Minnie Henrietta Vogt (1904 - 1980 )
Minnie Henrietta Vogt was born on June 25, 1904 near Denison, Iowa in Paradise Township, the daughter of Emil and Helena Fredericks Vogt. She died Aug. 16, 1980 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, at the age of 76.Minnie was raised on a family farm. She received her formal education in the rural schools near her home. She made her home with her family where she cared for her mother until her death. Later she continued making her home on the farm. After her father's death she moved with her sister in December of 1971 to Denison where she has since continued to make her home.
In addition to her parents, Minnie was preceded in death by her sister Edna in 1972.
Survivors include, one sister, Elizabeth, Mrs. Henry Kolls, one nephew, Henry Kolls, Jr. and his wife Marsha and one great neice (sic), Barbara Kolls, all of Denison. Also by a number of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at the Huebner Funeral Home, Denison, the Rev. John Lutze officiated at the services. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery at Denison. Pallbearers were Verdell Hintz, Don Eggert, Gaylord Moeller, Jim Fredericks Ray Fredericks and Dan Greder. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Esther Marie (Dethlefs) Nemitz (1912 - 1987 )
Esther Marie Nemitz was born on January 28, 1912 at Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Henry Dethlefs and Mary Walderich Dethlefs. She died on July 8, 1987 at Mercy Care Center in Omaha, Neb. at the age of 75 years.Esther was baptized on April 14, 1912 and confirmed on April 5, 1925 in the Lutheran Church. She attended rural schools near Soldier, Ia.
On November 7, 1934, Esther and Fred C. Nemitz of Charter Oak, were married at Elk Point, So. Dak. To this union eight children were born. They made their home on farms near Charter Oak, moving to Denison in 1937. Esther was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, on November 18, 1975, her parents and one brother, Henry Dethlefs.
She is survived by her children: Dorothy and her husband, Earl Dozler of Denison, Fred and his wife, Geri Nemitz of Denison, Carolyn and her husband, Dick Lorenzen of Deloit, Robert and his wife, Ruby Nemitz of Schuyler, Neb., Donald and his wife, Sandi Nemitz of Denison, Mary and her husband, Ronald Zeimen of Denison, Barbara and her husband, Donald Kahl of Dow City, and David and his wife, Janice Nemitz of Denison, thirty-one grandchildren and three great grandchildren; her brother Walter and his wife, Grace Dethlefs of Warsaw, Mo.; sisters Marie and her husband, Clarence Etchison of Sioux City, Louise and her husband, Howard Ferris of Onawa, Clara and her husband, Raymond Walde of Denison, Ella and her husband, Leo Fester of Ute; and sister in law, Mrs. Joyce Dethlefs of Sioux City.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens near Denison. Reverend Kurt Kaiser officiated. Mrs. Darold Kahl served as organist for Henry Henningsen as soloist. Selections were "Abide With Me" and "My Hope is Built on Nothing Less." Honorary pallbearers were Brian Zeimen, Shane Zeimen, Chris Nemitz, Alan Nemitz, Rick Nemitz, Scott Nemitz, Todd Nemitz, Jerad Young and Bob Iversen. Serving as pallbearers were Gary Dozler, Rick Lorenzen, Jeff Nemitz, Dennis Kahl, Mike Cook and Jeff Frank. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Roy Peter Voss (1907 - before 1968 )
Roy Peter Voss, son of Ernest Voss and Rosa (Rath) Voss, was born May 8, 1907 and died at the Cherry Lawn Nursing home Sioux City on Aug. 6. He had been a patient in the Denison hospital in July and later at the State University hospital in Iowa City.He spent most of his life in the state of Minnesota. In recent months, he lived in the Ed Paulsen home near Correctionville. He was baptized in infancy and became a member of the Lutheran church in 1957 by rite of confirmation.
Funeral services were held at the Sinn Funeral home in Schleswig Aug. 9 with the Rev. Carl W. Schmidt officiating. Interment was made in the Morgan Township cemetery.
His death is survived by. the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Emma Atzen of Round Lake, Minn., Mrs. Rosie Jurgensen of Denison,. Mrs. Ella Namanny of Lake Park, Mrs. Lill Boeck, Chris, John and Ernest Voss of Denison, Paul Voss of Schleswig and Emil Voss of Manning.
Three brothers, Martin, Fred and Edward Voss, and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Atzen, Mrs. Bertha Atzen and Mrs. Minnie Paulsen and a sister, who died infancy, preceded him in death.

Ethel Elsie (Kroeger) Mundt (1918 - 1963 )
Ethel Elsie Dora Mundt, daughter of William and Katie Kroeger, was born on May 14, 1918, in Soldier township. In infancy she was baptized by Pastor Frese of Zion Lutheran church in Denison. She grew up in the Ricketts community.On Nov. 16, 1939, she was united in marriage to Hermann Mundt. The couple farmed in the Ricketts neighborhood. Ethel Mundt has not been too well the past year and was operated on in the fall of 1962. She entered the hospital at Denison on Jan 1, 1963 and died on the afternoon of Jan. 5.
She is survived by her husband, Hermann, of Charter Oak; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Kroeger of Ricketts, two brothers, Pete of Cedar Falls and Arlo of Denison and one sister, Debris, wife of Iven Ewoldt of Ricketts.
She has been a member of St. Luke's, Ricketts, since her confirmation in May 1959 and held membership in the Ladies Aid. She attained unto 44 years, 7 months and 21 days.
Funeral services were held Jan. 8 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran church in Ricketts. Rev. Frederick Wiese officiated. Pallbearers were Walter Bugge, Arthur Krueger, Kermit Teut, Martin Flanigan, Gehart Langholdt and Lenhardt Teut. Interment was made in the Garden of the Good Shepherd in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison.

Chris Frederick Voss (1888 - 1968 )
Chris Voss passed away at the Memorial Hospital on Saturday morning, Sept. 26. He had been taken to the hospital on Sept. 25.Chris Frederick Voss, son of Ernest and Rosa (Roth) Voss, was born Sept. 7, 1888 in Goodrich Township, Crawford County. In early infancy he was baptized and later confirmed into the Zion Lutheran Church. He remained a member of this church and was a voting member for many years.
He was married to Anna Arp on Feb.3, 1915 a marriage to which two children were born. Mrs. Voss died during the influenza epidemic in 1918. He was married to Minnie Boeck on Dec. 6, 1939. They lived on their farm home until retiring to live in Denison in 1939.
Funeral services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church on Sept. 28th with the Rev. C. W. Schmidt officiating. Hymns were sung by the Lutheran Ladies Choir with Mrs. Fred Rabe serving as organist. Interment was made in the Morgan Township Cemetery with the following serving as pall bearers: Virgil Boeck, William Luth, Erwin Voss, Gerald Jurgenson, Elmer Maak, Merlin Voss.
Surviving his death are the widow; one son, Marvin of Denison; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren; four brothers: John and Ernest of Denison, Emil of Manilla and Paul of Schleswig; four sisters; Mrs. Emma Atzen of Sioux City, Mrs. Rosa Jurgensen of Denison, Mrs. Lillie Boeck of Denison and Mrs. Ella Namanny of Lake Park. Four brothers and five sisters also preceeded (sic) him in death.

Francis Edgar Meseck (1945 - 1967 )
Funeral services were held for Francis E. Meseck at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig on Friday, November 17. Rev. F. A. Wiese and Rev. E. E. Greene officiated. Mrs. Ray Schmidt, organist, accompanied the choir who sang, "Nearer My God to Thee" and the congregation who sang "Rock of Ages".Francis Edgar, son of Edgar and Alvera nee Kroll. Meseck was born on December 26, 1945 at Ute. He was baptized as a child in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier, Township. He was confirmed in April of 1960 by Rev. E. E. Greene at the Soldier Township. He was an active member in Walther League and in church as a teenager and at the time of his death.
He grew up in Soldier Township and attended school in Charter Oak and Schleswig. He worked for Henry Bank until he entered the Army on October 4, 1965. He served in Germany for 18 months with the 7th Army. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 14, 1967, with the rank of Sgt. At the time of his death he was employed at Farmbest Inc. in Dension.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Meseck; two sisters, Linda, Mrs. Gary Reimer of South Dakota; Nancy at home; two brothers, Gary, in military service serving with the 630 Engineering Company in Vietnam and Arlen at home. Also survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kroll of Ricketts.
He died on Tuesday, November 14, 1967, due to an auto accident. He attained the age of 21 years, 10 months and 18 days.
Honorary pallbearers were Allan Arnold, Dennis Moeller, Curtis Schultz, Lynn Schroeder, Darryl Petersen and Arthur Krueger Jr. Military honors were by the VFW and American Legion. Interment was made in the Morgan Cemetery.

Frank Gustav Vogt (1914 - 1984 )
Frank Gustav Vogt was born on Jan. 7, 1914 at Denison, Iowa, the son of William and Selma Franke Vogt. He died on Saturday, Feb 4, 1984 at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Neb. at the age of 70.Frank was raised on a farm west of Denison. He received his education in the area schools. As an infant he was baptized and later he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Frank was united in marriage to Erma Edefy on March 8, 1940 in Denison. Together they made their first home on a farm near Denison. Later they moved to a farm near Charter Oak. In 1952 they moved from the farm into the Charter Oak community. For several years, Frank operated a service station. He later operated a heavy construction business until his retirement. After his wifes death in 1975, Frank continued to make his home in Charter Oak.
On April 9, 1977, Frank was united in marriage to Ida Petersen Eggert. They made their home in Charter Oak for a brief time before moving to Denison.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Frank was preceded in death by one brother Art Vogt.
Survivors include, his wife Ida of Denison, one son, Dr. Roger Vogt and his wife Holly of Fort Dodge, two grandchildren, Sean and Melandee, two step daughters, Nancy, Mrs. Larry Gessmann of Harlan and Coliss Long of Schribner, Neb. and four step grandsons. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Lula Gluesing of Culbertson, Mon., and Mrs. Hulda Coan of Freemont (sic), Neb. as well as a host of other realtives (sic) and friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 7, 1984 at 2:00 P.M. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Jack D. Heck officiated at the services. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist with Henry Henningsen as soloist. Hymns included, How Great Thou Art, Jesus Savior Pilot Me, and I'm But a Stranger Here. Serving as pallbearers were John Christiansen, Gene Kragel, Dennis Mesenbrink, Merle Mesenbrink, Howard Ehlers and Ladean Bechen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Hans Nihsen, 81, of Kiron passed away at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Thursday evening.Funeral services were held at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig on Monday morning, with burial in the Morgan Township Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon of Omaha and Gilbert of Charter Oak and one daughter, Mabel, Mrs. Ray Kollbaum of Kiron and one brother, Nick Nihsen of Minden and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Fred T. Voss (1891 - before 1968 )
Funeral services were held for Fred T. Voss on Tuesday, June 19 at the United Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m. The soloist, Mrs Don Meyer sang "Abide with Me" and "The Lord is My Shepherd" accompanied on the organ by Mrs John Evers. Rev. Walter Baumgartner officiated at the services reading the following obituary:Fred Voss was born on August 20, 1891 in Goodrich Township Crawford County. On June 2, 1918, he was married to Laura Groth. The couple lived in the Ricketts community until their retirement in Denison.
Two children were born to this union: Leonard and Mable. Mr Voss was a member of the United Church of Christ. He died in Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Sunday, June 17.
Surviving are: his wife, Laura, one son, Leonard of Walker, Iowa, one daughter, Mable, Mrs Wm. Luth, Charter Oak: ten grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs Emma Atzen, Round Lake, Minnesota; Bertha, Mrs Fred Atzen, Lake Park, Iowa; Chris Voss, Denison, Iowa; John Voss, Denison, Iowa; Rose, Mrs Herman Jurgensen, Denison; Ernest Voss, Denison; Paul Voss, Schleswig; Minnie, Mrs Eddie Paulsen, Correctionville, Iowa; Emil Voss, Manilla, Iowa; Ella, Mrs John Namanny, Lake Park, Iowa; Lill, Mrs Benton Boeck, Denison, Iowa; Roy Voss of Minnesota; and a host of other reatives (sic) and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 9 for Harry Miller at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. C. W. Pannier officiating.Harry Hans Miller was born January 22, 1886, in Crawford County to Hans and Doris Miller. He received his education in the public schools. In 1912 he was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith.
On March 5, 1913 he was united in marriage to Anna Abbe, the ceremony being held in Trinity Church, Grant Twp. To this union were born two daughters. The family lived on a local farm until 1944 when they moved to Schleswig.
Mr Miller held various offices in his church of which he was a faithful member. In 1963 Mr and and Mrs Miller observed their golden wedding anniversary.
Mr Miller passed away last Sunday night, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 14 days.
He was preceded in death by 5 brothers: Alfred, Charles, Willie, George and Walter; two sisters; Alvena and Edna and also two children in his parents family died in infancy.
Surviving are his widow, Anna; two daughters: Dorothy, Mrs Ben Korner of Schleswig and Elvera, Mrs Robert Laubengayer of Ann Arbor, Michigan; three sisters: Letty, Mrs Henry Hansen of Schleswig; Minnie, Mrs Herman Jannsen of Schleswig and Emma, Mrs Charles Kroph of Denison. Also surviving are three grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
Pallbearers were; Herbert Miller, Edwin Hargens, Allen Janssen, Edward Kropf, Alfred Stockfleth and Lenard Abbe. Internment was made in the Trinity Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Joe Telford of Edmond, Okla.; three daughters, Judy Feigel and Christy Medrano both of Oklahoma City, and Mary Hall of Bethany, Okla.; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Kroll of Omaha, Neb. and Elmer Kroll of Grand Island, Neb.; and one sister, Mildred Obrecht of Des Moines.

Andrew H. Thomsen (1907 - 1986 )
Andrew H. Thomsen was born on January 14, 1907 in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa the son of Andreas and Margaretha Albertsen Thomsen.He died Wednesday afternoon, March 5, 1986 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of seventy-nine years, one month and twenty-one days.
Andrew spent his childhood on his family's farm in Goodrich Township. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He received his formal education in the rural schools and received his confirmation instruction in the parochial school near his home.
Andrew was united in marriage to Ella Detlefsen on February 27, 1929 at the Zion Lutheran parsonage by Rev. William Frese. They made their home on a farm in Denison Township for a number of years. In 1936 they left the farm making their home in Denison.
Andrew entered the United States Navy on April 7, 1944. He was stationed in Farragut, Idaho and served on the U.S.S. Missoula during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on November 16, 1945 in Minneapolis, Minn.
Andrew returned to the Denison area following his military career. He was employed for a period of time by Bill Boyens as a truck driver and later worked for a period of time for Rudolph Brandt. He later was employed by the Denison Municipal Light Plant for eighteen years until retirement in 1966. Andrew and Ella made Denison their home during their retirement years. Andrew entered the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison in November of 1985.
Preceding Andrew in death was his parents. Survivors include his wife Ella of Denison, three sons, Donald of Cedar Rapids, Kenneth of Beaverton, Ore., and Loren of La Verne, Calif., and two daughters, Sharon, Mrs. Robert Petersen of Armstrong, and Carol, Mrs. Rick Rowedder of Des Moines. He is further survived by fourteen grand-children, six great grand-children, and four sisters, Sophie, Mrs. Earl Ransom, Mrs Pauline Denker, and Hertha, Mrs. Edward Evers all of Denison, and Mrs. Mag Signall of Long Beach, Calif., numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Anna Louis (Wiedemann) Teut (1881 - 1963 )
Anna Louis, daughter of Julius Wilhelmina Wiedemann, was born in Morgan Township, Crawford County on September 1, 1881. She died at the Crawford County Memorial hospital on Wednesday, May 15. She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran church, confirmed in 1895 at Trinity Lutheran church, Grant Township.On February 19, 1903, she was united in marriage to Herman Teut at Immanuel Lutheran church, Soldier Township. After their marriage they lived for 45 years on a farm three miles north of Ricketts. In 1948 the couple retired to the town of Ricketts.
She was preceded in death by one son Elmer, an infant daughter, Evelyn and her husband, Herman, who passed away in 1950.
She is survived by the following children: Melvin of Denison, Edna, wife of Marcus Wodtke of Charter Oak, Ralph of Ute, Arlo of Ida Grove, Herbert of Danbury, Kermit of Charter Oak, Ruby, wife of August Waderich of Mapleton, Waldo of Ricketts, Erna, wife of Gilbert Nihsen of Schleswig, Orvil of Oakdale, Raymond of Monticello and Everett of Omaha, 33 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. Three sisters: Mrs. Minnie Kuehl of Schleswig, Mrs. Floyd Cornish of Denison, Mrs. Larry Fitzpatrick of Las Vegas, Nev. Two brothers, John Wiedemann of Schleswig and Andre Bossen of Tampa, Fla. She attained to 81 years, 8 months and 14 days.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 18, at the St. Luke Lutheran church in Ricketts. Rev. F. A. Wiese officiated. Assisted by Mrs. Leo Bruhn at the organ.
Pallbearers: Eldon Teut, Gary Teut, Robert Beeck, Verdell Wodtke, Roger Teut, and Lowayne Nihsen. Interment was held at the Soldier Township Lutheran cemetery.

Mrs. Ray Schmidt, organist accompanied the choir who sang "Rock of Ages" and the congregation who sang "What a Friend We Have In Jesus."Carrie Thul, daughter of Michael Henrichsen and Patricia nee Moller was born on March 28, 1914 in Battle Creek. She grew up in the Ida Grove and Danbury communities.
On April 1, 1941, she was united into marriage to Emil Thul at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove with Pastor Pauling performing the ceremony. The couple made their home in Danbury, Ida Grove, and Schleswig communities. She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith as an adult in 1956 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Schleswig. She has been a member of this church since then.
She is survived by her husband, Emil, one daughter, Deloris and one grandson, Scott all of Ida Grove. Also survived by one sister Irna, wife of Walte Houle of Hugo, Minnesota.
She died at the Battle Creek Hospital on October 13 after a brief illness. She attained the age of 53 years, six. months and 15 days.
Pallbearers were, Ernie Grell, Art Welding Leslie Grell, Richard Bumann, Arnold Scherner, and Robert R. Bumann. Interment was made in the Battle Creek Cemetery.

Detlef Theedt (1902 - 1981 )
Detlef Theedt was born March 7, 1902 in Germany. He died Feb 2, 1981 at the Denison Care Center, Denison, at the age of 78.Detlef was raised and educated in Germany. He came to the United States as a teenager making his home in Crawford County.
On March 10, 1944, Detlef was united in marriage to Mary Johanna in Omaha, Neb. They made their home on a farm. Later after selling the farm, Detlef moved to Denison where he was employed as a carpenter for many years.
In addition to his parents, Detlef was preceded in death by two step-daughters one step-son and three brothers.
Survivors include, his wife Mary of Denison, one stepson William Ladwig of Denison, two stepdaughters, Anna, Mrs. Ervin Crouch of Cicero, Ind. and Helen, Mrs. Lewis Puck of Denison. Also by 53 grand and great grandchildren and two brothers, Claus and William, both of West Germany.
Funeral services were held on Feb. 5, at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. The Rev. Jack Heck of Zion Lutheran Church officiated at the services. Pallbearers included, Wayne Navotne, Leroy Jacobsen, Melvin Teut, Henry Brasse, Rudolph Schwitzer and Herman Quandt. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Dorothy Merle (Wonder) Thul (1920 - 1980 )
Dorothy Merle Thul was born on April 25, 1920, near Dunlap, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Lena Kixmiller Wonder. She died on Wednesday, September 24, 1980, at St. Joseph Hospital, Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 60.Dorothy was the youngest in a family of eleven children. She received her formal education in the schools near Danbury, a community where she spent most of her early years. Later she moved to Oregon making her home with her sister, Mrs. Herman Kahler.
On February 14, 1940, Dorothy was united in marriage to Helmut Thul at Mapleton, Iowa. They farmed near Danbury and later Schleswig where they made their home for many years.
Dorothy was employed at the Willow Dale Nursing Home at Battle Creek, Iowa, a position she has held for the past eight years, She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of the Highland Ladies Club.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Helmut in 1968, one son Larry, six brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include, one son Robert of Schleswig; four daughters, Sharon Gloede of Schleswig; Sheryl, Mrs. Leon Gosch of Schleswig; Lori Thul of Sioux City and Tami, Mrs, Steve Korner of Holstein. Emil Paul Martin Thul (1912 - 1981 )
Emil Paul Martin Thul was born on December 20, 1912 in Ida County, Iowa, the son of Otto and Emma Wuensche Thul Sr. He died on Friday, January 2, 1981 at the Crawford County Hospital, Denison, Iowa at the age of 68.Emil spent his early years on farms near Battle Creek and Ida Grove, Iowa, He was baptized and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church at Grant Township.
On April 1, 1941, Emil was united in marriage to Carrie Henrichsen at Ida Grove. They made their home in Danbury, Ida Grove and Schleswig communities. To this union was born a daughter Deloris. Carrie died in 1967.
On December 22, 1968, Emil was united in marriage to Luella Volkmann at Schleswig, Iowa. They made their home on a farm near Schleswig.
In addition to his father and his wife Carrie, Emil was preceded in death by two brothers, Helmut and Harry.
Survivors include, his wife Luella of Schleswig, one daughter Debris Dull of Omaha and one grandson, Scott and his mother Mrs. Otto Thul Sr. of Danbury, Iowa. Also by three brothers, Otto of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Henry of Storm Lake, and George of Danbury and two sisters, Agnes, Mrs. Leo Trieber and Elsie, Mrs. Johnny Dose both of Danbury.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 5, 1981 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Battle Creek. There was a prayer services held at the Huebner Funeral Home the evening before the funeral. The Rev. Fred Moore officiated at all of the services. Pallbearers included, Allan Schultz, Robert Thul, Robert Bumann, Richard Bumann, Ralph Reincke and Glen Dieber.

Emma Johanna (Carstens) Teut (1902 - 1981 )
Emma Johanna Teut was born on November 19, 1902 near Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Hans and Lina Lincke Carstens. She died early Monday morning, February 9, 1981 at Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, Iowa at the age of 78.Emma was raised on a family farm near Charter Oak. She received her formal education in St. John;s Lutheran School in Charter Oak. Emma was baptized as an infant and later during the years of her education, was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. After the death of her father, Emma moved with her mother and other members of the family to Charter Oak.
On May 3, 1922, Emma was united in marriage to Erwin Teut at Charter Oak. They made their home on a farm near Ricketts. After their retirement in 1946, they moved to Ricketts. Mr. Teut died in 1967 and since that time Emma has since continued to make Ricketts her home. Emma was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and a charter member of St. Luke's Ladies Aid.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Emma was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Conrad and one sister, Ella.
Survivors include, one son Donald Teut of Schleswig, one daughter, Dorothy, Mrs. Donald J. Clausen of Schleswig, nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one sister, Miss Bertha Carstens of Charter Oak.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 12, 1981 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. Vicar Richard Jordan officiated at the services. Grandsons serving as pallbearers were Deane Teut, Dennis Teut, Michael Merriman, Dennis Falline, John Lantz Jr., Bruce Paulsen and Irvin Zeiman.

Erwin Peter John Teut (1899 - 1967 )
Funeral services for Erwin Teut were held Saturday, July 8, at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church at Ricketts with Rev. F. A. Wiese officiating. Miss Carol Claussen was organist. Hymns by the congregation were "Abide With Me" and "Heaven Is My Home.'Erwin Peter John, son of Peter T. Teut and Sophia nee Boysen was born in Soldier Township on 9 October 1899. The family moved to Denison, when he was 8. He attended grade, High School, and business college in Denison. From 1917 to 1918 he was in the Armed Forces of our country.
On May 3, 1922 he was married to Emma Carstens by Pastor Amstein. The couple farmed 3 miles north of Ricketts. They moved to the town of Ricketts in 1948. Here he engaged in various businesses. He constructed and managed the bowling alleys, was in the feed and seed business, manager of the local telephone company, and manager of the local Co-op.
He was a life time member of the Lutheran Church. Baptized in Soldier Township Lutheran Church and confirmed in Denison Lutheran Church. He was one of the founders of St. Luke's of Ricketts and among the offices he held was trustee of the congregation.
Erwin had been ill around six weeks, and died at St. Joseph's Hospital at Sioux City on Thursday morning July the 6th.
He is survived by his widow Emma, two children: Donald of Charter Oak and Dorothy, wife of Donald Clausen of Schleswig, and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers. Albert and Otto, both of Schleswig and one sister Estella Hermicke of Holstein. He attained to 67 years, 8 months and 27 days.
Pallbearers were Lowell Carstens, Walter Holtorf, Gordon Nahnsen, Raymond Else, Alva Lill, Sr. and Lenhardt Teut. Interment was made in the Morgans Twp. Cemetery at Schleswig, Iowa.

The choir sang "Be Still My Soul," and the congregation sang "My Hope is Built on Nothing Less."Helmut John Thul, son of Otto and Emma nee Wuensche was born on February 28, 1914 in Ida County. He grew up on farms near Battle Creek and Ida Grove. He farmed most of his life. The last few years working for Midwest at Ida Grove. At the time of his tragic death, he was employed by Ida County. He was baptized at Grant Township Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Battle Creek Lutheran Church. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, at the time of his death.
He was married to Dorothy Wonder on February 14, 1940 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Mapleton.
He is survived by his widow, Dorothy of Schleswig, six children: Larry and Robert of Schleswig, Sharon, wife of Roger Gloede of Sioux City, Sheryl, wife of Leon Gosch of Schleswig; Lori and Tami at home. His mother, Mrs. Emma Thul of Danbury. Four brothers: Emil of Ida Grove and Otto Jr. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Henry of Storm Lake, George of Danbury, two sisters: Agnes, wife of Leo Treiber of Danbury and Elsie, wife of John Dose of Danbury, four grandchildren.
He attained to. 53 years, ten months and 26 days.
Pallbearers were Irvin Harm, David Knoll, Paul Clausen, Dale Neville, Andrew Clausen and Clifford Reimers. Interment was made in the Morgan Cemetery.

Carlan Mae Harm was born in Denison June 27, 1950 and died in Omaha, Nebraska in the Clarkson hospital on Saturday, morning, September 3. (1966)She was the daughter of Irvin Harm and Marlan (Kastner) Harm and attended the schools in Schleswig, being in the Junior class at the time of her death.
She was baptized in infancy an later affiliated with the Lutheran Church by the rite of Confirmation in 1965. She attended the Zion Lutheran Sunday school.
Funeral services were held September 6 in the Zion Lutheran church in Denison with the Rev. Carl W. Schmidt officiating. Hymns were sung by the Lutheran ladies choir with Mrs Carl Schmidt serving as organist. Interment was made in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles, Eugene, Roger, and Russell Harm, Ronald Kastner and Gale Knief.
She is survived by her parents, Mr and Mrs Irvin Harm; two sisters, Colene of Omaha, Nebraska and Rhonda at home; three brothers, Darwin of Denison and Irvin and Ricki at home; by her grandmothers, Mrs William Harm and Mrs Louis Kastner; and her great-grandmother, Mrs Carl Wellendorf. A sister, who died in infancy, preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Albert Neubauer were held Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran church. The choir sang "Be Still My Soul" and the congregation sang "The Lord's My Shepherd." They were accompanied on the organ by Mrs Ray Schmidt. Rev. F. A. Wiese read the following obituary:Albert Johann Friedrich, son of Friedrich Neubauer and Augusta nee Eggebrecht was born on December 3, 1898 in Galva Township, Ida County. He was baptized by Pastor C. E. Miller on February 27, 1899. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Craig, Iowa by Pastor John Vollman on March 28, 1915. In 1921, he began farming for himself. On December 15, 1926, he was united in marriage with Dora Meyer with Pastor Von Gemmingen of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township performing the ceremony. The couple lived for 25 years on their farm seven miles north of Ricketts. In 1952, they moved to Schleswig. He was a life long member of the Lutheran Church and at the time of his death was president of the Aquila Priscilla Club of the congregation. He died very unexpectedly on Friday evening of this past week.
He is survived by his widow, Dora, one son Virgil of Newton a his daughter in law, Fanchon and three grandchildren, Allan, Dean and Lashelle. Eight brothers and sisters: Frieda, wife of Frank Bierman of Pierson, Margaret, wife of Barney Riessen of Denver, Mary, wife of Arnold Burow of Danbury; Minnie, wife of Art Korner of Schleswig, Herman Neubauer of Schleswig; Josie, wife of Herbert Stier of Schleswig; Alma, wife of Ed Mohrhauser of Cushing; and Herbert Christiansen of Mapleton. He attained to 65 years, one month and 21 days.
Burial was made in the Morgan cemetery. The pallbearers were: Hugo Jensen, Frank Jensen, Darold Lee, Earl Bumann, Alvin Bumann and Irvin Bumann.

Carl H. Berndt (1890 - 1985 )
Carl H. Berndt was born on a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa, July 19, 1890, the son of Carl and Sophie Krumtum Berndt. He was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at the same church April 16, 1905. Carl was raised on the farm in Goodrich Township and attended the rural schools there.On May 20, 1913, Carl was married to Elsa Hadenfeld at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. They made their home in Denison and to this union, two children, Raymond and Gertrude, were born. In earlier years Carl was a harnessmaker. From 1936 until 1980, the Berndt's operated a wallpaper business out of their home in Denison.
Since retirement they continued to reside at their home in Denison.
Carl died at his home Saturday evening, November 16, 1985. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 95 years, three months, and 27 days.
He was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and a voting member of the church. He was also a member of the Denison Volunteer Fire Department, retiring after 25 years of service.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Elsa Berndt, one son and wife, Raymond and Alberta Berndt of Carroll, Iowa, one daughter, Gertrude Holzfaster of Denison, one granddaughter and husband, Donna Rae and Randy Jones of Des Moines, and one great grandson, Jeff Jones of Des Moines, Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 19, 1985 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser officiating. Music for the service was provided by the congregation singing three hymns, "Just As I Am" "Jesus Savior Pilot Me," and, "Nearer My God To Thee" with Mrs. Fred Rabe serving as organist. Honorary Pallbearers were Robert Arnold and Fred Berndt. Pallbearers included Jeff Jones, Randy Jones, Alvin Overhue, Ernest Poggensee, LeRoy Hennings, and Herbert Neumann. Interment Was in the Oakland Cemetery in Denison.

Carl Martin Jeschke was born May 14, 1902 the son of Fred and Ameila Jahn Jeschke. He died Friday, August 4, 2000 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-eight.Carl was born on a farm in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa near Schleswig, Iowa. He was baptized on June 22, 1902 and later confirmed on April 16, 1916. He received his education in a rural school near his home and after completing his education, he worked for his parents and various farmers in the area.
On January 15,1928, Carl was united in marriage to Frieda Kuester in Ute, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm near Ute where they farmed for three years before moving to a farm near Ricketts, Iowa. In 1944, they bought a farm near Mapleton where they farmed until moving to Denison in 1974.
Carl was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed reading and playing cards until his eye sight failed.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Edna Reinertson, Milly Godberson, four brothers, Gus, Ben, Otto and Bill Jeschke, two great grandsons and a son-in-law, Norman Nielsen.
Survivors include his wife, Frieda Jeschke of Denison; two daughters, Elaine Friedrichsen and her husband, Freddie of Schleswig; Betty Nielsen of Mapleton; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandsons arid four great great grandchildren; one brother, Herman Jeschke of Denison; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 P.M., Monday, August 7, 2000 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Oakland Cemetery in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Just As I Am, Without One Plea", "Nearer, My God, to Thee" and "Be Still, My Soul". Those serving as pallbearers were: David Friedrichsen, Andrew Friedrichsen, Steven Nielsen, Nancy Feauto, Randy Nielsen, Cindy Nielsen, Alan Nielsen and Inez Voss. The family invited everyone to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Dorcas Society. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Catharine Margaret (Dorenkamp) Kroeger (1891 - 1975 )
Catharine Margaret Kroeger, daughter of John and Dora Jacobs Dorenkamp, was born on a farm in Wright County, near Belmond, on Sept. 10, 1891, and died at Eventide on Feb. 17, having reached the age of 83 years, 5 months, and 7 days.Mrs. Kroeger was baptized Nov. 8, 1891, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended rural schools. On June 21, 1910, she was united in marriage to William F. Kroeger of Ricketts, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. They made their home on a farm near Ricketts. To this union two sons and two daughters were born. In 1942 they retired from farming and moved into Ricketts. Mr. Kroger died April 18, 1971. Mrs. Kroeger made her home at Eventide after the death of her husband.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter, Ethel, and a brother who died in infancy.
Survivors include two sons, Peter of Cedar Falls, Arlo of Denison, one daughter, Mrs. Delores Ewoldt of Denison, seven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00p.m., Feb. 19, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ricketts, with Reverend Mark Broecker officiating. Pallbearers were Richard Kroeger, Robert Ewoldt, Richard Ewoldt. Earl Schwingdorf, Octavus Grill and Robert Tomsen. Interment was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens, Denison, with Huebner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Charles Edward Jessen (1928 - 1999 )
Charles Edward Jessen was born February 24, 1928, the son of Herman and Alice Taylor Jessen. He died Wednesday, February 3, 1999, at the Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa, at the age of seventy.Charles grew up on a farm in rural Mapleton. He began his career in farming at home with his family. He was baptized in Christ as an infant at the Mapleton Methodist Church and became a member of the Methodist Church as a boy. After completing his education in Crawford County Schools, he continued farming until 1952 When he entered the U.S. Army. He served his country in the Medical Corps, driving an ambulance for the 1st Calvary during the Korean Conflict, in the northern islands of Japan.
In 1953, Charles was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army, and returned home to Iowa where he resumed his farming career. February 6, 1954, Charles was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Gilkerson at the Magnolia Methodist Church in Magnolia, Iowa. The couple farmed in Crawford County and were blessed with the birth of four children.
The family farmed until the mid 60's when Charles began a career in long distance trucking. He preferred transporting swinging meat into New York City and other cities in the eastern United States. His memory of interstates, exits, location of scales, and mile markers was uncanny. He drove an estimated four million miles during his trucking career.
In his leisure time, Charles enjoyed woodworking, camping, assisting with the eighth grade Sunday School classes at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, and reading and studying the Bible, having read it many times. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who cared for his family with a Christian diligence and devotion. Charles and Dorothy would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on February 6 of this year.
Charles was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, and the V.F.W. Post 3930, and a past member of the Schleswig School Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Barbara Alice in 1961. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; three daughters, Katherine Ann Newman of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mary Lu Flynn and her husband, Dick of rural Mapleton and Lori Jo Mundt and her husband, Michael of Denison; six grandchildren, Charlie and Jennifer Anders, Allison and Jessica Newman, and Jared and Ran Dee Kastner; one brother, Joseph Jessen and his wife, Mary Jean of Mapleton; one sister, Hazel Hansen and her husband, Lloyd of San Diego, California.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 1999, at the United Church of Christ, Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Gordon Hoyt officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa. Wendy Bumann provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Rubie Kastner, singing, "I Love To Tell the Story", "Blessed Assurance" and "Goin' Home". Honorary pallbearers were Murlin Johannsen, Brian Wellendorf, Jim Hasbrouck and Kenneth Winsor. Pallbearers and military honors were V.F.W. Post 3930 and American Legion Post 645, Schleswig, Iowa. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Guild.

Charles R. Baeth (1896 - 1977 )
Charles R. Baeth was born Jan. 1, 1896 near Schleswig, the son of Hans and Marie Baeth. He died Dec. 23, 1977 at Horn Memorial Hospital, Ida Grove, at the age of 81.Charles was raised on a farm near Schleswig and received his formal education in the rural schools of the area. He was baptized and later confirmed into the United Church of Christ.
Charles served in the U.S. Army during World War I with overseas duty in Germany. On April 28, 1920 he was united in marriage to Hattie Hein at Flandreau, S.D. Together they made their home on a farm near Schleswig where Charles worked as a mechanic for the farmers of the area. To this union were born two daughters.
In 1940 Charles and Hattie moved to Schleswig. Hattie died in 1943 and Charles continued to make his home in Schleswig. He was a member of the Schleswig V.F.W. and the American Legion.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, four half-brothers and three half-sisters.
Survivors include, two daughters, Phyllis, Mrs. Wesley Bush of Galva, and Verda, Mrs. John Lintin of Soldier. Also by seven grandchildren, three great, grandchildren and three brothers, John of Schleswig; Louie of Moorhead, and Harvey of Fort Worth, Texas.
Funeral services were held Dec. 24, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Christ, Schleswig. The Rev. Homer Perry of Mapleton, United Church of Christ, officiated at the services. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery. Pallbearers and Military: graveside rites were provided by the Schleswig V.F.W. and American Legion. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Schleswig.

Charles V. Buchanan (1927 - 1981 )
Charles V. Buchanan was born Dec. 3, 1927, at Arion, Iowa, the son of George and Helen Cecelia Krall Buchanan. He spent his early years on a farm south of Denison and attended the Denison Schools, graduating, from high school with the class of 1945. After high shcool, Chuck spent one year serving in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1946, he enrolled at the Iowa State University of Ames and was graudated from there with the class of 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.On sept. 17, 1950, Charles was united in marriage with Lois Weberg at Kiron. They made their home in Jackson, Miss., where Chuck was employed with the White Rodgers Electric. Company for two years. In 1952, they moved to a farm south of Kiron in Otter Creek Township where their four children, Val, Robin, Jill and Ann were raised.
In Oct. of 1977, Charles and Lois started the Windsong Travel Agency in Denison and moved to Denison from the farm in April of 1978. Charles continued to help with the farming and with he running of the Travel Agency until his health would not permit him to do so. He died at his home in Denison Oct. 6, 1981 following a short illness. At the time of his death he ha attained the age of 53 years, 10 months and three days.
Charles was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denison, tbe American Legion Post No. 383, Kiron, being a past commander, the Sylvan Lodge No. 507, A.F. and A.N of Denison and past master of that body, a member of Eastern Star and the AbuBekr Shrine of Sioux City, and the Consistory Scottish Rite of Free Masonary in Sioux City. He was a member of the Crawford County Farm Bureau and served as treasurer for four years as a member of the Denison Rotary Club. One of Chuck's great loves was serving on the Denison Community School Board of Education for 12 years and as president of the board for many years. He was a member of the Iowa State University Alumni Association and member of the Iowa State Cyclone Club.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Cecelia (Mrs. Earnest) Ahrenfioltz, and two brothers, Hubert Buchanan and Donald Buchanan Aebischer.
He is survived by his wife Lois of Denison, one son Val and his wife Julie of rural Kiron, three daughters; Robin Buchanan and her husband Tom Curnyn of rural Kiron, and Jill and Ami Buchanan both of Denison; three grandchildren, Brendan, Jaime and Jeana Buchanan, his father- and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Weberg of Kiron, one sister Ruth (Mrs. Donald Clothier) of Escondido, Calif., five brothers, Dr. George Buchanan of Washington, D. C., Kenneth Buchanan of Escondido, Calif., James Buchanan ot Waterbury, Conn., Dr. Leonard Buchanan of San Diego, Calif., and Russell Buchanan of Oskaloosa and two aunts, in Denison, Ruby; Mrs. Joe Shields and Mrs. Julia Lyon. Also surviving are many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Masonic Services were held at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7, at the Maxwell Funeral Home in Denison with the Sylvan Lodge No. 507, A.F. & A.M of Denison conducting the service. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 8 at the First United Methodist Church in Denison with Dr. L. Scott Woodworth officiating. Comfort in music was provided by Mrs. Richard Powell as soloist and Nancy Miles as organist. Honorary pallbearers included, Clarence Bartlett, W.L. Mullenger, Howard McMinimee, Ric Clymer, Frank Johnson, Carl Johnson, Norman Langlois; W.F. Morrison, Stuart Smith, Warren Skarin, Lloyd Huffer, Mark Crampton, Robert Nelson and LeRoy Winey. Chris Adolph Neddermeyer (1936 - 2002 )
Chris Adolph Neddermeyer was born May 5, 1936, in Charter Oak, Iowa, to Chris and Lena (Sievers) Neddermeyer. He died Friday, February 22, 2002 of a heart attack enroute home from Mapleton, Iowa at the age of 65.He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, attended St. John's Lutheran School and graduated from the Charter Oak High School in 1954.
He attended Iowa State University before entering the Army taking part in the Korean Conflict. On his return, his entire life was based in the construction industry focusing on mill wrighting for the majority of his career. He formed his own company, Tri Con Maintenance Services, Inc. which he owned and operated, being a major force in the packing house industry.
On December 18, 1965, Chris was united in marriage to Verdean Waderick. Chris was an incredibly loving, caring, and generous person to all of his family and friends, also active in political and civic affairs. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his children, Crystal Bretthauer, Ross Neddermeyer and his wife, Jane, and Amanda Plautz and her husband, Brian; eight grandchildren, Brook, Megan, and Alyse Bretthauer, Rebecca, Maggie, and Christian Neddermeyer, and Jamie and Adam Plautz; his mother-in-law, Ruby Waderich; four sisters, Vernet Larson, Lois Butler, Norma Hawley, and Nancy Burgdorf plus many relatives and a host of friends.
Chris was preceded in death by his wife, Verdean, his parents, three grandchildren, and his sister, Marlene.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 25, 2002 at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa. Pastor Scott Fiege officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa. Creta Teut served as organist accompaniment for congregational hymns "Amazing Grace", "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "How Great Thou Art". Those serving as pallbearers were Mike Keating, J.W. Voight, Leo Morgan, Bernie Jannins, Irv Schau, and Ronnie Barnett. Those serving as honorary pallbearers were all the family and friends of Chris are considered honorary pallbearers. The American Legion Loren Hollister Post #446 of Mapleton, Iowa provided the military graveside honors. The Armstrong Funeral Service in Mapleton, Iowa was in charge of the arrangements.

Christine (Albertsen) Hansen (1892 - 1969? )
Mrs. Adolph Hansen died at the Denison hospital March 24. She had been in ill health since October and was taken to the hospital on March 9 where she remained until her death.Christine Albertsen, daughter of George and Margaret (Brodersen) Albertsen, was born in Sioux County, Neb., on May 1, 1892. Later she went to live with her parents in Wyoming and when 14 years of age, came to live at Midway. She was married to Adolph Hansen on Feb. 21, 1917 and after their marriage they farmed in Goodrich Township until retiring to live in Denison in 1958.
She was baptized in infancy and later confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran church of Battle Creek. Funeral services were held in the Lutheran church in Denison on March 26 with Rev. C. W. Schmidt officiating. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist with hymns being sung by the Lutheran ladies choir. Interment was made in the Morgan township cemetery with the following serving as bearers were James Fast, Bruce Hansen, Donald Woebke, Bradley Hansen, Martin Hansen and Larry Woebke.
Survivors include her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Malinda Schwenn of Denison; Mrs. Lorraine Woebke of Ida Grove, and Mrs. Helen Woebke of Forest Grove, Ore., one son, Bernhard of Ida Grove, 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, two brothers, Chris Albertsen of Anthon and Ben Albertsen of Hayes, Mont., five sisters, Mrs. Marie Brandt, and Mrs. Tillie Schmidt of Oregon City, Ore., Mrs. Anna Thompson of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Frieda Gehrts of Forest Grove, Ore., and Mrs. Helma Nielsen of Ida Grove. She was preceded in death by a daughter who died in infancy, two grandsons and one great grandson, as well as two brothers and two sisters.

Christine (Krobbenhoft) Boehm (1891 - 1981 )
Christine Boehm was born on November 30, 1891, in Germany, the daughter of Peter and Katherina Arff Krobbenhoft. She died on Tuesday, April 28, 1981, at the Crawford County. Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa, at the age of 89.Christine was raised and educated in Germany. She came to the United States when she was 18 years old, making her home in the Schleswig community,
On February 3, 1915, Christine was united in marriage to Ludwig Boehm at Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa. They made their home on a farm in the Charter Oak community for a short time before moving to a farm near Schleswig. Before their retirement in 1946, they returned to a farm in the Charter Oak area, before moving to Schleswig.
After Mr. Boehm's death in 1970, Christine continued to make Schleswig her home until January of 1972, when she entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison.
Christine was baptized and later confirmed in the Christian faith. She was a long time member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Christine was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Survivors include, one son Walter of Denison; one daughter, Irene, Mrs. Paul Clausen of Schleswig; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Mary Claussen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and one brother, Christian Krobbenhoft of Germany.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 30, 1981, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Fred Moore officiated at the services. Pallbearers included Delbert Clausen, Ed Neddermeyer, Trent Clausen, Robert Boehm, Roger Boehm and Dennis Henschen.

Mrs. William Hammer passed away at the Claudia Nursing Home on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26. She had been a resident at the Home since Sept. 21.Clara Louise Ress, daughter of Gustav Ress and Anna (Fischer) Ress, was born March 24, 1893 at Manning, Iowa. She was baptized in infancy and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On Nov. 24, 1920 she was married to William Hammer and after their marriage they resided on the farm near Dunlap, coming to live in Denison after six years. Mr. Hammer died in July 1966.
Surviving her death are two sons: Arthur of Vail and Donald of Columbia, S.C.; four daughters; Mrs. Elizabeth Rabon of Columbia, S.C., Mrs. Betty Ransom of Denison, Mrs. Luella Pelley of Omaha, Nebr., and Mrs. Marcella Bral of Vail; twenty-one grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Hugo Ress and Emil Ress of Manning, Ernest Ress of Manilla; Mrs. Ella Asmus of Audubon, Mrs. Pauline Lake and Mrs. Ida Jochimsen of Manning, Mrs. Edna Hansen of Manilla, Mrs. Anna Hoelscher of Perry and Mrs. Norma Wenzel of Frazee, Minn.
Her husband and one son, Melvin who died in the Burma theatre of war in 1944, preceeded her in death.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday morning, Oct. 30 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Serving as organist was Mrs. Fred Rabe with hymns being sung by the Lutheran Ladies quartet; Interment was made in the Lutheran Cemetery with the following serving as bearers: Eddie Bartels, LaVerne Christiansen, Vernon Hansen, Ralph Borcherding, Arlen Germeroth and Rodney North.

MAPLETON, Iowa - Clara Lydia Mathilde Kroll, 90, of Mapleton died Monday, April 27, 1998, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township, rural Charter Oak, Iowa, with the Rev. Eugene Ernst officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Honje in Mapleton.
Mrs. Kroll was born Aug. 12, 1907, in Ricketts, Iowa, the daughter of Fredrich and Mathilde (Fester) Wodtke. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
She married Edwin L. Kroll on June 25, 1933, in rural Charter Oak. The couple farmed in the Crawford County area until his death in 1959. She then moved into Mapleton, where she was employed as a cook with Maple Valley School.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women Missionary League, the Lutheran Layman League, the Berne Co-op, the Mapleton Senior Citizens and several card clubs. She enjoyed playing cards and flowers.
Survivors include a sister, Helma Engelke of Mapleton; a brother and his wife, Leonard and June Wodtke of Anthon, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Lillian Wodtke of Mapleton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marcus and Martin Wodtke; a sister-in-law, Edna Wodtke; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Engelke.

Clara (Baumhoefner) Marwede (1878 - ? )
Mrs. August Marwede died at the Eventide Lutheran Home on Sunday morning at 10:30. She had been in poor health in recent months.Clara Baumhoefner, the daughter of the Rev. Carl W. Baumhoefner and his wife Louisa, nee Nieman, was born on Dec. 19., 1878, in Scribner, Nebr. In 1880 she came with her parents to Homestead where she grew to womanhood.
She took up nurse's training in the Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City and graduated from this institution in 1914. She followed this profession until her marriage to August Marwede on June 1, 1922 in Readlyn. They resided after that in Cedar Rapids, VanHorne and Victor before coming to make their home in Denison in 1936.
Her death is survived by her husband, two brothers, August of Vinton and Otto of Welcome, Minn.; two step-sons. Henry Marwede of Decatur, Ga., and the Rev. Walter Marwede of Hyattsville, Md.; five sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
Mrs. Marwede was baptized in infancy and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 19, 1892. Funeral services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on Sept. with the Rev. Carl W. Schmidt officiating. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist with songs being sung by the Lutheran Ladies' choir. Interment was made in the Lutheran Cemetery. The following serving as pallbearers: Oscar Baumhoefner, Victor Baumhoefer, Elmer Behrens, Raymond Berndt, Hans Detlefsen and Sylvan Seene. Honorary pallbearers were Carl Berndt and H. C. Finnern.

Mrs. Clara Matilda Hageman, daughter of August and Fanny (Peter) Preul died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa March 9, l975. Having attained the age of 66 years, 7 months and 13 days.Mrs. Hageman was born July 24, 1908 on a farm near Ricketts, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Rural schools in the Ricketts area.
August 12, 1931 she was united in marriage to Martin Hageman of Ricketts. Mr. and Mrs. Hageman made their home on the farm near Ricketts until 1950 at which time they moved to the farm near Denison, Iowa. Mrs. Hageman's health had been failing the past four years.
Mrs. Hageman was preceded in death by her parents, 2 infant brothers and one sister Annie.
Survivors include her husband Martin, 4 brothers, Fred of Mapleton, Henry of Denison, Edward of Charter Oak and Louis of Hamlin, Iowa. 4 sisters Mrs. Lena Sander of Charter Oak Mrs. Hilda Maack of Denison Hattie Mrs. Arnold Hageman of Ricketts and Ella Mrs. Walter Steckelberg of Arion, Iowa, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 12, 10:30 a.m. 1975 at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Ricketts, Iowa, with Pastor Mark Broecker officiating. Mrs. Loren Lee served as organist. Henry Henningsen sang "Asleep in Jesus" and the congregation sang "Heaven is My Home." Interment was made in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. Clarence John Bielenberg was born on Sept. 6, 1908 in Spencer, Nebr., the son of Julius and Dora Bielenberg. He died on Sunday, April 24, 1977 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital at the age of 68.At the age of seven, Clarence returned with his family to Iowa, where they made their home near Schleswig. He was educated in the rural schools and was raised on the family farm.
On Jan. 18,1950 he was united in marriage to Erma Schults of Kiron, in South Sioux City, Nebr. Together they made their home and raised their family on the home place near Schleswig. He was baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran faith as an adult. In 1970 Clarence retired from the farm and moved to Schleswig.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Erma of Schleswig, two daughters, Delores, Mrs. Robert Duncan of Schleswig, and Judy, Mrs. Dale Lehmann of Battle Creek, and one son Larry of Schleswig, and by five grandchildren. Also by one brother Clifford of Mapleton and three sisters Mrs. Leona Jensen of Storm Lake, La Vertre, Mrs. Harvey Mohr of Schleswig and Mrs. Vlasta Jensen of Ida Grove.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 27 at 10:00 a.m. At Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery, Schleswig. The Rev. Daisy Arlene Kroeger was born January 17, 1925, the daughter of Art and Mary Nathan Wright. She died Monday, February 5, 2001 at the Bergen Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of seventy-six.Daisy was born in Dow City, Iowa and received her education in the Dow City Community School. On January 15, 1947, Daisy was united in marriage to Arlo Kroeger at the United Church of Christ in Denison, Iowa by Rev. Yacegar. They made their home on a farm near Charter Oak and were blessed with the birth of three children.
The couple later moved to Denison and in 1975, Daisy went to work for John Meyer for many years. She later worked at the Denison Care Center, the U & I Cafe and Jasper's Restaurant.
Daisy was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother who would do anything for her family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and loved to dance and sing.
Daisy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arlo in 1999, three brothers-in-law and one uncle. Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Weilenman of Denison; Carol Lamaak, and her husband Orville of Denison; one son, Richard Kroeger and his wife, JoAnn of Arion; seven grandchildren, Catherine Lamaak of Council Bluffs; Cheryl Lamaak of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; Christal Lamaak of Cedar Rapids; Tonia Carter of Denison; Rick Kroeger and his wife, Tonya of Kiron; Connie Hollander of Schleswig; Jason Kroeger of Arion; several great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ella Mae Carlson of Ute; Margaret Carlson and her husband, Robert of Denison; Doris Foster and her husband, Art of Oregon; Maxine Busskohl of Odebolt; one sister-in-law, Edna Kroeger of Belmond; one aunt, Edith Kroeger of Denison; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held for Darla June, daughter of Vern Hamer and his wife Letta (Mintun) Hamer, was born June 9, 1941 in Pisgah, where she resided until going to live in Schleswig with her parents in 1952.She was married to Dale Huebner on April 9, 1961 and after their marriage they resided in Denison for several years, then for a short time in Carroll, making their home in Cicero, Illinois, about one year ago.
She became serously ill on January 30 and was hospitalized at that time. Her death occurred on, Monday morning, February 6, at 6:00 a.m.
Her death is survived by her husband, Dale; two daughters, Darci and Denise; her parents, Mr and Mrs Vern Hamer of LaGrange, Illinois; three brothers, Virgil of Council Bluffs, Jerald of Countryside, Illinois and Dennis of Chicago, Illinois; her grandmother, Mrs Emma Hamer of Pisgah,

Dennis Donald Blunk, Kiron, son of Donald and Joyce Aldag Blunk, was born April 6, 1944, at Anthon, and died May 27, 1975, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, at the age of 31 years, 1 month and 21 days.Mr. Blunk was baptized in the, Lutheran Faith at Anthon and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, Kiron. He moved to the Kiron area with his parents as a child and attended rural school in Stockholm Township, and the Schleswig High School.
On January 16, 1962, he was united in marriage to Julia Lackman at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. They lived in the Kiron area. Mr. Blunk was employed by Mid West Industries at Ida Grove. He has been in ill health for the past year.
Survivors include his wife, Julie, his children, Michael, Mark, Michelle, and Merrit, all at home, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Blunk of Kiron, six brothers, William, Lonnie, Terry, Danny, Donald, and Bruce, all of Kiron, four nephews and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with Reverend Robin Tisdale officiating. Pallbearers were John Ang, Rollin Auen, Jim Bral, Gary Carlson, Roger Chisholm, and Roger Furne. Interment was made in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Stockholm Township, Kiron, Iowa, with Huebner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Donald A. Kroeger (1925 - 1997 )
Donald Alvin Kroeger of Longmont died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, at his home. He was 72.After completing high school, Mr. Kroeger Joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific. After his honorable discharge in 1947, he returned to his home in Schleswig, Iowa, where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years. After his retirement in 1974, he moved to Longmont. He belonged to Moose Lodge No. 1548 and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing.
Born May 14, 1925, in Schleswig, Iowa, he was the son of Hugo J. Kroeger and Edith L. Kruse Kroeger. He attended school in Schleswig. He married Noralee Peters in 1947.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hugo, and his wife, Nora Lee on March 30, 1984. He later married Betty Jane Miller on June 4, 1991, in Las Vegas.
Survivors include his mother, Edith Kroeger of Denison, Iowa, his wife Betty Jane of Longmont; one son, Mike Kroeger and his wife Susan, of Clovis, N.M.; two daughters, Nancy Jors and her husband, Gerald of Denison, Iowa, and Vanessa Garcia and her husband, Ben, of Longmont; two stepsons, Gregory Fisketjon and his wife, Kathy, of Bethoud and Scott Fisketjon of Lake Nebagamon, Wis.; one brother, James Kroeger and his wife, Pat, of Lynnville, Wash.; five grandchildren, Calvin Kroeger of West Point, N.Y., Jennifer Kroeger of Clovis, N.M.; Mike Jors of Denver, Michelle Jors of Dubuque, Iowa, and Nicole Hill and her husband, Matt, of Longmont; and two greatgrandchildren, Kaitlyn Hill of Longmont and Megan Jors of Dubuque, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 9, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel, 503 Terry St., with Dan Scates of First Christian Church officiating. Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. Thursday until services began.
Burial was held at Foothills Gardens of Memory, with military honors by American Legion, John Harold Buckley Post No. 32, and fraternal rites by Moose Lodge No. 1548.

Dora Henrietta Anna Neubauer was born November 27, 1901, the daughter of August and Dora Hamman Meyer. She died at the Newton Health Care Center on Monday, October 25, 1993 at the age of ninety-one years.Dora was born on a farm in Soldier Township, near Charter Oak, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township, and received her education in their parochial school.
On December 15, 1926, Dora was united in marriage to Albert Neubauer at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township. The couple settled on a farm in Ida County and were blessed with the birth of one son. The couple farmed until retiring to Schleswig in 1952. They transferred their church membership to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and became active members of the church through memberships in the Fellowship Club. Dora also became a member of the Ladies Aid organization and the Eventide Auxiliary.
In 1964, her husband, Albert died and in 1979, Dora moved to an apartment in Schleswig until settling at the retirement housing in December of 1980. In 1991, Dora moved to the Eventide Nursing Home in Denison living there until 1992 when she moved to a nursing home in Newton to be near her son and family.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters and three brothers. Survivors include one son, Virgil and his wife Fanchon of Newton, Iowa; two grandsons, Alan and his wife, Linda of Janesville, Wisconsin and Dean and his wife, Kimberly of Horseheads, New York; two granddaughters, Lashelle Woods and her husband, Doug and Lynette all of Newton. Also six great-grandchildren: three sisters-in-law, Margaret Meyer of Denison; Pauline Meyer of Schleswig and Alma Mohrhauser of Battle Creek; one brother-in-law, Claus Claussen of Schleswig, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 29, 1993 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig with Rev. Donald Wagner officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Those serving as pallbearers were: Scott Neubauer, Dean Neubauer, Alan Neubauer, Jeff Neubauer, Gary Baker and Doug Woods. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them for lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

E.C. "Sam" Bryan was born on a farm in Paradise Twp., Crawford County, Iowa, Feb. 17, 1918, the son of Oliver and Pearl Riddle Bryan. He was baptized in 1926, at Dow City and was confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Dec. 25, 1948.Sam was raised on the farm and received his education in the rural schools and the Dow City School. In 1936 Sam moved to Chicago where he was employed until entering the United States Army. Aug. 19, 1941. He served his country during World War II as a Radar Repairman in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. Following his discharge Nov. 2, 1945, Sam returned to Chicago and entered the Industrial Training Institute to become an Electrician. He graduated from the Institute Feb. 6, 1948, and moved to Denison where he opened Bryan Electric March 1, 1948.
Also on March 1, 1948, Sam was married to Irene Zoller at Denison. They made their home in Denison where together they operated the electric business. Sam retired from the business his son Jerry now operates, in 1980. Since his retirement, he continued to reside in Denison and kept an active interest in the business.
Same died Nov. 6 1984, at the Crawford county Memorial Hospital in Denison. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 66 years, 8 months, and 19 days. Sam was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison where he served as a Trustee for many years and was a member of the Voters Assembly. He was a member of the Denison Chamber of Commerce and former member of the C.C.I.D.C. and Ambassadors of the Chamber. Sam was also a member of the Exchange Club of Denison, the American Legion Post 8 of Denison, and the V.F.W. Post 2504, Denison.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Glenn Bryan. He is survived by his wife Irene of Denison, one son Jerry of Denison, three brothers, Harold Bryan of Las Vegas, Nev., Clifford Bryan of Albany, Ore., and Elmore Bryan of Bolingbrook, Ill., three sisters, Margaret, Mrs. Clarence Greene of Sac City, Mildred, Mrs. Roberti Schomer of Panama, and Frances, Mrs. H. A. Frerrichs of Ackley. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 9, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with the Rev. Jack D. Heck officiating at the service. Comfort in music was provided by Henry Henningsen singing "Old Rugged Cross" and "I'm But A Stranger Here," and the congregation singing "Rock of Ages." Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist. Honorary pallbearers were, All Friends in Attendance. Pallbearers included Emmett Fitzpatric, Richard Knowles, Arnold Suntken, Russell Hyde, Lee Bliesman, and Bruce Rogers. Interment was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison.

Edith (Kruse) Kroeger (1900 - 2002 )
Edith Kroeger was born October 25, 1900, the daughter of Charles and Christina Brech Kruse. She died Monday, November 18, 2002 at the Eventide Nursing Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of one-hundred-two.Edith was born on a farm near Troy, Iowa and received her education at the Troy Community School and graduating from the Troy High School. She attended Cedar Falls Teachers Extension College in Ottumwa and Centerville, Iowa. After completing her education, Edith taught in various schools in Iowa for five years.
On November 17, 1923, Edith was united in marriage to Hugo J. Kroeger in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple made their home in the Schleswig area and were blessed with the birth of two sons. In 1962 they moved to California to enjoy their retirement together. Returning to Iowa in 1987, they made their home in Ida Grove for one year before moving to Denison. In 1990, due to failing health they moved to the Manilla Manor until Hugo's death in 1991 at which time Edith made her home at the Eventide Nursing Home in Denison.
Edith demonstrated the love she had for her Lord through her dedication to the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. She was the oldest honorary member of the Women's Guild and taught Sunday School for many years. Edith enjoyed sewing, quilting and cooking in her leisure time.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Donald, three sisters, Inez Hining, Elma Kroeger, Helen Good and three brothers, Vearl, Lyle and Lloyd Kruse. Survivors include one son, James Kroeger of Lynnwood, Washington; five grandchildren, Nancy Jors and her husband, Gerald of Denison; Michael Kroeger and his wife, Susan of Clovis, New Mexico; Vanessa Garcia and her husband, Ben of Longmont, Colorado; Cynthia Sirl and her husband, Peter of Lynnwood, Washington; James Kroeger Jr. of Huntington Beach, California; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Otto Kruse of Beardstown, Illinois; niece, Lois Jacobs of Schleswig; nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.
Funeral services were held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2002 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Chris Burtnett officiated the services and grave side rites held at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Organist Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist Barb Buffum as she sang "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me","In the Garden", and "Because He Lives". Those serving as pallbearers were: Andrea Huebner Boyer, Walter R. Huebner, Dennis Huebner, Lorenz Schultz, Aaron Huebner, and Robert Janett.
