Carlin L. Winey (1932 - 2006)

Carlin L. Winey was born on the farm at Deloit, Iowa, October 11, 1932, the son of Louis Arthur and Ruth Jordan Winey. He was raised on the farm, receiving his education in the rural schools and Deloit High School.

During the Korean War, from June of 1953, until May of 1955, Carlin served his country in the United States Army. Following his discharge he returned to Deloit.

On January 1, 1956, Carlin was united in marriage with Marian Starek at the United Presbyterian Church in Vail, Iowa. Their union was blessed with two children, Diana and Louis. They made their home in Denison for two years before moving to Vail where he had since resided.

During his working career, Carlin was employed at Retman's Standard Station in Denison, a tank wagon delivery driver for Farm Bureau and the Co-op, and, before retiring in 1981 due to heart disease, was custodian at the Ar-We-Va Elementary School in Vail and a bus driver for twenty-one years.

Following his retirement they continued to reside in Vail, where Carlin enjoyed working on cars and campers, tinkering with anything that needed fixed and raising watermelons in his garden. He enjoyed being around people and will be remembered for his playful teasing. He and Marian enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed taking their granddaughters to Disney World. Carlin and Marian had the privilege of celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary this past New Year's Day. He attended the Vail Presbyterian Church, was a member of the American Legion Post 65, Vail, Iowa, and the Vail Community Club.

Carlin died Monday, February 20, 2006, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home workshop in Vail. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 73 years, 4 months and 9 days.

Including his parents, Louis and Ruth Winey, Carlin was preceded in death by his daughter, Diana Winey; March 4, 1996 and two sisters, Ardath Cose and Sharon Stehr.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Marian Winey of Vail; one son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Dawn Winey of Vail; two granddaughters, Nicole and Rachel Winey of Vail; one brother, Stuart Winey of Battle Creek, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside memorial services and inurnment were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2006, at the Deloit Cemetery, Deloit, Iowa, with the Rev. Brian K. Rihner officiating. Music for the service included recordings of "Precious Memories" and "The Lord's Prayer. Military Honors were provided by American Legion Post 65, Vail, Iowa, and American Legion Post 196, Westside, Iowa. Following the service the family invited all in attendance to join them at the United Presbyterian Church in Vail, Iowa, for a luncheon prepared and served by the United Presbyterian Women. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Keith A. Segebart (1959 - 1988)

Keith A. Segebart, the , son of George and Viola Neubauer Segebart, was born in Denison, la., on June 23, 1959, and died at the Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, on Oct. 23, 1988, at the age of 29 years.

Keith grew to manhood in the Deloit, area, attending the Deloit school and graduating from the Denison Community High School with the class of 1978. During his schooling he worked part time as a janitor in the Kiron and Denison schools. In May of 1979, he obtained employment with Farmland Foods in Denison, where he was employed at the time of his death.

On Jan. 23, 1982, Keith and Angela Foster of Denison were united in marriage in Denison. They made their home in Denison until moving to Harlan. Keith was a member of the Pioneer Southern Baptist Church in Denison where he was a Sunday School Teacher and enjoyed working with the young children. He also enjoyed working with wood and was an avid flower gardener.

Keith was preceded in death by his father, George; and a sister, Bernice, as a small child.

Survivors include his wife Angela of Harlan: one step-daughter, Sarah A. Foster at home; his mother, Viola Segebart of Deloit; brothers: Ervin Segebart and his wife, Voncille of Winton, Calif., Glenn Segebart and his wife, Marcella of Ida Grove, and Roger Segebart and his wife, Connie of Independence, Mo.; three sisters: Alyce Mae and her husband, George Berndt of Denison; Joyce and her husband, Larry Wiegel of Charter Oak, and Elaine and her husband Rodney Bessett of Appleton, Wis. Also surviving are his parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Foster of Dunlap.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Pastor Don Slatton officiated at the services. Interment was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Susan Slatton was organist and soloist. Solo selection was "Day By Day" and the musical selection was "The Old Rugged Cross." Serving as pallbearers were Mike Burg, John Kelly, Larry Wiegel, Dennis Segebart, Rodney Bassett and Joe Fong. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Roland Eugene Roecker (1937 - 1989)

Roland Eugene (Sam) Roecker, the son of Francis E and Lavina Stoltz Roecker, was born on October 23, 1937 in Manilla, Iowa. He died suddenly, Wednesday, June 14, 1989 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse, Nebraska at the age of 51.

On December 12, 1970, Roland was united in marriage to Theda Manning. This union was blessed with four children.

Roland served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force entering in 1955 and serving in Korea during the Korean War. After retiring he made his home in LaPlatte, Nebraska before moving to Otoe, Nebraska in May of 1976. He was a heavy equipment operator for Zieger Construction Co., in Syracuse, Nebraska, a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Otoe, Nebraska and a member of Mid-Otoe County VFW, Post #5547.

Preceding Roland in death was one daughter, Shery Lynn Roecker. He is survived by his Wife, Theda; three sons, Brian of Louisville, Nebraska, Francis and Chester of Otoe, Nebraska. Also surviving are his mother, Lavina Roecker of Schleswig; four brothers, Donald and Norbert of Denison, Marvin of Phoenix, Arizona, and Kenneth of Schleswig; three sisters, Edna Schrader of Westside, Iowa, Norma Rowedder of Schleswig and Charla Knapp of Plattsmouth, Nebraska and one granddaughter, Nellie.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 17, 1989 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Otoe, Nebraska with the Rev. Jacqueline Linden-Schade officiating. Interment was in the Otoe Cemetery. Organist was Karen Kuenning. Congregational singing was led by Jeanette Kastens with songs, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Jerusalem, My Happy Home." Pallbearers were Dick Steinhoff, Bill Farmer, Howard Hutchinson, Ron Zeiger, Don Allen, Paul Wilkinson, Sr. Military rites were given by Mid-Otoe County VFW Post #5547. Arrangements were under the Fusseiman-Roby-Wymore Funeral Home in Syracuse, Nebraska.

Roxanne Rose (Kohles) Crabtree (1956 - 2003)

Roxanne Rose (Kohles) Crabtree, age 46, passed on to her heavenly Father on October 15, 2003 from her Grand Junction, Colorado home, following a gallant two-year battle with a Gliobastoma Multiforme brain tumor.

Roxanne was born on November 27, 1956 in Denison, Iowa to Mel and Eunice (Neubauer) Kohles. She spent her early childhood days on the farm northwest of Schleswig, Iowa. In 1963 she moved with her family to Anaheim, California and to Grand Junction in 1968. She was a 1975 graduate of Grand Junction High School and married Dan Crabtree in 1978. Together they raised two wonderful children and were a living example of marriage, love, family, faith, trust, compassion, respect and commitment.

Roxanne was a very patient, gentle, "self-less" person. The feelings and needs of everyone came before hers. She loved to be with children and enjoyed working as an instructional reading assistant with her "Chat-field Family". Roxanne loved camping, hiking, boating and everything else the outdoors had to offer. She liked to create "crafts" for other people to enjoy and was also an avid scrapbooker. She had a great appreciation for the small gifts from God, which others typically take for granted.

She leaves behind her husband, Dan of Grand Junction; daughter, Kara (Aaron) Hicken of Littleton; son, Ryan and his fiance Lisa Smith of Grand Junction; parents Mel and Eunice Kohles, and brother, Brian (Deniese) Kohles, all of Grand Junction; two sisters, Denise (Paul) Dickman of Phoenix, Arizona and Jan Kohles, of Grand Junction; and nine nieces and nephews who will all greatly miss her.

A memorial celebration was held Saturday, October 25, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Community Church in Clifton, Colorado.

Shirley M. (Evans) Bond (1943 - 1997)

Shirley M. Evans was born June 20, 1943, the daughter of Glen and Lydia Christman Evens (sic). She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Saturday, May 3, 1997 at the age of fifty-three.

Shirley was born in Ida Grove and received her education in the Schleswig Community Schools graduating from high school there in 1961. After completing her education, she was employed by the Peters Drug Store for nearly a year.

In July of 1962, Shirley was united in marriage to Ronald Bond in Ida Grove, Iowa, The couple settled in Schleswig and began their family of four children. In the late 60's, the family moved to eastern Iowa where they remained until the early 80's when they moved to Michigan. In July of 1996, Shirley moved to Dow City where she could be close to her family and live with her sister Millie Malone.

In her leisure time, Shirley enjoyed her children and grandchildren, she played the piano and wrote columns for taxidermy periodicals and ethnic journals namely periodicals concerning middle eastern music and dance in which she made her dance costumes herself and from her own designs. Additionally, she enjoyed animals and cared for her cat Kelli and a pet squirrel, Alvin. She also enjoyed collecting brass ornaments and was involved in various self taught computer skills.

She was self employed in an exotic rug making business and was involved with crafting rugs for various professional hunters around the country. Her credits include zebra, bear and lion skin rugs and won a blue ribbon for one of her bear skin rugs.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, in 198; one infant daughter; four brothers, Bob Evans, Virgil, Richard and Norman Wehner.

Survivors include her mother, Lydia, Mrs. Glen Evans; one daughter, Lisa Bond and her husband, Dan Bresien of Elkhart, Indiana and three sons, Bill Bond and his wife, Leanna of Union, Michigan, John Bond also of Union and James Bond and his wife, Kelly of Elkhart, eight grandchildren two brothers, Don Evans and his wife, Mania of Petersburg, Virginia Jerry Miller and his wife, Mildred of Odebolt, Iowa three sisters, Marie Bilsten and her husband, Max of Denison; Ina Knop and her husband, Julius of Denison; and Millie Malone of Dow City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 6, 1997 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Gordon Hoyt officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for vocalists Ruble Kastner and Paul Bilsten singing "Precious Lord Take My Hand", "In the Garden" and "Tears in Heaven". Honorary Pallbearers were Natasha Bond, Nicholas Bond, Autumn Bond, Timothy Bond, Jake Bond, John Bond, Tyler Bond and Josh Bond. Pallbearers were: Eugene Friedrichsen, Dave Van Arsdol, Glenn Malone, Mike Wehner, David Bilsten and Paul Bilsten. A Monday Prayer Service was held at 7 P.M., Monday, May 5,1997 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Women's Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Stanley Eugene Truitt (1947 - 2000)

Stanley Eugene Truitt was born July 10,1947, the son of Walter and Elizabeth Eggers Truitt. He died Saturday, July 8, 2000 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of fifty-two.

Stanley was born in Denison, Iowa and received his education in the Dow City Community School, where he was active in football and the Dow City Dazzlers 4-H Club. After completing his education, he entered the United States Navy in 1966, serving his country in Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Galveston as a boatswain mate. Stanley received his honorable discharge in 1970 and returned to the Dow City area.

On May 31, 1977, Stanley was united in marriage to Vicki Steinkuehler in Yankton, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Dow City and were blessed with the birth of three children, Brian, Stacey and Katie. Stanley was employed at I.B.P. in Denison for ten years and later for Farmland Foods for the past twenty-seven years.

Stanley is a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Dow City and the Dow City American Legion Post No. 444. He enjoyed farming and raising animals. Stanley also enjoyed spending time with his family and helping his children with their 4-H projects, playing with his grandchildren, cooking and gardening. In his leisure time, Stanley loved fishing and golfing.

Stanley was preceded in death by his grandparents, Cecil and Pearl Truitt and Arthur and Elizabeth Eggers and one grandchild. Survivors include one son, Brian and his fiance, Wendy Schneider of Denison; two daughters, Katie Truitt and her fiance, Wes Cunningham of Dow City; Stacey Truitt of Denison; and the children's mother, Vicki Truitt of Dow City; two grandchildren; her parents, Walt and Elizabeth Truitt of Dow City; three brothers, Ronald Truitt and his wife, Wilma of Woodbine; William Truitt and his wife, Hope of Dow City; Michael Truitt and his wife, Pam of Sara Sota, Florida; five sisters, Patricia Bailey and her husband, Paschal of Holliday, Texas; Kathleen Stapleton and her husband, Pat of Battle Creek; Beverly Stone and her husband, Scott of Gillette, Wyoming; Mary Perez and her husband, Hugo of Denton, Texas; Paula Buckholz and her husband, Mike of Linn Grove; many other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Dow City, Iowa. Fr. Richard Ball served as Celebrant of the Mass with interment at the Dow City Cemetery. EveVonne Muff provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Amanda Muff. A Scriptural Prayer Service was held at 7 P.M., Monday, July 10, 2000 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Honorary pallbearers were: Nicholas Walker, Unborn Grandchild, Stacey Truitt, Conner Truitt, Katie Truitt and Brian Truitt. Pallbearers were: Donnie Samuelson, Dave Steinkuehler, George Brandt, Robert Georgius, Don Kuhlmann, Raymond Crilly, Bill Ettleman, Duff Wood and Donald Truitt. Military honors were American Legion Post No. 444, Dow City, Iowa. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the Community Building, served by the St. Mary's Altar Society. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Vertus Fred John Groth (1935 - 2006)

Vertus Fred John Groth was born November 20,1935, the son of William C. And Louise Wulf Groth. He died Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, iowa at the age of seventy.

Vertus was born in Denison, Iowa and was baptized in Christ at Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church and was later confirmed there on March 25, 1951.

He received his elementary education in a rural school near his home. In 1954, Vertus entered the United States Army, serving one and one-half years in Okinawa, where he was a chauffeur for the General and Colonel. He was honorably discharged from service in 1956.

On November 17, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marlys Sander at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children. Throughout his life, Vertus worked for the Iowa State Highway Commission, the Farmers Elevator Mill, and the Farm Service Co-op in 1967, where he worked as a feed, salesman for over Thirty years, selling in Crawford, Carroll, Sac and various counties in the area. He was also employed by Comstock Sand & Gravel for nine years as a Caterpiller Operator.

Vertus semi-retired in the late 1990's, but still kept busy working as a courier for the Crawford County Memorial Hospital and Farm Service Coop in Denison. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison; the Hayes Township Schuetzen Verein; and a past member of the Crawford County Cattlemen's Association and the Crawford County Pork Producers. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 8 in Denison.

He enjoyed family gatherings and was a very proud father and grandfather. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed every minute he spent with them. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino's, camping and fishing in Okoboji and Lake View, and gardening. He enjoyed giving fresh tomatoes and sweet corn from his garden to many people during the summer, but his fondest pasttime was caring for his car. Cleaning it in and out and keeping the engine compartment spotless and the engine in perfect running condintion. Vertus was active at the Crawford County Fair for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kathy Sue in infancy; one brother, Milroy Groth; his father-in-law, William; two brothers-in-law: Arlo Jensen; and Darlo Pirwitz; and two sisters-in-law, Corrine Jahn and Donna Groth.

He is survived by his wife, Marlys; two sons: Keith of Denison, and Kevin and his wife, Ila of Cottonwood, Arizona; four grandchildren: Justin, Kayla and Jason of Cottonwood, Arizona; and Nicholas of Denison; one brother, Wilbert Groth and his wife, Lorraine of Denison; five sisters: Darlene Jensen of Schleswig; Irene Meiners and her husband, Herman of Denison; Marilyn Pirwitz of Charter Oak; Betty Meeves and her husband, Paul of Dun-lap; and Margaret Moeller and her husband, Erwin of Denison; one sister-in-law, Marlene Schneider and her husband Gene of Schleswig; his mother-in-law, Willetta Sander of Denison; one brother-in-law, Wayne Jahn of Manning; two sisters-in-law: Judi Brookbank and her husband, Marvin of Gillette, Wyoming; and Susan Siefken and her husband, Keith of Denison; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the services and grave side rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns "Battle Hymn of the Republic", "Just A Closer Walk with Thee" and "How Great Thou Art." Those serving as pallbearers were: Mike Brookbank, Randy Jensen, Ryan Siefken, Roger Groth, Rusty Siefken, Brent Meeves, Mike Meiners, and Jeff Jahn. Military Honors were provided by the American Legion Post 8 of Denison, Iowa. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Wayne Kuehnhold (1942 - 1996)

Wayne Kuehnhold was born November 8, 1942, the son of Adolph and Ella Jepsen Kuehnhold. He died at the Immanuel Lutheran Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska on Friday, February 2, 1996 at the age of fifty-three.

Wayne was born in Charter Oak, Iowa and began his education there. He was baptized on February 28, 1943 and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith on March 25, 1956. As a teenager he helped his family on the farm until they moved to Denison in the late fifties. After settling in Denison, Wayne continued his education in the Denison Community High School where he graduated with the class of 1961. After completing his education, Wayne was employed at Iowa Beef Processors until 1967 when he started the Denison Disposal Service.

Wayne was united in marriage to Gloria Jurgensen on September 25, 1970, in Yankton, South Dakota. The couple settled in Denison and were blessed with six children.

In addition to owning and operating the Denison Disposal Service, Wayne owned and managed several apartment complexes in Denison. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. Wayne was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather who worked hard to provide and care for his family. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and served the church as an usher.

He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Gloria of Denison; his parents-in-law, Merlin and Irene Jurgensen of Denison; three sons, Timothy at home, Dean of Denison, and Chris of Summertown, Tennessee; three daughters, Denise Slechta and her husband, Roger of Denison, Janeen at home and Daina of Des Moines, Iowa; five grandsons, two granddaughters, two step-grandsons; and three brothers, Vernon of Denison; Melvin and his wife, Mary of Oakland, Nebraska, Don and his wife, Joann of Denison, and one sister, Betty Fouts and her husband, Jerry of Dow City, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, February 5, 1996 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa with Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Vicar Andrew Carlson officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Henry Henningsen singing "Peace in the Valley" and "The Old Rugged Cross" and congregational hymn "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me". Honorary Pallbearers were: Freddie Dean Jepsen, Duane Beyerink, Terry Kuehnhold and Edwin Jepsen. Those serving as Pallbearers: Donnie Hollander, Pat Brosnahan, Robert Huisinga, Gerald Sharon, Daniel Haase, Glenn Lewis, Tom Doyel and Don Lutz. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them for lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Wilbert Henry Prussing (1931 - 2002)

Wilbert Henry Prussing was born on January 19, 1931, the son of Henry and Marie Kollbaum Prussing. He died Saturday, June 22, 2002 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of seventy-one years, five months and three days.

Wilbert was born on the same farm southwest of Schleswig, Iowa that his father was born on. He was baptized in Christ on March 1, 1931 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and later confirmed there on April 14, 1946. He received his education at the Morgan Township No. 7 School near Schleswig.

On September 14, 1951, Wilbert was united in marriage to Julia Faye Feddersen at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison, Iowa by Rev. Carl Schmidt. The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of seven children. In 1958 they had a farm sale due to Wilbert's health. For a short time Wilbert went to work for Herb's Mobile Service Station as a tank wagon driver. In 1959, they moved to Ricketts where Wilbert worked for Minert Jensen Trucking and later for Philip Rabe and Seils Trucking, making many trips to Chicago with livestock and bringing steel back from Indiana. In 1964, they moved to Charter Oak, where Wilbert worked for Vernon Leeper and Leonard Keating Trucking Firm. On July 14, 1965, Wilbert started working as a patrol operator for Crawford County, until his retirement on June 3,1993.

Wilbert was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. He was also a member of the Ricketts and Charter Oak Volunteer Firemen Department and received the Fireman of the Year Award in 1984. Wilbert was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family and his dog, Snuggles. He enjoyed camping, fishing, bird watching, sporting events, dancing and socializing with friends. The couple was honored to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in September of 2001.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Derek Robert Prussing, one great-granddaughter, Arionna Harris, his parents-in-law, Meinhard and Henny Feddersen, two brothers-in-law, Leonard Hagemann and James Waldemar, and one sister-in-law, Gloria Feddersen.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Faye of Charter Oak; two sons, Roger and his wife, Linda of Ida Grove; Douglas and his wife, Kelli of Denison; five daughters, Darla Neubauer of Charter Oak; Rhonda Lopez and her husband, Geno of Denison; Cathy Ray of Canyon City, Colorado; Cheryl Hardy and her husband, Dennis of Woodbine; Lana Jo Barnhouse and her husband, Steve of Denison; twenty-one grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one step-granddaughter; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Margaret Hagemann; Maxine Garrett and husband, Alan; John Feddersen, all of Denison; Betty Guy and husband, Merlin of Audubon; Elfrieda Waldemar of Carroll; Jenny Lambert of California; Hans Feddersen and wife, Mary of Ida Grove; Joleen Vincent and husband, Ron of Liberal, Kansas; Ronald Feddersen and wife, Barbara of Brighton, Colorado; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. L.C. Gebhardt officiated the services and grave side rites held at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Organist Art Beeck provided the organ accompaniment for soloist Ashley Fries as she sang "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound", and for congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art", and "Asleep in Jesus! Blessed Sheep". Those serving as honorary pallbearers were: Devin VandeMark, Brandon Hardy, Daniel Prussing, and Tyler Prussing. Those serving as pallbearers were: Scott Neubauer, Michael Sliefert, Jesse Hardy, Nathan Prussing, Hans Feddersen, and Gary Wellner. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.

Willis Walter Jaacks (1933 - 2005)

Willis Walter Jaacks, age 72, of Sigourney, died Thursday, November 17, 2005, at his home following a lengthy Illness.

Willis was born on September 27, 1933, on a farm northwest of Denison, Iowa, to Walter Herman and Jessie Dora (Moeller) Jaacks. He attended country schools and graduated from Denison High School in 1952. Willis then attended Iowa State College and the University of Colorado. He then worked for the Iowa Highway Commission for several years as an inspector on highway and bridge construction and also right-of-way calculations.

He then attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, graduating in 1958. Willis served his apprenticeship at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison and came to Reynolds Funeral Chapel in 1960 for a year. He then moved to Iowa City and worked at Oathout Funeral Home and went back to school at the University of Iowa.

He helped at Reynolds Funeral Chapel during most of 1964 after Mr. Reynolds had a second heart attack. Upon Mr. Reynolds death on November 11,1964, Willis purchased the Reynolds Funeral Cnapel on December 10, 1964 and moved back to Sigourney later that month. He owned and operated Reynolds Funeral Chapel until October 1, 1999, when he sold to Powell Funeral Homes.

On December 27, 1958, he married Joyce Nadine Wolford in Denison and they had three children: Jon Wesley, Jill Ann and Jay Walter. They were later divorced. On July 13, 1984, he married Mary Ann Damerval. Willis was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity and the Sigourney Lions Club and a former member of the Iowa Funeral Director's Association and the Sigourney Country Club. He enjoyed spending time at the pond, playing cards and traveling.

Survivors include his wife: Mary Ann of Sigourney; mother: Jessie Jaacks of Denison; two sons: Jon and wife Pat of Lincoln, Nebraska and Jay and wife Melissa of Portland, Oregon; one daughter: Jill Barnhart and husband Phil of Portland Oregon; two grandsons: Kyle and Eric Jaacks of Lincoln, Nebraska; two step children: Craig Damerval and wife Barbara of Win-field and Janet Lancial of Marion; four step grandchildren: Christian and Kaitlyn Damerval of Winfield and Braxton and Brittney Lancial of Marion; one sister: Jeanette Flagge and husband Tom of Fort Dodge and one nephew: Andrew Flagge of Fort Dodge. Also surviving are his mother-in-law: Arlene Martin of Sigourney; four brothers-in-law: Darrell Martin and wife Linda of San Antonio, Texas, Clair Martin and wife Jone of Ottumwa, Warren Martin of Sigourney and Wayne Martin and wife Maria of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one sister-in-law: Marjorie Lamb and husband Ron of Clive; several nieces and nephews and special extended family members: the James and Charlotte Deitrich family, the Russ and Jan Parcell family and the Jack and Midge Walker family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter, on January 20, 1996, and a brother, Louis George, in infancy on March 9, 1942.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 21, 2005, at the Sigourney United Methodist Church with Revs. John Hembry, Philip Ryan, Jim Bringman and Kate Stangl officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date. Visitation was held from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 20, 2005, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney.

David P. Schneider (1943 - 2004)

David P. Schneider, 60, died Saturday, February 7, 2004, at his home in Blair. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment was held in the Blair Cemetery.

David P. Schneider was born June 9, 1943, in Denison, Iowa, to Paul and Jeanetta (Truhlsen) Schneider. He graduated from Schleswig High School.

Mr. Schneider was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from July 1964 until July 1968. While he was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, he met Janice Duncan. They were married on May 6, 1967.

After living in Virginia for a few years, he decided he wanted to move back to the midwest to be closer to his family. After living in Omaha for a short time, the family moved to Blair in November of 1970.
On July 1, 1970, he began working as a mechanic at Sapp Brothers Ford, now known as Woodhouse Ford. He was a mechanic until his retirement in June 2003.

He enjoyed taking vacations with his family and being involved in family activities. He also enjoyed working with wood, making different items from his original drawings. He is remembered as a man who "never met a stranger," and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife Janice; two daughters and sons-in-law: Kim and Mark Corcoran of Papillion and Leslie and David Brown of Omaha; three grandchildren; mother and step-father, Jeanetta and Cyrenus Knief of Deloit, Iowa; four sisters and brothers-in-law: Durene and Frances Krohnke of Schleswig, Diane and Paul Nockels of Blair, Donna and Roy Osterlund of Carroll, and Debbie and Rick Rupiper of Crescent; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Dick and Nancy Schneider of Omaha and Danny Schneider of Carroll; two step brothers, Gayle Knief and wife Diane and Gary Knief; one step sister and her husband, Arla and Paul Woerth.

He is preceded in death by his father, Paul Max Schneider.

Casketbearers were Tim Nockels, Travis Osterlund, Alyn Schneider, Jeff Krohnke, Jeremy Schneider and Cole Rupiper.

Georgia Marie (North) Heckmann (1935 - 2002)

Georgia "Bibs" Marie North Heckmann was born at Denison, Iowa, August 18, 1935, the daughter of Lacey Craig and Mary Eleanor Slater North, Sr. She was baptized at the United Presbyterian Church in Vail. Bibs was raised on the family farm in East Boyer Township receiving her education in the Denison Public Schools being graduated from high school with the class of 1953.

On May 6, 1956, Georgia was united in marriage with Robert Heckmann and their union was blessed with one daughter, Cynthia Ann. They made their home on the farm where Bibs cared for her family and for ten years was employed at the Manilla Manor in Manilla. In her spare time she enjoyed riding horses.

Due to failing health Bibs moved to the Manilla Manor, October 1, 2001 and it was there her death occurred Monday, September 23, 2002. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 67 years, 1 month and 5 days. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison.

Including her parents, Georgia was preceded in death by two infant sisters, Carolyn Kay and Lillian Celinda North, her brother, Lacey Craig North, Jr., two brothers-in-law, Francis Rasmussen and Dr. Frank Brewster, II and one niece, Julie Lyons.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include her daughter, Cynthia Ann and husband, David Rickert of Ames, Iowa, two grandsons, Matthew and Jared Rickert of Ames, Iowa, four sisters, Marilyn Jean and husband, Albert Glienke of Aurelia, Iowa, Mary Jean Rasmussen and Gladys North both of Denison, Iowa and Frances Kay Brewster of San Antonio, Texas, nine nephews, five nieces, one aunt, Georgia Slater of Whiteing, Iowa, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 26, 2002, at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa with the Rev. Dr. Richard J. Shaffer, Jr. officiating. Music for the service included four congregational hymns, "Nearer My God To Thee", "Rock Of Ages, Cleft For Me", "How Great Thou Art" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Ann Voggesser served as organist. Honorary bearers were William Crane, Earl McCollough, Dick McCollough and Wayne McMinimee. Bearers included Garry Chapman, Gene Aikman, Dewey Reis, Lacey Glienke, Roger Rasmussen and Rick Rasmussen. Interment was at the Vail Cemetery, Vail, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Kevin Robert Remmes (1965 - 2007)

Kevin Robert Remmes was born April 30, 1965, the son of Robert and Esther Wellner Remmes. He died at his home in Sioux City, Iowa, Monday, July 16, 2007 at the age of forty-two.

Kevin was born in Denison, and grew up in Charter Oak, Iowa. He received his education in the Charter Oak-Ute community schools, graduating from the Charter Oak-Ute Community High School in 1983. He furthered his education at Iowa State University before returning to Charter Oak where he worked for Charter Oak Ag for several years.

In 1995, he moved to Sioux City and was employed at the Jolly Time Popcorn Company where he worked until health problems forced his retirement from there in 2005. In his leisure time, Kevin enjoyed golfing and watching football and other sporting events on TV.

He was a loving son and brother, always looking forward to spending time with his family, taking his mother on trips to other states to visit family and friends, and planning an upcoming cruise with them in the coming season. He was tremendously fond of and enjoyed visiting his sister, Lynn and her family, Steve and daughte, Aurelia all in Omaha.

Of his accomplishments, Kevin was proudest of his success in overcoming his substance abuse addiction, and being able to help others with the same illness. He had many friends with whom he gave and received support and comfort. He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Robert in 1990. Survivors include his mother, Esther of Charter Oak; one sister, Lynn Paup and her husband, Steve of Omaha, Nebraska and one niece, Aurelia also of Omaha.

Vernon Lawrence Carstensen (1932 - 1998)

Vernon Lawrence Carstensen was born December 9, 1932, the son of Raymond and Marie Berndt Carstensen. He died Saturday, November 14, 1998 at the Eventide Nursing Home in Denison at the age of sixty-five.

Vernon was born in Denison, Iowa and was baptized in Christ as an infant. He received his education in a rural school near his home. After completing his education, he farmed with his family until joining the United States Army in May 1953. He served in an artillery unit in Korea during the war and was decorated with a Korean Service Medal, a United Nations Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and a Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.

After receiving his honorable discharge in 1956, Vernon returned to Denison, where he began working in road construction for Booth and Olson Construction based in Sioux City, Iowa. After twenty years in road construction, Vernon began driving trucks which he continued doing until ill health forced him to retire.

Vernon was a member of the Denison American Legion and V.F.W. He enjoyed traveling and socializing with his family and friends in a game of cards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Delphine Braase and one brother, Raymond Carstensen Jr. Survivors include one sister, Norma Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one brother, Bob Carstensen and his wife, LeAnn of Estero, Florida; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 17, 1998, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Daniel Gifford officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound". Those serving as pallbearers and Military Honors were American Legion Post No. 8, Denison, Iowa. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Burton Charles Meeves (1932 - 1997)

Burton Charles Meeves was born October 31, 1932, the son of Charles W. and Alamita Burton Meeves. He died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa, Friday, December 19, 1997 at the age of sixty-five.

Burton was born in Boyer Township, near Dunlap, Iowa and received his education in the Charter Oak area. He enjoyed woodworking and music. He loved to listen to the St. Louis Cardinal's Baseball game on the radio.Burton made his home in Denison, Iowa and entered the Eventide Nursing Home in May of 1993.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one infant daughter, Genelle Jean and two sisters, Bonnie and Mary. Survivors include two sons, Ward Meeves and his wife, Cheryl of Yorba Linda California; Michael Meeves and his wife, Pam of Denison; two daughters, Christine Beaudry and her husband Lynn of Lost Nation, Iowa; Holly Meeves and friend, Todd Sternberg of Woodbine; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Viola Walde and her husband, Virgil of Denison; Betty Teut and her husband, Everett; Doris Schomer and her husband, Ted, all of Omaha; Audrey Hallaba and her husband, Dr. M. of Joplin, Missouri; and one brother, Bill Meeves and his wife, Sharon of Bennington, Nebraska.

Memorial services were held at 2 P.M., Monday, December 22, 1997 at the Huebner Funeral Home, Denison, Iowa. Rev. Chrisa Ferguson and Rev. Ken Ferguson officiated the service. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Kevin Robert Hagge (1960 - 1999)

Kevin Robert Hagge was born January 7, 1960, the son of Robert and Joyce Schiernbeck Hagge. He died at his home near Westside, Iowa, Monday, July 26, 1999 at the age of thirty-nine.

Kevin was born in Denison, Iowa and lived with his parents on a farm, near Westside, Iowa. He received his education at the Ar-We-Va Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1978. After completing his education, Kevin Managed a hog confinement in Woodbine and Cherokee.

He was married to Bev Aschinger in 1979 in Vail, Iowa. They made their home in Germantown, Iowa and were blessed with the birth of one son, Russell.

While living in Germantown, Kevin managed a hog confinement operation, before moving to Woodbine, where he continued managing a hog confinement for a short time. He then returned to Westside and worked with the Mason's of Westside Inc., constructing grain bins and helping on the farm.

On September 4, 1992, Kevin was united in marriage to Jane Rothe at the Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. The couple farmed in the Westside area and were blessed with two children, Hillary and Tanner. Kevin worked part-time at IBP in Denison, while working on the family farm and renting others.

Kevin was a member of the United Church in Westside and a bowling league. He was also a trustee for Hayes Township. He enjoyed bowling, basketball, baseball and football, especially the Minnesota Vikings. Kevin also enjoyed NASCAR racing and was recently able to attend a race in Texas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Hagge. Survivors include his wife, Jane of Westside; his children, Russell of Oregon; Hillary and Tanner, both of Westside; his father, Robert Hagge and his wife, Phyllis of Westside; two brothers, Michael Hagge and his wife, Rhonda of Carroll; Randy Hagge and his fiancee, Delia Osborne of Westside; one sister, Brenda Petersen and her husband, Ross of Vail; many other relatives and friends.

Marvin Bernard Roecker (1934 - 2000)

Marvin Bernard Roecker was born in Manilla, Iowa on February 22, 1934. He graduated in 1952 from Schleswig High School.

On September 20, 1980 Marvin was united in marriage to Linda Gibson in Denison, Iowa. He was a member of the Naval Reserves. Marvin also was a carpenter and construction worker for may years in the Denison area. In 1984, Linda and Marvin moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he worked for Evergreen Hardware until retiring in 1996.

Marvin died Tuesday, May 30, 2000 at the Thunderbird Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 66 years.

Marvin was preceded in death by his father, Frank Roecker, three brothers, Don, Norbert and Rolland and one son, Doug Roecker. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Roecker of 8731 West Earll Drive in Phoenix, Arizona; four daughters, Jessica and Jacilyn, still at home; Gwen Nano and her husband John of Omaha, Nebraska; and Patricia Peffer and her husband of [sic] Lynn of Chaska, Minnesota; one son, Bruce Roecker of Battle Creek; his mother, Lavina Roecker of Reed House in Denison; three sisters, Edna Schroeder and her husband Harold of Westside; Norma Rowedder and her husband Ivan of Schleswig and Charla Knapp and her husband Munn of Platsmouth, Nebraska; one brother, Kenny Roecker and his wife Diane of Schleswig; and three sisters-in-law, Joyce Roecker of Manning; Theda Roecker of Syracruse [sic], Nebraska; and Joan Hiles of Denison; and many other relatives and friends.

Cremation services were officiated by the Maryvale Mortuary in Phoenix, Arizona.

Kelly Allyn Frazier (1960 - 1997)

Kelly Allyn Frazier was born January 17, 1960, the daughter of Edwin and Bonnie Graham Frazier. She died Sunday, December 14, 1997 at the St. Luke's Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of thirty-seven.

Kelly was born in Sioux City, Iowa and moved with her parents to Japan, where she received her education, and also to New Mexico, where she graduated from the Alamogordo High School with the class of 1979.

After completing her education, she was employed in New Mexico for one year. In 1980, Kelly moved to Denison and was employed by Hardee's and Kum & Go. She moved to Austin, Texas in 1985, where she worked for the Austin Airport. Returning to Denison in 1991 and working at Wal-Mart, as one of their first employees.

Kelly was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. She was a very dependable and loving person who cared for others. She loved animals, riding horses and in her free time she enjoyed crafts and reading.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Bonnie and her grandparents. Survivors include her father, Edwin Frazier; three brothers, Edwin L. Frazier and his wife, Patty; David G. Frazier and his wife, Susan; and Thomas M. Frazier, all of Denison; also many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 1997 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Daniel Gifford officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Dunlap, Iowa. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace". Those serving as pallbearers were: Kenneth Dwyer, Larry Campbell, Harry Riesberg, Darrell Mitchell, Keith Duncan and Dave Janett. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. Shirly H. Wulf (1930 - 1989)

Shirly H. Wulf, the son of August and Katherine Broderson Wulf, was born on Jan. 27, 1930, at Schleswig, Ia., and died suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 15, 1989, at his home in Rensselaer, Ind., at the age of 59 years.

Shirly grew up in the Schleswig area, and attended the Schleswig School, graduating from the high school with the class of 1949. After his education, he moved to Beloit, Wis., where he was a Field Engineer for 32 years, retiring in 1984.

On June 27, 1975, he and Pauline Eaton were united in marriage in Rensselaer, Ind. They were making their home in Rensselaer at the time of his death. He was a member of the Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife, Pauline; three sons, Philip Wulf of Idaho, Thomas Wulf and Mark Wulf of Beloit, Wis., and four daughters. Kathleen, Mrs. Walter Prins, Valeria, Mrs. Richard Converse, Natalie Wulf and Kimberly, Mrs. Paul Siverhus, all of Beloit, Wis.; eight grandchildren; and one sister, Louwonn, Mrs. Wayne Kuhlmann of Ricketts.

Funeral services were held at the Steinke Funeral home in Rensselaer, Ind., at 10 a.m., Wednesday, with Reverand Michael Scholz officiating. Graveside rites were held at 10 a.m., Friday, at the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig, Ia., with Rev. Robert Hines officiating.

Connie Marie (Launderville) Rusch (1952 - 2002)

Connie Marie Rusch was born March 13, 1952, the daughter of James and Ruby Book Launderville. She died September 23, 2002, at her home in Schleswig, Iowa at the age of fifty years.

Connie was born in Carroll, Iowa and was baptized and confirmed at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail, Iowa and received her elementary education at St. Ann's Catholic School in Vail. She attended Ar-We-Va High School, graduating with the class of 1970. After graduation, Connie began working for Claudia in the old hospital in Denison as a Nurses Assistant. She then worked at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, where she met her husband, Roger.

On November 4, 1972, she was united in marriage to Roger Rusch at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. The couple was blessed with the birth of two daughters. After their marriage, Connie worked as a janitor for the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, and at the Morningside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ida Grove as a Nurses Assistant.

She was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. In her spare time, Connie enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Her life was touched this summer by helping rescue two teenage girls from a burning car near their farm. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jim; her father-in-law, Edwin; two brothers: Clarence and George; one sister, Elizabeth; and one niece, Melissa.

She is survived by her husband, Roger; two daughters: Janet Whiteing and her husband Charles of Sheldahl, Iowa; and Jamie Rusch and her special friend, Aric Aasgaard of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one grandson, Andrew Whiteing of Sheldahl, Iowa; her mother, Ruby Lorenzen of Odebolt, Iowa; one brother, Kenny Launderville of Fairbanks, Alaska; four sisters: Ruth Wulf and her husband, Gary of Kiron, Iowa; Marjorie Henrich and her husband, Jack of Odebolt; Mary Sorensen; and her husband, Roger "Pete", of Odebolt; and Ann Knudsen and her husband, Mark of Ida Grove, Iowa; her mother-in-law, Gladys Rusch of Schleswig, Iowa; nine nieces and nephews: Keith and Kyle Wulf; Justin, Jay, Jacob and Jonathan Henrich; Mitch Sorensen; and Miranda and Mary Knudsen; other relatives and friends.

Karen Rae Baker (1942 - 2004)

Karen Rae Baker was born December 9, 1942, daughter of Raymond and Goldie Bliesman Baker. She died Sunday, April 11, 2004 at her home near Kiron, Iowa, at the age of sixty-one.

Karen was born in Ida County and was baptized January 10, 1043 at St. John's Lutheran church, Kiron and later confirmed there on March 23, 1956. She received her education at the Kiron Community School and was awarded her GED in May of 2003.

Karen worked for twenty-five years, at Roy Huddle's Resort in Whipholt, Minnesota until 1999. Off season, she returned to Kiron where she worked at the Food Palace and enjoyed babysitting jobs with the children in the neighborhood. Karen was a devoted daughter who cared for her parents and her nephew, Shaun. She also loved caring for her great-nephew and niece, Ty and Madison. In her leisure time, she enjoyed recording fond memories in her diaries and special times socializing with her family and friends. Karen was a member of St. John's Lutheran church in Kiron, the Altar Guild and their Ladies Aid.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Goldie in 2003 and her grandparents. She is survived by her father, Raymond Baker, one brother, Roger Baker and his wife, Karen; one nephew, Shaun Baker and his wife, Jen; one great-nephew and two great-nieces, Ty, Madison and Taylor, all of Kiron; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2004 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Kiron, Iowa. Vicar Mark Hansen officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Stockholm Township in Kiron, Iowa. Lois Gronau provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns, "Children of the Heavenly Father", "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Marilyn M. Steffen (1946 - 1994)

Marilyn M. Steffen was born February 4, 1946, the daughter of Earl and Leona Wiegel Steffen. She died at the Clarksen Hospital in Omaha Neb. on May 5, 1994 at the age of forty-eight years.

Marilyn was born on a farm south of Charter Oak, Iowa and was baptized in Christ as an infant. She began her education in rural school near her home and continued her education at the Charter Oak-Community School in Charter Oak where she graduated with the class of 1964.

After completing her education, Marilyn was employed at the Dubuque Packing plant in Denison where she remained employed for several years. In 1982 she opened a successful restaurant in Denison, with her sister, that served the community until 1992.

In her leisure time, Marilyn enjoyed various crafts, sewing, baking, and cooking. She was a loving and caring person who enjoyed working with her brother and sister.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother in 1983 and her father in 1989, and one sister, Charlene in 1945. Survivors include her brother Roger and his fiance Judy Meiners of Denison; one sister, Susan Steffen of Denison; and one niece, Melanie Steffin [sic].

Grave side services were held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, May 9, 1994 at the Charter Oak Cemetery in Charter Oak, Iowa with Rev. Al Wagner officiating. A Prayer Service was held at 7:30 P.M., Sunday, May 8, 1994 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Marcia (Ernst) Laumbach (1957 - 2000)

Marcia Laumbach, age 43 of Battle Creek, died Saturday, April 29 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove. Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, Iowa, with Rev. Benjamin Ray officiating. Burial followed at Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig. Visitation was held on Tuesday at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Battle Creek, Iowa.

Born February 14, 1957, in Denison, Iowa, Marcia was the daughter of Milroy and Anna (Thomsen) Ernst. She was baptized and confirmed at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, and graduated from Schleswig High School in 1975.

On November 10, 1976, Marcia married Douglas Laumbach in Monette, Missouri. The couple lived for a time in Monette, then returned to Schleswig. In 1978, they made their home in Battle Creek.

Marcia was employed as a cashier for Cronk's Restaurant in Denison, and later worked at Battle Creek Elementary School and Willow Dale Nursing Home. She enjoyed shopping, flea markets, sewing, crafting, plants and flowers, and playing cards. Marcia will be remembered as a good wife and mother, and as a caring and loving sister.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Douglas; a son, Christopher, and a daughter, Charissa, both of Battle Creek; two sisters and their husband [sic], Kandra and James Neumann of Kiron, and Rhonda and James Steuk of Schleswig; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Wilma Jean Amelia (Jacobs) Brockman (1934 - 2004)

Wilma Jean Ameila [sic] nee Jacobs Brockman was born on the family farm in Morgan Township, Crawford County, January 13, 1934 to Albert and Veronika nee Hansen Jacobs. She died Sunday, August 8, 2004 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of seventy.

Wilma was baptized as an infant in the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church at Schleswig, Iowa. She attended Morgan No. 4 School near her home, until it was closed and then attended the Schleswig Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1952. She was confirmed as a young lady in Friedens Church, where she sang in the Junior and Senior Choir for five years. After completing her education, Wilma worked as a nurse's aide at the Crawford County Hospital for two years.

On June 20, 1954, Wilma was united in marriage to William Brockman. They were blessed with the birth of two sons, Kim and Terry. The couple were honored to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary this past June. While caring for her family, Wilma was able to help teach Vacation Bible School for several years.

Wilma was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, where she served on the Spiritual Life Committee. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, whose first concern was her family's well-being. Wilma was very fond of her flower garden and loved cooking and baking for her family and friends.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Gloria Jacobs and Sharon Chapman and one brother, Freddie Jacobs. Survivors include her husband, Bill Brockman of Schleswig; two sons, Kim Brockman of Schleswig; Terry Brockman and his wife, Lori of Denison; two grandchildren, Brad and Tara Brockman; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Chris Burtnett officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Wendy Bumann provided the organ accompaniment for Rubie Kastner as she sang "What A Friend We Have in Jesus". The congregational hymns were "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But A Stranger Here". Those serving as pallbearers were: LaWayne Hinrichsen, Robert Andersen, Kenneth Streck, Richard Dorale, Bud Obrecht and Larry Grill. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Women's Guild. A. Irene (Bosse) Krueger (1934 - 2003)

Irene Krueger, age 69, of Battle Creek, Iowa, died unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, May 11, 2003. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2003, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Rod Dunker will officiate the service, with burial to follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Battle Creek. Friends may call Wednesday at the church from 4-8 p.m., with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m.

A. Irene Krueger was born April 3, 1934, in Schleswig, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Eleanor (Johannes) Bosse. She grew up in Schleswig, graduating from Schleswig High School in 1951, then attended business college. Irene worked as bookkeeper at the Schleswig lumberyard. On February 20, 1969, she married James Krueger at Tekamah, Nebraska. The couple settled in Battle Creek, where Irene worked as bookkeeper for area businesses. Most recently, she was employed as bookkeeper for Hayes Oil Company.

A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Irene taught Sunday school for many years, directed the children's Christmas programs, and served as President of the Ladies Aid. She was a talented lady who enjoyed garage "sale-ing," gardening, bird feeding, flowers, cooking, sewing, crocheting, and crafts.

Survivors include her husband, Jim; four children and their spouses, Gwendolyn and John Nano of Omaha, NE, Bruce and Michelle Roecker of Battle Creek, Patricia and Lynn Peffer of Chaska, MN, and Katherine and Todd Cleveland of Oto; four grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Porter and her husband John of California, and Barbara Schmidt of Texas; and a brother and his wife, Al and Connie Bosse of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Douglas Roecker.

Glorianna Adela (Dorfler) Garrett (1931 - 2004)

Glorianna Adela (Dorfler) Garrett was born on March 11, 1931, to Franklin and Adela (Schultz) Dorfler in Ricketts, Iowa. She was baptized at Hanover Lutheran Church of rural Charter Oak and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Gloria attended country school and graduated from Charter Oak High School in 1949. She then went to Buena Vista College for two years to become a teacher. She taught for one year at Lake View, Iowa.

On September 20, 1953, she married Beryl Garrett at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City. The couple lived in Charter Oak for a few years and then moved to Dow City and in 1964 the couple moved to Dunlap. Gloria was a teacher at the Dow City school and also the Dunlap school. After her retirement, Gloria continued to be a substitute teacher and the couple worked at Yellowstone National Park for five summers.

Gloria was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church; Care Center Auxiliary, where she held the office of treasurer; and the Crawford County Retired Teachers Association. She loved to crochet and knit baby afghans and then take these blankets to Children's Hospital. Family members also received Gloria's blankets when they got married or had babies. She also enjoyed the simple thngs in life, watch the sun set, and Sunday night dances.

Gloria died December 19, 2004, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa attaining the age of 73 years, nine months, and eight days.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Beryl; son Steve Garrett and his wife Deb of Charter Oak, Iowa; daughter Debbie Garrett and special friend Tim Oppold of Dunlap, Iowa; two grandchildren Alex and Melissa Garrett; sister Frances Rabe of Sioux City, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City, Iowa. Rev. Gordon Buchholz and Rev. Larry Lemke served as clergy. Sherry Ketelsen served as Musician for congregational hymns, "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God", "Angels We Have Heard On High" and "How Great Thou Art". Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Alex Garrett and Melissa Garrett. Pallbearers were John Dorfler, Randy Garrett, Brett Malone, Mark Garrett, Troy Garrett and Brad Schultz. Roger Terry Stockfleth (1947 - 1999)

Roger Terry Stockfleth was born November 14, 1947, the son of Elmer and Edna Gran Stockfleth. He died at his home in Schleswig, Saturday, July 3, 1999 at the age of fifty-one.

Roger was born in Sioux City, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on December 7, 1947 and confirmed on April 15, 1962 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. He grew up in the Schleswig area receiving his education in the Schleswig Community Schools. After completing his education in 1965, he remained in Schleswig where he worked for various employers in the area.

He was a kind man who was attentive to the needs of those he knew. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and was always ready to help those in the community who needed help. He was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. His devotion to his Lord and Savior are evidenced by his attendance in church and Bible classes.

Survivors include his brother Dale and his wife, Holly of Lenexa, Kansas, aunts and uncles, one niece, Heidi, and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 A.M., Friday, July 9, 1999 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Lee Mentink officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Roger Walter singing "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "How Great Thou Art" and congregational hymn "Oh, Bless the Lord, My Soul". Beverly Adams Rhodes (1937 - 2002)

Beverly Adams Rhodes, age 64, born December 3, 1937 in Denison, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Monday, February 11, 2002, in Fort Walton Beach.

Beverly was a devoted and active member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Shalimar and a member of the Ambassadors of the Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce, and a continuing student at the community college. She traveled the world extensively with friends.

Graduated the C.E. School of Commerce, Omaha, Nebraska, where she earned her secretarial degree, and was employed as a secretary at various Air Force Bases from 1956 until her retirement from Eglin Air Force Base in 1983.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Charles W. (Dusty) Rhodes, USAF, Ret. and by her parents, Albert and Marie Andresen Adams.

She is survived by her step-daughter, Carroll Risk and her husband Richard of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother Albert Adams, Jr. and wife Frieda of Denison, Iowa; sister Marilyn Petersen and husband Bernhard of Schleswig, Iowa; two grandchildren Amy Smith and husband Mike and Robert Risk and wife Tara; and a great-grandson Ethan Smith; nieces and nephews, Elain Gotto and husband Dan and their children, Justin, Jason and Joshua; Colleen Miller and husband Dave and their son Dustin; Cheryl Miller and husband Dan and their children Melayna and Damon; Roger Petersen and wife Shannon and their daughter Taylor; Bob Adams and children Nate and Ashley; Dave Adams and son Josie; and Barb Havlick and husband Mark; Aunt Irene and Uncle Rex Littleton; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2002 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Shalimar with Rev. Ray Angerman, Pastor, officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Beal Memorial Cemetery. Jerry Robert Hulsebus (1945 - 2003)

Jerry Robert Hulsebus was born November 6, 1945, the son of Gerald and Mary Miller Hulsebus. He died on Friday, March 7, 2003 at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of fifty-seven.

Jerry was born in Denison, Iowa. He was baptized into Christ on January 6, 1946 by Rev. C.W. Schmidt at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa and later confirmed in 1960 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove, Iowa. Jerry graduated from the Denison High School in 1963.

On September 16, 1969, Jerry was united in marriage to Beverly Carlson. Jerry entered the United States Army in October of 1965 coincidentally 20 years to the day that his father had entered the Armed Forces during WWII. Jerry served in Vietnam with the A troop 1st Squad 11th ACR. While in the service he learned mechanic skills and was honorably discharged on October 4, 1971 having received the rank of Sp 4. He was decorated with several medals and awards including a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietman [sic] Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Marksman and Expert Rifle.

After returning home from the service, Jerry worked for Harry Maxwell at the Maxwell Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Later he worked for implement dealers as a mechanic.

Jerry was a member of St. John's Luttheran Church in Buck Grove, where he served as an usher. in his earlier years he was a member of the Youngh People's Society. Jerry loved fishing, hunting and watching his favorite television show, "MASH".

Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Denison; his parents, Gerald and Mary Hulsebus of Denison; two brothers, Ernie of Denison; Terry of Harlan; and one sister, Janet Miller of Omaha; many other relatives and friends.

Private Family Grave Side Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City, Iowa. Rev. Gordon Buchholz officiated the service and grave side rites. Military Honors were the American Legion Post 444 Dow City. the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Edward Carl Lorenzen (1932 - 1999)

Edward Carl Lorenzen was born May 25, 1932, the son of Thomas and Wilhelmina Dersien Lorenzen. He died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, Tuesday, January 26, 1999 at the age of sixty-six.

Edward was born in Denison, Iowa and was baptized in Christ and later confirmed on March 30, 1947 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. He received his education in the Denison Community Schools and graduated from the Denison High School. After completing his education, he worked for Builders Lumber and Supply Company in Denison.

On September 12, 1951, Edward entered the United States Marine Corps and served in Korea with the 9th MCRRD. After completing his military duties on September 11, 1953, Edward returned to Denison, where he worked in construction and carpentry.

Edward was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa and the American Legion Post # 8. He enjoyed woodworking and building miniature log cabins which he donated to local organizations. Edward also enjoyed early western history and in his earlier years he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Esther and Irene. Survivors include one nephew, Thomas Furne and his wife, Marlene; one great-niece, Ashley Furne and one great-nephew, Ryan Furne, all of Omaha.

Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Friday, January 29, 1999 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Daniel Gifford officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "The Old Rugged Cross", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives". Military honors were American Legion Post No. 8, Denison, Iowa. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Margaret Ladwig, 74, of Ida Grove died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Ladwig was born Sept. 15, 1925, in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Josephine (Pelly) Crane. She was raised and educated in the Denison area.
She married Edward Ladwig on Oct. 13, 1943. The couple lived in Denison until 1950, when they moved to Ida Grove. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed playing bingo, fishing and her plants.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Dennis and his wife, JoLene of Ida Grove, Michael of Kansas City, Mo., Howard and his wife, Rose Ann of Ida Grove and Daniel and his wife, Kathy of Arthur, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Mary Jane and Bernard Lackman and Kathy and Rod Hinojosa, all of Ida Grove; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bill Crane, George Bral and Bobby in infancy; and three sisters, Shirley Hemminger, Pat Kruse and Phyllis Reis.

Eugene H. Foster (1921 - 1987)

Funeral services for Eugene Foster, 66, of Lake View were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ in Lake View, with the Reverend Kim Henning officiating. Foster died Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Manning General Hospital in Manning.

Interment was made in the Deloit Cemetery in Deloit, under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home of Lake View. Military graveside rites were conducted by Eilert Auen Post No. 133, American Legion, of Lake View. Organist Mrs. W. K. Hunter accompanied congregational singing. Floral arrangements were under the care of Mrs. Harland Wetzstein and Mrs. Lloyd Moody. Active attendants were Jack DeBourgh, Dennis Meyer, Marvin Blessington, Mark Auen, Lon Buse and Jeff Hunt.

Eugene Foster was born Jan. 2, 1921, in Morgan, Mo. He was the son of Emmor H. and Helen C. Carstensen Foster. An April 21, 1946, he was married to Nola B. Krueger at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kiron.

Mr. Foster was a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy. He was very active in the American Legion, and was a past commander of both local and county posts. He was employed as foreman of the City of Lake View maintenance crew for many years.

His survivors include his wife, Nola, of Lake View; three daughters: Carole (Mrs. Larry) Kuehl of Homer, Ill., Kay (Mrs. Raymond) Stark of Bloomfield, Neb., and Marla (Mrs. Marvin) Cates of Rockwell City; a son, E. Paul Foster of Rockwell City; nine grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Helen Foster of Denison; and two brothers, Earl Foster of Denison and Elmer Foster of Corvallis, Ore. He was preceded in death by his father.

Leola Mae (Skarin) Gress (1924 - 1986)

Leola Mae Gress was born on August 15, 1924 on a farm in Ida county, Iowa, the daughter of Carl Axel and Effie E. Mauritz Skarin. She died on Monday, November 3, 1986 at her home in Charter Oak at the age of 62 years, two months and nineteen days.

Leola spent her early years on a farm near Kiron where she was born. She graduated from the Kiron High School in the class of 1941.

On March 11, 1945 she married Arthur Gress in Dow City, Iowa. They settled in Charter Oak, Iowa where they made their home for 41 years. Leola was baptized and was a member of the Baptist Church in Kiron, Iowa. After marriage she joined the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak.

She was very active in community affairs always willing to offer a helping hand. She was a member of the Clubettes, Willow Modern Homemakers, the Charter Oak Commercial Club and the Methodist Ladies Aid. She was a very caring person and children were a special part of her life. She will be greatly missed by her family, relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Leola was preceded in death by two brothers; Bruce W. Skarin and Lamont B. Skarin.

Survivors include, her husband, Arthur, one sister, Elmira E. Paulson of Kingsley, Iowa, and other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 6, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak. Burial was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Reverend James Gubser officiated. Mrs. Dean Hunter served as organist with Mr. Art Beeck as soloist. Serving as pallbearers were; Robert Bohnker, Ronnie Goslar, Herbert F. Kuhlmann, Paul Kuhlmann Jr., Charles Staley and Robert Stoltze Sr. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Charter Oak, Iowa.

Mildred E. (Chrestensen) Stegemann (1925 - 2006)

Mildred E. Stegemann was born June 26, 1925, the daughter of Harold and Augusta Bohm Chrestensen. She died Saturday, May 27, 2006 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty. Mildred was born on a farm near Buck Grove and received her education in a rural school near her home.

On April 18, 1963, Mildred was united in marriage to Lee Stegemann in Denison, Iowa, where they made their home. After their marriage, Mildred worked at Jo-Mart Steak House as a cook and also helped Lee with his electrical and plumbing business. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She loved collecting porcelain dolls, going to the casinos and playing King's Corner.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vern Winsor, one brother, Junior LeRoy and one sister Marie. Survivors include her husband, Lee Stegemann of Denison; one step-son, Larry Stegemann and his wife, Connie of Burkburnett, Texas; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Marcella Reis of Denison; one sister-in-law, Ann Chrestensen of Rapid City, Illinois; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 2, 2006 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the services and grave side rites held at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. William Harry Korner (1925 - 1983)

William Harry Korner was born on May 22, 1925 at Schleswig, Iowa, the son of Harry and Dora Kuehl Korner. He died on July 18, 1983 at his home near Denison, at the age of 58.

William was raised around the Schleswig community. He attended the Schleswig Community Schools where he graduated from the Schleswig High School. While still an infant, William was baptized and later during the years of his education, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church. For several years prior to his marriage, he farmed with his father.

On January 5, 1949, William was united in marriage to Evelyn Lingren at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Together they made their first home on a farm near Schleswig. Later they farmed near Mapleton. In 1940, they moved to Odebolt where William was employed with Hansen Silo at Lake View. Prior to moving to Denison in 1980, William owned and operated a business in Kiron for four years.

William was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Denison, three daughters, Cindy, Mrs. Lynn Bluml of Denison, Becky, Mrs. Tim Ellinger of Loveland, Colorado and Vicki Korner of Lincoln, Nebraska. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Melissa and Jason Bluml and Tiffany and Tate Ellinger and one sister, Wilhelmina, Mrs. Edward Edsen of Ida Grove as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 21, 1983 at 10:30 AM at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. The Reverend Richard Nelson of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig officiated at the services. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist with Henry Henningsen as soloist. Hymns for the services were "In the Garden" and "The Lord's Prayer." Pallbearers were Merlyn Lingren, Richard Lingren, Dennis Lingren, James Spotts, Leon Edsen and Dale Edsen. Funeral services were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Orville Ommo Fred Hansen (1920 - 2004)

Orville Ommo Fred Hansen was born May 31, 1920, the son of Tony and Mary Janssen Hansen. He died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove at the age of eighty-four.

Orville was born on a farm near Schleswig, Iowa and received his education in a rural school in Grant Township. After completing his education, he helped on the family farm.

On September 12, 1944, Orville was united in marriage to Mary Irene Fitzpatrick at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig by Rev. A. F. Rinne. They settled on the family farm and were blessed with the birth of two sons. The couple moved to Schleswig in the early 1980's and continued to farm for a few years before retiring.

Orville was a member of the United Church of Christ, their Church Council and was involved in various activities in the church. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He was also a member of the Schleswig Enterprise, where he served as secretary treasurer. Orville travelled west to purchase calves for entry into the Schleswig Five Calf Show Project. He enjoyed Cyclone football games, fishing, and bowling, even being involved in a television tournament. Orville was a sharp-witted card player, especially loved cribbage and in his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Laverna Jensen and her husband, Walter, also brother-in-law, Michael Fitzpatrick. Survivors include his wife, Mary Irene Hansen of Schleswig; two sons, Jerry Hansen and his wife, Judy of Burnsville, Minnesota; Rick Hansen and his wife, Leslie of Seattle Washington; three grandsons, Chad, Justin and Kyle Hansen; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 18, 2004 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Chris Burtnett officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Wendy Bumann served as organist for congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But a Stranger Here" Those serving as pallbearers were: Bob Andresen, Dennis Huebner, Dale Jensen, Mark Janssen, Bill Aldag and Leon Clausen. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Women's Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charges of arrangements.

Elvera Marie (Schultz) Moeller (1921 - 2003)

Elvera Marie Moeller was born August 12, 1921, the daughter of Louis and Mary Huebner Schultz. She passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-one.

Elvera was born on a farm near Schleswig, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on September 18, 1921 and later confirmed on March 25, 1934 at ST. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. Elvera received her education at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Hanover Township.

On September 1, 1943, Elvera was united in marriage to George Moeller at Immanuel Lutheran Parsonage in Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of six children. Elvera was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig. She enjoyed playing cards and was also a member of various card clubs. She was a strong willed woman who as a loving mother cared for and supported her family. Elvera was actively involved in all aspects of the farm operation.

Elvera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George in 1971; one daughter, Connie; one son, Larry; five siblings, Esther Rabe and her husband, Walter; Ellen Nemitz and her husband, William; Arthur Schultz; Irene Miller and her husband, Herman; and Henrietta Schmadeke and her husband, August.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis Moeller and his wife Wanda, of Charter Oak; Louis Moeller and his wife Betty of Atkins, Iowa; Mark Moeller and his wife Shari of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; one daughter Carla Schmidt and her husband, Bob of Pierre, South Dakota; eleven grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Meleta Schultz of Schleswig; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 6, 2003 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Lee Mentink officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "I Know that My Redeemer Lives," "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Let Us Ever Walk With Jesus." Those serving as pallbearers were: Kathleen Moeller, Matthew Moeller, Allison Moeller, Nicole Moeller, Krista Schmidt, Anne Schmidt, Tyler Moeller, Jill Moeller and Lisa Moeller. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. LaMorn Roberta (Stegemann) Whitenack (1921 - 2005)

LaMorn Roberta Whitenack was born June 15, 1921, the daughter of Marcus and Edna Bielenberg Stegemann. She died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-four.

LaMorn was born in Schleswig, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ July 3, 1921 and later confirmed on April 5, 1936 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.

On November 11, 1939, LaMorn was united in marriage to Albert Whitenack at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The couple was blessed with the birth of eight children and were honored to celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary.

LaMorn sold Avon for twenty years and was in the Avon President's Club for many years. She loved traveling to see her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, canning and was an excellent cinnamon roll baker. In her spare time, LaMorn enjoyed crocheting, knitting, camping and music, especially polka. She also loved her poodles and going to coffee with her lady friends. LaMorn was an active life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and their Ladies Aid.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Albert; two sons, Howard and LeRoy, as young children; one granddaughter, Angela in infancy; one great-grandson, Dominick in infancy and one sister, Betty Malone.

Survivors include four daughters, Marcella Buchanan and her husband Tome of Windsor, Missouri; LaJune Pauley of Spirit Lake; Ruth Ann Carstensen and her husband, Chuck of Philip, South Dakota; Suzanne Grace Ibach of Denison; two sons, William Whitenack and his wife, Joy of Schleswig; Paul Whitenack and his wife, Erla of Denison; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Lee Stegemann and his wife, Mildred of Denison; Roy Stegemann of Nebraska; one sister, Mary Ann Fertig and her husband, Bernie of Wall Lake; and a sister-in-law, Janet Stegemann of Omaha; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2005 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Nearer, My God, to Thee," "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound." Those serving as pallbearers were: Paul Whitenack Jr., Randy Carstensen, Shane Whitenack, Bobby Whitenack, Heath Whitenack, Billy Whitenack, Chris Whitenack, Jacob Helkenn, Tim Pauley and Bill Bates. The family invited all I attendance at the service to join then in fellowship and lunch at the church, Served by the Ladies Aid. Lauretta V. ( DeMey) Malone (1922 - 2005)

Lauretta V. Malone was born June 22, 1922, the daughter of Henry and Adela Meggers DeMey. She died Monday, June 20, 2005 at the Midland Living Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of eighty-two. Lauretta was born in Battle Creek, Iowa and lived in Dow City, Iowa, where she was a long-time resident.

She was united in marriage, October 17, 1942 to Wayne Malone in Blair, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Dow City, where she owned and operated Lauretta's Bar and Grill.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dow City. She was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who had a great love for her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Lauretta enjoyed reading the Bible and her faith was very important to her, she also enjoyed reading poetry and cookbooks. She loved cooking and baking for bake sales, and was an excellent bread maker. In her leisure time, Lauretta enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting, making dolls and other crafts. She also enjoyed fishing at Okoboji and Branson with her husband and socializing in a game of cards and Bingo. Lauretta enjoyed math and in her later years she enjoyed the challenge of jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Throughout her life, Lauretta was generous with her love, compassionate in her actions, and kind with her words for all of her family and friends. The depth of her loss is far reaching and cannot be measured.

Lauretta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wayne in 1981, two brothers, Robert and Don DeMey and two sisters, Marcella Millard and Betty Patchin.

Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Fronsdahl and her husband, Bob of Dallas Center, Iowa; two sons, Kenneth Malone and Wayne Malone Jr., both of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ellen Brink and husband, Bill of Dow City; Sharon Cue and husband, Richard of Dunlap; Rosie Spreng of Dow City; and four brothers, Edward DeMey and wife Jean of Carroll; Jack DeMey and wife, Janice; Henry DeMey Jr. and wife, Donna and Delmore DeMey and wife, Pat, all of Denison; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 24, 2005 at the United Methodist Church in Dow City, Iowa. Rev. Judy Deweber officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Dow City Cemetery. Organist Jeanette Kuhlman provided the service music for soloist, Eve Vonne Muff singing "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset." Pallbearers were: Marty Feltner, Ken Christiansen, Tim Malone, Doug Carver, Dan Bauer and Don DeMey. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join then in fellowship and lunch at the Community Building, served by the Methodist Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Glen Allen Lochmiller (1923 - 2001)

Glen Allen Lochmiller was born January 17, 1923, the son of Gottlieb and Laura Marshall Lochmiller. He died Saturday, November 3, 2001 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of seventy-eight.

Glen was born on his parent's farm in East Boyer Township. He received his education in a rural school near his home and graduated from the eighth grade. After completing his education, Glen helped his father farm.

Glen met a young lady who was teaching grade school and renting a room from his parents and on December 22, 1946, Glen was united in marriage to Marjorie Lingle at the First United Methodist Church in Denison. The couple made their home on the farm and were blessed with the birth of three children, Neil, Joyce and Janet.

Glen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denison and the Farm Bureau. He loved growing soybeans and corn and was very proud of his shorthorn cattle. He retired from farming in the 1980's. Glen enjoyed gardening with his wife and taking vegetables to the Farmer's Market in Denison. He loved sports; his fondest memory was attending the World Series and seeing his favorite team, the Chicago Cubs play. He also enjoyed following the Denison Monarchs and Iowa State Cyclones baseball, football and basketball teams.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Neil in 1990. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of Denison; two daughters, Joyce Farrington and her husband, Norm of Council Bluffs; Janet Klaassen and her husband, Joel of Weston, Connecticut; and two step-grandchildren, Jodie Seitz of Des Moines and Andrew Farrington of St. Paul, Minnesota; two sisters, Anna Keating; Doris Hansen and her husband, John; one brother, Hubert Lochmiller, all of Denison; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at First United Methodist Church in Denison. Rev. Chrisa Ferguson officiated the services and grave side rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Nancy Miles provided the organ accompaniment for soloist Larry Boeck as he sang "On Eagle's Wings" and for congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art," and "In the Garden." Those serving as honorary pallbearers were: Wayne McMinemee, Donald Lochmiller, Charles Bandow, and Marvin Lackman. Those serving as pallbearers were Dennis Holdsworth, Mike McMinemee, Kevin Lingle, and Gary Preul. The family invited everyone in attendance to return to the church and join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Methodist Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
