1996)

Mary Margaret Miller Fineran was born November 15, 1917, in Ute, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Mary Hagen Miller. She died on Wednesday, April 10, 1996 at her home. Mary spent her early years on a family farm near Charter Oak. She attended the St. Boniface Catholic school in Charter Oak.

In her late teenage years she met Bill Fineran while working in Denison. They were united in marriage on October 1, 1936 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Together they made their first home in Minnesota for a brief time before moving to a farm near Ute. A short time later they moved to the Boyer area. Since 1947 Mary made her home on the same farm near Boyer. Her husband, Bill, died in 1983.

Mary was a long time member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Odebolt. She was an honorary member of the Ladies Society. Mary's life has been one of generous sharing of her time and talents for her family and others. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family and was happiest and proudest when she was with them. She enjoyed occupying her leisure time in her garden and caring for her yard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, in 1983; one daughter, Sharon, in 1989; her son-in-law, Richard Kepford, in 1988; and one granddaughter, Lori Fineran Hagerty, one sister, Elsie Keating and one brother, Art Miller.

Survivors include: two sons Roger W. Fineran and his wife, Gerry of Odebolt, W. David Fineran and his wife, Ellen of Odebolt, Sister Shirley Fineran of Sioux City, Iowa; and Therese Teiber and her husband, John of Durango, Colorado. Also, eighteen grandchildren: Doug Kepford, Mark Kepford, Kathy Wong, Randy Kepford, Steve Kepford, Brian Fineran, S Sgt. Larry Fineran, Christine Christie, Denise Coleman, Michele Rumon, Angela Bengford, Jennifer Fineran, Jeff Fineran, Suzanne Fineran, Jason Fineran, Sherri Fineran, Tonya Teiber, Jeremy Teiber, twenty-three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Smith and Betty Sievers both of Omaha and Gene Miller of Silver City, New Mexico; five sisters-in-law, Louise Schroeder, Agnes Dalton, LaJune Fineran, Sister Noreen Fineran all of Denison and Catherine Fineran of Odebolt and one brother-in-law, Gerald Fineran and his wife, Norma of Denison.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 1996 at the St. Martin's Catholic Church in Odebolt, Iowa. Fr. Brian Hughes served as Celebrant with interment at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison, Iowa. Sister Arnold Staudt provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Kevin Christie who sang"Gentle Woman". Grandchildren serving as pallbearers were: Doug Kepford, Brian Fineran, Jeff Fineran, Jeremy Teiber, Mark Kepford, Jason Fineran, Kathy Wong, Suzanne Fineran, Larry Fineran, Steve Kepford, Angie Bengford, Jennifer Fineran, Chris Christie, Randy Kepford, Denise Coleman, Michele Rumon, Tonya Teiber and Sherri Fineran. A Parish Wake Service and Rosary was held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 12, 1996 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Max F. Borchmann (1901 - 1987)

Max F. Borchmann was born on May 3, 1901 in Rugenwalde by the Baltic Sea in Germany the son of Julius Borchmann and Marie Groth Borchmann. He died at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha on April 30, 1987at the age of 85 years.

Max attended schools in Germany. He studied to be an electrician. He worked as an apprentice before becoming a master electrician. In 1922 he came to the United States where he settled at Ute. He was sponsored by Louie Fester of Ute. Later the same year he moved to LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

On June 7, 1924, Max was married to Natalie Krueger in a Lutheran Church in LaCrosse, Wisconsin by the Rev. Gamm. In 1927 Max and Natalie moved to Mapleton, and in 1930, moved to Soldier Township where they farmed unti1 1939. At that time he worked as a independent electrician for the REA. In 1958 they moved to Denver, Colo., where he worked as an electrical maintenance man at St. Luke's Hospital in Denver. In 1964 they returned to Iowa moving to Spirit Lake They came back to the Soldier Township area in 1966 moving into the Immanuel Lutheran Parsonage. Later they moved to Charter Oak where he lived until his death.

Max and Natalie were the parents of two children. He was a fifty year member of the Soldier Township Lutheran Church and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.

In addition to his parents, Max was preceded in death by two brothers Fritz and Emil and one grandson. He is survived by his wife Natalie, his son Max and his wife Betty Borchmann of Council Bluffs and daughter Shirley and her husband Ronald Kelm of Charter Oak, seven grandchildren and; eleven great-grandchildren, two sisters, Elisa Pashur and Erna Schneider, both living in West Germany.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Rev. L.C. Gebhardt officiated. Mrs. Paul Clausen served as organist for the St. John's Ladies choir singing "I'm But A Stranger Here" and the congregation singing "Abide With Me". Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Soldier Township. Serving as pallbearers were Gailen Meseck, Dennis Meseck, Laverne Strait, Emil Bielfeldt, David Bruhn, and Lester Krueger. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner funeral Home in Charter Oak

Maxine (Hansohn) Namanny (1931 - 2003)

Maxine Namanny was born May 7, 1931, the daughter of Albert and Clara Schmadeke Hansohn. She died Friday, May 2, 2003, at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of seventy-one.

Maxine was born on the family farm near Kiron where she grew up. She began her formal education in a rural school near her home, graduated from the Kiron Community High School with the class of 1948 and continued her education at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. After completing her education, Maxine returned to Crawford County, and began working at Montgomery Ward in Denison. She subsequently worked for E. A. Norelius.

On December 5, 1954, Maxine was united in marriage to Wilbert Namanny by Rev. C.W. Schmidt at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison. The couple settled on the Hansohn family farm and were blessed with the birth of six children. In 1967, she began working at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, remaining there for sixteen years. In the early 1980's, she was employed by CB Electronics in Schleswig for eight years before becoming a dietary technician at the Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center, working there until her death. In 1984, the couple moved to Kiron.

In her leisure time, Maxine enjoyed reading cook books, word search puzzles and traveling both on cruises and touring the United States. She especially loved dancing and also enjoyed caring for her vegetable and flower gardens and cooking, especially for family gatherings. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was involved with her grand children's activities and other family events. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township east of Kiron.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, Nicole Namanny, and one son-in-law, Reggie Bruhn. Survivors include her husband, Wilbert of Kiron; four daughters, Kathy Lickteig and her husband, Mike of Kiron; Debbie Bruhn and Becky Schwarz and her husband, Mitchell all of Schleswig; Pam Lackman and her husband, Charles of Denison; two sons, James Namanny and John Namanny both of Kiron and twelve grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron, Iowa. Rev. Victor Johnson officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Kiron. Margaret Ann Buller provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymn "On Eagle's Wings". Special service music played was "If You Could See Now" by Truth and "To Where You Are" by Josh Groban. Those serving as pallbearers were: Nicholas Lackman, Zachary Schwarz, Aaron Schwarz. Brooke Lackman, Jordan Lickteig, Megan Lackman, Clinton Bruhn, Taylor Lickteig, Erika Lickteig, Derick Bruhn, Kelsey and Hollie.

Max W. Denker (1900 - ?)

Max William Denker, the son of Chris Denker and his wife Freia nee Heide, was born July 29, 1900 at Denison. In early infancy he was baptized in the name of the Trinity and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Zion Lutheran church of Denison.

He was married to Paulina Thomsen on Feb. 14, 1923 a union to which five children were born. After their marriage they farmed in Goodrich Township. He became ill about a year ago and was taken a Sioux City hospital in June where he underwent surgery. With the exception of four weeks spent in his home he was hospitalized in Sioux City and Denison until the time of his death on Dec. 12. He had been admitted to the Denison hospital Oct. 7.

His death is survived by his widow, Paulina, by three sons: Clarence, Elmer and Virgil of Denison; by two daughters, Mrs. Virgene Ahrenholtz of Manilla and Mrs. Ruby Lorenzen of Denison; 19 grandchildren, three brothers, Hugo, Rudolf and Walter of Denison and two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Haase and Ella Denker of Denison. Two brothers, Paul and Herman and one sister, Olga, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Zion Lutheran church on Dec. 16 with the Rev. Carl W. Schmidt officiating. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery with the following acting as pallbearers: Hugo Denker, Jr., Irwin Denker, Paul Denker, Jr., Robert Denker, Derald Evers and Edward Lee Ransom. Huebner Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Merle M. Birkhofer (1900 - 1981)

Merle M. Birkhofer was born on Sept. 17, 1900, near Dow City, Iowa, the son of Frank and Clara Rudd Birkhofer. He died Mar. 15, 1981, at the Denison Care Center, Denison, at the age of 80.

Merle was raised on a family farm. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home. After the completion of his education he began a career of farming with his father. Merle continued to farm on the family home place after his father's death and later his mothers.

In 1956, Merle was united in marriage to Violet Paris at Denison. Merle established a welding business in the later 1950's on the Clarence Denker farm near Denison where he also made his home.

In addition to his parents, Merle was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Arthur and two sisters, Rosa Tracy and Nettie Ullerich.

Survivors include, three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Weller of the Denison Care Center, Mrs. Goldie Chamberlin of Des Moines and Pearl, Mrs. Roy Tech of Denison. Also by a number of nieces, nephews and friends including Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Denker of Denison.

Funeral services were held Mar. 18, at 2 p.m. at the, Huebner Funeral Home, Denison, Burial was in the Dow City Cemetery near Dow City. Lois Peterson and, Lynette Lee officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Dale Tech, Howard Birkhofer, Ray Chamberlin, Kenneth Bartlett, John Mattson, John Henry. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Meta (Naeve) Bielenberg (1892 - 1981)

Meta Bielenberg was born on April 24, 1892 in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Emma Tietjens Naeve. She died on, Tuesday afternoon, June 2, 1981, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa at the age of 89.

Meta was raised on a family farm in Goodrich Township. She received her formal education in the rural schools near her home.

On January 19, she was united in marriage to Herman C. Bielenberg at Schleswig, Iowa. Together they made their home on a farm in Morgan Township for a brief time. Later they moved to a farm in Hanover Township.

In 1951 Herman passed away. Meta continued to make her home on the farm until 1952 when she moved to Schleswig. For the past four years, Meta has been a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison. Meta was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. She has been a life long member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Meta was preceded in death by two sons in infancy, seven brothers and one sister.

Survivors include, one son Irwin of Charter Oak, one daughter LaRue, Mrs. Lawrence Bartels of Schleswig, sixteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also by one sister, Mrs. Ruth McGonigle of Jefferson, South Dakota and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 5, 1981 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery. The Rev. Fred Moore officiated at the services. Serving as pallbearers were Merle Bielenberg, Richard Bielenberg, Virgil Bielenberg, Robert Bartels, Dennis Bartels and Craig Knutzen.

Meta (Erickson) Petersen (1878 - 1967)

Funeral services for Mrs. Meta Petersen were held on Monday, August 21st at the Huebner funeral home in Denison. Mrs. Petersen, 89, died on August 17th. Rev. Donald Ripley officiated at the service. Soloist Mrs. Ellen Bruggemann sang, "Rock of Ages" and "Heaven Is My Home". She was accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Dorothy Norman.

Meta Erickson was born in Germany on May 12, 1878, the daughter of August Erickson and Lena "Jasper" Erickson. She came to America at the age of 12 and later was baptized and confirmed in the Free Evangelical Faith.

On March 31, 1910 she was united in marriage in Denison to Peter Petersen and to this union 2 sons were born.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died on their 21st wedding anniversary March 31, 1931; 2 great-grandchildren; 7 brothers and sisters, Gustav, Adolph, Paul, William, Frieda and two in infancy.

She leaves to mourn her two sons, Eldor, Denison and Alvin, Seaside, Calif.; 3 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother Helmut of Cedar Falls; 4 sisters; Martha Quade of Schleswig, Ella (Mrs. George) Reissen of Denison, Selma (Mrs. Fred Christiansen) of Arthur and Lillie (Mrs. Hugo Brodersen) of Schleswig.

Interment was made in the Morgan cemetery. Pallbearers were: Octavus Grill, Vernon Nihnsen, Harry Petersen, Eddie Jurgensen, Charles Noll and Melvin Petersen.

Mildred D. (Nulle) Neubauer (1929 - 2000)

Mildred Darlene Neubauer was born December 10, 1929, the daughter of Willie and Johanna Weller Nulle. She died at her home in Schleswig, Iowa on Friday, April 14, 2000 at the age of seventy.

Millie was born on a farm near Buck Grove, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on April 5, 1931 at St. John Lutheran Church, Buck Grove, Iowa by Rev. Freese and later confirmed on March 25, 1945 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. She received her education in Washington Township School and the Denison High School. After completing her education, Millie worked at Cronk's and the Spot in Denison.

On June 10, 1949, Millie was united in marriage to Leon Neubauer at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa by Rev. C. W. Schmidt. In 1951, the couple moved to a farm near Ida Grove, where they farmed until moving to Schleswig in 1985. Leon and Millie celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1999.

Millie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and their Ladies Aid. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who was always there for her family. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and canning. In her leisure time, Millie loved to sew, embroider, quilt and socialize in a game of cards with friends. She was lucky to have many lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings in infancy, two half-sisters, Edna Bandow and Margaret Hollander. Survivors include her husband, Leon of Schleswig; three daughters, Janet Neubauer of Des Moines; Lila Bubke and her husband, Tim of Schleswig; Nola Wingren and her husband, Matthew of Rochester, Minnesota; one son, Kevin Neubauer and his wife, Tammy of Ida Grove; ten grandchildren, Melissa, Jason and Kyle Bubke; Allison, Amanda, Andrew and Audrey Wingren; Natasha, Seth and Shelby Neubauer; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 P.M., Monday, April 17, 2000 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery, Schleswig, Iowa. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound" and "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me". Pallbearers were: Duane Hollander, John Zimmerman, Don Bandow, Trent Baker, Terry Abbe and Troy Baker.

Milton H. Nelson (1909 - 2000)

Milton H. Nelson was born on a farm in Otter Creek Township, Kiron, Iowa, July 18, 1909, the son of Nels Gustaf and Emily Monson Nelson. He was raised on the farm and received his education in the Kiron vicinity. Following his education he farmed with his father.

On April 13, 1941, Milton was united in marriage with Leona Louise Jepsen at Denison, Iowa. Their union was blessed with four children, Duane, Steven and twins, Lance and Linda. From 1941 until 1949 they farmed and made their homes on two different farms in Stockholm Township. In January of 1949 they moved to Denison where Milton was employed at Denison Dairy until 1961. He then was employed at the Dr. Pepper Plant and Petersen Manufacturing for a few years. In 1965 he became a custodian at the Denison Community Schools from which he retired in 1975.

He spent his retirement years in Denison with his wife where he had more time to enjoy his hobbies of gardening, yard work, trees, enjoying all that nature had to offer, and in, earlier years, fishing. Milton loved his family dearly, always interested in their activities, and when younger, enjoyed many family camping trips.

Most of all, Milton loved his Lord, having accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior when he was a teenager and being baptized in Black Hawk Lake at Lake View. Combined with his great love of his Lord and music, Milton, and his sisters, Ellen and Myrtle, formed the Nelson Trio, singing for many occasions such as community meetings, funerals and church conferences. He enjoyed gospel music, especially men's quartets, and sang with a male chorus when he was younger. At the time of his death Milton was an active member of the Denison Baptist Church having served as a deacon for many years and was honored as Deacon Emeritus. He also served as trustee, usher and Sunday School secretary.

Milton died early Wednesday, February 9, 2000, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 90 years, 6 months and 21 days.

Including his parents, Milton was preceded in death by three sisters, Minnie Gustafson, Myrtle Anderson and Ellen Gustafson and one granddaughter, Stacey Jo Nelson.

Those who remain to cherish his memory include his loving wife of over 58 years, Leona Nelson of Denison; four children, Duane Nelson and his wife, Dot of Papillion, Nebraska, Steven Nelson and his wife, Susan of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Lance Nelson and his wife, Sandy of Denison and Linda Burlingham of Plainsboro, New Jersey; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandsons, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2000 at the Denison Baptist Church, Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Art Anderson officiating. Providing a special reading for the service was Milton's granddaughter, Heidi Nelson. Music for the service included the congregation singing, "Burdens Are Lifted At Calvary" and Kim Petersen singing, "Because He Lives" and "Beyond The Sunset". Mary Jane Petersen served as organist. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home of Denison was in charge of the arrangements. Honorary bearers included Wilbur Petersen, Vernon Gustafson, James Mander and Andy Nelson. Casket bearers were Harold Thomason, James Gustafson, Jay Burlingham, David Nelson, Jerrod Hedgien and Phil Pletcher. Interment was in the Kiron Cemetery, Kiron, Iowa.

Minnie (Nelsen) Bauer (1897 - 1986)

Minnie Anna Bauer was born on Oct. 31, 1897 in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Lars and Mary Jensen Nelsen. She died Sept. 3, 1986 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 88 years, ten months and four days.

Minnie spent her early years on a farm near Harlan and received her early child hood education in rural schools near Harlan. In 1908 she and her family moved to Neligh, Neb, where she furthered her education. She worked in homes in Neb. as a homemaker.

In 1913 she moved back to Iowa and was united in marriage to John Bauer on March 14, 1917 in Denison. After marriage they settled on a farm near Buck Grove and lived their until they retired and moved to Denison in 1963. In 1975 her husband John died. In 1983 she went to Eventide Lutheran Home where she lived until the time of her death. She made many quilts and lap-robes for her family. She was a member of Zion Lutheran church of Denison for many years.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Minnie was preceded in death by one son Raymond, two brothers Louie and Chris Nelsen and one infant sister.

Survivors include her daughter Ardell Voss of Denison; two grandchildren, Carol Walde and her husband Roger of Denison; Larry Voss and his wife Kay of Denison; seven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; one sister Marie Jannsen of Canon City, Colo.

Funeral services were held Sept. 6, at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Kurt Kaiser officiated at the services. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist with Henry Henningsen as the soloist. Serving as pallbearers were Walter Denker, Raymond Hansen, Rudy Hollander, Lawrence Johnson, Vernon Neumann, William, Sonnichsen and Edward Wigg. Minnie (Meggars) Pirwitz (1909 - 1986)

Minnie Adeline Pirwitz as born on May 2, 1909 in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa the daughter of John and Ida Zage Meggars. She died, Monday evening, March 31, 1986 at the St. Luke's Medical Center in Sioux City, at the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 29 days.

Minnie spent her childhood years on her family's farm in Hanover Township. She was baptized as a child in June of 1909 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Hanover Township. She was confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

On February 22, 1931 Minnie was united in marriage to Louis Fredrick Pirwitz at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Together they made their first home on a farm south of Charter Oak in Willow Township. They later lived on farms in Otter Creek Township and Hanover Township. Louis died March 19, 1955. Minnie made her home in Charter Oak following Louis' death.

Minnie was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, a past member of St. John's Ladies Aid, and was known in the Charter Oak community for her help with taking care of elderly residents.

In addition to her parents and husband, Minnie was preceded in death by two children during infancy, her brother Pete, and her sister Hilda.

Survivors include her son Darlo and wife Marilyn of Charter Oak, twin granddaughters, Karen and Kay and her grandson Dennis. She is further survived by her brother John Meggars and his wife Elnora of Charter Oak, and two sisters, Rosie Meggars of Dunlap, and Adela DeMey of Denison, as well as a host of other relatives an friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 3, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Interment was in the St. John's Cemetery. The Rev. L.C. Gebhardt officiated at the services and graveside rites. The St. John's Ladies' Choir with Mrs. Paul Clausen as organist provided music for the services. Hymns for the services included "How Great Thou Art" and" Abide With Me". Serving as pallbearers for the services were Arlo Schoenfeld, LeRoy Nemitz, Alfred Hagemann, Herman Rosburg, Bob Kroll, and Henry Glockgether. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Charter Oak.

Minnie (Boger) Peters (1898 - 1974)

Minnie Frieda Peters, daughter of Ferdinand and Louise Wolff Boger was born March 7 ,1898 and died November 15, 1974 at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 76.

Mrs. Peters was born in Buck Grove, Iowa, and raised on a farm in Crawford County. She attended rural schools and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.

On September 17, 1919, she was united in marriage to Edmund Peters of Denison, where they made their home. Mr. Peters died February 11, 1968. One son, Harold was born to this union.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, Henry and one sister, Augusta.

Survivors include her son, Harold of Palatine, Ill., two grandsons, Wayne and Richard, one great granddaughter, four sisters, Mrs. Lena Ehlert of Stanhope, Iowa, Amanda (Mrs. Peter Jensen) of Denison, Selma (Mrs. Harold Lafrantz) of Schleswig, and Mrs. Frieda Costello of Storm Lake; four brothers, William of Odebolt, Ben and Ferdinand, both of Ida Grove, and Carl of Galva, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 18, 1974 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with Reverend Robert Maschke officiating. Pallbearers were DaWayne Boger, Floyd Boger, William R. Boger, Loren Ehlert, Donald Lafrantz and Wayne Peters. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Garden, with Huebner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
