Roy Edward Deiber (1931 - 1991)
Roy Edward Deiber was born March 4, 1931, the son of George and Florence Wiese Deiber. He died Sept. 7, 1991, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha, Neb., at the age of 60 years, 6 months and 2 days.Roy was born on the family farm near Buck Grove, Iowa and attended a rural school near his home. After completing his early education, he attended the Denison Community High School where he was graduated with the class of 1948. He continued his education at the collegiate level at the Colorado State College at Fort Collins, Colo., studying agriculture. After returning to Iowa, Roy farmed in Woodbine before returning to Denison.
On March 4, 1954, Roy and Virgie Adamson were united in marriage at the First United Methodist Church in Denison, and were blessed with the birth of two children. The couple settled on a farm near Denison where Roy continued farming and raising purebred Duroc livestock until his health forced his retirement in 1981.
Roy served as the Crawford County Fair Swine Superintendent for the past 10 years and also served as an extension service chairman of the Executive Board of the Iowa State Research Farm at Castana, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He was a devoted husband and loving father who worked hard to care for the needs of his family. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and traveling, and in recent years made trips to Europe in addition to the Eastern part of the United States.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and one sister. Survivors include his wife, Virgie of Denison; daughter, Kathie Jo Deiber of Berwyn, Ill., and son Blake J. of Denison; two sisters: Lorna Ann Petersen and her husband, Louis of Denison, and Shirley Jean Caldwell and her husband, Robert of Dow City.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with Pastor Kurt Kaiser and Pastor Philip E. Bloch officiating the service and grave side rites held in the Oakland Cemetery in Denison. The congregation sang "Rock of Ages," "My Hope is Built on Nothing Less," and "The Old Rugged Cross," with Karen Kahl serving as organ accompaniment. Pallbearers were Roger Rasmussen, Richard Rasmussen, Curtis Thompson, Jeff Poggensee, James Stender, Tony Bennett, David Nelson, Tim Hast, Troy Lohrmann, Jon R. Zenk, Gary Kliever, Mike Remmes, Kevin Andersen and Lyle Hanrahan. The family chose all friends in attendance at the service as honorary pallbearers. The Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Lyle Edward Kropf (1930 - 2006)
Lyle Edward Kropf was born June 3, 1930, the son of Edward and Frieda Nissen Kropf. He died Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Odebolt Nursing & Rehab Center in Odebolt, Iowa at the age of seventy-five. Lyle was born in Denison, Iowa and received his education in Stockholm No. 1, Boyer, Iowa and graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1948.On January 31, 1951, he was united in marriage to Blanche Schwaller. The couple was blessed with the birth of a son, Rickey. Lyle worked with road maintenance and construction for Crawford County and with various construction companies. He was also employed with Lindstrom Trucking in Kiron, after which he purchased his own truck and began hauling livestock for Boyens Trucking. He worked for Kiron Co-Op & Lumber, and also for Denison Homes building pick-up and pull campers. In July of 1992, he retired after twenty-one years of service with the Iowa Department of Transportation.
On February 2, 1968, he was united in marriage to Jean Gronau in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Kiron. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading fishing magazines and fishing on farm ponds and lakes in Iowa, Minnesota, and Branson, Missouri. He liked taking the seven Gronau nieces and nephews on camping weekends. He loved nature and enjoyed being outdoors. He was always willing to mow for several families and businesses in Kiron, and also mowed St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Stockholm Township, plus the church grounds in Kiron for several years. He was also known for feeding birds and squirrels. He was a very active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kiron.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Rodney as an infant; and his brother-in-law, Ralph Miller. He is survived by his wife, Jean of Kiron; his son, Rickey of Albert City, Iowa; one grandson, Tim Kropf of South Sioux City, Nebraska; and two great-grandchildren: Brandon and Rebecca Kropf of Blencoe, Iowa; his sister, Arlene Miller of Schleswig; two brothers-in-law: Jerry Gronau and his wife, Barbara of Odebolt; and Abe Gronau and his wife, Lynne of Schleswig; and one sister-in-law, Jane Gronau of Columbus, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 13, 2006 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kiron, Iowa. Rev. Mark Hansen officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Stockholm Township, Kiron. Nancy Bielenberg provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Jane Gronau singing, "Lord, Let Me Walk" and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness"; congregational hymn, "Children of the Heavenly Father" and recessional selection, "Lift High the Cross". Those serving as pallbearers were: Russell Westcott, Jack Neumann, Dave Hipnar, Terry Skarin, Vernon Lutz and Verlin Koch. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge arrangements.

Myra Sue (Bumann) McFarland (1958 - 2007)
Myra Sue McFarland was born August 8, 1958, the daughter of LeRoy and Delores (Lorie) Meseck Bumann. She died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa at the age of forty-eight.Myra was born in Ida Grove and was baptized in Christ September 21, 1958 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa and was confirmed there March 29, 1972. She received her education in the Schleswig schools, graduating with the class of 1976. Myra began working at Immanuel Lutheran Pre-School as a teacher. She was later employed at Schleswig Lanes as a waitress.
On May 13, 1978, Myra was united in marriage to Dennis McFarland at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. The couple made their home on a farm between Schleswig and Ida Grove and were blessed with the birth of two children.
She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter who always put her family first. She had strong faith in her Lord and Savior, which she shared with her family and friends. In addition to raising hogs with her husband, Myra worked as a waitress at Shorty's in Schleswig for several years. She also taught Sunday School at Immanuel and in her spare time, enjoyed cross-stitch, taking care of her home and baking, especially at Christmas time. She loved her cats and enjoyed visiting with people whenever she could. For the last two and one-half years, Myra enjoyed living at Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Pratt. She is survived by her husband, Dennis of Odebolt; two children, Mindi McKibben and her husband, Gerard of Correctionville, Iowa; and Patrick McFarland and his fiancée, Amy Chitwood of Omaha, Nebraska; one granddaughter, Emma McKibbin of Correctionville; her parents, LeRoy and Lorie Bumann of Schleswig; one sister; Becky Siepker and her husband, Mark of Omaha; four brothers-in-law, Richard McFarland of Mt. Vernon, Washington; David McFarland and his wife, Kim of Ramona, Oklahoma; Jeff Schoenfeld of Blue Grass, Iowa; and Horace Pratt of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law, Miriam McFarland and her special friend, Lyle of Odebolt; and Naomi Peterson; many special nieces, nephews, and cousins, other relatives and many, many friends.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the services and grave side rites held at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Organist Marlene Hight provided accompaniment for the congregational hymns "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound," "My Faith Looks Trustingly," and "Lift High the Cross." Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Jeff Siepker and Roy Johnson. Those serving as pallbearers were Marshall Hancock, Andy Siepker, Bret Siepker, Mike Chitwood, Mike Holland, and Al Niewig. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of the arrangements.

Norman D. Christensen (1940 - 1999)
Norman D. Christensen was born at Denison, Iowa, February 7, 1940, the son of Harry and Gertrude Rath Christensen. He was baptized into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison October 13, 1940 and confirmed in his Christian Faith there April 3, 1955. He was raised on the farm and received his early education in the rural schools before being graduated from the Denison High School with the Class of 1958. In his formative years he was an active member of 4-H and Future Farmers of America organizations. Following high school he farmed with his father.On June 4, 1961, Norman was united in marriage with Karen Kutschinski at St. John's Lutheran Church at Charter Oak, Iowa. Their union was blessed with two sons, Greg and Scot. They made their home at their present farm home south of Denison where Norman was engaged in farming all of his life. Farming was Norman's life and in his spare time he enjoyed cars and was an avid reader. His greatest pride and joy was his 15 month old grandson, James.
Norman died Friday evening, November 12, 1999 at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska from injuries suffered in a tractor accident at his farm home earlier that afternoon. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison, a Nishnabotna Township Trustee serving on their Cemetery Board, and a member of the Crawford County Cattleman Association. In earlier years he was a leader of the Eager Eagles 4-H Club.
Norman was preceded in death by his father, Harry Christensen and one son, Scot Christensen who died April 8, 1988.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife, Karen Christensen of rural Denison, one son, Greg Christensen and his wife Diane of Coralville, Iowa, one grandson, James, his mother, Gertrude Christensen of Denison, father and mother-in-law, Alvin and Dorothy Kutschinski of Charter Oak, Iowa, two sisters, Shirley and husband Ray Snider of Bois D'Arc, Missouri, and Marilyn and her husband, Pastor Ron Baker of Colorado Springs, Colorado, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Allen and Linda Nepper of Charter Oak, Iowa, nieces, uncles, aunts, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 16, 1999 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison with the Rev. David P. Loeschen officiating. Music for the service was provided by Cindy Kading and Jodi Stahl singing "There Is Joy Lord" and "My Life Is in You Lord." Congregational hymns included "What a Day That Will Be," "Great Is the Lord" and "How Majestic Is Your Name." Mary Kuhlmann served as pianist. Casket bearers were Byron Meeves, Leonard Ahrenholtz, Robert Lohrmann, Lyle Meseck, Tom Trotter and Paul Assman. Interment was at the Nishnabotna Cemetery at Manilla, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Marlowe Arland Schultz (1943 - 2006)
Marlowe Arland Schultz was born December 6, 1943, the son of Arthur and Meleta Miller Schultz. He died Thursday, December 7, 2006 in Schleswig, Iowa at the age of sixty-three.Marlowe was born in Battle Creek, Iowa and was baptized in Christ at his home December 21, 1943 by Rev. Wagner, and was confirmed March 30, 1958 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township by Rev. Leedahl. He received his education at St. Paul Lutheran School in Hanover Township, Morgan No. 7 country school, and the Schleswig High School, graduating with the class of 1963. After graduation, Marlowe entered the United States National Guard, attaining the rank of Specialist 4th Class E-4. He was honorably discharged from service on February 24, 1969.
On April 15, 1967 Marlowe was united in marriage to Diana Hanneman at United Church of Christ in Schleswig by Rev. Ratzlaff, and were blessed with the birth of two children. Marlowe worked from 1964 to 1970 in various management roles with J.I. Case Company in Carroll, Spencer, Algona, Fairmont, Minnesota and New Ulm, Minnesota. In 1970, he returned home to join his father-in-law, Bruce in the family farming business, later forming B.H. & M.S. Farms, Ltd. In 1980.
He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather, who enjoyed spending as much time with his family as possible. He was very proud of them and looked forward to attending his grandchildren's events and other family gatherings. In addition to farming, which he loved very much, Marlowe enjoyed woodworking. He was involved with various card clubs and was a past member of the Schleswig Enterprise Board, and served on the Board of Directors of Farmers Mutual Insurance in Schleswig. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig where he served several years as a church Elder.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur; and his brother, Lloyd. He is survived by his wife, Diana of Schleswig; his son, Todd and his wife, Kris of Schleswig; and his daughter, Stacy Olson and her husband David of Blair, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Spencer and Payton Schultz of Schleswig, and Aidan and Chase Olson of Blair; his mother, Meleta Schultz of Denison; his mother and father-in-law, Bruce and Alvera Hanneman of Schleswig; one sister-in-law, Carol Schultz; of Spirit Lake, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Reverend Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites. Burial was at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight was the organist and accompanied the congregation for the hymns, "How Great Thou Art," "The Lord's Prayer," and "Lift High the Cross." Pallbearers were Kevin Clausen, Mark Janssen, Mark Beeck, Derick Bruhn, Mike Beeck, and Alan Weiss. After the committal service everyone was invited by the family back to the church where a lunch was served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of the arrangements.

Verdell Brus (1938 - 2007)
Verdell Brus was born at Denison, Iowa, April 1, 1938, the son of Hugo and Elvera Wiedemann Brus. On May 29, 1938, he was baptized at Friedens Evangelical Church in Schleswig and later confirmed at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. He was raised on the farm and received his early education in the rural schools before being graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1956.On March 8, 1959, Verdell was united in marriage with Carol Slater at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa. Their union was blessed with three sons, Scott, Jeff and Todd. They made their home on the farm west of Denison where Verdell farmed first with his father and later with his sons, Jeff and Todd. In December 1982, Verdell and Carol moved into Denison and Verdell continued his lifetime farming career until his death.
Although his farming career occupied much of his time, Verdell enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, socializing with friends, attending farm sales, browsing through antique stores, collecting farm toys, running the bulldozer on his farm, traveling, hunting, and enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada. His love and passion for farming was established early in his life and he enjoyed being a 4-H member and Denison FFA member and president, exhibiting livestock at the Crawford County Fair. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison.
Verdell died Monday morning, February 5, 2007, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 68 years, 10 months and 4 days.
Verdell was preceded in death by his father, Hugo Brus, uncles, aunts and nephews. Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 48 years, Carol Brus of Denison, Iowa, three sons and their wives, Scott and Carol Brus, Jeff and Michele Brus and Todd and Tracy Brus all of Denison, 8 grandchildren, Katelyn, Holly, Andy, Hannah, Dan, Kristina, Mackenzie and Jake Brus, his mother, Elvera Brus of Denison, two sisters, LaJune and husband, Martin Magill of Perry, Iowa, and Karen and husband, John Knudson of Everest, Kansas, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 8, 2007, at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Brian K. Rihner officiating. Music for the service was provided by Charlotte Dueland singing "On Eagles Wings" and "The Lord's Prayer" with Marilynn Jepsen serving as organist. Honorary pallbearers included Wesley Roth, Robert Pollock, Roger Brodersen, Robert Denker, Dale Kruthoff, Kenneth Hansen, Marvin Campbell and Larry Brodersen. Pallbearers were Shaun Magill, Bruce Knudson, Randy Clinton, Reggy Clinton, Dennis Slater and Steve Slater. Interment was at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Following the interment the family invited all in attendance to return to the church and join them for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the United Presbyterian Women. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Richard Walter Hansen (1936 - 1987)
Richard Walter Hansen was born on Oct. 20, 1936 at Schleswig, Iowa the son of Earl Hansen and Helen Pithan Hansen Koch. He died Feb. 15, 1987 at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove after a long illness at the age of 50 years, three months and twenty-six days.Richard was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak and graduated from the Charter Oak High School in the Class of 1954. He was a Farm Bureau Insurance Agent until he established an independent agency of Heartland Insurance of Schleswig.
Richard was united in marriage to Shae "Geraldine" G. Hartmann of Pocahontas, on Dec. 27, 1959 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. To this union two children were born. He served on the organizational planning committee of the Schleswig Golf Course and also served on the board of directors of the Golf Course for many years. He was an active Cub Scout leader and supported the Music Booster, Athletic Booster Clubs and various other educational committees. He served on the Church Council and was serving as a Schleswig City Council member at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his father Earl Hansen on Sept. 6, 1937. After his father's death he and his mother moved to Denison and resided in the home of his grandparents, Henry and Augusta Pithan and Uncle Gerhardt Pithan. At the age of eleven he moved with his mother and stepfather, Albert Koch to a farm west of Schleswig.
Dick's attitude concerning life can be summed up in the eloquent words of Uataro Kobayashi, "Lovely things can never be lost; they remain in our memories, where they live forever. Only in our minds can we own things ... and there is nothing more worth owning than the memory of beauty and the ideas of truth." Dick was a devoted husband and loving father. He will be missed by a host of relatives and friends.
Survivors include his wife Shae of Schleswig, one daughter Samantha Hansen of Iowa State University of Ames, and Richard "Scott" Hansen at home, his mother and stepfather Helen and A.H. Koch of Ricketts, one stepbrother Roger Koch of Omaha, Neb. and two stepsisters, Paula Hansen of Milford, Kan., and Gaylene Lee of Battle Creek.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wed., Feb. 18, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Rev. Darrell T. Bailey officiated at the services. Mrs. Colleen Goode served as organist with Teresa Selk and Eric Selk singing a duet "Beautiful Savior" and the congregation singing "Nearer My God to Thee". Interment was made at Forest Lawn of Omaha, Neb. Serving as honorary pallbearers were William J. Peterson, Glen Bielfeldt and Michael Nash. Serving as pallbearers were Don Meyer, Everett Evers, Roger Jepsen, Dale Lacey, Arlan Meseck and Lauren Mielitz. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Sandra Gay Claussen (1951 - 1990)
Sandra Gay Claussen was born March 15, 1951 in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Ione Rosburg Claussen and died February 16, 1990 at the age of 38. Sandra was baptized a Christian April 9, 1951 and later confirmed in the Lutheran Faith April 3, 1966. She spent her youth on the family farm where she developed a sincere affection for God's land and nature.Her early education began in Deloit and then Denison where she graduated from the Denison Community High School in 1969. In recent years, she devoted her career to farming and utilized some of her land for tree farming of which she was particularly proud. She was a devoted Christian who occupied much of her time reading scripture and involving herself with many church related activities. Her character was reflected in her name and evidenced by her smile, her compassion, and affection she had for her family. Her faith in the Lord and the inspiration she possessed touched the lives of all those who knew her and loved her.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and served as an officer of Single Lutherans Alive, an organization of young Christian singles. Other organizations include: A charter member and President of Iowa Woodlands Owners Association; National and State Holstein Association; and the National Arbor Foundation.
She was preceded in death by her father Henry in 1971, and one sister Shelly Huisinga in 1986. Surviving her death include: her mother, Ione; three sisters; Karen Book and her husband Lloyd of Denison; Sharon Kleckner and her husband Lowell of Denison; Renae Claussen of Denison; two brothers; Lo Dean of San Diego, California and Scott and his wife Karen of Denison; one brother-in-law, Richard Huisinga and his wife Cindy of Denison; her maternal grandparents, Leonard and Minnie Madsen of Sioux City, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 19, 1990 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated at the services with interment in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Mrs. Karen Kahl was organist. Congregational hymns were "Let Us Ever Walk with Jesus", "Beautiful Savior" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Serving as pallbearers were: David Gray, Terry Blunk, Les Brown, Craig Brodersen, Brian Book and Eric Book. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Services in Denison, Iowa.

Melvin Herbert Miller (1936 - 2003)
Melvin Herbert Miller was born May 17, 1936, the son of Herbert and Amanda Bielenberg Miller. He died Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa at the age of sixty-seven.Melvin was born in Crawford County, Otter Creek Township. He was baptized in Christ on December 11, 1936 and later confirmed in the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig, Iowa on March 25, 1951. He received his high school education from the Schleswig High School, graduating with the class of 1954. On January 8, 1956 Melvin entered the United States Anny and was honorably discharged on January 7, 1958, receiving a Good Conduct Medal.
On July 16, 1966 Melvin was united in marriage to Karen Kay Kastner. Together they made their home in Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of two children, Wade and Wendy. In 1972 Melvin purchased an interest in Schleswig Transfer where he remained active until the time of his death. Melvin was also involved with several businesses, including the gas station, feed store, the drive-in and farming.
Melvin enjoyed golfing, playing cards, fishing and doing anything with his grandchildren. His grandchildren were very special to him and he enjoyed spending time with them. He was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Schleswig City Council. He also served as a Committee Chair for the Cub Scout Pack 47, and was a past Volunteer Fireman and Church Council Member.
Melvin was preceded in death by his father; his wife, Karen in October of 1992; two brothers-in-law: John Durham and Walter Nevil.
Survivors include his son, Wade and his wife, Patti of Schleswig; and his daughter, Wendy Bumann and her husband, R.J. of Ida Grove; five grandchildren: Kayla and Kristine Kastner; and Dakota and Dalton Miller, all of Schleswig; and Ryan Bumann of Ida Grove; his mother, Amanda Miller of Denison; two brothers: Wayne Miller and his wife, Joyce of Schleswig; and Larry Miller and his wife, Judi of Phoenix, Arizona; four sisters: Dolores Tamisea and her husband, Don of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Arlene Sonksen and her husband, Gerald of Kearney, Nebraska; Lois Nevil of Scottsdale, Arizona; and Barbara Kerrane and her husband, Barry of Dallas, Texas; two brothers-in-law: Ron Kastner of Yutan, Nebraska; and Robert Kastner of Schleswig; one sister-in-law: Roberta Jepsen and her husband, Steve of Schleswig; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2003 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Chris Burtnett officiated the services and grave side rites held at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Paul Allen Kragel Jr. (1933 - 2002)
Paul Allen Kragel Jr. was born July 29, 1933, the son of Paul and Lavern Holtorf Kragel. He died Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at the Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of sixty-eight.Paul was born near Charter Oak, Iowa, where he lived with his parents. He was baptized in Christ on August 27, 1933 at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak and later confirmed there on March 30, 1947. Paul received his education in a rural school near his home and continued to work on the farm until entering the United States Army on January 8, 1956. He served his country as a Military Policeman, stationed in Berlin, Germany. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1957, Paul returned to the Charter Oak area to farm.
On January 19, 1958, Paul was united in marriage to Bernadine Ernst. They settled on a farm near Charter Oak and were blessed with the birth of three sons. In 1969, they started the Kragel Family Business, with concentration on agriculture. In 1974, they moved to a farm northwest of Schleswig and in 1977, Kragel Incorporated was formed and still continues today. The couple moved to Schleswig in 1990. Paul was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Special joys in his life were his grandchildren, fishing, traveling, and farm auctions.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of forty-four years, Bernadine; three sons, Randall and his wife, Leisha; Ryan and his wife, Rhonda; Neil and his wife, Kim, all of Schleswig; seven grandchildren, Jeffery, Clinton, Adam, Jessica, Michelle, Jackie and Ashley Kragel; one sister, Marlene White and her husband, Wes of Lakewood, Colorado; three brothers, Gary Kragel and his wife, Dolly of Smithland; Larry Kragel of Charter Oak; Mark Kragel of Sioux City; also one uncle, Walter Holtorf and his wife, Mureen of Denison; other relatives and friends.
The victory of his life has now come. With God by his side a new life has begun.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2002 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Rubie Kastner singing "The Lord's Prayer" and congregational hymns "Lift High the Cross" and "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound." Honorary pallbearers were: Michelle Kragel, Jessica Kragel, Jackie Kragel, Ashley Kragel and all those whose friendship he enjoyed. LaRue Pearl (Bielenberg) Bartels (1920 - 1990)
LaRue Pearl Bartels, the daughter of Herman C. and Meta Naeve Bielenberg, was born in Hanover Township, near Schleswig, Ia., June 8, 1920. She died at her home April 3, 1990, at the age of 69 years. LaRue grew up on a family farm and attended rural schools, furthering her education of one year in the Schleswig High School. After her education, she assisted in homes in the area as needed.LaRue and Lawrence Bartels of Ute were united in marriage Nov. 9, 1938, in the Lutheran Parsonage in Denison by Rev. Carl W. Schmidt. This union was blessed with six children. LaRue and Lawrence farmed in Crawford County for 24 years, moving to Schleswig in 1966. They owned and operated the Bartels Bakery and Cafe in Schleswig for 11 years and managed the Schleswig Community Golf Course Club House for three years. She and Lawrence were custodians of the Immanuel Lutheran Church for a year and a half before retiring.
She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the United Church of Christ. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and was a devoted member of the Ladies Aid of the church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, and one brother. Survivors include her husband, Lawrence; her children: Robert Bartels and his wife, Carolyn of Lincoln, Neb., Dorothy and her husband, Linus Wessling of Mapleton, Larry Bartels and his wife, Cindy of El Paso, Texas, Rev. Dennis Bartels and his wife, Beth of Miami, Fla., Patricia and her husband, Craig Knutzen of St. Charles, Mo., and Deborah and her husband, Christopher Ritsch of Omaha; 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and one sister-in-law, Eva Bielenberg of Charter Oak.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Pastor Richard E. Nelson officiated at the services with interment in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Mrs. Marlene Hight was organist. Congregational hymns were "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But a Stranger Here." Serving as pallbearers were Merle Bielenberg, Virgil Bielenberg, Lyle Bielenberg, Kenneth Amunson, Ronald Amunson and Raymond Frerichs. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Service of Schleswig.

Walter Louis Hageman (1927 - 1992)
Walter Louis Hageman was born May 19, 1927, the son of Bernard and Alinda Kelm Hageman. He died at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa on Tuesday, June 30, 1992 at the age of 65 years.Walter was born on a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa and received his education in a rural school near his home and also in St. John's Lutheran School in Charter Oak. After completing his education, he worked on the family farm until entering the U.S. Army in November of 1945. After his discharge he was employed by various farmers in the Castana, Iowa area and was currently employed by the Hansen Cattle Company in Turin.
On May 31, 1949 he was united in marriage to Bernice Schoenherr at the Catholic Church in Mapleton, Iowa and were blessed with six children. Walter was a member of the American Legion Homer Hall Post No. 66 of Charter Oak, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two granddaughters. Survivors include a special friend, Darline Henkel of Castana; four sons: Michael and his wife, Marsha of Charter Oak, Robert of Charter Oak, Richard of Ute and Roger and his wife Deon of Charter Oak; two daughters: Patricia Ruser and her husband, Jerry of Holstein and Deborah Deiber and her husband, Stanley of Charter Oak; ten grandchildren. Also one brother, Donald Hageman of Henderson, Nevada and two sisters: Marlene Malone and her husband Eugene of Dow City and Phyllis TenEyck and her husband, Russell of Dow City.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 3, 1992 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak, Iowa with Dr. Edward Petersen officiating the service and grave side rites held at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Charter Oak, Iowa. Carol Hunter provided the organ accompaniment for Cathy Hanson and Nancy Hanson singing "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and "I'm But a Stranger Here." Lavaughn Mae (Friedrichs) Schultz (1924 - 2005)
Lavaughn Mae Schultz was born May 18, 1924, the daughter of William and Erna Kutschinski Friedrichs. She died at her home near Kiron, Iowa, on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at the age of eighty-one.Lavaughn was born in Alexandria, South Dakota where she was baptized in Christ. As a child, she moved with her family to Charter Oak, Iowa where she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith, at St. John Lutheran Church in 1938. She continued her education in the Charter Oak Community High School, graduating with the class of 1942. She subsequently attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa and received her teaching certificate and taught at Willow #3, a rural school near her home. For 5 1/2 years she walked 2 1/2 miles each way to educate the children in that region.
October 3, 1948, Lavaughn was united in marriage to Irvin Schultz at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. The couple settled in Crawford County and were blessed with the birth of four daughters. In her leisure time, she loved to scrapbook and make cards. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, canning, and baking. She loved writing letters, notes, sewing and making all kinds of crafts. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cared for her family with an enduring devotion while teaching her daughters to cook and be good homemakers. Additionally, she enjoyed socializing with family and friends over a game of cards and board games.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include: her husband, Irvin of Kiron; four daughters, Rhonda Jackson and her husband, Paul of Harahan, Louisiana; Denise Jansen and her husband, Dave of LaVista, Nebraska; Glenda Jansen and her husband, John of Omaha, Nebraska; and Beth Johnson and her husband, Tony of LaVista, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Gina and Alana Hansen, Krystal Jansen, Benjamin, Andrea and Andrew Jansen; one great-granddaughter, Eliana McKenna; one brother, Don Friedrichs and his wife, Nadine of Charter Oak; two sisters, Delores Suhr and her husband, Ray of Luverne, Minnesota; and Rita Lafrentz and her husband, Delbert of Mapleton, Iowa.

Lorraine Meta (Gehring) Dersein (1922 - 1994)
Lorraine Meta Dersein was born December 2, 1922 the daughter of Edward and Freida Christiansen Gehring. She died at her home in Denison on Saturday, May 21, 1994 at the age of seventy-one years.Lorraine was born on a farm in Hanover Township and grew up on a farm north of Boyer, where she attended a rural school near her home. During WWII Loraine lived in Boston, MA, and New York City. She subsequently returned to Denison and was employed in various cafes.
On August 26, 1950, Lorraine was united in marriage to Hans Dersein at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Dubuque. The couple made their home in Denison and were blessed with the birth of three children. In 1953, they purchased Harold's Club in Denison. After the death of her husband, Lorraine continued working there until her retirement. Lorraine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She was a loving and caring mother, daughter, grandmother and friend who always had time to share with her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father and her husband, Hans. Survivors include her mother, Freida Gehring of Denison; one daughter, Susan Salmon and her husband, George of Denison; two sons, David and his wife Cindy of Bourbonnais, IL and Kenneth and his wife, Nancy of Harlan; five grandchildren; one brother, Edward Gehring of Odebolt; and two sisters, LaMorn Kropf and Darlene Dresen and her husband Leonard both of Wall Lake.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, May 23, 1994 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, with Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Philip E. Bloch officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Ruby Ellen (Koelle) Klink (1922 - 2005)
Ruby Ellen Klink was born August 17, 1922, the daughter of Karl and Bertha Lorenz Koelle. She died Thursday, April 14, 2005 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-two.Ruby was born on a farm near Manilla, Iowa and received her education in a rural school near her home. She was baptized and confirmed December 1946 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa by Rev. Carl Schmidt.
On December 16, 1942, Ruby was united in marriage to Walter Klink at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison. The couple made their home on the Klink family farm near Vail and were blessed with the birth of three children. After her children were born, Ruby worked at the Kollbaum's Turkey Processing Plant in Carroll and then back to helping her husband on the farm. After Walter died Ruby moved to Denison and in December of 2002, she made her home at the Denison Care Center.
Ruby was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and their Ladies Aid. She was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She enjoyed sewing, mending and quilting at church with the Ladies Aid. Ruby also loved flower and vegetable gardening, canning vegetables and meat. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; three brothers, Delbert Koelle and his wife, Lucille; John Koelle and his wife, Louise; Emil Koelle and his wife, Bertha; three brothers-in-law, Meinhard Klink and his wife, Amanda; Bud Mehrens; and Otto Klink; one sister-in-law, Ella Schultz; and a half-brother-in-law, Albert Petersen and his wife, Mary. Survivors include two sons, Randy Klink and his wife, Cindy of Vail; Gene Klink and his wife, Ardis of Cortaro, Arizona; one daughter, Karen Olerich and her husband, Roger of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Esther Mehrens of Denver, Colorado; a sister-in-law, Lillie of Manilla, Iowa; other relatives and friends.

Shirley Ann (Meyer) Spack (1927 - 2005)
Shirley Ann Spack was born December 16, 1927, the daughter of Charles and Alma Schroeder Meyer. She died Sunday, February 27, 2005 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of seventy-seven.Shirley was born in Carroll, Iowa and received her education in a rural school near Westside. After completing her education she worked at Cronk's Restaurant in Denison.
On January 6, 1946, Shirley was united in marriage to Clifford G. Spack at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Carl Schmidt. The couple farmed west of Manilla for a couple of years and in 1948, they moved to Aspinwall where they farmed and operated Pat's Place. In the early 1980's, Shirley tended the bar at the Manning V.F.W. After the death of Clifford, Shirley moved to Manning in 1991.
She was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. She was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. Shirley loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She kept busy and was very active at crossword puzzles, crafts, crocheting, and baking rye bread. In her leisure time she enjoyed bowling, listening to Polka Music on KDSN, playing cards and socializing with friends.
Preceding Shirley in death were her parents, her husband, one brother, Marvin Meyer and his wife, Janea (Shorty); three brothers-in-law, Ed Jochimsen and his wife, Esther; Elmer Spack and his wife, Laverne; Jim Spack; and one nephew, Ben Meyer.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Lile and her special friend, Jerry Irlbeck; one son, Rick Spack, all of Aspinwall; five grandchildren, Trudy Rosenbaum and her husband, Aaron; Heather Diersen and her husband, Zane, all of Grimes; Jalen Spack and his wife, Michelle of Guthrie Center; Michelle Lile; Tony Lile and his wife, Gina, all of Manilla; six great-grandchildren, Dyllan Rosenbaum, Wyatt Rosenbaum, Quenton Spack, Alex Spack, Maryse Diersen and Luke Lile; two brothers, Clayton Meyer and his wife, Edna; Lyle Meyer and his wife, Joann, all of Denison; sister-in-law, Arlene Spack of Manning; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Ralph J. Larson was born September 6, 1925, adopted son of Frank and Verna Miller Larson. He died at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on Sunday, October 22, 1995 at the age of seventy.Brownie as he was better known was born on a farm near Dow City, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. He received his education in a rural school near his home and the Charter Oak Community School where he graduated with the class of 1944.
After graduation, Brownie worked for Hoefer-Bunenz Hardware until he was united in marriage to Vernet M. Neddermeyer on June 20, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak by Rev. W. Schroeder. The couple settled on a farm near Charter Oak and were blessed with the birth of two children. Brownie retired from farming and the family subsequently moved to Charter Oak where he owned and operated the Larson Grocery for ten years before becoming employed by the Minnesota Mutual Insurance Company in 1966. He remained in the insurance industry until retiring in 1991.
Brownie was a loving and caring husband and father who valued the importance of his family. He devoted a tremendous effort to the community and was named Charter Oak Citizen of the Year in 1974. In his leisure time, Brownie enjoyed golfing and woodworking and loved sports. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak where he served as Elder for several years as well as the St. John School Board, the Charter Oak Community Club, the Charter Oak Commercial Club, Charter Oak Volunteer Fireman for many years and was on the board of Eventide for twenty-five years.
Brownie was preceded in death his parents and one brother, Robert in 1991. Survivors include: his wife, Vernet of Charter Oak, two daughters, Jeri Lynn Kolpin and her husband, Myron of Alta, Iowa; and Patti Jo Peters and her husband, Joe of Fremont, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Eric, Emily and Evan; one brother LeRoy Brown and his wife, Molly of Martinez, California; two sisters, Ruth Kuhlmann and her husband, Edgar of Charter Oak; Donna Berka and her husband, Melvin of Lincoln, Nebraska and one sister-in-law, Ruth Brown of Dayton, Iowa.

Marion L. (Houston) Hamann (1927 - 2001)
Marion L. Hamann was born on December 24, 1927 at Dow City, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Laura Wilder Houston. She was raised in the Dow City area and received her formal education in local schools.On July 3, 1947 Marion was united in marriage to Donald R. Hamann at Denison, Iowa. Their union was blessed with three children, Pamela, James and Donna. They made their home in Omaha, Nebraska, Chicago, Illinois, Akron, Ohio and Buffalo, New York, as Don pursued his career with P.I.E. Trucking. In 1981 Don retired and they returned to Dow City. Donald died October 9, 1995 and Marion continued to reside in Dow City. Marion was a busy homemaker and in retirement years she enjoyed reading, playing cards and Bingo. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dow City.
Marion died early Saturday morning February 10, 2001 at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 73 years, 1 month and 16 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald, 3 brothers, George, James and Edward Houston, 2 sisters, Betty Hodkin and Lois Steinkuehler.

Music for the service included EveVonne Muff serving as soloist singing "Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace" with Seila Sliefert serving as organist. Casket bearers were Kevin Riff, James Hamann, Steven DeLong, Joe Houston, Jon Houston and Michael Houston. Interment was at the Dow City Cemetery, Dow City, Iowa. Mona Darlyne Christiansen Schillerberg was born on a farm near Kenwood, Iowa in Crawford County on June 4, 1920. She was the daughter of Edward August Carl and Leva Marie Killion Christiansen. She died Saturday, February 15, 2003 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-two.Darlyne was baptized at the First Methodist Church in Denison on March 12, 1921 She graduated from Charter Oak High School with the class of 1937. Darlyne went on to study at a summer program given through a branch of Cedar Falls and Iowa Tech of Sioux City, Iowa. She then taught in rural schools in Crawford County for four years. Darlyne was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on October 5, 1941.
On December 25, 1941, she married Harold George Schillerberg of Hanover Township. During the first year of their marriage, they lived on a farm in Soldier Township, near Ricketts, Iowa. They then purchased a farm that was five miles east of Denison and lived there twenty-three years. Harold experienced farm accidents which caused him and Darlyne to change occupations. They purchased the Delux Motel in Ida Grove in November of 1965. After eight years, they retired to Schleswig in 1973. In 1991, Darlyne and Harold returned to Denison.
Darlyne was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and their Ladies Aid. She enjoyed singing in choirs, playing golf, reading, sewing clothes and making quilts. She spent time as a salesperson for Raleigh's Products, Sarah Coventry Jewelry, and World Book Encyclopedia. For a time, she worked in Harker's Variety in Denison. Darlyne was also a 4-H Leader for several years.
Darlyne was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harold in 1997. Survivors include five daughters, Nancy Barango of Chicago, Illinois; Lois Hofer and her husband, Rev. Dr. Paul of Aurora, Colorado; Shirley Kloes and her husband, Tom of Menasha, Wisconsin; Susan Smillie and her husband, Rev. Dr. Gene of Madrid, Spain; Alice Schillerberg and her husband, Dr. Michael Albrich of Portland, Oregon; one son, Edward Schillerberg and his wife, Peggy of Cripple Creek, Colorado; sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday February 18, 2003 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. David Loeschen officiated the service and grave side rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Garden in Denison, Iowa. Mary Kuhlmann provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Beautiful Savior", "How Great Thou Art" and "I was There to Hear Your Borning Cry". Pallbearers were: Shane Schillerberg, Justin Schillerberg, Dennis Backhaus, Scott Hofer, Keith Gordon, Chris Hofer and Bruce Aldag. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to return to the church to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Women's Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Donna Ree (Kropf) Friedrichsen (1924 - 2003)
Donna Ree Friedrichsen was born March 7, 1924, the daughter of Walter and Edna Westcott Kropf. She died Saturday, July 26, 2003 at the West Point Living Center in West Point, Nebraska at the age of seventy-nine.Donna was born in Deloit, Iowa and received her education in the Deloit Community School, graduating with the Deloit High School class of 1941. She moved to San Diego, California, where she worked at a munitions factory and later at a uniform plant, making uniforms for soldiers during the war. Before returning to Crawford County, Donna lived in St. Louis, Missouri for three years.
On May 12, 1948, Donna was united in marriage to Raymond Friedrichsen at the Friedens Evangelical Parsonage in Schleswig, Iowa. The family made their home in Schleswig until moving to Denison in 1964. Donna worked at Farmland for fifteen years and at Hatties and Harold's Club. Raymond passed away in 1982 and Donna moved to Lake Okoboji. In May of 2003, she made her home in West Point, Nebraska to be near her family.
Donna was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa and the Presidents Club with Avon. She was a loving mother and grandmother who lived life to its fullest. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, baking bread, especially banana bread, as well as fishing. Donna was an outgoing woman with an amazing spirit and an uncontestable love for life and those she loved. She will be missed by many. She did it all her way.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Betty Lou Kropf and one brother, Lonnie Gene Kropf. Survivors include one daughter, Joanne Shurter and her husband, Lynn of Omaha, Nebraska; one son, Larry Friedrichsen and his wife, Lorri of West Point, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Christina and her fiancé Matt; Angela, Chad and his fiancé Kim, Robb; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Dennis Kropf and his wife, Lorraine of Manning, South Carolina; a sister-in-law, Evelyne Kropf of Breda; other relatives and many friends in the Okoboji, Denison and Schleswig areas.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Thomas Buzbee officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Marilynn Jepsen provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Larry Boeck singing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden". Those serving as pallbearers were: Chad Friedrichsen, Marvin Neumann, Dan Kienast, Jerry Barber, Steve Sarset and Matt Boone. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the United Presbyterian Women. Harry Charles Stover (1921 - 1996)
Harry Charles Stover was born March 5, 1921, the son of Charles and Emma Vathauer Stover. He died at his home in Denison, Iowa on Thursday, July 18, 1996 at the age of seventy-five.Harry was born on a farm in Milford Township, near Vail, Iowa. At the age of four he moved with his family to a farm near Buck Grove. He received his education at a rural school district No. 5, graduating from the eighth grade in 1934.
On January 14, 1945, Harry was united in marriage to Vera Janssen by the Rev. Lillie. The couple settled on the family farm till April of 1977, when they moved to Denison. Harry was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on February 11, 1945 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove by Rev. M. Lillie and has been a member there since. He was a voting member, has held every church office during his membership and currently held the office of vice president. He was also a member of the Golden K in Denison. In his leisure time Harry enjoyed woodworking crafts, traveling and camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Vera of Denison;·one daughter, Barbara Petersen and her husband, Virtus of Denison; one son, LeRoy Stover and his wife, LaVonne of Dow City; seven grandchildren, RaLynn, Ryan, Rodney Petersen of Boise, Idaho; Kevin, Rick, Melinda and Joshua Stover of Dow City; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Jason Stover; one sister, Irene Jepsen and her husband, Edward of Harlingen, Texas; and one brother, Thomas Stover of Orlando, Florida.

John Bielfeldt Jr. (1920 - 1994)
John Bielfeldt Jr. was born June 25, 1920, the son of John and Adelheid Pautsch Bielfeldt. He died on Tuesday, July 19, 1994 at the age of 74 years.John was born on a farm in Hanover Township, Ia. where he grew up. He was baptized at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township on July 11, 1920 and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on April 14, 1935. He received his education in the Denison Community School and graduated from there in 1938. After graduation, he worked for his family on the farm.
On January 30, 1949, John was united in marriage to Dorothy Clausen at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. C.W. Schmidt The couple settled on a farm near the Charter Oak region and were blessed with the birth of two children. In 1956, they moved to a farm near Arion where they currently lived.
John was a kind and considerate man. He enjoyed quiet drives in the country and socializing at cards with family and friends. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Denison Municipal Airport Board, the Crawford County Zoning Commission and an 18 year member of the Dow City-Arion school board where he received two awards.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Arion; one daughter, Lynn Ebert and her husband, Jerry of Washta; one son, James of Arion and five grandchildren. Also two brothers, Emil Bielfeldt and his wife, Vernette of Charter Oak and Glen Bielfeldt and his wife, Phyllis of Perry; three sisters, Ruth Jess and her husband, Hans of Schleswig, Ruby Sass and her husband, Leroy of Loveland, Colo., and Fern Held and her husband, Clarence of Hinton; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 22, 1994 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Philip E. Bloch officiating the service and graveside rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. La Donna (Lafrentz) Gosch (1921 - 1990)
La Donna Gosch, the daughter of Max and Amanda Reinking Lafrentz, was born November 1, 1921 in Grant Township, Ida County, Iowa and died April 7, 1990 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of 68 years.La Donna attended rural school (and graduated from high school) with the class of 1939. She continued her education at Buena Vista College at Storm Lake, Iowa where she studied for one year before returning to teach for two and one half years in the regional area rural schools.
La Donna and Walter Carl Gosch were united in marriage April 4, 1943 at the Evangelical Friedens Church in Schleswig, and together their union was blessed with one son, Leon. After their marriage, they farmed in the Ute area, moving to a farm north of Schleswig in 1944, where they continued to farm until retiring to Schleswig.
She was baptized in the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and later confirmed at the Evangelical Friedens Church in Schleswig. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, where she was active as a Sunday School Teacher, Secretary and Treasurer of the Church and President of the Women's Guild. In 1965 (1955?) health confined her to a wheel chair but her spirit remained high as did her faith in the Lord, and she enjoyed to the fullest, the life she had been given.
Preceding La Donna in death were her parents. Her survivors include: her husband Walter; one son, Leon Gosch and his wife Sheryl of Schleswig; four grandchildren: Lynn Gosch of Mt. Prospect, Illinois; Rodney Gosch of Iowa City, Iowa; Sara Gosch and Leta Gosch at home. Also surviving is one aunt, Malinda Reinking of Schleswig.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, 1990 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Rev. Harold E. Schaible officiated at the services with interment in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. Mrs. Dorothy Jessen was organist and Mrs. Rubie Kastner was soloist. Solo selections were: "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "How Great Thou Art." Serving as pallbearers were: Orlan Abbe, Edward Edsen, Jerry Ernst, Donald Korner, Burdell Jensen and Leon (Gosch). Loren Leonard Seils (1927 - 1998)
Loren Leonard Seils was born February 26, 1927, the son of Gustav and Ida Goerner Seils. He died Monday, January 19, 1998 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Nebraska at the age of seventy. Loren was born on a farm near Charter Oak. He received his education at the Immanuel Lutheran School, Soldier Township, Charter Oak. He was baptized in Christ and later confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charter Oak.On June 1, 1951, Loren was united in marriage to Lorraine Schulze at Zion Lutheran Church, Humboldt. The couple made their home on a farm north of Ricketts and were blessed with the birth of three children. Loren retired from (farming) in 1981 and started driving truck. In 1994, the couple moved to Denison and Loren continued driving truck. He began driving for the Ace Limo Service in the fall of 1997. Loren was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charter Oak. He loved farming and hauling his own corn in the fall. He also enjoyed traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Lorraine on July 9, 1997. Survivors include two daughters: Renee Neddermeyer and her husband, Marion of Charter Oak; Merry Petersen and her husband, Bruce of Schleswig; one son, Douglas Seils and his wife, Jaclynn of Charter Oak; seven grandchildren, Timothy and James Seils, Aaron, Christy, Eric and Ashley Neddermeyer and Jordan Petersen; one brother-in-law, Vernon Schulze and his wife, Jackie of Humboldt.

Mildred Elaine (Lorenzen) Lenz (1921 - 1999)
Mildred Elaine Lorenzen was born November 11, 1921 to Lorenz and Ora Lyons Lorenzen on a farm in Westfork Township, Woodbury County, Iowa. She attended the rural schools and graduated from Climbing Hill High School in 1938. She attended Wayne State Teacher's College in Nebraska and taught in the Woodbury County rural school and the Schleswig Elementary School.On June 9, 1945, she was united in marriage to Howard Lenz in Gulfport, Mississippi. Two daughters, Carol Ann and Donna Lee were born to this union. Millie Lenz received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of South Dakota in 1972. She retired in 1982 after teaching over twenty-six years, twenty-five of which were in the town of Schleswig.
She enjoyed church work and was active in religious work in Climbing Hill, Kingsley, Fort Dodge, Grant Center and locally. She was also affiliated with American Association of University Women Denison branch for twenty years.
Mrs. Lenz died on Saturday, March 13, 1999 at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of seventy-seven.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Howard on June 23, 1992. Survivors include two daughters: Carol Gugat and her husband, Rich of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Donna Johnson of Rapid City, South Dakota; five granddaughters, Cara, Brooke, and Paige Gugat, Jami Casey and her husband, Sean and Jackie Schad and her husband, Mike. She is also survived by one brother, Don Lorenzen and his wife, Norma of Deming, New Mexico.

Mildred Maxine (Clay) Boyens (1920 - 1992)
Mildred Maxine Boyens was born on July 30, 1920, the daughter of Walter and Maudie Lillie Clay. She died on Tuesday, December 8, 1992 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of seventy-two years.Maxine, as she was better known, was born in Leon, Iowa where she received her education in the Leon Community Schools. In the early forties, Maxine moved to Denver, Colorado and subsequently became acquainted with Raymond Boyens.
Raymond and Maxine were united in marriage on August 10, 1943 in Denver. The couple returned to Iowa in the summer of 1945 to settle and begin their farming career. Maxine was a loving and caring mother and wife. She received her Christian education as an adult and was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in 1947 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ricketts and was a charter member of their Ladies Aid.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and four sisters. Survivors include her husband, Raymond of rural Ricketts; two sons, Roger Maynard of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Raymond Boyens, Jr. and his wife, Lois of Denison; and one daughter, Susan Sievers and her husband, Mike of Carroll, Iowa. Also seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; four brothers: Miles Clay and his wife, Beulah of Hoquiam, Washington; Benjamin Clay of Leon, Iowa; Walter Clay and his wife, Catherine of Irvine, California; and Doyle Clay and his wife, Jane of Greenfield, Ohio. Other survivors include two sisters, Opal Greene of Mount Ayr, Iowa and Clara Kilgore and her husband, George of Clearfield, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Viola Jess of Lake View, Iowa and Irene Jensen of Ricketts and many nieces and nephews.

Paul W. Schneller (1945 - 2006)
Paul W. Schneller was born July 4, 1945, the son of Wilhelm and Rose Mae Schneider Schneller. He died Saturday, January 14, 2006 at his home in Denison, Iowa at the age of sixty.Paul was born on a farm near Denison, Iowa and was baptized in Christ July 22, 1945 at Zion Lutheran Church and later confirmed there on April 10, 1960. He received his education in a rural school near his home and Zion Lutheran School in Denison. After completing his education he helped on the family farm.
On March 3, 1990, Paul was united in marriage to Marylou Schwanz at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Kurt Kaiser. The couple made their home in Denison, where Paul was thankful for his marriage and family life. He worked at various places in Denison including Siemer Plumbing & Heating, Petersen Manufacturing, R & L Craft, Frehse Manufacturing and FAC in Westside. At the time of his death he was retired.
Paul was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, where he served as an usher. He was a kind and gentle loving husband and father. He shared his knowledge of being a "Mr. Fix-it" with his son, John. He loved attending John's baseball games and was proud of Calista's accomplishments and watching her grow to be a young woman. He enjoyed helping on the family farm, hunting, fishing, bowling and watching John Wayne Westerns. Paul also enjoyed collecting pens, playing cards and spending time with his relatives.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Harold and Albert Schneller; one nephew, John Dausel and one niece, Teresa Dausel. Survivors include his wife, Marylou; one daughter, Calista; one son, John Paul; three sisters, Marcella Schneller; Margaret Schneller; Mary Buss and her husband, James; two brothers, Robert Schneller and his wife, Lo'Ann; and Marvin Schneller and his wife, Deb; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Paul and Marie Schwanz, all of Denison; two sisters-in-law, Paula Dausel and her husband, Doug of Battle Creek and Laura Lee Ramessar of Joppa, Maryland; other relatives and many friends.

Norman Walter Friedrichsen (1932 - 1999)
Norman Walter Friedrichsen was born August 13, 1932, the son of Ommo and Marcella Riessen Friedrichsen. He passed away at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital on August 6, 1999 at the age of sixty-six.Norman was born in Crawford County near Schleswig, Iowa and was baptized in Christ as an infant on September 18, 1932 and later confirmed on March 30, 1947 at Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church. He received his education in the Schleswig Community School District. Norman served in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and 1952 during the Korean War.
On May 25, 1955 Norman was united in marriage to Zola Gehring in Elk Point, South Dakota. Norman drove a truck for a number of years and in 1960, he started farming, until retiring in 1995. Norman was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Ricky Allen, and one grandson, Chad Brown. Survivors include his wife, Zola of Schleswig; one son, Randy and his wife, Linda of Parker, Colorado; one daughter, Vicky Brown and her husband, Les of Denison; one step-granddaughter, Stacey Bussard of Parker, Colorado; his father and mother-in-law Roy and Alice Johnson of Schleswig, two sisters LaJune Johannsen and her husband, Roger of Audubon; Jordean Aschinger and her husband, Veryl of Wall Lake; two brothers, Virgene Friedrichsen and his wife, Wanita of Odebolt; Eugene Friedrichsen and his wife, Linda of Breda; also many nieces, nephews and friends.

Richard Lyle Wehner (1931 - 1989)
Richard Lyle Wehner, the son of Anthony and Lydia Christman Wehner, was born at Alexandria, South Dakota on April 19, 1931 and died on April 24, 1989 at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 58 years.Richard came to Ida Grove with his family at the age of four years. He attended the Ida Grove school and in 1945 the family moved to Schleswig, Iowa where Richard continued his education, graduating from the Schleswig High School with the class of 1950. He worked as a farm hand, with the Ida County Survey Crew and later for the Schleswig Leader. He made his home in Schleswig until failing health forced him to enter Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison in September 1987 where he continued to make his home until entering the Clarkson Hospital a short time ago.
Richard was baptized as an infant at the Church of God in Alexandria, South Dakota and was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig at the time of his death.
Preceding him in death were his father, two brothers, his step-father and a step-brother. Survivors include his mother, Lydia Evans of Denison; three brothers, Norman and his wife Carol Wehner of Ida Grove, Gerald Miller and his wife Mildred of Odebolt, Donald Evans and his wife Maria of Petersburg, VA and four sister, Marie and her husband Max Bilsten of Denison, Ina and her husband Julius Knop of Denison, Mildred and her husband, Duane Malone of Dow City, and Shirley and her husband Ronald Bond of Union, Michigan. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 26, 1989 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Rev. Harold E. Schaible officiated at the services with interment in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. Mrs. Evelyn Johnson was organist for Mrs. Rubie Kastner as soloist. Selections were "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Amazing Grace." Serving as pallbearers were Charles Campbell, Michael Wehner, David Bilsten, Randy Irons, Douglas Lyon and Eugene Friedrichsen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig, Iowa.

Russell Harm (1950 - 2001)
Russell Harm was born May 17, 1950, the son of Wilbur and Anna Petersen Harm. He died Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at his home in Littleton, Colorado at the age of fifty.Russell was born in Denison, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on June 15, 1950 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and later confirmed there on April 11, 1965. He received his education in the Denison Community School, graduating with the class of 1968. He continued his education at Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City. After completing his education Russell moved to Colorado, where he worked for Western Electric/Mountain Bell, Lucent, U.S. West and currently at Qwest as a Manager Technician Supporter.
Russell was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He loved being home with his dogs Tucker and Bailey, the company of children and flying kites. He enjoyed sports cars, flower gardening, plants and collecting antiques, especially telephone equipment, glass candy containers, radios and phonographs.
Russell was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur in 1993. Survivors include his mother, Anna Harm of Denison, two brothers, Roger Harm and his wife, Donna of Schleswig; Gene Harm and his wife, Sherry of Latrobe, California; four nephews, Craig Harm and his wife, K'Lynn and their children, Alex and Kara; Brent Harm and his wife, Sarah, all of Denison; David Presley and his wife, Phylicia and their children Travis and Curtis; and Jeffrey Presley, all of Sacramento, California; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 23, 2001 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "I'm But a Stranger Here", "I Am Trusting Thee, Lord Jesus" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Those serving as pallbearers were: Charles R. Harm, Larry Petersen, Jerry Petersen, Mike Petersen, Dale Wessel and Jim Segebart. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Wilhelm Jochims (1857 - 1925)
Schleswig, Iowa, July 13, 1925Largely attended funeral services of Wilhelm Jochims, who died Friday, July 10th, were conducted at the home on Monday. Burial was made in Morgan cemetery, Rev. W. G. Mauch officiated.
Mr. Jochims died after an attempt to take his own life. This tragedy occurred on Friday noon. An operation was performed, but in spite of all such attempts he lived only a short wile and expired at 6:21 p.m.
Wilhelm Jochims was born November 4, 1857, at Ronstein, Germany. In 1872 he came to America and settled at Davenport, Iowa.
On December 4, 1882, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Petersen. To this union were born eight children, three of whom have already passed away. Namely: Emma, Edward and Anna, who was Mrs. Henry Jepsen.
March, 1885, they came to Crawford county, renting a farm five miles northeast of Schleswig, later living on their own farm until 1908, when they moved to Schleswig and where they lived ever since.
Mr. Jochims was a hard worker, highly esteemed by his children as a very good father. There were many misfortunes in his life which caused him much trouble and grief. Of these we will mention the railroad wreck which caused him much suffering at the time and crippled him somewhat. There was also the continued illness of his wife. These and other things tried his patience and good will greatly.
Mr. Jochims died at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 6 days. He leaves to mourn him his wife, five children who are: Johannes of Letcher, S. Dak.; Willie of Lake Park, Bertha, who is Mrs. Herman Schroeder; Theodore, also of Lake Park; Alvina, who is Mrs. A. C. Campbell of Dallas Center, Iowa, and seventeen grandchildren, one brother, Fred, one sister, Mrs. H. Mohr.

Roger Eugene Mohr (1931 - 2000)
Roger Eugene Mohr was born March 25, 1931, the son of Fred and Henrietta Marten Mohr. He died June 15, 2000 at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of sixty-nine.Roger was born in Ute, Iowa and was baptized in Christ in April 1931 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ute, Iowa and later confirmed on March 25, 1945 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. At the age of eleven Roger moved with his family to the Mohr family farm near Schleswig. After completing his education, Roger pursued his interest in farming until entering the United States Army in 1950. He was stationed in Korea from 1951 until 1953, receiving an honorable discharge with a Distinguished Service Cross. He then served with the National Guard for sixteen years, resigning as a Captain.
On September 7, 1957, Roger was united in marriage to Myrna Yankey at the Presbyterian Church in Vail, Iowa. The couple made their home in Vail and were blessed with the birth of three sons, Eugene, Martin and Gaylen.
Myrna died July 16, 1989. Roger worked as a District Sales Manager for Na-Churs Fertilizer Company for twenty years.
On October 10, 1991, Roger was married to Marie Marshall at his home in Vail. Roger was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Vail, Vail American Legion Post No. 65 and the Masons. He was also a member of the Minneapolis Moline Collectors Club of which he was an avid collector of Minneapolis Moline tractors, machinery, and toys. He has been featured in many antique tractor books and magazines. He also published and was editor of the MM Corresponder magazine. In October of 1997, Roger was inducted into the National Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Hall of Fame. He continued to develop patterns for the miniature tractors until he became ill in May of 1999.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Mohr, one sister-in-law, Janet Lansink and a great-niece, Sarah Bendlin. Survivors include his wife, Marie of Vail; three sons, Eugene Mohr and his wife, Karen of Vail; Martin Mohr and his wife, Betty; Gaylen Mohr and his wife, Lynette, all of Westside; one stepdaughter, Vicki Marshall and her fiance, John Leinen of Denison; five grandchildren, Lindsey, Kristy, Justin, Ryan, and Mikey; his mother, Henrietta Mohr of Denison; one brother, James Mohr and his wife, Anita of Roseville, Minnesota; one sister-in-law, Ruth Noelck and her husband, Royce; one brother-in-law, Richard Lansink of Ida Grove; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, June 19, 2000 at the Untied Presbyterian Church, Vail, Iowa. Rev. Susan K. Babovec officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Vail Cemetery in Vail. Janine Kock provided the organ music for the service and soloist and guitarist, Julie Moss played and sang "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and "How Great Thou Art". Honorary pallbearers were: Orville Bohlmann, Joe Schierbrock, Raynard Schmidt, Ralph Gehlsen, Leonard Walde, Jerry Wolter, Wesley Stoelk, Kenny Kock, Bill Moss and Bill Blair. Pallbearers were: Kevin Kasperbauer, Gary Haver-man, Chuck Ballantine, John Lansink, Rob Bendlin, Steve Mumm, Kevin Moss and John Ertz. Military Honors were Vail American Legion Post No. 65 and Westside American Legion Post No. 196. A Masonic Service was held at 7:30 P.M., Sunday at the Huebner Funeral Home. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the United Presbyterian Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Ramona Ann (Bahnsen) Gierstorf (1930 - 1998)
Ramona Ann Gierstorf was born October 24, 1930, the daughter of Martin and Garnet Hamann Bahnsen. She died Thursday, September 3, 1998 at her home near Schleswig, Iowa at the age of sixty-seven.Ramona was born in Ida Grove, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on February 1, 1931 at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church, Schleswig, Iowa by Rev. K. Kielhorn and later confirmed on March 25, 1945 by Rev. A.F. Rhine. She received her education at Morgan No. 7, a rural school near her home, and graduated from the Schleswig High School with the class of 1947. Ramona continued her education at the Commercial Extension School in Omaha, Nebraska.
On April 17, 1949, Ramona was united in marriage to Delbert Gierstorf at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig. The couple settled on a farm west of Schleswig, where they farmed and were blessed with the birth of six children.
Ramona became a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township in 1949, where she was a Sunday School teacher for a number of years. She was also a member of St. Paul's Ladies Aid and Altar Guild. She was a loving wife and devoted and caring mother, who had a deep love for all her grandchildren and especially looked forward to their summer vacations spent on the farm. Ramona enjoyed family get-togethers, sewing, gardening and cooking. Her kitchen was the center of her family life. Ramona's outside interest included a membership In the Farmeretts Club. Additionally, helped at the Weltz Auction lunch counter.
Ramona was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Seth Gierstorf. Survivors included her husband, Delbert of Schleswig; three sons, Dennis and his wife, Judy of Schleswig; Darrell and his wife, Ernie of Rockford, Illinois; Gary and his wife, Sue of Lakewood, Colorado; three daughters, Marjean Hansen and her husband, Bruce of Broomfield, Colorado; Janelle Lee and her husband, Denny of De Ridder, Louisisana; Theresa Sheer and her husband, Larry of Schleswig; eighteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Bahnsen and his wife, Arlis; Gaylen Bahnsen and his wife. Marvel, all of Schleswig; four sisters, Iona Nelson and her husband, Melvin of Somers, Iowa; Janice Weltz and her husband, Willie of Denison; LaDonna Bumann and her husband, Richard of Castana; Joleen Schwarz and her husband, Ken of Dallas, Texas; one aunt, Myra Hamann of Battle Creek; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, September 6, 1998 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernst officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Hanover Township. Shirley Stull provided the organ accompaniment for congregational singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound." Honorary pallbearers were: Matthew Gierstorf, Joshua Gierstorf, Sam Sheer, Hunter Lee, Dillan Lee and Tyler Sheer. Pallbearers were: Nathan Lichtenberg, Benjamin Gierstorf, David Lichtenberg, Jerod Lichtenberg, Chris Lichtenberg, Trent Gierstorf, Shane Gierstorf and Paul Gierstorf. Ronald Allen Teut (1943 - 2006)
Ronald Allen Teut was born July 12, 1943, the son of Kermit and Irene Pautsch Teut. He died Tuesday, December 12, 2006, at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa, at the age of sixty-three.Ronald was born in Ute, Iowa, and was baptized in Christ on August 1, 1943, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township in Charter Oak, Iowa. He was confirmed at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts, Iowa on May 4, 1958. Ronald received his elementary education in a rural school near his home and graduated from Schleswig High School in 1961.
On June 26, 1965, he was united in marriage to Carol Reimer at United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. The couple first made their home in Denison and then moved to Schleswig in 1966. They were blessed with the birth of two daughters. Ronald began working at IBP in 1961 and worked until the fall of 1965 when he and his brother formed Teut Brothers from 1965-1972. In 1972 Ronald began driving for Foreman Trucking Company in Sioux City. He drove for Farmland from 1974 until he retired in 2003. He helped area farmers and worked at the Schleswig Country Club. From 1984-2004, he worked at Denison Livestock. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, and Schleswig Golf Course Board member.
He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, especially Texas Hold 'Em. He enjoyed going to and watching his grandchildren's sporting activities. Ronald was very much an outdoorsman. He was a hard, dedicated worker, and always on time. He enjoyed working with cattle and being outside. There was never a weed on the farm place or in his pastures. He loved socializing with friends and had many special friends. One favorite companion was his dog Sadie.
He was preceded in death by his father. Left to cherish Ronald's memory are his wife, Carol; two daughters: Traci Conover and her husband, Kelly, of Anthon; and Robin Ellerbeck and her husband, Rocky, of Schleswig; four grandchildren: Drew and Cody Conover of Anthon; and Bailey and Megan Ellerbeck of Schleswig; his mother, Irene, of Schleswig; three brothers: Roger Teut of Lincoln, Nebraska; Corvin Teut of Schleswig; and Myron Teut and his wife, Sheri, of Gretna, Nebraska; mother-in-law, Ruth Jess and step-father-in-law, Hans, of Battle Creek; one brother-in-law, Dennis Reimer and his wife, Lorene, of Schleswig; one step-brother-in-law, Reggie Jess and his wife, Katy, of Juniper, Florida; one step-sister-in-law, Sandy Blake and her husband, Dave, of Gordon, Nebraska; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday December 15, 2006 at the immanual Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Reverend Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites. Burial was at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight was the organist and accompanied the congregation on the hymns, "I know that My Redeemer Lives" and "Abide With Me." Eldon Hardekopf sang the solo selections, "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound" and "On Eagle's Wings." Honorary pallbearers included Harlin Schmadke, Rex Kuhlman, Byron Goslar, Dale Wessel, Gaylen Wurschel, Doug Schnoor, Ron Houston, and Kevin Boeck. Pallbearers were Leon Clausen, Chuck Herrig, Dan Seivert, Ray Santi, Duane Jacoby, Bill Benson, Ed Kluver, and JR Pauley. The family invited everyone back to the church after the committal service for fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid and catered by Staley's. The family wishes to acknowledge the prayers, memorials, flowers, food, and cards of sympathy, and politely thank each and everyone for their kind considerations.
