Lenhardt H. Teut (1918 - 2004)
Lenhardt H. Teut was born July 14, 1918, the son of Otto and Edna Naeve Teut. He died Monday, July 26, 2004 at the Crawford Community Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-six.Lenhardt was born at this parent's home in Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ , September 1, 1918 at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak, Iowa, and later confirmed there, in German, on March 20, 1932. He attended parochial school and completed his education at Soldier No. 6 School.
On August 17, 1941, Lenhardt was united in marriage to Anna M. Clausen at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig, Iowa. They settled on the family farm and were blessed with the birth of two children, Joyce and Lowell. The couple farmed for twenty-one years before going into business at the Standard Station in Schleswig, with his son. Lenhardt and Anna sold their farm and moved to Schleswig in 1967. During the Standard Oil Business, Lenhardt was also part owner, together with the late Milton Wassgren, of the Dairy Creme, for a short time. Lenhardt retired from the Standard Oil Business in the summer of 1986.
Lenhardt was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He was an unselfish man who remained active in his community. He served as a Board Member of the Ricketts Telephone Company for many years and was secretary of Soldier Township Schools, where he worked for the consolidation of rural and city schools. Lenhardt served for fourteen years on the Schleswig City Council, including eight years as Mayor. In his leisure time, he enjoyed taking Sunday drives in the area and spending times with his family and friends. He also loved displaying Christmas lights and tending his yard.
Lenhardt was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lucille Kuhlmann and LuVerne Kuhlmann; brothers-in-law, George and Raymond Kuhlmann, Jurgen , Herbert, Andrew, Leonard and Paul Clausen, Edgar Else; and two sisters-in-law, Irene Clausen and Sylvia Clausen.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; one daughter, Joyce Miller and her husband , Wayne; one son, Lowell Teut and his wife, Julie, all of Schleswig; eight grandchildren, Dr. Kristy Bradley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Kenneth Miller and his fiancee, Laurie Zeiman and daughter, MaKayla of Schleswig; Kurt Miller and his wife, Kerri of Aurora, Colorado; Kipp Miller of Vancouver, Washington; Craig Teut and his wife Val of Schleswig; Derek Teut of Sioux City; Jerod Petersen and his wife, Kim of Schleswig; Keri Winsick and her husband, Glenn of Omaha, Nebraska; eleven great-grandchildren; also three sisters-in-law, Frieda Else of Eventide; Bernice Clausen and Mildred Clausen, both of Schleswig; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2004 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Lift High the Cross", "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "Abide With Me". Those serving as pallbearers were: Kenneth Miller, Jerod Petersen, Derek Teut, Kipp Miller, Kurt Miller, Craig Teut and Glenn Winsick. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Lenhardt Fick (1917 - 1991)
Lenhardt (Len) Fick was born to Fred and Martha Kelm Fick on November 28, 1917 at Schleswig, Iowa. He was married to Lavone Rusch on February 26, 1939. Len was the owner and operator of the Coast to Coast store in Estherville until he retired in 1974. They moved to the lakes in 1977.He was a member of the Union Memorial Church of Milford. He took great joy in recently completing a project of making several stained glass windows for the church.
Len died unexpectedly on January 4 at Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Surviving are his wife, Lavone; two sons, Arlan and his wife Leilani of Concord, California and Gary and his wife Peggy of Estherville; four grandchildren, Adrian, Leina, Cynthia, and Dan; sisters, Leona Schroeder of Lake Menawa, Iowa, Beatta Bielenberg of Mapleton, Iowa; and brother, Edwin of Longmont, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Blondina Olsen.
Services were held Wednesday, January 9, 1991, at the Union Memorial Church in Milford, Iowa with interment in the Morgan Cemetery, Schleswig, Iowa on Thursday, January 10, 1991.

Leo Broder Hansen (1918 - 1987)
Leo Hansen was born on July 22, 1918 near Deloit, Iowa, the son of Meyer Hansen and Ella Boysen Hansen. He died on June 12, 1987 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 68 years.Leo received his early education in rural schools and graduated from the Deloit High School with the class of 1935. He was a long time member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
On Sept. 16, 1943, Leo was united in marriage to Opal M. Cose of Deloit at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage by Rev. C. W. Schmidt. To this union two children were born. Leo farmed with his father after his schooling, and after marriage settled on the home place near Deloit where they lived until the time of his death.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson in 1980. Survivors include his wife Opal; one son Dennis N. and his wife Jane Hansen of Sedro Wooley, Wash.; one daughter, Kathlene and her husband Clayton Bral of Denison; three grandchildren and one brother Elroy and his wife Lucille Hansen of Denison.
Funeral services were held June 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with burial in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Pastor James W. Ristvedt officiated. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist with Henry Henningsen, soloist, singing "Let Us Ever Walk With Jesus," "Just As I Am" and "Nearer My God To Thee." Serving as pallbearers were Arlo Reissen, Robert Fink, Harold Fink, Harold Henningsen, Kermit Henningsen and Alvin Schwenn. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Leona Amelia (Kolls) Jensen (1910 - 1990)
Leona Amelia Jensen was born Feb. 13, 1910, in East Boyer Township, Crawford County, Ia., the daughter of Henry C. and Christina Christiansen Kolls. Leona was baptized into the Christian faith on June 25, 1910. Her early years were spent at home and she received her education in the Denison Public Schools.On March 2, 1927, she was united in marriage with Frank J. Jensen at Logan, Ia. To this union one son, Russell was born. The couple farmed various places in Crawford County for 25 years. In 1952, they left the farm and moved to Denison where they operated the Denison Bowling Alley until 1957. The couple continued to make Denison their home.
Frank died Dec. 26, 1981. Leona continued to reside in Denison, spending the last ten winters in Green Valley, Ariz., where she had many friends. Her interests included needlework, walking and reading. Bus trips with the Senior Citizens were a great enjoyment to her. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison and belonged to the Ladies' Circle there.
Leona died at her home Wednesday, Aug. 28, 1990. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 80 years, six months and 15 days.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Frank Jensen; two brothers, Fred Kolls and and Henry A. Kolls; and a sister, Ella Louisa Brandenburg.
Survivors include her son, Russell Jensen and his wife Jenevie of Milwaukee, Wis.; two grandchildren, Chris Jensen and Tina Jensen; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison. Dr. James G. Cramer was the officiating clergyman. Comfort in music included a solo, "In The Garden," and the congregational hymn, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." Vocalist and organist was Suzi Swarthout. Pallbearers were Chris Jensen, Henry Kolls III, Wesley Brandenburg, Tedd Bliesman and Howard McMinimee. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery, Denison. Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Leona Emma (Wiese) Deiber (1913 - 2003)
Leona Emma Deiber was born March 25, 1913, the daughter of Carl Henry and Madelina Schmahl Wiese. She died Friday, March 14, 2003 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-nine.Leona was born on the family farm in Buck Grove, Iowa and received her elementary education in a rural school near Buck Grove and graduated from Denison Community High School.
On November 29, 1933, Leona was united in marriage to Walter Deiber. The couple settled on a farm near Buck Grove and were blessed with the birth of three sons. The couple farmed until Walter's death in 1959. Leona remained on the farm until 1962, when she moved to Manilla where she did mending and sewing, worked part-time for Calvin's Grocery Store in Manilla, and subsequently, worked at Harker's in Denison. Leona then moved to Denison and lived in the Denison Park Apartments until entering the Dunlap Care Center in 1993 and then Eventide Lutheran Home in 1996.
In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards, quilting, crocheting, doing embroidery and needlework. She loved socializing and being around people. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; one step-daughter, LuVerne Deiber; two step-sons: Wallace and Glen Deiber; fourteen sisters and brothers; and one daughter-in-law, Judy Deiber.
She is survived by her sons: Lloyd and his wife, Janice of Denison; Ronald and his wife, Carol of Alta; and Alan and his wife, Linda of Omaha; one step-daughter, Marian Block of Denison; twelve grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two daughter in laws: Bernadine Deiber of Denison and Lois Deiber of Ricketts; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2003, at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Thomas Buzbee officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Iowa Township Cemetery in Aspinwall, Iowa. Marilynn Jepsen provided the organ accompaniment for Larry Boeck, singing, "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross" and congregational hymn "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Those serving as pallbearers were: Bruce Argotsinger, Terry Deiber, Erik Deiber, Matt Deiber, Tim Deiber and Eric Kumm. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Presbyterian Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Leona E. (Vogt) Hopp (1918 - 1999)
Leona E. Hopp was born June 26, 1918, the daughter of Max and Ida Marten Vogt. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, Thursday, January 28, 1999 at the age of eighty.Leona was born in Worthington, Minnesota where she grew up. She was baptized in Christ July 28, 1918, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota. She received her education in the Worthington Community School.
On January 29, 1939, Leona was united in marriage to Raymond Hopp. The couple made their home on a farm near Worthington, Minnesota, until 1942, when they moved to a farm east of Charter Oak, Iowa. After Raymond's death on September 17, 1970, Leona moved to Charter Oak, where she worked at the Charter Oak-Ute School Cafeteria for eleven years. She retired in 1984, but continued to stay busy with church activities and a club to which she was a member.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, their Ladies Aid and a former member of the Altar Guild and Choir. Leona was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed times spent with her family. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, sewing and baking pies and socializing in a game of cards.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond, three brothers, Walter, Arnold and Carl Vogt.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Hopp and his wife, Leanna of Charter Oak; Dale Hopp and his wife, Sharon of Alliance, Nebraska; one daughter, Sharon Dahms and her husband Denis of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren, Steve Hopp and wife, Trista; Bridget Vaughn and husband, Mark; Brenda Hanson and husband, Allan; Troy Hopp and wife, Linda; Tammy Borkowski and husband, Gary; Tonya Withee and husband, Mike; Trudy Buntjer and her husband, Doug; Bruce Dahms and wife, Robin; Jennifer Dahms; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Frieda Nelkorn of Worthington, Minnesota; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, February 1, 1999 at the St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. L. C. Gebhardt officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Charter Oak. Art Beeck provided the organ accompaniment and sang, "How Great Thou Art" and congregational hymns "Lift High the Cross", "My Faith Looks Up to Thee" and "Just as I Am, Without One Plea". Leonard Carl Fritz (1912 - 1987)
Leonard Carl Fritz was the son of Ben Fritz and his wife, Emma Segebart Fritz. He was the oldest of eight children, born December 10, 1912, in East Boyer Township. He was baptized February 16, 1912, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla with Rev. H. Wendt minister and confirmed April 1, 1928, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with Rev. Wm. Frese pastor.He attended rural schools, completing the eighth grade. In 1942, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy serving on the U. S. S. Cleveland during World War II and discharged in November 1945.
He worked as a farm hand for his uncle Wm. Segebart for many years until he began farming for himself after his marriage to Mrs. Dorothy Bandow December 21, 1953. In February 1974, they moved to the family home in Denison and he was a Pinkerton Guard at Farmland for two and one-half years. He helped his nephew Terry Schneider at the lawnmower shop another two years until his health would not allow him to continue. After a hospital stay in June 1985, when he returned home he had been confined with oxygen 24 hours a day since that time. The last day of February 1987, he entered the local hospital going home on March 10.
The 25th of March he again was hospitalized in Denison, going to Clarkson Hospital in Omaha by ambulance the 31st where he died April 6, 1987, of respiratory failure. He was a voting member of Zion Lutheran Church having served as elder, a member of the American Legion and a past director of the Farm Bureau for East Boyer Township.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; son, Charles Bandow of Denison; and daughter, Marj, Mrs. Ronald Clausen of Schleswig; two grandchildren, Brenda and Tim Clausen; five sisters, Leona Petersen of Orange City, Dorothy Brown of Turlock, California, Luella Bohm of Wall Lake, Lorraine Mins of Irvine, California and Lois, Mrs. Edward Blum of Palos Verdes, California; two brothers, Donald Fritz of Deloit and Edward Fritz of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 1987, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with Pastor Kurt Kaiser and Pastor James Ristveldt officiating. Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery at Denison. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist for Henry Henningsen, soloist, singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand". Serving as pallbearers were Carl H. Segebart, Charles Segebart, Dale Segebart, John Steckelberg, Marvin Lackman and Irwin Denker.

Leonard James Keating (1910 - 1976)
Leonard James Keating, son of Michael John and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Keating, was born on a farm near Denison, May 30, 1910, and died at St. Vincent's Hospital in Sioux City, June 9, 1976 after a prolonged illness at the age of 66 years and 10 days.He received his education in rural schools and farmed with his parents until June 4, 1934 at which time he was united in marriage to Margaret DeConnick of Denison. They made their home on farms in the Charter Oak, Vail and Denison vicinities. Three sons and two daughters were born to this union. In 1949 Mr. and Mrs. Keating moved to Charter Oak where Mr. Keating owned and operated a trucking and corn shelling business. Due to ill health he retired in 1970.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, John. Survivors include his wife Margaret, two daughters, Carol, Mrs. Douglas Rosburg of Ft. Dodge, Nancy, Mrs. Jim Jurgens of Charter Oak, two sons Leonard of Charter Oak, Kenneth of Ute, 15 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, two brothers, John of Denver, Colo., Vincent of Denison, four sisters, Mrs. Cecilia Keating of Omaha, Evelyn, Mrs. Victor Struck of Denison, Clarian, Mrs. Ralph Struck of Schleswig, Elizabeth, Mrs. John Reinhardt, of Deloit, Wisconsin.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 12, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak with Father Gene Walding, officiating. Pallbearers were Dick Keating, John Kellogg, Donald McCall, Larry Struck, Richard Struck, Bill Wolfe, Honorary Pallbearers: Ben Klinker, Adolph Neddermeyer, Bob Sporleder, Benny Schmieder, Ray Reetz, Charles Staley. Interment was made in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. Huebner Funeral Home was in charge of services.

Leonard L. Kropf (1916 - 1995)
Leonard L. Kropf was born August 25, 1916, the son of Herman and Lizzie Hammen Kropf. He died at a hospital in Wichita, Kansas on Wednesday, March 22, 1995 at the age of seventy-eight years.On November 10, 1941, Leonard was united in marriage to Bernadine Sienger at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Vail, Iowa.
Leonard operated the U and I Cafe for three years, before moving to Minnesota and operating a restaurant. In 1952 he was employed as a painter for Skelly Oil for nine years. While living in Wichita he was employed for Mynear Decorating Company in Wyoming where he was a foeman of a painting crew. He did warrantee work for the Marlett Mobile Home Company and was custodian at St. Anne Catholic Church for five years and retired in 1981. Additionally, Leonard did a lot of work at St. Anne Church in Wichita. He enjoyed fishing, restoring toys and furniture and building things with his hands.
Survivors include his wife, Bernadine, of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Siegner of Vail and Bernadette Gallagher of Westside; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 27, 1995 at the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Vail, Iowa. Fr. Victor Ramaeker served as Celebrant with interment at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Vail. Irene Feilmeier provided the organ accompaniment for the St. Ann's Family Choir. Military Honors were: American Legion Post No. 65, Vail, Iowa. Pallbearers were: Damian Gallagher, Dale Lilleholm, John Siegner, Pete Siegner, Joe Siegner and Paul Siegner. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them for lunch at the Vail Community Building, served by the St. Ann's Altar Society.

Leonard Spahn (1910 - 1993)
Leonard Spahn was born June 1, 1910, the son of Jurgan and Sophie Jensen Spahn. He died April 29 (1993) at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, at the age of 83.Leonard was born on a farm in Goodrich Township where he grew up and received his education in a rural school near his home and the Zion Lutheran School in Denison and later confirmed there on March 28, 1926. He attended an airplane flying school in Lincoln and received his private pilot licence on June 22, 1931, and subsequently flew his own plane for several years.
On March 25, 1944, Leonard was united in marriage to Ella Mae Wingrove. The couple settled in Goodrich Township, where they farmed until 1966, when they moved to Dow City. Leonard was then employed by Crawford County for ten years. In 1976 the couple moved to Pea Ridge, and due to Leonard's ill health they returned to Dow City in 1978. Leonard was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, George and two grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae of Dow City; two daughters, Beverly Spahn of Clinton, and Brenda Lockmiller and her husband, Barry of Naples, Fla.; and one son, Ronald of Denison. Also four grandsons and one granddaughter; and one sister, Anna Spahn of Denison.
Funeral services were held at 2:30, May 2, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City, with Reverend Larry Lemke officiating the service and graveside rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Sherry Ketelson provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Henry Henningsen singing "Just A Closer Walk With Thee", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were: Vernon Neumann, Harvey Neumann, Leslie Jacobsen, Orville Riessen, Paul Jahn and Art Lutz. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them for lunch at the Dow City Community Building, served by the Bethlehem Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence C. Streck (1916 - 1990)
Clarence C. Streck, age 74, of Kiron, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 1990 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison. He was born Aug. 3, 1916 at rural Ida Grove to George and Ida Lampe Streck.On Oct. 15, 1946 he was united in marriage to Lucille Petersen at Kansas City, Kan. He was employed by Ray Kohlbaum, blacksmith, and later the couple owned and operated Lucille's Café and Rec Center, and later Lucille's Antiques, which they have continued to own and operate.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons, Justin and Jason Campbell.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Kiron; sons: Marvin and Eileen Streck, Jim and Cheri Streck, Dick and Jolene Streck, all of Schleswig, and Ronnie and Evelyn Streck of Kiron; daughters: Elaine and George Turgeon of Nebraska and Cindy K. Campbell of Odebolt; also 20 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron with Reverend Victor Johnson officiating. Interment was in the Grant Township Cemetery in rural Ida County.

Clarence R. Schramm (1912 - 1990)

Schramm was born the son of Otto and Emma Schramm July 2, 1912. He died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 78 years. After receiving his education, Clarence served his country in the armed service and was stationed in England during WWII.
On July 24, 1945, Clarence was united in marriage to Margaret Jane Thompson in Fowlmere, England.
After returning to the United States, Clarence was employed as a salesman. He lived in Dow City for four years, Buck Grove where he farmed for one year, and Ida Grove for 31 years before moving to Charter Oak, in 1990, where he purchased the Nigg Drug Store. Margaret died on Nov. 29, 1986 in Ida Grove.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ida Grove for many years before transferring his membership to St. John's Lutheran Church in Carter Oak. He was also a member of the American Legion Homer Hall of Charter Oak.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two stepsisters and one stepbrother.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak with Pastor L.C. Gebhardt and Vicar David Balla officiating at the service and the grave side rites at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Charter Oak. Angela Gebhardt served as organist for Henry Hennningsen singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Beautiful Savior." Pallbearers were Merle Schillerberg, Walter Schmieder, Edgar Glockzien, Gerald Kuhlmann, Elfred Miesner and Hugo Schulz. Military Honors were given by the American Legion Homer Hall Post No. 66 of Charter Oak. Walter A. Huebner & Sons' Funeral Home of Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.

Clarion C. Greene (1913 - 1996)
Clarion C. Greene was born October 1, 1913, the son of Arthur C. and Zella Hover Greene. He died Thursday, February 15, 1996 at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of eighty-two.Clarion was born in Denison, Iowa and received his education in the Denison Community Schools. After graduating from high school in Denison, he was employed by the Denison Police Department before entering the service in 1942. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1946 he returned to Denison and served the community as a police officer in addition to directing the department as police chief.
On September 31, 1946, Clarion was united in marriage to Elsabe Hollander in Council Bluffs. The couple settled in Denison and was blessed with the birth of one son. Clarion was also employed by the County Engineers Office and the Denison Light Department. Clarion was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denison. He was a very compassionate man who enjoyed hunting, fishing and occupied some of his free time in wood working.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leonard, Persh, and three sisters, Lois Moeller, Marian Greene, and one infant sister. Survivors include his wife, Elsabe of Denison; one son, Bill Greene and his wife Linda, two grandchildren, Michael and Michelle Greene, all of Ames; and one sister-in-law, Louise Osterlund of Denison.
Private grave side services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 17, 1996 at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Dr. Edward Peterson officiated the service and grave side rites. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Clifford G. Spack (1915 - 1990)
Clifford G. (Pat) Spack was born Jan. 6, 1915, near Manilla, Ia., the son of Michael and Emily Dieber Spack. He died Jan. 26, 1990, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Ia., at the age of 75 years. Clifford grew up on a farm near Buck Grove, Ia., and attended rural schools.Jan. 6, 1946, Clifford and Shirley Meyer of Aspinwall, were united in marriage at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Carl Schmidt. This union was blessed with two children. In 1948, they moved to Aspinwall where they owned and operated Pat's Place, but continued to farm for several years. Clifford suffered a stroke in 1987 and entered Manning Plaza in 1988.
He served his country during World War II, and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 132 of Manilla, and also a member of the VFW Post No. 3517 of Manning. He enjoyed all sports which included fishing.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and two brothers, Elmer and Victor. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two children, Dallas Lile of Manilla, and Rick Spack and his wife, Kim of Aspinwall; five grandchildren: Mitchell, Tony and Trudy Lile, Health and Jalen Spack; two great grandchildren, Cody and Luke Lile; one sister, Esther and her husband, Edwin Jochimsen of Charter Oak; and two sisters-in-law, LaVerne Spack of Denison and Arlene Spack of Manning.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 29, 1990, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Rev. Robert Riggert officiated at the services with interment in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Mrs. Fern Jensen was organist. Musical selections were, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art." Serving as pallbearers were Ronald Jochimsen, Abe Gronau, Mark Spack, Charles Meyer, Benjamin Meyer and Clark Meyer. American Legion Post No. 132 of Manilla and the VFW Post No. 3517 of Manning conducted military rites at the cemetery.

Conrad L. Kruthoff (1910 - 1987)
Conrad L. "Dick" Kruthoff was born on a farm in Denison Township, Crawford County, Iowa, March 23, 1910, the son of William and Christine Alter Kruthoff. He was baptized August 11, 1910, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and confirmed at the same church, April 5, 1925. Dick was raised on the family farm and received his formal education in the local rural schools. He was a farmer all of his life, living on and farming the farm on which he was born.In 1965, he retired and moved to Denison where he spent his retirement years. Dick entered the Methodist Hospital in Omaha Neb., February 20, where his death occurred early Thursday morning, February 26, 1987. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 76 years, 11 months, and 3 days. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Raymond and John Kruthoff. He is survived by one brother, Walter Kruthoff and his wife Marie of Denison, and two sisters, Ann, Mrs. Wernes Dethmann of Denison and Elizabeth Lueck of Denison. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, 1987, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, with the Rev. Donald D. Fraker officiating. Music for the service was provided by the congregation singing three hymns, "I'm But A Stranger Here, Heaven is My Home," "Beautiful Savior," and "How Great Thou Art," with Karen Kahl serving as organist. Honorary bearers included Paul Dethmann, Wernes Dethmann, Jr., Leo Burmeister, David Kruthoff, William Evers, Vincent Hederman, and Marvin Knittel. Casket bearers included Dale Kruthoff, Mark Kruthoff, Kenneth Lueck, Joel Lueck, Clifford Rabe, and Harold Eggers. Interment was in the Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Willetta (Kinney) Mesenbrink (1914 - 1997)
Dorothy Willetta Kinney Mesenbrink was born July 25, 1914, the daughter of Richard J. and Lillian E. Loughran Kinney. She died at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, Wednesday, April 30, 1997 at the age of eighty-two.Dorothy was born in Vail, Iowa where she lived with her parents. She was baptized in Christ at the St. Ann's Catholic Church, Vail and later confirmed at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Denison. She received her education at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic School and graduated from Denison High School, with the class of 1933. After completing her education, Dorothy was employed as a bookkeeper and sales clerk for Harkers.
She was united in marriage to Vern Mesenbrink on May 1, 1935 in Denison, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm in East Boyer Township and were blessed with the birth of ten children. In 1950, the couple moved to Denison, where Dorothy was employed by the Crawford County Hospital, Montgomery Wards and J.C. Penney. She served as the Clerk of District Court for Crawford County from January, 1969 through June 30, 1982. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Crawford County.
Dorothy was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family. She was an active member of the Legion of Mary, serving two offices, St. Rose of Lima Altar Society and Guild, active member and past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2504, Iowa County Officers Association. She served on the Denison Library Board during the remodeling. She was also a member of the American Legion, Wa-Tan-Ye, Library Club, Canasta Club, Blood Mobile, Friendly Homemakers Club, Silver Spurs Saddle Club, American Field Service and 4-H.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vern in 1980; one daughter, Mary Patricia in 1940; one grandson, Terry Lynn in 1957; one granddaughter, Tamera Jo Mitchell and one great-granddaughter, Moriah Carron in 1981.
Survivors include six sons, James and his wife , Marge of Bellevue, Nebraska; William and his wife, Judith of Smyrna Tennessee; Louis and his wife, Judith of Schleswig; Daniel of Rockwall, Texas; David and his wife, Pat of Omaha; Larry and his wife Luann of Denison; three daughters, Sandra Niezgoda and her husband, Walter of Countryside, Illinois; Celeste Stoltze and her husband, Bruce; Colleen Messenbrink all of Des Moines; thirty grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Genevieve Jacobsen of Omaha; Margaret Comstock of Vail; one brother-in-law Francis Mesenbrink and his wife, Vera of Manilla. Dorothy touched the lives of so many residents of Crawford County and is remembered for her beautiful and always present smile.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:30 A.M., Saturday, May 3, 1997 at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa. Fr. Andrew Hoffman served as the Celebrant with interment at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison. Jean Cornelius provided the organ accompaniment for vocalists, Cheryl Brodersen, Marilyn Curnyn and the St. Rose of Lima Choir. Those serving as pallbearers were; Richard L. Mesenbrink, Rodney L. Messenbrink, Justin D. Messenbrink, Carlin J. Mesenbrink, Jeffrey L. Mesenbrink, D. Scott Mesenbrink, Bruce H. Stoltze Jr. and Nick J. Niezgoda. A Legion of Mary Rosary was held at 4P.M. and a Parish Wake Service at 7 P.M., Friday, May 2, 1997 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch at the parish center, served by the Ladies Society.

Dwight Harold Kepford (1918 - 1996)
Dwight Harold Kepford was born February 20, 1918, the son of Foster and Grace Butler Kepford. He dies at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, July 19, 1996 at the age of seventy-eight.Dwight was born in Arion, Iowa. He received his education in Arion and the Dow City Community High School where he graduated.
After completing his education, he farmed with his parents for a time before serving with the Civilian Conservation Corps for several years. He subsequently worked for the Northwestern Rail Road for a short time. In December 1941, he entered the U.S. Navy and served his country in the South Pacific with the CASU #7 as an aviation metalsmith. While in the South Pacific, Dwight served at Bougainvillea in the Solomon Islands for two years, and at Guadal Canal.
After completing his military duties, he was discharged from active duty in 1945 and returned to the Crawford County region where he continued his farming career near Dow City.
In 1951, Dwight was united in marriage to Arlene Hartwig in Dunlap, Iowa. The couple settled on a farm near Arion where they raised six children. In 1961, Dwight began working for IBP in Denison but continued to farm until 1965. Arlene died in 1972, and September 2, 1979, he was united in marriage to Florence Henningsen Lingle at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Jack Heck. The couple settled in Denison where Dwight continued working at IBP until his retirement in 1982.
Dwight was a kind and considerate gentleman who cared for his family with devotion. In his leisure time, he enjoyed wood working, collecting antiques and coins as well as reading, traveling and frequently danced to the bands of the big band era.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Arlene in 1972; two sister-in-law, Stella Kepford and Maurine Kepford. Survivors include his wife, Florence of Denison; four sons, Jack Thompson and his wife, Pam of Dana, Indiana; Keith Thompson and his wife, Mary of Omaha; Larry Kepford and his wife, Peg of Denison; Mark Kepford and his wife, Denise of Omaha; four daughters, Linda Ettleman and her husband, Scott of Galena, Illinois; Shirley Tech and her husband, Larry of Denison; Laurie Keiner and her husband, Dennis of Denison; and Linda Dick and her husband, James of Denison; twenty-five grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and two brothers, Donovan Kepford and his wife, Sylvia of San Jacinto, California and Loren Kepford of Dow City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 22, 1996 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Henry Henningsen singing "Amazing Grace" and "On Eagle's Wings" and congregational hymn "I Know that My Redeemer Lives." Honorary Pallbearers were: Gene Henningsen, David Henningsen, Dennis Keiner, Loren Lee and James Dick. Pallbearers were; Jack Thompson, Keith Thompson, Scott Ettleman, Larry Kepford, Mark Kepford and Larry Tech. Military Honors were: V.F.W. Ninus L. Hunt Post #2504, Denison, Iowa. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Dorcas Society. Edna Amanda (Holthorf) Kragel (1915 - 2001)
Edna Amanda Kragel was born February, 15, 1915, the daughter of William and Lena Goslar Holthorf. She died at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa, Friday, May 4, 2001, at the age of eighty-six.Edna grew up on a farm near Ute, Iowa, and received her formal education in a rural school near her home, and St. Paul's Lutheran School in Ute. After completing her education, she remained at home and helped her family on the farm until December 5, 1935 when she was united in marriage to Martin Kragel. The couple settled on a farm eight miles south of Ute, and was blessed with three children. In 1944, the family moved west of Charter Oak. In 1978, after the death of her husband, Martin in 1977, Edna moved to Charter Oak.
She enjoyed cooking and baking, and in her leisure time, Edna enjoyed sewing, caring for her flowers and traveling. Her family was most important to her and was her world. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church on Charter Oak.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Martin in 1977; one grandson, Dean Martin Kragel in 1960; and two sisters, LaVerne Kragel and Ruth Borcherdt. Survivors include three sons, Donald and his, Judy, and Gene and his wife, Lori, all of Ute; Richard and his wife, Phyllis of Charter Oak; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; and one brother, Walter Holtorf and his wife, Maureen of Denison.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 7, 2001 at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. L.C. Gebhardt officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

Edna Anna Marie (Nehls) Else (1913 - 2007)
Edna Anna Marie Else was born May 9, 1913, the daughter of Wilhelm and Wilhelmina Hamaan Nehls. She died Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa at the age of ninety-three.Edna was born on a farm in Nishnabotna Township near Manilla, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ at St. Peter Evangelical Church in Washington Township, Crawford County and later confirmed on April 1, 1928 at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison.
Edna was united in marriage to Ben Huebner on December 6, 1933 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple made their home on a farm near Manilla and were blessed with the birth of two children, Dale and Sally. They farmed for fourteen years and then moved to Denison, where Ben started a trucking company in 1952 until the time of his death in 1962, which Edna continued to operate until 1965.
On November 28, 1965 Edna was married to George Else at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. They made their home west of Schleswig, until 1987 when they moved to Mesa, Arizona. In 1990, they returned to Iowa and settled in Carroll.
Edna was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She was also a member of the Schleswig Country Club and former member of American Trucking Association. Edna enjoyed traveling, socializing in cards, bowling, dancing and especially loved family gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ben and her husband, George, one son, Morelle Else in 2000, two daughters-in-law, Darla Huebner in 1967, Mary Huebner in 2006 and one brother, Edwin Nehls. Survivors include one son, Dale Huebner of Carroll; two daughter, Sally Sullivan and her husband, Tom of Carroll; Marlys Grell and her husband, Lyle of Fort Collins, Colorado; twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; Evelyn Nehls of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Esther Guy and Rita Huebner, both of Omaha, Nebraska.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. David Anthony officiated the services and grave side rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist Sue Rosener as she sang, "The Lord's Prayer," and "How Great Thou Art," and for the congregational hymn, "I'm But A Stranger Here." Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Tammy Johnson, Lashelle Evans, Renee Meyer, and Gary Grell. Honorary Pallbearers in Absentia were Denise Salazar, and Wendy Grell. Those serving as Pallbearers were Beth Starman, Tom Sullivan, Lisa Quandt, Becky Sulzmann, Darsi Huebner and Brenda Bach. A prayer service was held Friday at 7:00 p.m., by Rev. Brian Licht at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. The family invited everyone in attendance at the funeral to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Dorcas Society. Edna Juliane Sophia (Aldag) Gronau (1914 - 1986)
Edna Juliane Sophia Gronau was born on January 26, 1914, in Hayes Township, Ida County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry M. and Louise Marth Aldag. She died Saturday afternoon, April 26, 1986, at the Bishop Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 72 years and 3 months.Edna was raised on her family's farm in Hayes Township. She was baptized on May 3, 1914, and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 24, 1929, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township, Ida County. She received her formal education in the rural school in Hayes Township.
On June 17, 1936, Edna was united in marriage to Vernie Gronau at the Trinity Lutheran Church. To this union two daughters, Elaine and Lois, were born. They made their home on a farm southeast of Kiron, where Vernie and Edna lived their entire married life. Edna was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, where she taught Sunday School for a number of years. She was also a member of the St. John's Ladies Aid and held several offices in the organization.
Preceding Edna in death were her parents, one daughter Elaine, and one brother Walter Aldag.
Survivors include her husband Vernie of rural Kiron and her daughter Lois of rural Kiron. She is further survived by three brothers, Theodore Aldag, Louis Aldag and Vernis Aldag, all three of Schleswig, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 29, 1986, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township. Interment was in the St. John's Cemetery. Vicar Hilmer J. Hafner officiated at the services and graveside rites. Mrs. Mary Ellen Hafner served as organist for the services with Mr. Henry Henningsen serving as soloist. Selections sung by Mr. Henningsen were "The Lord is My Shepherd" and "Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me." The congregational hymn for the service was "Abide With Me." Serving as pallbearers for the services were Elroy Koch, Verlin Koch, Larry Clausen, Bruce Aldag, James Aldag and David Johnson.

Ida (Petersen) Vogt (1916 - 1991)
Ida (Eggert) Vogt was born October 23, 1916, the daughter of Christian and Minnie Boger Petersen. She died July 21, 1991 at her home in Denison, Iowa at the age of 74 years.Ida was born on a farm in Goodrich Township and received her education in a rural school near her home. She was baptized November 26, 1916 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith April 13, 1930. While a young girl she stayed at home and helped her parents until on January 12, 1941, Ida was united in marriage to Henry Eggert. The couple settled on a farm in Paradise Township and were blessed with the birth of two daughters. They continued farming until Henry's death, January 6, 1976.
On April 9, 1977, Ida was united in marriage to Frank Vogt at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. They moved to Charter Oak, Iowa where they remained for a short time before moving to Denison. Frank died February 4, 1984 and Ida continued to live in Denison. Ida enjoyed her family and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She liked to occupy her time with embroidery work and enjoyed traveling as evidenced by a six week safari to Africa and another to Alaska. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Zion's Ladies Aid and the Paradise Sisters.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Henry Eggert and Frank Vogt; one grandchild, Troy Long; and two brothers, Merlin and August Petersen. Survivors include two daughters, Corliss Christine Long of Omaha, Nebraska and Nancy Ann Gessmann and her husband Larry of Harlan, Iowa. Also one step-son Roger Vogt and his wife Holly of Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Other survivors include five grandchildren two step-grandchildren; and two brothers, Elmer Petersen and his wife Lorna and Louis Petersen and his wife Lorna of Denison. Also three sisters-in-law Helen McKee of Denison; Lidia Eggert of Denison and Hulda Nissen of Fremont, Nebraska; and one brother-in-law Harold Eggert and his wife Irene of Denison.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 1991 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with Pastor Philip E. Bloch officiating the service and grave side rites held in the Garden of Gethsemane of the Crawford Heights memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for Henry Henningsen singing solo selections of "How Great Thou Art" and I'm But a Stranger Here" and the congregation singing "I Know that My Redeemer Lives". Those serving as pallbearers were Virtus Petersen, Gordon Petersen, Dale Petersen, Erwin Moeller and Gene Kragel. The family invited everyone to return to Zion for fellowship and lunch served by the Zion Ladies Aid. The Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home of Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Ila Rose (Bledsoe) Wiebers (1919 - 1991)
Ila Rose Wiebers was born at Storm Lake, June 30, 1919, the daughter of Ben F. and Mary T. Kral Bledsoe. She was raised at Denison, where she received her education and was graduated from the Denison High School with the class of 1938. Following high school she was employed for five years in the mail order department of the Montgomery Ward Store in Denison.On February 14, 1940, Ila was united in marriage with Earl A. Wiebers, Sr. at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. Their union was blessed with four children, twins, Joann and Judith, Jean, and Earl Jr. The Wiebers lived and farmed in the Westside community for forty years. In 1981 they moved to Denison where they had the honor of celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary Feb. 14, 1990.
As was her wish Ila had the privilege of dying with dignity at her home in Denison while in the care of her loving family Sunday morning, Dec. 29, 1991. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 72 years, five months and 29 days. Ila was baptized at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison in her early years and was a member there at the time of her death.
During the years in the Westside community she was a member of the United Church there, where she sang in the church choir and belonged to the Ladies Aid. When it was in existence, Ila was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Miriam Chapter Number 457, Order of the Eastern Star in Westside. Other memberships she enjoyed include the Busy Wrens Club of Westside, Crawford County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary where she was a volunteer in the Snack Bar at the hospital, and the T.A.P. Program in Denison.
Through the years in her spare time Ila enjoyed many activities and hobbies including fishing, dancing, sewing, antiques, garage sales, and gardening. Her artistic abilities were evident in many things especially her paintings and flower arranging.
Ila was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ione Bledsoe. Those left to cherish her memory in their hearts include her husband, Earl A. Weibers, Sr. of Denison, four children and their spouses, Joann M. and Richard Coil of Lakewood, Colo., Judith C. and Allen Hays of Marshalltown, Jean N. and Ray Koenck of Hamlin, and Earl A. Jr. and Marna Wiebers of rural Denison, twelve grandchildren, and one sister and her husband, Norene and Bill Johnson of Omaha, Neb. Also surviving are other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Jan 2, 1992 at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, with the Rev. Richard J. Shaffer officiating. Music for the service was provided by Henry Henningsen as soloist accompanied by Glenn Rankin as organist. Selections include "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "In the Garden". Honorary pallbearers were the Denison Golden K Kiwanis Club and their wives. Pallbearers were her twelve grandchildren, Jeff Coil, Randy Coil, Dan Coil, Kerry Coil, Mark Hays, Marci Hays, Joel Carlson, Kristie Carlson, Ben Carlson, Matthew Wiebers and Angela Wiebers. Interment was in the Westside Cemetery at Westside. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison wad in charge of the arrangements.

Irene, daughter of Frank and Agnes Soll Meggers, was born November 7, 1912, in Westside, Iowa. She was baptized October 26, 1915, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla, and confirmed April 29, 1928, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. She grew up in the Aspinwall and Manning area, attending rural school and completing the eighth grade. She then helped raise her brothers and sisters on the family farm.On October 25, 1933, Irene was united in marriage with Lester Genzen at Zion Lutheran Church. Five children Phyllis, Daryl, Joycelyn, Beverly, and Royce, were born to this union. In 1934 Lester began farming for himself on rented farms until retiring in 1982, when they moved into Manning. In the fall of 1997, Lester and Irene moved to the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.
On January 11, 1998, Irene died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center following a lengthy illness. She reached the age of 85 years, 2 months, and 4 days.
Irene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ladies Guild, Lutheran Laymen's League, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was a 43-year member of the Happy Hour Club. Irene enjoyed quilting, playing cards, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a living wife, mother and grandmother.
Besides her parents, Irene was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Travis and Norma Phipps; a brother, Milo Meggers; and a granddaughter, Robin Koepke.
She is survived by her husband, Lester Genzen, of Manning; five children: Phyllis and her husband, Robert Hagge of Westside; Daryl Genzen and his wife, Diane of Manning; Joycelyn and her husband, Roger Koepke, of St. Louis, Missouri; Beverly and her husband, Larry Beckman, of Odebolt; and Royce Genzen and his wife, Nancy, of Montclair, California; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Meggers and his wife, June, of Lincoln, Nebraska; a sister, Eldora and her husband, Walter Ketelsen, of Charter Oak; and by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Services were held Wednesday, January 14, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa with Pastor Daniel Vogel officiating. Organist Fern Jensen provided the music for hymns "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", "How Great Thou Art" and "Beautiful Savior". Interment was in the Manning Cemetery with all of Irene's grandchildren as casketbearers. The Ohde Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Irene (Boehm) Clausen (1917 - 1993)
Irene Clausen was born on September 23, 1917, the daughter of Ludwig and Christina Krabbenhoft Boehm. She died at her home in Schleswig, Iowa on Tuesday, July 13, 1993 at the age of seventy-five years.Irene was born on a farm in Hanover Township where she lived with her parents. She was baptized a Christian and later confirmed on March 29, 1931 at the Friedens Reformed Church in Schleswig. As a young girl, Irene received her education at a rural school near her home. After completing her education, she remained on the farm and helped her family.
On January 27, 1937, Irene was united in marriage to Paul Clausen at Friedens Parsonage in Schleswig by Rev. A.F. Rinne. The couple settled on a farm near Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of two children. They farmed until July of 1982 when the couple retired and moved to Schleswig. Irene was a loving wife, caring mother and grandmother. She loved to sew and cook. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig and the United Church of Christ Women's Guild.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include: her husband, Paul of Schleswig; one son, Delbert Clausen and his wife, Frances of Schleswig and one daughter Arlis Neddermeyer and her husband, Edward of Schleswig. Also six grandchildren, Kim Kragel and her husband, Neil of Schleswig, Trent Clausen and his wife, Shari of Charter Oak, Stephanie Clausen of Schleswig, Andrea Berka and her husband, Douglas of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Melissa Keeney and her husband, Tim of Indianapolis, Indiana and Colin Neddermeyer of Denison and four great-grandchildren, Clinton and Adam Kragel of Schleswig and Lauren and Charles Berka of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; one brother, Walter Boehm and his wife, Helen of Denison; three brothers-in-law, Herbert Clausen and his wife, Sylvia, Andrew Clausen and his wife, Bernice, Leonard Clausen and his wife, Mildred, and two sisters-in-law, Freida Else and Anna Teut and her husband, Lenhardt all of Schleswig.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 16, 1993 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. James Schatz officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Rubie Kastner singing "Amazing Grace" and "Beyond the Sunset". Honorary Pallbearers were: Melissa Keenye, Andrea Berka, Shari Clausen and Kim Kragel. Pallbearers were: Stephanie Clausen, Colin Neddermeyer, Trent Clausen, Douglas Berka, Tim Keeney and Neil Kragel. The Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Schleswig were in charge of arrangements.

Irene Elizabeth (Boyens) Jensen (1918 - 2003)
Irene Elizabeth Jensen was born September 23, 1918, the daughter of Lorenz and Wilhemina Ladwig Boyens. She died Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at her home in Ricketts, Iowa at the age of eighty-four.Irene was born in Goodrich Township near Denison, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on November 3, 1918 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Frese. At the age of four she moved with her family to a farm east of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. There Irene attended parochial school through the eighth grade and as confirmed on March 30, 1932, also at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
In 1943, Irene was united in marriage to Meinert Jensen at Tampa, Florida and spent four years there while Meinert was in the Army Air Corp during World War II. In 1947, they moved back to Ricketts, Iowa, where they owned a trucking business. The couple were blessed with two daughters, Zeone and Michele. Irene worked in various homes and cafes in her earlier years. She later worked for the Schleswig-Ricketts School as a cook and janitor for nineteen years before retiring.
Irene was a devout member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts. She was also a member of St. Luke's Ladies Aid and LLL. She was active in many organizations including the Ricketts, 3930 Auxiliary, The Golden Club and Senior Citizens. In her leisure time, Irene enjoyed making quilts as wedding gifts for her family and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1978, a grandson, Scott Gloede, one sister, Viola Jess and one brother Raymond Boyens Sr. Survivors include two daughters, Zeone DeMarrais and her husband Steve of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Michelle Phillips and her husband, Bob of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Christine DeMarrais, Jason DeMarrais, Andrea Sandy and Chad Gloede and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Sandy, Scott Gloede Offutt, Briar Swagger and Kassidy DeMarrais; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 25, 2003 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernst officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Marlene Lee provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Bambi Schrader singing "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound" and congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But a Stranger Here". Those serving as honorary Pallbearers were: Jason DeMarrais, Chris DeMarrais, Andrea Sandy and Chad Gloede. Pallbearers were: Raymond Boyens Jr., Barbara Van Horn, Jerrie Lynn Wigg, Susan Sievers, Carol Domino and Julie Teut. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Irene Louise (Lueth) Grage (1915 - 1998)
Irene Louise, daughter of William F. and Ida Arndt Lueth, was born September 21, 1915 on a farm near Manilla in Crawford County, Iowa. Irene attended school in Manilla and graduated from Manilla High School in 1933. After completing her schooling she worked for Kerr's Dry Goods and Calvin's Grocery Store.On February 16, 1939, Irene was united in marriage with Floyd L. Grage in Denison, three children were born to this union. Irene was a homemaker and she and Floyd owned and operated Grage Elevator and Trucking Company for many years in Manilla. In 1958 they purchased a farm and added that to their busy lives. In 1978 they both retired. Floyd died May 28, 1988.
Irene was a member of the Home Community Club, volunteered at the Manilla Manor and helped at the polls on election days. She also helped her daughter Marilyn care for Becca and Nate Wall and Kristen and Jared Vollstedt. She enjoyed being with and going out to eat with her friends and was interested in politics and current events. Gardening, Flowers and birds were also among her many interests. Above all she enjoyed being with her grandchildren who benefited greatly from time spent with their grandparents.
On Monday, October 12, 1998, Irene died unexpectedly in her home in Manilla. She reached the age of 83 years and 21 days.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son Johnny, in infancy, and three brothers: LeRoy Lueth; Waldon Lueth; and Vernon Lueth.
Irene is survived by two daughters, Marlys and her husband Ed Schram of Santa Barbara, Ca., and Marilyn and her husband William Miller of Manilla; five grandchildren: Kristin Schram and Kourtney James of Santa Barbara, California; Eddy Schram and his wife Jaynie of San Diego, California, Shane Miller of Iowa City; and Morgan Miller of Manilla; one sister Arlene and her husband Amos Justice of Carroll; two sisters-in-law, Arlyne Lueth and Elenora Macumber of Manilla; one brother-in-law Kenneth Grage of Manilla; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation was held Wednesday, October 14, 1998 at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 15, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla. Officiating at the service was Rev. Kenneth Ritchie of United Church of Manilla. Music was provided by vocalists Louise and Bill Ahrenholtz with Paulette Rasmussen as organist. Casket bearers were Shane Miller, Morgan Miller, Eddy Schram, Kristin Schram, Kourtney James and Steve Volstedt. Interment was at Nishnabotna Cemetery in Manilla, Iowa. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for lunch and fellowship at the Firemen's Hall. The Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla was in charge of arrangements.

Irma Marie (Stier) Kruse (1913 - 2001)
Irma Marie Kruse was born July 13, 1913, the daughter of Adolph and Marie Johannsen Stier. She died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa at the age of eighty-seven.Irma was born on a farm in Soldier Township, near Ricketts, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on October 12, 1913 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township and later confirmed there on March 24, 1929. She received her formal education in the country schools and Immanuel Lutheran School, Soldier Township. After completing her education, Irma helped as needed for families in the area.
On June 8, 1941, Irma was united in marriage to Raymond Kruse at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig by Rev. E. Schwidder. The couple made their home in Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of two children.
Irma was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, where she enjoyed quilting and attending Bible Study. She was also a member of Immanuel Ladies Aid, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Senior Center and several card clubs. Irma loved crocheting, sewing, crafts and her involvement with the V.F.W. Auxiliary as Historian.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond in 1973, one son-in-law, Keith Brockshus, three brothers, Harvey, Herbert and Alvin Stier, two sisters, Carmen Keim and Mildred Marquardt. Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Van Kley and her husband, Curt

Irvin August William Harm (1918 - 1998)
Irvin August William Harm was born June 20, 1918, the son of William and Minnie Kunze Harm. He died on Tuesday, February 10. 1998 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital.Irvin was born on the family farm northwest of Denison. He was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on August 18, 1918 and confirmed April 9, 1933 by Rev. Wm. Frese. He received his education at Goodrich #8 near his home. After completing his education he began a lifetime career f farming on the family farm. He entered the armed forces on March 2, 1942 and was discharged on December 24, 1945.
Irvin was united in marriage to Marlan Kastner at Zion Lutheran Church at Jacksonville, Florida. After his service career, the couple settled on the home farm and were blessed with the birth of seven children. In 1957, he expanded his farming operation moving to Hanover Township, near Schleswig.
Irvin semi-retired from farming in the eighties, moving to Denison in 1981. He was a kind and loving husband and father who enjoyed his family, grandchildren, farming, livestock and collecting antiques.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, infant daughter Cheryloleen and Carlan Mae, two sons, Darwin and Rick, two brothers, Wilbur and Bob and infant sister, Irma.
Survivors include his wife, Marlan of Denison, son Irvin Jr. of Denison, two daughters, Coleen Bruhn and husband Dennis of Schleswig and Rhonda Wessel and husband Dale of Denison, eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and three sisters-in-law, Anna Harm of Denison, Norma Rehan of Sioux City and Shirley Kastner of Kiron.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Maxwell Funeral Home in Denison. The family will be at the funeral home, Sunday evening from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Ivan Ralph Genzen (1915 - 2001)
Ivan Ralph, son of Max Albert and Bertha Grimm Genzen, was born June 26, 1915, on a farm near manning in Carroll County, Iowa. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning on August 19, 1915. He attended country schools near his home and Manning High School. Following his schooling, Ivan farmed near Manning. On March 29, 1931, Ivan was confirmed, also at Zion Lutheran Church.On December 1, 1939, Ivan was united in marriage with Irene Anna Schultz in Denison. Three children were born to this union. Ivan and Irene farmed near Odebolt and Manning before settling of a farm northeast of Manilla. In 1985 they retired and moved into Manillla.
Ivan was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla and enjoyed woodworking and playing cards. He served on various boards including the Manilla Manor for 15 years.
Ivan entered Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa the day before he died there Thursday, November 29, 2001, at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 4 days.
Besides his parents, Ivan was preceded in death by four brothers: Arthur, Elmer, Robert and Lester Genzen; a brother-in-law Delbert Vinke; and a sister-in-law Irene Genzen.

Harvey Magnus Rusch (1911 - 2001)
Harvey Magnus Rusch was born on a farm in Morgan Township, Schleswig, Iowa, March 23, 1911, the son of Christian and Minnie Claussen Rusch. He was baptized and confirmed at Friedens Evangelical Reformed Church in Schleswig. Harvey was raised on the farm and received his education in the rural schools. Following his schooling he was employed for area farmers.On September 25, 1934, Harvey was united in marriage with Helma Margaret Laumbach at Elk Point, South Dakota. Their union was blessed with five children, Beverly, Merlin, Lois May, Larry and Janice. They farmed in Crawford and Ida Counties moving to their Paradise Township farm in 1957. After their retirement from farming in 1980 they moved to Denison.
In his earlier years when health permitted Harvey enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing both cards and pool, playing his accordion for dancing parties, dancing and square dancing. In later years he enjoyed listening to polka music and reading westerns. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Izaak Walton League and, in years past, a member of the C. B. Club. Due to failing health Harvey and Helma moved to Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, Iowa, March 16, 1995.
Helma died July 12, 2000 and Harvey continued to· reside at Twilight Acres enjoying visits from his family and friends.
Harvey died Monday afternoon, January 29, 2001 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 89 years, 10 months and 6 days.
Including his parents and wife of over 65 years, Harvey was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois May Rusch, two sons, Larry and Merlin Rusch, two granddaughters, Jean Ann Rusch and Tammy Wunschel, one great-grandson, Jeff Dixon and one brother, Edwin Rusch.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include two daughters and their husbands, Beverly and Duane Wunschel of Wall Lake, Iowa and Jan and Ray Harris of White Hall, Arkansas, one daughter-in-law, Theonne Rusch Kolls of LaQuinta, California, six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one brother, Elmer Rusch and wife, Mildred of Denison, two sisters-in-law, Gladys Rusch of Schleswig and Martha Booth of Fort Pierre, South Dakota, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services· were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 2, 2001 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and the Rev. David M. Sewing officiating. Music for the service included Larry Boeck serving as soloist singing "Old Rugged Cross" and the congregation singing "Rock Of Ages, Cleft For Me" and "Let Us Ever Walk With Jesus" with Karen Kahl serving as organist. Casket bearers were Russell Bennigsdorf, Chris Mumm, Ross Rusch, Roger Rusch, Michael Nollen, Randy Nollen and Rick Wunschel. Interment was at the Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Hattie (Preul) Hagemann (1910 - 1982)
Hattie Hagemann was born on Dec. 30, 1910 at Charter Oak, the daughter of August and Fannie Peters Preul. She died July 16, 1982 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, at the age of 71.Hattie was raised on a farm in the Charter Oak and Ricketts communities. She received her formal education in the rural schools near her home. Hattie was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On Sept. 22, 1929, Hattie was united in marriage to Arnold Hagemann at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Together they made their home in Ricketts later moving to a farm where they made their home for several years. Hattie operated Hagemann Grocery in Ricketts for 20 years before her retirement, with her husband. Less than two months ago, Mr. Hagemann died.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Hattie was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Survivors include, one daughter, LaVonne (Mrs. Don) Hulsebus of Defiance, four grandchildren, Dean, Linda, Carol and Lori, eleven great-grandchildren, three brothers, Henry Preul of Denison, Ed Preul of Charter Oak and Louie Preul of Denison and two sisters, Mrs. Lena Sander of Charter Oak and Ella (Mrs. Walter) Steckelberg of Denison.
Funeral services were held July 19 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover Township. Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery. The Rev. E.E. Greene officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Allan Hagemann, Kenneth Paup, Norman Schoenfeld, Ardelbert Preul, Dennis Schmidt and Gene Henningsen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Charter Oak.

Hazel A. DeWees, 88, died at the Meth-Wick Community on Saturday, January 17, 2004, after a long illness. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at First Christian Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Dr. James Chesnutt and the Rev. Pamela Holt will officiate the service. Family graveside services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Sheldon A. DeWees in 1979, and also by three sisters: Evelyn Holdsworth, Beulah Olson and Ruth McKinney.
The daughter of Arthur G. and Theresa Sykes Drake, Hazel was born February 5, 1915 in Manilla, Iowa. She graduated from Manilla High School in 1934, Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, in 1936, and subsequently taught in a one-room school before moving to Cedar Rapids. Hazel married Shelly DeWees on May 1, 1943 in Kahoka, Missouri. She was a homemaker, and belonged to First Christian Church and the OptiMrs Club. Memorial donations may be made to Amenity Hospice or First Christian Church. Per Hazel's request, the casket will be closed at all times.

Hazel Emma (Vogt) Hintz (1915 - 2005)
Hazel Emma Hintz was born January 20, 1915, the daughter of John and Mary Blunk Vogt. She died at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, Friday, May 27, 2005, at the age of ninety. Hazel was born on a farm near Denison where she grew up. She received her education in a rural school near her home. After completing her education, Hazel helped her family on the farm.On August 2, 1941, Hazel was united in marriage to Vern Hintz in Fremont, Nebraska. The couple settled on the family farm and were blessed with the birth of one son.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cared for her family with devotion. While she and Vern were farming, Hazel worked with him as a devoted wife and help mate. In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening and· caring for her flowers. The couple enjoyed socializing with family and friends over a game of cards and in later years, she enjoyed Bingo. Most of all, that which she cherished the most was her family. Hazel was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, having been baptized April 2, 1916 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, Charter Oak and confirmed on April 14, 1935 at St. John Lutheran Church; Charter Oak. She was also a member of Zion's Evening Guild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Vern in 1996; son, Verdell in 1999; three brothers, Jack, Herbie and Hans Henry Vogt and one sister, Mildred Plagge.
Survivors include: her daughter-in-law, Judy Hintz; three grandchildren, Theresa Blum and her fiancé, Greg Hawley of Denison; Scott Hintz and his wife, Marilyn of Carlisle, Iowa; Patty Holihan and her husband, Vince of Deloit; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen·Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Beth Vogt singing "The Lord's Prayer" and congregational hymns "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Just As I Am, Without One Plea." Those serving as pallbearers were: Myron Plagge, Brian Plagge, Terry Vogt, Mike Vogt, Rick Vogt and Dan Riley. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Evening Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Hazel Julia (Carlson) Petersen (1913 - 1994)
Hazel Julia Petersen was born July 21, 1913, the daughter of Frank and Julia Law Carlson. She died at the Eventide Lutheran Home on Thursday, January 27, 1994 at the age of eighty years.Hazel was born on a farm near Pocahontas, Iowa and received her formal education there, graduating in 1931 from the Pocahontas High School and subsequently continuing her education at the University of Northern Iowa in 1937 and graduating from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake with the class of 1965, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree.
On June 28, 1939, Hazel was united in marriage to Walter Petersen. The couple settled in Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of two sons. Hazel's professional teaching career began in Pocahontas where she taught for two years. The remaining thirty-four years of her teaching career was in Schleswig where she retired in May of 1976.
She was a founding member of the local library board; a lifetime member of the National Education Association of Iowa; the Teachers Associated Lutheran Church Library; and the Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Aid. In July of 1989; the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Hazel enjoyed knitting, bridge, reading, canvas painting and golfing; and for the past seventeen years, wintered in Alamo, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister. Survivors include her husband, Walter of Schleswig; two sons, Robert of Ames and Roger of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and one brother, Curtis Carlson and his wife, Neva of Pocahontas.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 29, 1994 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig with Rev. Donald Wagner officiating the service and graveside rites at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Charles Johnson singing "Nearer, My God, to Thee", "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and "Be Still, My Soul." Pallbearers were: Craig Johannsen, Leroy Fredericks, Leon Clausen, William Aldag, Dennis Bruhn and Doug Lyon. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them for lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Hazel Mae (Calvin) Holmes (1918 - 2000)
Hazel Mae, daughter of Harold James and Leeta Mae Saylor Calvin, was born August 28, 1918, in Ute, Iowa. She attended school in Manilla, graduating in 1936. Hazel then attended beauty operator school in Omaha, Nebraska, subsequently working out of her parents' home in Manilla.On April 16, 1941, Hazel was united in marriage with Kimble Dee Holmes at Denison, Iowa. One son, Gregory was born to this union. During World War II, Hazel continued to work as a beauty operator while Dee served overseas. Following Dee's return from the service, they moved to the farm north of Manilla. Hazel remained at home to care for Gregory and sold Avon for a few years. In 1982 they moved into Manilla.
Hazel was a member of the United Church of Manilla, and previously taught Sunday school in the Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing piano, craftwork, animals, tending to her flower garden, fishing and dancing. In February of 2000, Hazel and Dee became residents of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in Manilla where Hazel died Sunday, March 19, 2000. She reached the age of 81 years, 6 months and 20 days.
Besides her parents, Hazel is preceded in death by a brother James Calvin. She is survived by her husband Dee Holmes of Manilla; a son Gregory Sam Holmes and his wife Barbara Ann of Denison; a granddaughter Suzanne Holmes-Bunde and her husband Chris Bunde of Guthrie Center; a grandson Jon Holmes of Sioux City; a sister-in-law Peggy Calvin of Lincoln, Nebraska; a brother-in-law Neal Holmes of Denison; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on March 22, 2000 at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla, Iowa. Pastor Brian Sherman of the United Church of Manilla in Manilla, Iowa officiated the service and interment held at the Nisnabotna Cemetery in Manilla, Iowa. Organist Donna Muller was accompanied by vocalists Jo Muller and Tim Muller for the service music. Casket bearers were Jon Holmes, Christopher Bunde, Randall Ahrenholtz, Flint Calvin, Marvin Vennink, and Dennis Christensen. Honorary Casket bearers were Ray Saunders, Bill Lohrmann, Elmer Wageman, Harold Benge, Karl Mahnke, and Hal Cadwell.

Helen Caroline (Grell) Lambert (1917 - 2000)
Helen Caroline Lambert was born February 26, 1917 the daughter of John and Amanda Lafrentz Grell. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, Friday, March 24, 2000 at the age of eighty-three.Helen was born on a farm near Dow City and attended rural schools in Goodrich and Paradise Townships. She was baptized in Christ as an infant, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. After completing her education, Helen helped her family at home and also helped at the neighboring Nolan family as needed.
December 7, 1935, Helen was united in marriage to Winfred (Jack) Lambert at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison. The couple settled on a farm near Dow City and were blessed with the birth of eight children. After retiring from farming, the couple moved to Dow City. Helen moved to Denison in 1998.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed caring for her family, and particularly, her grandchildren. She was a caring person to all families in her community and was happiest helping others with her inspiring love. In her leisure time, Helen enjoyed her flower garden and was involved with many church activities, including taking care of the flowers at church. Helen was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City, their Ladies Aid Organization and the Unusual Club where she socialized with friends in the community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack in 1985 and one daughter Janice Lee in infancy; one grandson, Mark; three brothers, Fritz, John and Walter Grell and one sister, Lydia Whitrock.
Survivors include: three sons, Winfred (Jackie) Lambert and his wife Audrey of Sioux City; Larry and his wife, Debbie of Seal Beach, California; Dennis and his fiancé Joni of Harlan; four daughters, Delores Brotherson and her husband Howard of Wall Lake; Kathy Morrow and her husband, James of Roswell, New Mexico; Eileen Paulson and her husband, Don of Exira; Judy Deiber and her husband, Terry of Denison; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren; and one brother Richard Grell and his wife Donna. One sister-in-law, Wiladean Grell of Deloit; and one brother-in-law Delbert Whitrock of Lake Park, Iowa.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Monday, March 27, 2000 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City. Rev. Larry Lemke officiated the services and graveside rites held at the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City. Renita Laubscher provided the organ accompaniment for soloist Rev. Larry Lemke as he sang "Just as I Am, Without One Plea" and for congregational hymns "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I'm But a Stranger Here". Those serving as honorary pallbearers were: Daren Lambert, Stan Lambert, Steven Lambert and Sean Lambert. Those serving as pallbearers were: David Brotherson, Dean Grell, Dan Deiber, Jeff Brotherson, Derek Lambert and Scott Lambert. The family invited everyone in attendance to the Dow City Community Building to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. Helen (Van Arsdol) Dodge (1913 - 1996)
Helen Dodge was born June 17, 1913, the daughter of Harvey and Irene Jessie Myer Van Arsdol. She died at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on Tuesday, July 9, 1996, at the age of eighty-three.Helen was born near Woodbine, Iowa and received her education in the Woodbine Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1931. After high school, she continued her education in the local Normal school and subsequently began her teaching career in rural schools in Harrison County.
In August of 1932, she was united in marriage to Urban Adamson in Haden, Nebraska. The couple settled in Harrison County and were blessed with the birth of four children. During WWII, Helen was employed by the Civil Service and worked out of the Council Bluffs, Iowa and Hastings, Nebraska offices. From 1952 to 1957, she owned and operated a restaurant in Schleswig before returning to teaching in Manning and Denison. Helen continued her education at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, graduating there in 1964 and returning to Denison where she taught in the Denison Community School System.
On March 21, 1970, Helen was united in marriage to Donald Dodge at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home on a farm north of Denison. In 1978, Helen retired from her teaching career and devoted her efforts to managing the family farm. In her leisure time, she enjoyed quilting and gardening in both her vegetable and flower gardens, and enjoyed socializing with family and friends in a challenging game of pinochle. She was a devoted mother who reared her family with a spirit of conviction and pride, and cared for those she loved with diligence. Helen was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the United Methodist Church in Denison, and a member of the Methodist Church Quilters.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, Urban and Don. Survivors include: three daughters, Virgie Henningsen and her husband Henry of Denison; E. Verle Weiss and her husband, Ron of Lake Manawa, Iowa; Vivien Willis and her husband, Jerry of Holden, Missouri; one son, Terry Lee Adamson and his wife, Beverly of Tampico, Illinois; two stepdaughters, Ann Winans of Vinton, Iowa; Ruth Lame and her husband, Ken of Salt Lake City, Utah; one step-son, John Dodge and his wife, Lois of Ellsworth, Wisconsin; nineteen grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Caldwell of Dunlap and two sisters-in-law, Mary Van Arsdol of Arlon and Nevah Van Arsdol of Kersey; Colorado; a special cousin, Dixie Johnson of Odebolt, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 12, 1996 at the United Methodist Church in Denison, Iowa. Dr. Edward Peterson officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Henry Henningsen singing "On Eagle's Wings" and "In the Garden" and congregational hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Those serving as honorary pallbearers were: Terry Lee Adamson and Gavin North. Pallbearers were: Dr. Denton Weiss, Troy Losh North, Jared Adamson, Aaron Adamson, David Weiss and Blake Deiber. Helen Evelyn (Boeck) Kracht (1915 - 2004)
Helen Evelyn Kracht was born June 2, 1915, the daughter of Herman and Minnie Amanda Blunk Boeck. She died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at the Denison Care Center, at the age of eighty-nine.Helen was born near Manilla, Iowa and was baptized in Christ, October 9, 1916 at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison and also confirmed at Zion on January 15, 1935. She received her education at the Denison Community Schools, graduating from the Denison High School with the class of 1932.
On March 26, 1932, Helen was united in marriage to Orval (Sam) Kracht at Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple made their home in East Boyer Township for a few years before moving to Denison. The couple was blessed with the birth of six children.
Helen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and a charter member of their Dorcas Society. Helen and Sam enjoyed riding motorcycles and traveling to every state with the air stream mobile home and spending winters in Donna, Texas. She was a proud and charming lady who enjoyed reading, sewing and socializing over a cup of coffee and discussing politics. She also enjoyed flower gardening from which she made elegant flower arrangements, including some she entered in competition at the Crawford County Fair. Helen was also instrumental in starting the first group for the visually impaired in the Denison area.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam in 1992; one son, Richard; one great-granddaughter, Jennifer Wulf; and five brothers, Ralph in infancy, Robert, Jack, Oliver and Ben Boeck.
Survivors include one son, Stan Kracht of Denison; four daughters, Peggy Magden and her husband, Jim of Venice, Florida; Roberta Borkowski and her husband, Gene of Irwin; Sandra Brownlee and her husband, Jerry of Ida Grove; Marsha Kracht of Denison; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; many other relatives and friends.

Helen E. (Jensen) Wiegel (1919 - 1993)
Helen E. Wiegel was born on May 16, 1919, the daughter of Paul and Amelia Christiansen Jensen. She died on Saturday, September 4, 1993 at the Jenny Edmundsen Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of seventy-four years.Helen was born on a farm in Paradise Township where she lived with her parents. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak and received her education in rural schools near her home. After completing her education she helped on the family farm.
On September 20, 1938 she was united in marriage to Raymond A. Wiegel of Charter Oak at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison by Rev. C.W. Schmidt. The couple settled on a farm northeast of Charter Oak and lived there several years and subsequently moved to a farm south of town. In 1967 the couple purchased a service station and moved to Charter Oak. Helen was employed as a cook at Margaret's Cafe in Ute, Jo Mart Steak House, and Cronk's Restaurant in Denison. She was a loving wife and caring mother and grandmother. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Charter Oak Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond; two brothers, Meinert and Herbert Jensen. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Van Horn and her husband, Jake of Ankeny; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Schwarz of Des Moines, Janet McLaughlin and her husband, Kevin of Ankeny; Laura Van Horn of West Des Moines; Rick Van Horn of San Diego, California; also two great-grandchildren, Christopher John Van Horn of Orlando, Florida and Kelsey Rae McLaughlin; and one brother, Carl Jensen and his wife, Mae of Omaha, Nebraska.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 1993 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. L.C. Gebhardt officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Angela Gebhardt provided the organ accompaniment for the St. John's Ladies Choir singing "Just as I Am, Without One Plea" and "Asleep in Jesus! Blessed Sleep" and congregational hymn "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me." Pallbearers were: Gary Christiansen, Paul Laubscher, Roger Steffen, Allen Gloede, Larry Wiegel and Gary Wiegel. The Walter A.
