Wilfred E. Goslar (1927 - 1972)
Wilfred E. Goslar, was born December 10, 1927 at Charter Oak, Iowa to Mr. and Mrs. Otto Goslar. He died on Saturday, May 13, 1972. He was baptized and confirmed here at St. John's Lutheran Church. He received his elementary education at St. John's Lutheran School and then attended Charter Oak High School.He was in farming partnership with his father until 1950 when he entered the United States Air Force, in which he served until 1954. He served his country overseas in the Pacific. He then returned to farming and livestock feeding. In 1955 he entered Reppert School of Auctioneering at Decatur, Indiana. Since that time he has been involved in auctioneering, real estate and farming.
On October 27, 1957 he was married to Marlene Neddermeyer, by the Reverend Walter Schroeder. He was very active in his church and community affairs. He served as vice president of the congregation, member of the Board of Christian Education at the Lutheran School, president of the Parent Teachers League at the Lutheran School, served on the Board ; Township Trustees, member of the Community Club and many other community activities, also a member and post commander and a member of the VFW American Legion Post 166.
Survivors who mourn his passing include his wife Marlene; a daughter Lori and a son Randy; his parents Mr. and Mrs. Otto Goslar; one brother, Elden; sisters Helen, Mrs. Kenneth Torgersen, Soldier, Iowa; Edna Mae, Mrs. Charles Schultz, Lake View; Norma, Mrs. Jim Wallace, Lake View, and Jerry Goslar, Enfield, N.H. Many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held May 16, at St. John's Lutheran Church, at Charter Oak, Iowa, with Rev. Albert Prouty officiating. Mrs. Paul Clausen, organist, accompanied the St. John's Women's Choir. Interment was made at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery at Charter Oak, with the following pallbearers: William Carstens, Russell Carstens, Orlen Creese, Ronald Maack, Edward Rosburg, and Gary Timm. Honorary pallbearers were Loren Albright, Edward Baak, Bart Bielenberg, Raymond Bumann, Robert Remmes and John T. Tokheim. Huebner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary (Miller) Lapel (1925 - 1988)
Mary Lapel, the daughter of Albert C. and Florence Stepanek Miller, was born on May 4, 1925 near Dow City, Ia. She attended rural schools. On Oct. 4, 1947 she and Albert Lapel were united in marriage. This union was blessed with five children. They made their home in Denison, most of their married life. She was a devoted wife and mother.Mary passed away on Jan. 29, 1988 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 62 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son Larry and one daughter Sharon; also one older brother, one younger brother and twin sisters.
Survivors include her husband Albert; two sons, John Lapel of Colorado and Roger Lapel of Missouri; a daughter, Sandra Wilkins of Bristol, Conn; and one grandson Wayne Sherman of Bristol, Conn.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 10, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Rev. Warren Wilson officiated. Services were under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Mrs. Wilbur (Schmidt) Rath (1922 - 1989)
Mrs. Wilbur Rath, age 66, died at her home on Tuesday, June 6, 1989. She was born June 16, 1922, at Denison, Ia., the daughter of the late William Schmidt and Elsie Missling Jepsen Schmidt. Mrs. Rath was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stephensville, its Ladies Aid, and a past member of the Busy Bee Homemakers.She is survived by her husband, Wilbur; a daughter, Debra (Glen) Marten, Hortonville; a son, Larry (Pat) Rath, New London; a brother, Peter (Lorraine) Schmidt, California; and a sister, Aldora (Marvin) Rockteschel, Appleton; two grandchildren, Kayla and Joe and her mother, Elsie Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her father, William.
The funeral was held at 11a.m. Thursday, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stephensville, with Rev. G. F. Schapekahm officiating. Burial was in Ellington Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Borchardt and Moder Funeral Home, Hortonville.

Marjorie A. (Kunze) McMillan (1921 - 1993)
Marjorie A. McMillan, 72 Countryside Retirement Home, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 1993, at the nursing home. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Elwood Rieke, pastor of First Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island (Minn.) Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.Mrs. McMillan was born Jan. 16, 1921, in Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of William and Elsie Kunze. She resided in Lake Park, Iowa and Pine Island. She married Dale McMillan Sept. 3, 1939, in Charter Oak. He died June 15, 1979, in Rochester, Minn., and she moved to Sioux City in 1979. Mrs. McMillan was a member of First Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Jan and Mike Hellige of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Dennis and Diane McMillan of Milford, Iowa; a brother, William E. Kunze of Castle Rock, Colo.; two sisters, Bernadine Hannah of Denver, Colo., and Joan Platt of Gildden, Iowa; two grandson, Brad and Greg Wilson; and a granddaughter, Amy Hellige. She was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Keim.

Maxine Ruth (Schoening) Wyant (1924 - ?)
Maxine Ruth Schoening, the daughter of Paul and Elsa (Rath) Schoening, was born March 7, 1924 near Dow City, Iowa. She graduated from Lester High School, Lester, IA In 1941. Maxine then attended Wayne State College in Wayne, NE for 2 years. She moved from Lennox, SD to Sioux Falls, SD in 1946.On Sept. 19, 1948, she was united in marriage to Robert M. Wyant at Rock Rapids, IA. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls where Maxine was employed at First National Bank. She worked at First National for over 25 years, 20 years of which were spent in the Trust Department of the bank. She retired in 1972.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Merlin J. Schoening, and one half-brother, Vernon C. Schoening.
For over 45 years, Robert and Maxine have had a gentle tender marriage experience in a very loving way. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Robert, Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters-in-law, Melva Schoening, Norfolk, NE and Lynda Petersen, Denison, IA; and four nieces and three nephews, Judy Eans, Lynda Uher, Janine Cook, David Schoening, Donald Schoening, Jo Ann Pulse and Alan Schoening.

Darlene Ruth Trexel, 69, of Pueblo, Colo., a former resident of Sioux City, died Feb. 1, 1996. Services were Feb. 5 at the McCarthy-Comer Garden Chapel with burial in Coaldale (Colo.) Cemetery.Mrs. Trexel, the former Darlene Malone, was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Minnie Malone.
She married Joe Trexel April 1, 1945. The couple lived in Newark, Ohio; Sioux City; International Falls and Staples, Minn., and Salida and Pueblo, Colo. Mrs. Trexel was a member of the Church of The Risen King in Pueblo.
Survivors include her husband; four sons and their wives, Steve and Deanna of Coaldale, Colo., Joel and Gloria of Craig, Colo., Brian and Dawn of North St. Paul, Minn. And Jonathon and Juanita of Colorado Springs, Colo., three daughters and their husbands, sue and Bill Rhodes of Moffat, Colo., Debbie and Kevin Skifstad of International Falls, Minn., and Lisa and Todd Olsen of Colorado Springs., a sister and her husband, Dorothy and Bob Kamp of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Dale and Dottie Malone of Winter Springs, Fla., 20 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marian Grohman; and a grandson, Kristofer Joel Trexel.

Laura Adela Christiansen (1926 - 1997)
Laura Adela Christiansen was born March 20, 1926, the daughter of Paul and Rose Christiansen. She died Friday, December 5, 1997 at the Dunlap Care Center in Dunlap, Iowa, at the age of seventy-one.Laura was born in Boyer Township, near Denison, Iowa and was baptized in Christ, August 23, 1926, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. Her sponsors were Mr. & Mrs. Carsten Christiansen and Mrs. Christine Christiansen.
She was a very special child of God. She had a unique smile and was a kind and gentle person. Laura lived at the Dunlap Care Center for the past ten years.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by one sister, Margaret Keesling and her husband, Earl of Denison; three nieces; four nephews; and many cousins.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December10, 1997 at the Huebner Funeral Home, Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Daniel Gifford officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational singing "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and other service music, "Nearer, My God, to Thee". Those serving as pallbearers were: Stephen Keesling, Kevin Keesling, Loren Keesling, Gary Keesling, Jerry Segebart and Mark Berrier. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

William Earl Otto Goslar (1926 - 1982)
William Earl Otto Goslar, the son of Herman and Lydia (Schmidt) Goslar was born Aug. 2, 1926 near Ute, Iowa. Earl was a life-long Ute community farmer and was farming west of Ricketts.He was united in marriage to Rosie Kroll on June 14, 1945 at Ute. Earl was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church here at Charter Oak, where he was baptized on Sept. 5, 1926 by Rev. Amstein and confirmed April 6, 1941 by Rev. Scharder. He was secretary of the Ricketts Community Club at the time of his death and committeeman for the A.S.C. of Crawford County.
Earl died April 13, 1982 in a Sioux City Hospital of a brief illness having attained the age of 55 years, 8 months and 11 days.
Survivors include his wife, Rosie, two daughters, Karen, (Mrs. Raymond) Bathke of Dakota City, Neb., Bonnie, (Mrs. Earl) Johnson of Ponca, Neb.; two sons, Lester of Mapleton; and Melvin at home, 10 grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Lydia Goslar of Charter Oak. He was preceded in death by his father, and one sister, Ruth.
Funeral services were held April 17 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Charter Oak. Officiating was Pastor Lenhardt Gebhardt. Darlene Clausen was organist and Henry Henningsen, soloist. Pallbearers were Gehart Langholdt, Leonard Petersen, William Reimer, Elmer Schultz, Laverne Creese, and Laverne Benningsdorf. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Charter Oak. Walter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

LeRoy Glen DeMey (1928 - 2007)
LeRoy Glen DeMey, 79, of Sioux City died Monday July 30, 2007 at the Indian Hill Hospice. Visitation at the church 1 hour prior to the service. The Rev. David Zerpel will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Dow City, Iowa.LeRoy was born on July 11, 1928 in Crawford County, Ia. The son of William and Laura (Namanny) DeMey. He was raised in the Denison, Iowa Area. He married Shirley J. Christiansen on April 12, 1944 in Sioux City.
He worked on farms in the Crawford County area for several years. The couple moved to Sioux City. He worked for the Sioux City Stock Yards for 44 years until retirement. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church. LeRoy loved to garden and he loved spending time with his dog, Susie.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Sioux City, 6 children, Sharon Brandt of Sioux Fall, S.D., Lanny DeMey and his special friend Mary Harvey of Denison, Laurie and Bill Soule of Ft. Worth, Texas, Lisa DeMey and her special friend, Ramon Camacho of Sioux City, Steven DeMey of Sioux City, 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, a sister, Irene Ernest of Ames, Ia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Roger DeMey, grandson, Christopher Brandt, great granddaughter, Jessica Brandt, 1 sister and 4 brothers.

Freddie Henry Friedrichsen (1925 - 2006)
Freddie Henry Friedrichsen was born August 18, 1925, the son of Henry and Roma Schultz Friedrichsen. He died Tuesday, December 12, 2006, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-one.Freddie was born in rural Schleswig, Iowa, and was baptized in Christ on August 7, 1927, and confirmed on March 17, 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He received his elementary education in rural Schleswig schools near his home.
On July 31, 1949, he was united in marriage to Elaine Jeschke at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. The couple was blessed with the birth of four children. He was a very dedicated farmer, enjoying the land and animals. He could repair almost anything. Freddie worked for Farmer's Mutual Hail out of Des Moines for 12 years. He served on many boards: Farmer's Mutual, Crawford County Board of Review, Schleswig School Board, and Morgan Township Cemetery Board for 23 years. He also held various church offices. He was a very loving and dear husband. He enjoyed his family, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He liked to watch baseball games and enjoyed dancing years ago. He was always ready for a game of cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Carl Jeschke; one brother, Donald Friedrichsen; one sister, Helen Wilke; one brother-in-law, Norman Nielsen.
Left to cherish his memories include his wife, Elaine, of Schleswig; two sons: David and his wife, Jac, of Schleswig, and Andrew and his wife, Sylvia, of Amarillo, Texas; two daughters: Inez Voss and her husband, Craig, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Nancy Feauto and her husband, Steve, of Oakland, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters: JoAnn Couch and her husband, Dennis, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Gaylene Steckelberg and her husband, Dennis, of Owatonna, Minnesota; mother-in-law, Frieda Jeschke, of Denison, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held for Freddie at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Reverend Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites. Burial was at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight was the organist and accompanied the congregation on the hymns, "How Great Thou Art," "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and "Lift High the Cross." Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Petersen, Burdell Jensen, Don Koch, Bob Beeck, and Virgil Schmidt. Pallbearers were Travis Friedrichsen, Garet Friedrichsen, Tyler Friedrichsen, Matt Friedrichsen, Chad Petersen, Todd Wickens, Brandon Brink, and Don Larson. The family invited everyone back to the church after the committal service for fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements. The family wishes to acknowledge the prayers, memorials, flowers, food, and cards of sympathy, and politely thank each and everyone for their kind considerations.

Melvin Albert Bandow (1922 - 2001)
Melvin "Mac" Albert Bandow, son of Louis and Mildred (Miller) Bandow, was born October 19, 1922, near Manilla, Iowa. He attended rural school East Boyer #7 near his home. When it was time for high school, because there were no school buses in Manilla, he stayed with his uncle and attended Westside High School. He also attended Riceland High School in Howard County where his parents farmed for a time. Following his schooling, Mac worked on various farms in Howard and Crawford County. He also worked for a time in the Schleswig area where he played shortstop on their local town softball team.On June 14, 1955, Mac was united in marriage with Madonna Virgean "Jean" Gallagher at Sacred Heart Church in Manilla. They lived in Manilla where Mac worked for Farmer's Coop Lumber Company for 17 1/2 years. He then worked for Gruhn Hybrid for 23 years until his retirement. Mac was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Holy Name Society and a 20-year member of the Manilla Fire Department.
As a child, Mac loved being with his horse and dog. Mac and Jean loved to dance and Mac was an avid sports fan. In 1997, Mac became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home. He died there on Wednesday, October 10, 2001, at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 21 days.
Mac is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Jean Bandow, his roommate at the Manilla Manor; two brothers Edwing Bandow and wife Helen of Manilla and Irwin Bandow of Estherville; three sisters: Berdine and husband Gilbert Petersen of Ida Grove, Vergine Ohl of Denison, and Georgene and husband Dale Sievertsen of Omaha; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held after 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2001 at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla, Iowa with a Rosary for Mac's family at 4:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. by Rev. Fr. Robert Fangman and a Rosary by the Holy Name Society.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 13, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Manilla, Iowa. Reverend Father Robert Fangman served as Celebrant, Gerald Gallagher served as Lector, Zachary Bandow and Joe Bandow served as Mass Servers, and Sister M. Michelle Gallagher served as Eucharistic Minister. Those serving as gift bearers were Mary Reeder and Sister M. Michaelene Healey. Marilyn Backhaus served as organist accompanied by the Sacred Heart Adult Choir singing, "Amazing Grace", "How Great Thou Art", "Oh Lord, I Am Not Worthy", and "Prayer of St. Francis". Interment was held at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Manilla, Iowa. Those serving as casket bearers were Ron Petersen, Steve Bandow, Scott Bandow, Kasey Gallagher, Tyrone McSorely, and Bob Kloewer. Honorary casket bearers were Mac and Jean's nieces and nephews. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service back to the church for lunch and fellowship. The Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla, Iowa was in charge of the arrangements.

Ludwig Hammer (1924 - 1988)
Ludwig "Louie" Hammer was born March 8, 1924, at Davenport, Iowa, the son of Louie and Hilda Volquartsen Hammer. As a young child he moved with his parents to Dow City, living there briefly before moving to Manning. He spent his formative years in Manning graduating from high school there with the class of 1942.During World War II, Louie served his country in the United States Army seeing action in the western Pacific including Iwo Jima. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to Manning and worked for his father, painting. He then became an auto body man, working in Manning and later in Walnut. In 1956, Louie moved to Denison, and was employed as a body man at the Chevrolet Garage.
On June 16, 1963, Louie was united in marriage with Anita Poleske in the Chapel at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. This union was blessed with two daughters, Becky and Barbi. They made their home in Denison where Louie continued his employment with the Chevy Garage until retiring in 1986.
Louie died Saturday morning, Feb. 13, 1988, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Neb. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 63 years, 11 months and five days. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 3517, Manning, having been a charter member of that group's ceremonial team.
Louie was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Russell Hammer. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Anita of Denison; his two daughters, Becky and Barbi Hammer, both of Omaha, Neb.; his mother-in-law, Anna Poleske of Westside; and five sisters, Ruth and her husband, Ward Jensen of Manning, Margaret Bilsten of Manning, Delores Hammer of Denison, Florence and her husband, Charles Christiansen of Dow City, and Dorothy and her husband, Donald Grundmeier of Westside. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 16, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison, with the Reverend Kenneth C. Haydon officiating. Music for the service was provided by the congregation singing two hymns which were "For All the Saints" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Karen Kahl served as organist. Serving as pallbearers were Tom Remmes, Bob English, Dave Littleton, Ron Johnson, Robert Pedersen and Randy Saunders. Graveside military honors were provided by the ceremonial team from the Manning V.F.W. Post 3517 and Emil Ewoldt American Legion Post 22. Interment was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

LuVerne Frances (Mesenbrink) Brodersen (1923 - 1991)
LuVerne Frances Brodersen was born Oct. 8, 1923, to Mattie and Walter Mesenbrink at their farm in East Boyer Township. She was baptized by Rev. William Frese at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on Nov. 4, 1923. On March 1, 1924, the family moved to rural Charter Oak where LuVerne grew up. She attended Willow No. 3 school, was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church on April 10, 1938, by Rev. W.P. Schroeder, and graduated from Charter Oak High School in 1941. She then taught in area rural schools, worked for Roscoe's Jewelry Store in Denison and for the F.B.I. in Washington D.C.On Feb. 16, 1947, she was married to Vernon Brodersen at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. To this union, six children were born. Vernon and LuVerne farmed for five years in the Manilla area and for the past 40 years northwest of Denison in Hanover Township. In 1971, they moved to their present home in Denison. LuVerne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter. She loved farming, swimming, and spending time talking with her many neighbors, friends, and relatives. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid Society.
After an extended illness, LuVerne died at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., on July 23, 1991 at the age of 67 years, 9 months, and 15 days. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mattie Mesenbrink, and her brother, Galen Mesenbrink.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon of Denison; her father, Walter Mesenbrink of Denison; her six children: Cynthia and husband, Craig Corrie of Olympia, Wash., Bonnie and husband, Eugene Robbins of Ashland, Ore., Cheryl and husband, Basant Patnaik of Rock Hill, S.C., Colette and Barbara of Iowa City, and Craig of Denison; two sisters, Delores Schaefer of Three Forks, Mont., and Donna Nelson of Denison; and seven grandchildren: Christopher, Sarah, Rachel, Sangina, Emily, Brij and Sarita.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, with Pastor Kurt Kaiser and Pastor Philip Bloch officiating the service and the graveside rites at the Oakland Cemetery in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for Henry Henningsen's solos of "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer," and the congregational hymns "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Abide with Me." Pallbearers were: David Mesenbrink, Larry Mesenbrink, Roger Brodersen, Barry Kuhlmann, Larry Brodersen and Les Brown. The Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home of Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Ralph Henry Charles Schultz (1920 - 1996)
Ralph Henry Charles Schultz was born on the Schultz family farm west of Kiron, Iowa, June 6, 1920, the son of Henry and Alma Schmadeke. He was raised on the farm and received his education in the local schools. At a young age, following the death of his father, he began his lifetime career of farming the home place.On June 9, 1943, Ralph was united in marriage with Elsie Marie Crane at St. John's Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, near Kiron, Iowa. Their union was blessed with five children, Douglas, Glenn, Wanda, Cynthia and Meredith. Ralph devoted his life to the farm, being one of the first in the area to own a combine and to practice conservation using contour farming with terraces. He loved all aspects of farming, including raising livestock, being especially fond of caring for his horses. Ralph and Elsie retired from the farm in 1993 and moved to Denison, Iowa where he had since resided and practiced their Christian religion.
Ralph died Sunday evening, April 21, 1996 at St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 75 years, 10 months and 15 days. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife, Elsie Schultz of Denison, Iowa, five children, Douglas Schultz, his wife Patricia and their children, Sarah and Diane of Grand Mound, Iowa, Glenn Schultz, his wife, Barbara and their children Ryan and Jeffrey of Sioux City, Iowa, Wanda Babcock and her children, Erin, Renae and Jane of Henderson, Nevada, Cynthia, her husband John Whited and their children, Megan and Ethan of Ames, Iowa, Meredith Schultz and wife, Terry of Lancaster, Texas, one sister, Ellen and husband, Harold Henningsen of Denison, Iowa, one aunt, Eleanor Howrey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 24, 1996 at the Schleswig Community Building in Schleswig, Iowa with Dean Swenson and Bryan Hansen officiating. Music for the service included the hymns "Precious Thought" and "When Life Is Ended" with Robert and Vivian Hansen and Tom and Ellen Baurichter as vocalists. Casket bearers included Ryan Schultz, Jeff Schultz, Bruce Hansen, Roger Fielmeier, Dewey Reece and Ron Ehn. Interment was in the Morgan Township Cemetery at Schleswig, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Elaine Maylou (Creese) Eggert (1925 - 1993)
Elaine Maylou Eggert was born November 11, 1925, the daughter of Leroy and Nola Dahn Creese. She died on Saturday, April 24, 1993 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of sixty-seven years.Elaine grew up on a farm near Charter Oak and was baptized in Christ at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. She began her education at St. John's Lutheran School and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith there. She continued her education at the Charter Oak-Ute Community High School where she graduated with the class of 1943. After completing her education, Elaine was employed by various cafes in the region.
On September 24, 1944, Elaine was united in marriage to Edward Eggert at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. The couple settled on the Eggert home farm and were blessed with the birth of one son. The couple farmed near Charter Oak until retiring to Denison in 1973.
On February 11, 1978, her husband, Edward passed away and Elaine started working as a hostess at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in September of that year. She remained there until retiring in 1985. Elaine was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and enjoyed the fellowship she shared with her many friends. In her free time, she enjoyed socializing with her friends at dances, cards, bingo and bowling.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; two sisters, Pearl and her infant sister, Norva. Survivors include: one son Donald and his wife, Georgene of Denison; three grandsons, Michael, Mark and Monte Eggert; one brother, Herb Creese and his wife Evelyn of Perry, Iowa; one sister, Evelyn Schmieder and her husband, Walter of Charter Oak; a special friend, Edward Gehring of Odebolt, Iowa; also nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 1993 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Pastor Kurt Kaiser and Pastor Phillip E. Bloch officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Martha Bloch provided the organ accompaniment for Henry and Marge Henningsen singing "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross" and congregational hymn "I Know that My Redeemer Lives." Pallbearers were: Jerry Boettger, Kevin Creese, Ronald Miller, Phil Creese, Tom Mork and Dan Mork. The Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Vera Jeanette (Frey) Carstens (1927 - 2006)
Vera Jeanette Carstens was born October 5, 1927, the daughter of George and Adelia Rose Frey. She died Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at her home in Defiance, Iowa.Vera was born in Buck Grove, Iowa and was baptized in Christ November 5, 1927 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove and later confirmed there on February 2, 1941. She received her education in a country school near her home and graduated from the Denison High School with the class of 1945. She continued her education at Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa where she obtained her teaching certificate. She began teaching kindergarten in Hornick, Iowa and later, taught rural school in Washington Township.
On June 4, 1950, Vera was united in marriage to Lloyd Carstens at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove. The couple made their home on a farm near Buck Grove, until moving to the Carstens family farm in 1956. She was a great mother who loved her family dearly and spoke often of the importance of forgiveness. Her family was very important to her and always came first, as she left teaching to stay home and raise her children.
She also was very active on the farm and was willing to help Lloyd with much of the day-to-day duties. In her leisure time, Vera enjoyed flower gardening, having coffee with her Monday Morning ladies group, and cooking. Her family especially looked forward to having her crispy chicken and macaroni and cheese. She was a very active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove, and a past member of their Ladies Aid.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers-in-law: John Winter and Vernon Janssen; her son, Gary; and her husband, Lloyd.
She is survived by her sons: Ross of Grimes, Iowa; and Dale and his wife, Kim of West Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren: Tyler Carstens and his wife, Melissa of Des Moines; Casey and Kelsey Carstens of Clarksville, Tennessee; Callie Carstens of Urbandale, Iowa; and Matt Carstens of West Des Moines; one step-grandson, Ben of West Des Moines; two great-grandchildren: Noah and Emma Carstens of Des Moines; two sisters: Helen Winter of Denison; and Vi Milow and her husband, LaVerne of Denison; one brother, John Frey and his wife, Jane of Monroe, North Carolina; one brother-in-law, Gilbert Carstens and his wife, Ruth of Loveland, Colorado; nieces and nephews;·other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Gordon Buchholz officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymn, "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Soloist, Eldon Hardekopf sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me." Those serving as pallbearers were: George Janssen, Byron Meeves, Don Carstens, LeRoy Stover, Brian Plagge and Curt Janssen. Shirley Ann (Ehrichs) Schramm (1926 - 2005)
Shirley Ann Schramm was born at Aspinwall, Iowa, August 12, 1926, the daughter of Louie and Clara Eickelkamp Ehrichs. She was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism September 12, 1926 at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa and confirmed in her Christian Faith there April 20, 1941.She received her education in the Aspinwall Independent Schools before being graduated from the Manning High School with the class of 1944. Shirley began teaching in the rural schools at age 18 and attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls during the summers.
On June 6, 1948, Shirley was united in marriage with Walter Edward Schramm at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. Their union was blessed with four children, Rick, Kim, Becky and Scott. They made their home in Denison where Shirley was a busy homemaker, wife and mother. After her family was raised, she taught preschool at the Community Nursery School in Denison for 19 years from which she retired.
Walter died April 28, 1994 and Shirley remained in Denison where she lovingly cared for their youngest son, Scott. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Zion Ladies Aid, Zion Fellowship Club and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of WESCO Women's Auxiliary and a former member of the State Disability Council. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards and volunteering at WESCO.
Shirley died Friday morning, April 1, 2005 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 78 years, 7 months and 19 days.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Clara Ehrichs, her husband, Walter, two brothers, Glenn and Gene Ehrichs and one sister, Marjorie Ehrichs.
Those remaining to cherish her memory include four children, Rick Schramm and wife, Theresa of Denison; Kim Schramm and wife, Ronda of Logan, Iowa; Becky Schramm Finn and husband, Michael of Omaha, Nebraska and Scott Schramm of Denison; five grandchildren, Justin Hinners of Carroll, Iowa; Heather and husband, Nicholas Hazen of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Bethany, Cami and Erin Schramm of Logan, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Lydia Hazen of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; one sister, Dorothy Kusel of Manning, Iowa; five sisters-in-law, Pat Williams of Tucson, Arizona; Elizabeth Lownes; Ruth Thompson and Sandra and husband, Curt Stender all of Denison and Bonnie Schramm of Winter Haven, Florida; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2005 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and the Rev. David M. Sewing officiating. Music for the service was provided by Renae Claussen singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and the congregation singing "Nearer My God to Thee" with Karen Kahl serving as organist. Pallbearers included Barry Kusel, Douglas Kusel, David Kusel, David Stender, James Stender and Kirby Lownes. Interment was at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Following the services the family invited all to return to the church and join them for lunch prepared and served by the Zion Ladies Aid. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Julius Knop (1929 - 2001)
Julius, known as Jute, Knop was born March 9, 1929, the son of Fred and Alma Ullrich Knop. He died on Tuesday, January 2, 2001 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of seventy-one, after a courageous battle with cancer.Jute was born on a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa and was baptized in Christ March 31, 1929 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak and later confirmed there April 18, 1943. He received his education at Immanuel Lutheran School, Soldier Township. After completing his education he farmed and did custom combining.
On September 22, 1956, Jute was united in marriage to Ina Evans in Wichita, Kansas. The couple settled on a farm in Soldier Township, where they farmed until 1967, when they moved to a farm north of Denison. Jute was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, the Soybean Association and the Ricketts Community Club. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who enjoyed his family and friends. He enjoyed pheasant hunting and was an avid fisherman. Jute and Ina started the "Knop's Quilting", where he enjoyed quilting. In his leisure time, Jute loved socializing with his many friends and playing Euchre. In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball and was on the Ricketts, Charter Oak, and Kiron men's softball teams and played till age forty-five.
Jute was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mona Gierstorf and his father-in-law, Glen Evans. Survivors include his wife, Ina of Denison; one son, Charles and his wife Sharon of Lebanon, Missouri; one daughter, Virginia Vanga of San Mateo, California; four grandchildren, Teresa Prince and her husband, Shannon of Lebanon, Missouri; Alysa de Waard and her husband, Robert of Hollister, California; Milissa Benton and her husband, Joel of Lebanon, Missouri; Alexander Vanga of Redwood City, California; three great-grandchildren, Brianne, Jenna and Kristin Prince; five sisters, Evelyn Lively of Salina, Kansas; Mildred Melvin and her husband, John of Belton, Texas; Florence Hopp and her husband, Edwin of Charter Oak; Ruth Bruhn and her husband, Dale of Mapleton; Phyllis Dinsdale and her husband, Norman of Utah; three brothers, Frederick Knop and his wife, Evelyn of Prairie Village, Kansas; Herbert Knop and his wife, Beatrice of Ida Grove; Gene Knop and his wife, Colleen of Ida Grove; one brother-in-law, Reinhard Gierstorf of Denison; his mother-in-law, Lydia Evans of Denison; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 5, 2001 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernst officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Sandra Hammerlind provided the organ accompaniment as she and Diane Witt sang "How Great Thou Art" and congregational hymns "My Faith Looks Up to Thee" and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing." Honorary pallbearers were: Bob Riessen, John Curnyn, John Larson, Terry Skarin, Elroy Koch and Gary Knief. Loren Leo Hopp (1925 - 1992)
Loren Leo Hopp, age 66, of Hudson died at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wi., on Wednesday, December 2, 1992. He was a patient there for nearly 2 years due to his disability.Mr. Hopp was born on the family farm on December 26, 1925 in Charter Oak, Ia., the son of Leo and Caroline (Rix) Hopp. He attended grade school at Immanuel's Lutheran School near Ricketts, Iowa. It was there he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. After high school, he worked on the family farm until entering the United States Army on November 29, 1945. He received his honorable discharge on Dec. 23, 1946. While in active duty, his rank was Private and he received the World War II Victory Medal. After duty, Loren and Marcella started farming in the Schleswig, Iowa area.
On January 23, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marcella Eck at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. They continued farming in the Schleswig area until moving to Hudson in 1974 when he retired due to medical disability. He was admitted to the Wisconsin Veteran's Home at King in March of 1991. Loren was a member of the American Legion Post of Hudson, a member of the blinded Veterans Association and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. Loren was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson. He enjoyed hand-crafting leather, ceramics, bowling and fishing among other hobbies.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella; daughters: Jacqueline (Brian) Murphy of Hudson, Wi; Jeanine Hopp of Hudson, Wi., Julie (Wolfram) Schubert of River Falls, Wi. (children Amanda and Emily), and Jane (Jerry) Bernecker of Shawnee Mission, Ks. (children Eric, Katie and Lorie); sons: Bruce (Carrie) of Baldwin, Wi. (children Bryce, Jason and Megan); Blaine (Sonia) of Centerville, Mn. (child Benson); and Brian (Mary) of River Falls, Wi. (children Belinda and Becky). He is also survived by a brother, Edwin Hopp of Ricketts, Ia. and two sisters Lavina Krenmeyer of Seymour, Il. and Mildred Bahlmann of Schleswig, Ia. Preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Funeral services were Sunday, December 6, 1992 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson with Interim Pastor Dan Bruch officiating. Jan Fredrick was the organist. Acting as casket bearers were Ralph Munkelwitz, Gerald Bernecker, Wolfram Schubert, Bruce Gonitzke, Charles Meinke, Brian Murphy, Bradley Hopp and Dan Gaeu. Visitation was from 5-8 on Saturday, December 5, 1992 at O'Connell Valley Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to services. Interment was at Willow River Cemetery.

Selma (Miller) Vennink (1911 - 1994)
Selma, daughter of Herman and Minnie Steckelberg Miller, was born October 21, 1911 near Manilla, in Crawford County, Iowa. She attended Manilla schools, graduating in 1930. After graduation she worked as a housekeeper for Superintendent Fearing.On December 31, 1932 Selma was united in marriage with Louis Henry Vennink at her parents' home near Manilla. They farmed all their lives in Crawford County. Selma had grown up on a dairy farm and continued milking all of her working life. After they retired they continued to live on their acreage near Aspinwall. Following the death of her husband in 1984 Selma continued to live there until January of 1990 when she moved into her home in Manning.
Selma was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women, and the Esther Circle, as well as the Tri County Social Club. Her family was of the utmost importance to her, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and flowers.
When Selma's health began to fail she entered the Manning General Hospital where she died on Tuesday, December 13, 1994 at the age of 83 years, 1 month, and 22 days.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Marlin Edward, as an infant in 1945 and Wayne Wesley in 1972; one great-grand-daughter; and a brother, Arno Miller.
Survivors include her children: Mildred and her husband, Russell Spies, of Gray; Allen Vennink and his wife Pat, Of Manning; Lois and her husband, Ron Frahm, of Manning; Anna Belle and her husband, Errol Wegner, of Manning; Marvin Vennink and his wife, Sandy, of Manilla; and Marilyn and her husband, Keith Pfannkuch, of Manning; 21 grandchildren, and 23 great-grand-children; a brother, Alvin Miller, of Manilla; a sister, Lucille and her husband, Melroy Carstens, of Manilla; three brothers-in-law: Edward Vennink and his wife, Fran of Houston, MO.; Carol Vennink and his wife, Genevieve, of Manilla; and Clay Denton, of Manilla; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services were held Friday, December 16, 1994 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, in Manning. The Reverend Marshall Brown officiated the service. Connie Siepker provided the organ accompaniment for vocalist Brandon Vennink provided the organ accompaniment for vocalist Brandon Vennink singing "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lords Prayer", the Presbyterian Choir singing "Morning Has Broken" and "I'll Walk With God" and the congregation singing "God Be With You Till We Meet Again." Interment was in the Nishnabotna Cemetery in Manilla. Honorary bearers were Brandon Vennink, James Vennink, Corey Wegner, Craig Wegner, Kent Pfannkuch, Kurt Pfannkuch, Thomas Vennink, Nancy Macklin, Lorri Felton, Connie Siepker, Jodi George, Tami Hoeppner, Tim Larsen, Todd Larsen and Tyler Larsen. Casket bearers were Randall Spies, Rick Spies, Rodney Spies, Jon Vennink, Byron Vennink and Jeffrey Vennink.

Thelma (Judy) Lingle (1912 - 1996)
Thelma Lingle was born at Denison, Iowa, December 1, 1912, the daughter of Wilson and Laura Yankey Judy. She was raised in Denison where she received her education being graduated from the Denison High School with the Class of 1930.On October 21, 1931, Thelma was united in marriage with Leslie Lingle. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Bette. They made their home on a farm near Cherokee, Iowa before moving to their present farm home west of Schleswig in 1958. Thelma was a homemaker all of her life and a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison.
Thelma died Tuesday morning, March 19, 1996 at Wilber, Nebraska. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 83 years, 3 months and 18 days.

Thomas Herman Stover (1919 - 2000)
Thomas Herman Stover was born December 3, 1919, the son of Charles and Emma Vathauer Stover. He died Thursday, August 2, 2000 at a hospital in Orlando, Florida at the age of eighty.Tom was born on a farm in Milford Township, near Vail, Iowa. At the age of six, Tom moved with his family to a farm east of Buck Grove. He received his education in a rural school, district Number 5, near his home and graduated from the 8th grade on August 18, 1933. After completing his education he helped his family on the farm and area farmers.
On December 27, 1941, Tom entered the United States Army, receiving his training at Love Field in Dallas, Texas ACDT. He served in Australia and in the Philippines as a diesel mechanic and was decorated with a Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and a Good Conduct Medal.
After receiving his honorable discharge on January 4, 1946, Tom returned to Crawford County to farm with his brother, Harry. In the early 1960's, Tom moved to Orlando, Florida and worked as a mechanic.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harry in 1996. Survivors include one sister, Irene Jepsen of Harlingen, Texas; one sister-in-law, Vera Stover of Denison; one nephew, LeRoy Stover and his wife, LeVonne of Buck Grove; two nieces, Barbara Petersen and her husband, Virtus of Denison and Sandra Wilsen and her husband, Richard of Suffolk, Virginia.
Grave side services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 13, 2000 at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Rev. David Loeschen officiated the service with inurmment at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Walter Martin Friedrichsen (1911 - 1982)
Walter Martin Friedrichsen was born on July 7, 1911, in Otter Creek Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Carl and Anna Janssen Friedrichsen. He died on Saturday, May 1, 1982, at St. Joseph Hospital, Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 70.Walter was baptized and later confirmed in the Christian faith at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. He spent his early years on a family farm in Otter Creek Township. Walter was educated in the rural schools near his home.
On August 31, 1932, Walter was united in marriage to Hertha Jurgensen in Elk Point, South Dakota. Together they made their home on a farm near Schleswig where they remained for 27 years. In 1960, they moved to Schleswig where they operated a business in the community for 16 years. After their retirement, they continued to make their home in Schleswig. Walter was a life-long member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by one brother. Survivors include his wife Hertha of Schleswig, one son Roger and his wife Naomi of Schleswig, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 4, 1982, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Fred Moore officiated at the services. Music was provided by Mrs. Evelyn Johnson, organist, and Mrs. Rubie Kastner, soloist. Serving as pallbearers were Oran Kuehl, Andrew Clausen, Orville Hansen, Allen Janssen, Roy Janssen and Walter Jessen.

Catherine Joan Miller, age 68, of Schleswig, died Thursday, December 11, 1997, at Ida Grove, Iowa. Services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton with Paster Shirley Textor officiating. Burial was in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa. Marie Whiteing was the organist and soloist for the service. Music was "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee".Catherine Joan Miller was born July 29, 1929, the daughter of Frank and Nettie (Garved) Burkhart of Smithland, Iowa. She attended the Rodney and Smithland, Iowa schools.
On August 23, 1945,she was united in marriage to Russell Miller at Onawa, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Rodney, Danbury, Mapleton and Schleswig areas. After Russell retired in the fall of 1990, they moved into Schleswig. Joan was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton.
Those survivors left to cherish her memory include Russell, her husband of 52 years; a son and his wife, Gary and Vicky of Vinton, Iowa; a daughter, Christine Adkins of Schleswig, Iowa; three grand-children, Lori and Darrin Miller of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Russell Adkins of Schleswig, Iowa; two sisters, Virginia Oregon and Sandra Linscott, both of Sioux City, Iowa; along with serveral other relatives, neighbors and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Carey Adkins. A memorial has been established in Joan's name.
Pallbearers were John Bahnsen, Rodd Nordstrom, Michael Miller, James Clausen, Randy Petersen and Steve Johnson. Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.

Carl W. Moeller (1920 - 1980)
Carl W. Moeller was born on November 5, 1920, near Kiron, Iowa, the son of Willie H. and Minnie Kastner Moeller. He died on early Wednesday morning, December 24, 1980, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa, at the age of 60.Carl was raised on a family farm near Kiron. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home. He was baptized and later in 1935 confirmed in the Christian faith at Schleswig, Iowa.
Carl farmed with his father all of his working career. After his father's death, he moved to Kiron where he subsequently retired. Since that time he has continued to make Kiron his home.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Alvin. Survivors include, one brother Byron of Loveland, Colorado, three newphews and a niece as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, December 29, 1980, at the Kiron Baptist Church, Kiron. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Gary Clark officiated at the services. Pallbearers included Walter R. Huebner, Gordon Larson, Willard Carlson, Howard Purdy, Seldon Buller and Don Ullrich.

Dorothy Evelyn Wulf (1920 - 1982)
Dorothy Evelyn Wulf was born on December 20, 1920 at Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of John and Marie Wulf. She died on Monday morning, January 18, 1982 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa, at the age of 61.Dorothy was raised on a farm near Remsen, Iowa. She received her early education in the rural schools near her home. She later graduated from the High School in Marcus.
After moving to Sioux City with her family, Dorothy was united in marriage to Arthur Wulf on August 18, 1946 in Sioux City. Together they made their home on a farm near Schleswig. Dorothy was a long time member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by one sister in infancy.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur of Schleswig, one son, John of Schleswig, three brothers, Elmer Wulf of Sioux City, Melvin Wulf and Richard Wulf, both of Bronson, Iowa, and three sisters, Joyce, Mrs. Bob Yusten of Dakota City, Nebraska, Verna, Mrs. John Murphy of LeMars and Clara, Mrs. Herman Ranschau of Rock Valley.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 21, 1982 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Fred Moore officiated the services. Serving as pallbearers were Mark Yusten, Pat Murphy, David Wulf, Wilbert Groth, Milroy Groth and Lester Hagemann.

Eugene H. Bagwell (1920 - 2006)
Eugene "Gene" H. Bagwell was born on May 17, 1920, the son of Norbert Oscar and Pauline Deer Bagwell. He died Saturday, March 4, 2006, at the Longmont United Hospital at the age of eighty-five. Gene joined the U.S. Navy and honorably served during World War II.On June 20, 1954, Gene was united in marriage to Ruby Ann Naab. The couple made their home in Denison, where Gene was in charge of maintaining the school buses for the Denison Public Schools. After his retirement in 1988, the couple spent their winters in Arizona before becoming full time residents in 2003. The couple recently moved to Longmont, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Ann of Longmont, Colorado; one son, John Griffin and his wife, Janis, of Longmont, Colorado; three granddaughters, Jenny Kilgroe and husband Ben of Golden, Colorado, Jamie Griffin of Longmont, Colorado, and Jacque Griffin of Broomfield Colorado; two great-grandchildren Logan and Micaela; one sister-in-law, Linda Greene and her husband, Bill of Ames, Iowa; one niece, Michelle Greene of Ames, Iowa; and one nephew, Mike Greene of Ames, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 19, 2006 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Rev. David Loeshen officiated the service and inurnment at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymn, "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound". "Silent Night, Holy Night" was sung by Gene's granddaughters, Jennie, Jamie and Jacque. "Anchors Away" was played as the Recessional. Military honors were the Denison Americal Legion Post 8. The family invited everyone to join them in fellowship and lunch at Cronk's Restaurant. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Irvin Henry Boyens (1926 - 1988)
Irvin Henry Boyens, the son of Henry and Frida (Mundt) Boyens was born on July 7, 1926, at Denison, Ia. He spent his younger years in Denison and as a young man went into the armed services for his country.He moved west and met and married the former Marion E. Sirmm in North Hollywood, Calif., on July 9, 1948. He and his wife lived in the Los Angeles area for a few years and in 1953 he moved his family to the Palo Verde Valley and Blythe where he was route man for the Sparklet's Bottled Water Co. In 1962 he started the Oasis Water Co. in Blythe and also in Yuma, Ariz., and the surrounding area of Blythe, Calif.
His health kept him from working the past months, and he died Sunday, Nov. 27, 1988, at the Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe, Calif., after a long illness, at the age of 62 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Blythe, and a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1799 in Blythe.
Survivors include his wife Marion E. Boyens of 10480 North Intake Blvd., (Hwy. 95), Blythe, Calif., 92225; daughters: Mrs. Susan Todd, Havasu City, Ariz., and Mrs. Sally McIntyre, Blythe, Calif.; sons: Michael Boyens, Ehrenberg, Ariz., and Edward Boyens of Blythe, Calif; ten grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Leona D. Walde of Denison, four nieces and four nephews.
Services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church at Blythe, on Nov. 30, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Gerald L. Hoemann officiating. Burial was in the Palo Verde Cemetery at Blythe, with the Blythe Mortuary and Frye Chapel of Blythe in charge of the arrangements.

LaVerne (Slechta) Reisz (1924 - 2003)
LaVerne Reisz was born June 12, 1924, the daughter of Jerome and Ernestine Clausen Slechta. She died Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of seventy-eight.LaVerne was born near Denison, Iowa. She received her education at the Denison Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1942. She received her teaching degree from the Denison Normal College and taught in rural schools in the Denison area for two years.
On April 10, 1944, LaVerne was united in marriage to Robert Reisz at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. The couple made their home on a farm near Denison, where they lived their entire married life. They were blessed with the birth of three children, Robert Jr., David and Barb.
LaVerne was a very devoted member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, St. Rose Alter Society and the St. Rose Choir. She volunteered her service, caring for and helping others in her kind and generous ways. She also enjoyed gardening and preparing large meals for her family. In her leisure time, LaVerne and Robert loved wintering in Texas, entertaining family and friends, playing cards and bingo. In LaVerne's earlier years, she enjoyed square dancing.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Chester, Orville, Leonard and Lloyal Slechta and four sisters, Mildred Anderson, Bernice Linden, Lillian Hansen and Lois Holdsworth. Survivors include her husband, Robert Reisz of Denison; two sons, Robert Reisz Jr. and his wife, Karen; David Reisz and his wife, Diane, all of Denison; one daughter, Barb Larsen and her husband, Dan of Council Bluffs; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Curnyn and her husband, Paul of Denison; Shirley Clausen and her husband, Vernie of Weiser, Idaho; two brothers, Vurnace Slechta and his wife, Virgina of Cherokee; Kenneth Slechta of Sioux City; many other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2003 at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa. Fr. Edward Murray served as Celebrant of the Mass with interment at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison. Organist, Jean Cornelius provided the organ accompaniment for the St. Rose of Lima Choir. Serving as the Lector was Ann Delanty and Alter Servers were Matt Stuart, Matt Eiten and Ellen Claypool. Pallbearers were: Stephanie Yackley, Melissa Larsen, Todd Larsen, Greg Reisz, Alisha Satre, Cory Reisz and Gary Reisz. A Legion of Mary Rosary was held at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 13, 2003 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the Parish Center, served by the Altar Society. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Margaret Kohles, 63, of Ida Grove, formerly of Schleswig, were held Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Christensen Funeral Home in Ida Grove in charge of arrangements.She was born in 1926, in Panama and later graduated from Dow City High School. She moved to Schleswig in 1948 and worked for Farmers' State Bank until her retirement in 1983. She moved to Ida Grove last year.

Ralph William Hoffmeier passed away December 11, 2006 at his home. He was seventy-seven years old. He was born June 27, 1929 to William and Sadie (Peters) Hofffmeier. He was baptized August 4, 1929 at St John's Lutheran Church, Charter Oak. He was confirmed in 1943 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove.On August 28, 1949 he was united in marriage to Marion Didier at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove. To this union they were blessed with five handsome boys. Ralph grew up on the farm in the Buck Grove area. Before his retirement he enjoyed farming, working for the county as a mechanic, and driving the maintainer. In his spare time he enjoyed going to auctions.
Ralph had many hobbies and interest [sic] in his life. He enjoyed collecting antiques, woodworking, reading books, tinkering, tractors, and spending time outside. Ralph had a pen and pencil collection that he started as a child. Ye was still adding to that collection until today. He loved sitting outside and waving to the people passing by. Ralph loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the neighbor kids. Grandpa had a motto: Don't spoil them just give them everything they want.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his son Dennis. Survivors include his loving wife Marion of Denison; four sons, Byron and his wife Diann of Denison; Loren of Polk City, Iowa; Ron and his wife Cindy of Denison; Kevin and his wife Deb of Magnolia; Ralph had seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nine great-step-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Reverend Kurt Kaiser and Reverend David Sewing officiated the service and grave side rites. Burial was at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in the Garden of Good Shepherd. Karen Kahl was the organist for the congregational hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross," "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me." Pallbearers were Nate Hoffmeier, Dan Forbes, Eric Kaub, Josh Hoffmeier, Ryan Jepsen, and Hal Kaub. The family invited everyone back to the church after the committal service for a luncheon served by the Dorcas Society. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Vernon W. Schmidt (1928 - 1974)
Vernon W. Schmidt, 165 Cherokee Way, died November 4, 1974, in Boulder Community Hospital, Boulder, Colorado. He was 46.He was born July 11, 1928, in Denison, Iowa, and was married to Violet Lutz in Denver, May 2, 1953. Mr. Schmidt was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953. He had been employed as a draftsman for Drexel & Barrell Co., Boulder, for seven years. He had moved to Boulder from Loveland, Colorado in 1973. Mr. Schmidt was a member of Mount Hope Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Laymen's League.
Besides his wife, survivors include a son, Bruce Schmidt, Boulder; three daughters, Wanda Schmidt, Carol Schmidt and Barbara Schmidt all at home; a brother, Earl Schmidt of Denison, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. George (Ruby) Cary, Loveland, Colorado, Mrs. Marvin Kamprath, Seward, Nebraska; and parents, William and Emma Schmidt of Loveland, Colorado.
Funeral services were held at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church, Boulder, November 7. Pastor Harold Riess officiated. Burial followed in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado.

Wilbert H. Bielow (1922 - 1991)
Wilbert H. "Whip" Bielow was born Feb. 23, 1922, near Charter Oak to Walter and Martha Mueller Bielow, He was brought into the Christian faith and made a member of God's Kingdom through Holy Baptism on March 12, 1922, and confirmed in that faith on March 25, 1934 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover Township.On March 6, 1965, he was united in marriage to Pauline Ahl Struck. As a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, Whip was active in the Fellowship Club. He served in the Army during World War II and was employed by Rockwell-Collins for 24 years.
Following a long illness, he died May 13, 1991, at the age of 69 years, two months and 20 days.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline; a step-daughter, Debra Sanders; and a stepson, Steven Struck, both of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Phyllis Neighbors of Palatine, Ill.; four step grandchildren; two nieces, Marth Neighbors of Palatine, Ill., and Ann Zook of Naperville, Ill.; and a nephew, Steven Neighbors of Rapid City, S.D. Burial was at the Garrison cemetery.

LaDonna June (Hast) Skarin (1931 - 1995)
LaDonna June Skarin was born at Denison, Iowa, June 9, 1931, the daughter of Raymond Henry and Edna Marie Jepsen Hast. She was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism August 30, 1931 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and confirmed in her Christian Faith April 14, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa.She was raised in the Schleswig area where she attended the rural schools through the eighth grade. In 1947 the family moved to Appleton, Wisconsin where Donna was graduated from Technical High School with the Class of 1949.
On January 16, 1953, Donna was united in marriage with Warren D. Skarin at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. They made their home in rural Kiron where their union was blessed with three children, Doug, Debbie and Wendy. From 1968 until 1975 Donna was employed as a cook with the Denison Schools. In 1976 they moved to Denison where she had since resided. Donna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother enjoying horseback riding with her children when they were young. She had many hobbies throughout her life including sewing, baking, playing the organ, puzzle books, bowling and she was a Chicago Cubs fan.
Donna died Friday afternoon, October 13, 1995 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 64 years, 4 months and 4 days. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Edna Hast in 1987. Those who remain to cherish her memory include her husband of 42 years, Warren D. Skarin of Denison, three children, Doug Skarin and wife Tami, Debbie Skarin and Wendy Skarin, three grandchildren, Ryan and Alissa Skarin and Jessica Powers all of Denison, two sisters, Janice and husband Donald Kinas and Lorraine and husband, Raymond Sheehan all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one brother Raymond Hast and wife Marge of New London, Wisconsin, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 16, 1995 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and the Rev. Philip E. Bloch officiating. Congregational hymns for the service included "Just As I Am", "Amazing Grace" and "Old Rugged Cross". Karen Kahl served as organist. Honorary bearers were Leonard Schurke, Dr. Richard Drennen, Mike Goodin and Jerry DeMuth. Casketbearers were Cecil Blum, Dale Carstensen, Bryan Dalton, Scott Schurke, Larry Abbe and Dennis Bruhn. Interment was in the Garden of The Good Shepherd in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was charge of the arrangements.

Larry Allen Wiegel (1946 - 2000)
Larry Allen Wiegel, born October 20, 1946, the son of Leonard and Gladys Alberts Wiegel, died January 8, 2000 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of fifty-three.Larry was baptized in Christ on December 8, 1946 at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak and later confirmed there on April 10, 1960. He graduated from Charter Oak High School in 1964, and attended Iowa State University in Ames. In 1966, Larry entered the United States Army and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, where he served until 1968.
On October 23, 1971, Larry was united in marriage to Joyce Segebart at St. John Lutheran Church. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children; Kesley, Lance and Brittney. Larry was employed at Iowa Beef Packing Plant, where he worked for more than thirty years.
He enjoyed attending farm auctions and collecting farm antiques such as machinery, old wagons and toy tractors. He also enjoyed visiting with his friends, working in the yard and was very environmentally conscious, especially with regard to trees for bird habitats. He was a very loving husband and father, who enjoyed spending time with his wife and children and attending family reunions and other family functions. Larry was a member of the Homer Hall American Legion. He was active in the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, where Larry taught Sunday School since 1994.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father, Leonard and one nephew, Brian Bremser. He is survived by his wife Joyce; two daughters: Kesley Wiegel of Maryville, Missouri and Brittney of Charter Oak and his son Lance of Charter Oak; his mother Gladys of Denison; four sisters: Sharon Bremser and her husband Bruce of Treynor, Iowa; Valdene Wiegel of Denison; Pam Ray and her husband Gordon of Blair, Nebraska; and Patty Schulenberg and her husband John of Savannah, Missouri; and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Rev. L.C. Gebhardt officiated the services and grave side rites held at the Crawford. Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Art Beeck provided the organ accompianment for soloist Gwen Eckland as she sang "His Eye Is On the Sparrow" and for congregational hymns "Go Tell it on the Mountain" and "Lift High the Cross". Those serving as pallbearers were: Joel Kuhlmann, Zach Schulenberg, Brett Bremser, Randy Ulmer, Steve Beeck, Travis Ray, Bill Magill and Tyler Ray. Military honors were American Legion Homer Hall Post No. 66 of Charter Oak. The family invited everyone in attendance to return to the church for fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.

Larry Steven Mesenbrink (1949 - 2006)
Larry Steven Mesenbrink died November 27, 2006 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 57. He was born the eighth of ten children to Dorothy (Kinney) and Vern Mesenbrink on March 2, 1949, in Denison. Larry was baptized as an infant at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township in Charter Oak, Iowa, on September 28, 1975, and was united in marriage with Luann Krueger on March 21, 1976, at the same church.Larry attended St. Rose of Lima school as a child and graduated from Denison High School in 1968. During high school he participated in football. A life-long resident of Denison, Larry was involved with both Immanuel and Zion Lutheran churches. Throughout his life Larry worked for the Denison Bulletin, IBP, and in 1992 he took ownership of Jim's DX Service making it Mesenbrink Service. He loved woodworking, traveling, restoring cars and houses, and organizing and working on the Christmas programs at Immanuel. Larry loved and valued the time he had with his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and two sisters: Sandra Joan Niezgoda and Mary Patricia Mesenbrink.

Marilyn Marie (Franzek) Schoenfeld (1931 - 2001)
Marilyn Marie Franzek Schoenfeld was born February 12, 1931 in Carroll, Iowa. In 1934, Marilyn was adopted by Charles and Nellie Franzek. She, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of sixty-nine.Marilyn was baptized in Christ on July 7, 1940 and later confirmed on May 29, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. She received her education at the Schleswig Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1949 and the CE School of Commerce in Omaha, Nebraska.
On November 16, 1949, she was united in marriage to Norman Schoenfeld. The couple made their home in Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of three children, Cathy, Mary and Gale. Marilyn worked at Eventide for thirteen and one-half years. She registered the first resident and also the one hundredth resident at Eventide.
Marilyn was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, where she was taught Sunday School for many years. Marilyn was a very loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and planting beautiful flowers. She was an excellent cook, and particularly enjoyed baking and sharing her bread with family and friends. In her leisure time, Marilyn loved to play cards with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Norman of fifty-one years; her children, Tom and Cathy Bubke of Sclileswig; Mary and Mitch Hansen of Derby, Kansas; Gale Schoenfeld of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Darren and Kelly Wessel of Denison; Chris and Amy Harm of Parker, Colorado; John and Kim Peters of LeMars; Krista Bubke and fiancee, Joe Riesselman of Schleswig; Stephanine Hansen of Wayne, Nebraska; T.J. Bubke of Schleswig; Brent Hansen of Derby, Kansas; and two great-grand-daughters, Taylor and Katie Peters of LeMars; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2001 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for the congregation singing "Beautiful Savior", "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound". Serving as honorary pallbearer was Joe Riesselman. Pallbearers were: Kevin Andresen, Darren Wessel, Brent Hansen, John Peters, Chris Harm and T.J. Bubke. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Melvin W. Wittmaack (1932 - 1999)
Melvin W. Wittmaack was born at Denison, Iowa,; September 8, 1932, the son of William Christian and Christina Hadenfeld Wittmaack. In infancy, he was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and confirmed in his Christian Faith there as a teenager. Melvin was raised in Denison receiving his elementary education at Zion Lutheran School before being graduated from Denison High School with the Class of 1950. Following high school he was employed at the Thrifty Market in Denison.On March 4, 1956, Melvin was united in marriage with Norma Luitjens at the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt, Iowa. Their union was blessed with four children, Melvyn, Danny, Krista and Robert. They made their home in Denison before moving to Snyder, Nebraska where he owned and operated Superb Meats until retiring and moving to Lincoln, Nebraska. While residing in Snyder Melvin was a member of the Village Board and Lions Club. One of his great joys in life was raising and showing miniature horses.
Melvin died at his home in Lincoln, Nebraska, Sunday, January 17, 1999 with his loving family at his side. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 66 years, 4 months and 9 days. He was a member of the Eastridge Presbyterian Church in Lincoln.
Melvin was preceded in death by his father, William Wittmaack, one son, Danny Wittmaack, father-in-law, Louis Luitjens and brother-in-law, Arlen Luitjens.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife of over 42 years, Norma Wittmaack of Lincoln, Nebraska, three children, Melvyn Wittmaack and his wife, Tricia of Lincoln, Nebraska, Krista Wittmaack of Sandy, Utah and Robert Wittmaack of Virginia Beach, Virginia, three grandchildren, Jordan and Jason Mendez of Sandy,Utah and Alysia Wittmaack of Lincoln, Nebraska, his mother, Christine Wittmaack of Denison. Iowa, two sisters, Lucille and husband, Keith Waldron of Schleswig, Iowa and Deloris and husband, Glen Meyer of Westside, Iowa, mother-in-law, Loyal Luitjens of Denison, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 20, 1999 at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison with Dr. John Loudon, pastor of Eastridge Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, Nebraska, officiating. Music for the service was provided by guitarist and vocalist, Steve Neumann, singing "How Great Thou Art'" and "I'm But A Stranger Here, Heaven is My Home". Honorary bearers were Donald Hoist, Richard Janning. Brent Waldron, Randy Waldron and Kim Skadeland. Casket bearers included Dick Frank, Brian Meyer, Tom Schleis, Russell Sedlacek, Gordon Cose and Kevin Christie. Interment was at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Milroy W. Groth (1933 - 1996)
Milroy W. Groth was born July 18, 1933, the son of William and Louise Wulf Groth. He died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison on Wednesday, April 10, 1996, at the age of sixty-two.Milroy grew up on the family farm, receiving his education in a rural school near his home. After completing his education, he helped his family on the farm until joining the U.S. Army in 1956 where he served in the supply office. After completing his military responsibilities in November of 1957, Milroy returned home where he continued working on the family farm.
On June 12, 1965, Milroy was united in marriage to Marlene Schultz at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. The couple settled on, the Groth family farm in Goodrich Township. Milroy enjoyed working, collecting antique toy tractors and was especially proud of his Super MTA tractor which he looked forward to driving in parades and other special occasions. He enjoyed bowling and dancing and was particularly delighted to dance a polka.
He was a loving husband, brother and uncle who enjoyed being with his family. He was a member of the United Church of Christ where he served on the church council and the property committee in addition to serving as an usher. He was also the area Crow Seed Corn dealer and served on the ASC committee.
Milroy was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law, Donna Groth. He is survived by his wife,. Marlene of Denison; two brothers, Wilbert and his wife, Lorraine of Denison, and Vertus and his wife, Marlys of Denison; five sisters, Darlene Jensen and her husband, Arlo of Schleswig, Irene Meiners and her husband, Herman of Denison, Marilyn Pirwitz and her husband, Darlo of Charter Oak, Betty Meeves and her husband, Paul of Dunlap, and Margaret Moeller and her husband, Erwin of Denison and one brother-in-law, Earl Schultz and his wife, Joleen of Charter Oak.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 1996, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Richard Hempenius officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Wendy Bumann provided the organ accompaniment for vocalists, Barb Buffum, Janet Lafrentz and Pam Gronau singing, "How Great Thou Art" and "Heaven Is My Home" and congregational hymn, "Amazing Grace". Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Donald Listamann, Delaine Listamann, Rev. Virgil Ewoldt, Joe DeConnick, Milfred Nemitz, Norman Klinker, Elmer Reimer, Derald Evers, Percy Creese and Alva Lill Jr. Pallbearers were Mike Meiners, Bryan Meeves, Larry Jensen, Kreg Schultz, Kevin Groth and Roger Groth. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Reggie Dean Bruhn (1951 - 1997)
Reggie Dean Bruhn was born October 6,1951, the son of Delphin and Marilyn Christiansen Bruhn. He died Monday, August 25, 1997, at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa, at the age of forty-five.Reggie was born in Ida Grove, Jowa and was baptized in Christ, October 28, 1951 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and later confirmed there on April 11, 1965. He received his education at the Schleswig Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1969. He continued his education in accounting and management at the Commercial Extension School of Commerce in Omaha, graduating on March 26, 1976.
He entered the United States Navy in 1970, where he served as a supply clerk. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1974, he returned to Omaha for eighteen months to complete his education.
On August 6, 1977, Reggie was united in marriage to Debra Namanny at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig by the Rev. Letzring. The couple made their home on his mother's farm south of Schleswig, where they farmed for fifteen years, then purchased the Schultz acreage, where they have lived for the past five years.
Reggie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig. He enjoyed attending his children's sports activities. Reggie took great pride in farming and his pig and stock cow operation. In his leisure time he enjoyed camping, hunting, all sports activities, especially football. Reggie also enjoyed music from the seventies.
He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. Survivors include his wife, Debra of Schleswig; two sons, Derick and Clinton, both at home; his mother, Marilyn Neddermeyer and her husband, Herman of Ute; one brother, Randy Bruhn and his wife, Mary of Carroll; one sister, Sandy Gronau and her husband, Dale of Kiron; his father and mother-in-law, Wilbert and Maxine Namanny of Kiron; three sisters-in-law, Kathleen Lickteig and her husband, Michael of Kiron; Rebecca Schwarz and her husband, Mitchell of Schleswig; Pamela Lackman and her husband, Charles of Denison; two brothers-in-law, James Namanny and John Namanny of Kiron; also many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, August 28, 1997 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Paisley Robison singing "Friends" by Michael W. Smith and "If You Could See Me Now" by Truth and congregational hymn "There Is An Hour of Peaceful Rest". Those serving as honorary pallbearers were: John Namanny, Charles Lackman, Allen Ernst, Bruce Paulsen, Ron Teut and Corvin Teut. Pallbearers were: Mark (Rocky) Ellerbeck, Mitchell Schwarz, Michael Lickteig, Craig Johannsen, Dennis Bruhn and Dale Gronau. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Andrew Bell (1930 - 1991)
Robert Andrew Bell was born September 4, 1930 the son of Andrew B. and Clara C. Curry Bell. He died April 5, 1991 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 60 years.Robert was baptized as an infant October 2, 1930 and he received his first Holy Communion April 23, 1939 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church by Fr. Casey. He began his education in the St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Denison, and continued in the Denison Community High School. While young he moved to Loveland, Colorado and worked at a service station before returning to Denison. In 1951, Bob entered the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1952 as a consequence of his parents ill health.
He was united in marriage to Maxine Gehring February 29, 1952 and was blessed with the birth of two children. Bob worked for Automotive Parts in Denison until 1968 when he started a firm called City Auto Parts in which remained active as owner and operator.
On June 26, 1983, Bob was united in marriage to Ruth Else and the couple made their home near Kiron. In his extra time, Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the serenity of the outdoors. He had a particular fondness for his home, trees, and wildlife. His qualities are marked by kindness, compassion, understanding and love he had for his family and the many friends he had is evidence of his character. His memberships include: St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison; Denison Chamber of Commerce; Iowa Pork Producers; Iowa Cattleman Association; and the Iowa Soybean Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Kiron; two children Robert Alan Bell of Laurens, Iowa and James Anthony Bell and his wife Christy of Omaha, Nebraska. Other survivors include three step-children: Lashelle Evans and her husband Richard of Carson, Iowa: Tamela Johnson and her husband Fred of Janesville, Iowa; and Renee Else of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Also one grandchild Ashley Bell of Omaha; and five step-grandchildren Jeff, Jennifer, Nicole, Randy and Russell Evans of Carson.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 8, 1991 at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa with Fr. Michael T. Larkin serving as Celebrant of the service and grave side rites held at the St. Rose Cemetary in Denison. Mrs. Jean Cornelius served as organist for the St. Rose Choir singing "Here I Am Lord", "On Eagles Wings", "Take These Wings", and the "Battle Hymn of the Republic". A Parish Wake Service was held Sunday, April 7, 1991 at 8:00 p.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Serving as pallbearers were David McCullough, Richard Frank, Jeff Theulen, Richard Knopp, Ron Jahn, and Bud Barnes. Walter A. Huebner & Sons' Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
