Earl Andresen (1910 - 1996)

Earl Andresen was born May 18, 1910, the son of Gustav and Maude Richardsen Andresen. He died at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, Sunday, December 22, 1996, at the age of eighty-six.

Earl was born in Arcadia and received his education at a rural school near Boyer. He then started working for the Illinois Central Railroad.

On January 5, 1935, Earl was united in marriage to Esther Riley at the Zion Parsonage by Rev. William Frese. In 1937 they settled on a farm in Goodrich Township where they were blessed with the birth of one son. The couple continued farming until 1972 when they moved to Denison. During this time he also worked at Feeders Supply for eight years.

Earl was a past member of Faith Lutheran Church, Deloit and was instrumental in moving the schoolhouse to Deloit to begin the Faith Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who cared for his family and devoted his life to them.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Evelyn Kinney. Survivors include his wife, Esther of Denison; one son, Robert and his wife, Mardella of Schleswig; two grandchildren, Lori Brockman and her husband, Teny of Denison, and Kevin Andresen and his wife, Jill of Schleswig; four great-grandchildren, Brad and Tara Brockman of Denison and Ashley and Kyle Andresen of Schleswig; three sisters, Bernice McCoy of Buhl, Idaho, Lucille Krayenhagen of Battle Creek and Maxine Jurgensen and her husband, Edlef of Schleswig; and one sister-in-law, Eleanor Olderog of Denison.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 24, 1996, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "How Great Thou Art", "Let All Together Praise Our God" and "Beautiful Savior". Pallbearers were Melvin Krayenhagen, Robert Hagens, Marlin Krayenhagen, Loren Kastner, Donald Kinney and Dale Kinney. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Earl H. Seehusen (1918 - 1993)

Earl H. Seehusen was born August 6, 1918, the son of Harry and Frieda Ramm Seehusen. He died at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa on Wednesday, July 21, 1993 at the age of seventy-four years.

Earl was born on the family farm in Soldier Township, west of Schleswig, Iowa and received his education in rural schools near his home. After completing his education, Earl farmed and was subsequently united in marriage to Rachel Pelton in Sioux City, Iowa on July 26, 1939.

The couple settled in Crawford County and were blessed with the birth of two children. In 1942, they moved to Seattle, Washington where they remained for nine years before returning to Crawford county where they farmed his family farm until retiring to Schleswig in 1980. Earl was a member of the United Church of Christ and enjoyed occupying his free time bowling and socializing with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rachel in June of 1992 and one brother, Charles. Survivors include one daughter, Harriet Marleen Seehusen of Des Moines, one son Roger Seehusen of Fountain Valley, California: one grandson, Brent Alan of Fountain Valley, California; two sisters, Ruby Anderson and her husband, Holger, and Betty Vaughn both of Correctionville, Iowa and one brother, Bill Seehusen and his wife Mildred of Pearson, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 24, 1993 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. James Schatz officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Good Hope Cemetery in Correctionville, Iowa. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Henry Henningsen singing "The Lord's Prayer" and "God Will Take Care of You" and congregational hymn "What A Friend We Have in Jesus '. Pallbearers were: Bob Bumann, Pat Krayenhagen, Nick Wilken, Donald Teut, Bert Dimig and Ed Broders. The Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Schleswig were in charge of arrangements.

Earl Joseph Christiansen (1916 - 2003)

Earl Joseph Christiansen was born at Crofton, Nebraska, February 22, 1916, the son of Carsten A. and Marie Jane Dozark Christiansen. He was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism June 12, 1916 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Crofton, Nebraska and confirmed in his Christian Faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison April 13, 1930.

When Earl was two years of age the family moved to a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa and resided on different farms there during his formative years. He received his education in the rural schools before being graduated from the Denison High School with the class of 1933.

On December 15, 1940, Earl was united in marriage with Esther C. Brandenburg at Denison. Their union was blessed with two sons, Larry and Merlin. They made their home in Goodrich Township until moving to Denison in 1945. Earl was employed in the Soil Conservation Office and as a bookkeeper and manager of the Lincoln Highway Garage. In 1947 he was elected as Crawford County Auditor and served in that capacity from 1948 until his retirement in 1980. He spent his retirement years in Denison.

Through the years in his spare time and, following his retirement, Earl enjoyed watching wildlife, fishing, gardening, plastic canvas , needlework, being with his family and following the Chicago Cubs . and Iowa Hawkeye sports teams.

He was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison where he had been a voting member since 1937, served on the church council for 31 years, financial secretary for 17 years and treasurer for 14 years.

Earl died Sunday afternoon, September 28, 2003 at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 87 years, 7 months and 6 days.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ethel Dixon. Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife of over 62 years, Esther Christiansen of Denison, Iowa, two sons and their wives, Larry and Karen Christiansen of Bakersfield, California and Merlin and Carol Christiansen of Humboldt, Iowa, four grandchildren, Missy and husband, Lee Smith of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Jeff Christiansen and wife, Tricia of Hampton, Iowa, Sarah and husband, Rick Hebert of Manhattan Beach, California and Stephanie Christiansen of Davis, California, four great-grandchildren, Bekah and Meg Christiansen of Hampton, Iowa and Gabe and Grace Smith of Council Bluffs, Iowa, two sisters, Violet Staller of Vista, California and Evelyn Staller of Denison, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and the Rev. David M. Sewing officiating. Music for the service included three congregational hymns "My Faith Looks Up To Thee", "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "I'm But A Stranger Here, Heaven Is My Home". Karen Kahl served as organist. Honorary bqarers included John Sleiter, Michael Scherff, Wayne Dixon and Wayne Dozark. Pallbearers were Roger Dozark, David Dozark, Willis Staller, Donald Eggert, Robert Scherff and Robert Lee. Interment was at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral home was privileged to be entrusted with the funeral arrangements and services.

Earl Justice (1911 - 1981)

Earl, son of Ralph and Alta Chamberlin Justice, was born May 20, 1911, near Defiance, Iowa. He attended the Defiance schools through the 8th grade.

He was united in marriage with Marian Drake on July 5, 1932. Earl was a life-long farmer near Manilla except for a short period of time spent in Minnesota. He also engaged in carpentering over the years and enjoyed woodworking.

Earl had been in failing health and died Feb. 26, 1981, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 69 years, nine months and six days. He was preceded in death by his father and by a brother, Kenneth.

He is survived by his wife, Marian, of Manilla, by his mother, Alta Justice, of Manilla, by one son, Earl Jr. and his wife, Ginger, of Salem, Ill., by three grandchildren, Rene, Mrs. Doug Chasteen of Rolla, Mo., and Kelly and Troy Justice, by six brothers, Harold of Arkansas, George of Botna, Amos of Arkansas, Clifford of Irwin, Russell of Irwin and Howard of Ankeny. Earl was a member of the First Christian Church of Harlan and had served actively in leadership roles in former churches.

Funeral services were held March 1 at 2:00 p.m., Ohde Funeral Home, Manilla. Officiating was Pastor Don Schoepf of the First Christian Church of Harlan. Organist was Babette Schoepf, vocalists were Mr. and Mrs. William Ahrenholtz. Interment was in the Nishnabotna Cemetery. Pallbearers were Leonard Cadwell, John MeNerney, Willie Lohrmann, Verne Cadwell, Hal Cadwell and Bernie Jorgensen. Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla was in charge of arrangements.

Earl William Baker (1913 - 2000)

Earl William Baker was born April 20, 1913, the son of Charles and Amelia Schurke Baker. He died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, Sunday, March 26, 2000 at the age of eighty-six.

Earl was born on a farm near Kiron, Iowa and was baptized as an infant at St. John's Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, Kiron, Iowa and later confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa on April 1, 1928. He received his education in a rural school near his home and the Denison High School. After completing his education, Earl helped on the family farm.

On December 19, 1934, Earl was united in marriage to Vera Hollander at the St. John's Lutheran Parsonage in Stockholm Township. The couple made their home on a farm near Kiron, until retiring and moving to Kiron in 1979. Vera died on May 9, 1993 and Earl continued to make his home in Kiron, until moving to Eventide Lutheran Home on March 11, 2000.

Earl was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Kiron, where he served in various offices, including trustee and elder. He was also a member of the Senior Citizens Club in Schleswig and a former member of the Kiron Senior Citizens. Earl was a kind, considerate and loving person who never complained and was loved by his many nieces and nephews who will cherish memories of him. He enjoyed dining out, traveling, socializing and having coffee with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Vera, two brothers, Marvin and Herbert.

Survivors include one brother, Raymond Baker and his wife, Goldie of Kiron; one sister-in-law, Vernette Baker of Kiron; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held 10 a.m., Thursday, March 30, 2000 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kiron. Rev. Hilmer Hafner officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Lois Gronau provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me", "In the Cross of Christ I Glory" and "I'm But a Stranger Here". Those serving as pallbearers were: Dennis Friedericksen, Roger Chisholm, Verdell Kastner, Wilbert Groth, Barry Jurgensen, Jim Lindstrom, Melvin Baker and Roger Baker. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the. Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Earnest George Ahrenholtz (1914 - 1989)

Earnest George Ahrenholtz was born Dec. 28, 1914, at Buck Grove, Ia., the son of George and Sophie Hulsebus Ahrenholtz. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the rural schools.

On Dec. 14, 1941, Earnest was united in marriage with Cecelia Buchanan at her family home south of Denison. They made their home on the Ahrenholtz family farm at Buck Grove where Earnest lived and farmed all of his life.

Cecelia died July 6, 1972. Earnest continued to reside on the farm where his death occurred late Saturday evening, Oct. 21, 1989. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 74 years, 9 months, and 23 days.

He was a member of the First -United Methodist Church in Denison, the Sylvan Lodge 507, A.F.A.M., Denison, and the Sylvan Chapter 207 Order of Eastern Star, Denison.

Including his wife, Cecelia and his parents, Earnest was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Hast; and one brother, Murl Ahrenholtz.

Survivors include one son, Russell Buchanan and his wife, Kathy, of Oskaloosa; two daughters, Karen and husband, Norman Sauve, of Pasadena, Calif., and Cheryl and husband, Scott McMorris, of Denison; two grandchildren, Shannon and Sean McMorris of Denison; one stepgrandson, Rick Staeiger of Florida, one step-great-granddaughter, Nicole Staeiger; special friend, Estelle Quinn of Defiance; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Masonic services were held at 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Sylvan Lodge 507 A.F. 9 A.M. participating. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the First United Methodist Church in Denison, Dr. Edward R. Peterson officiating. Organist Pam Duffey accompanied vocalists Bill and Louise Ahrenholtz who sang "Old Rugged Cross"and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers included Gerald Hulsebus, Gene Schnuettgen, Byron Meeves, James Zimmerman, Val Buchanan and Jim Langenfeld. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetary, Denison. Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Eddie Christiansen (1911 - 1989)

Eddie Christiansen, the son of Carl and Louise Oden Christiansen, was born Feb. 5, 1911 at Ute, Ia., and died on Feb. 21, 1989, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 78 years and 16 days.

Eddie was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and on May 9, 1959, became a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City. He remained a faithful member, having served as a church elder and as financial secretary. Eddie spent most of his years in the Dow City area, attending school there. After finishing school, he farmed with his parents and brothers.

On Feb. 26, 1943, Eddie and Magdalene Meggers of Denison were united in marriage at Omaha, Neb. They were blessed with one daughter, LuAnn. They farmed west of Dow City for 29 years, retiring in 1972 and moving to Dow City at that time. Because of failing health, he entered the Denison Care Center on Oct. 11, 1988, where he resided until Tuesday, Feb. 21, when he entered the Crawford County Memorial Hospital.

Preceding Eddie in death were his parents and one brother, Alex. Survivors include his wife, Magdalene of Dow City; his daughter, LuAnn Davis and one granddaughter, Natasha Lynn Davis, both of Denison. Also surviving are three brothers, Oscar Christiansen and his wife, Edna of Omaha, Neb., Solon Christiansen of Dunlap, Eddie's twin brother, Martin Christiansen and his wife, Dorothy of Dow City; one sister, Melba and her husband, Albert Hansen of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City. Pastor Kenneth C. Haydon officiated with interment in the Dow City Cemetery. Mrs. Darrell Ketelsen was organist for Henry Henningsen as soloist and congregational singing. Selections were "How Great Thou Art," "Beautiful Savior" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Serving as pallbearers were Lonnie Jepsen, Roger Frank, Don Namanny, James Meggers, Howard Christiansen and Gaylen Jepsen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Edgar Walter Blume (1918 - 1997)

Edgar Walter Blume of Schleswig, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, at his home near Schleswig, having attained the age of 79 years and 21 days.

Born June 25, 1918, in Charter Oak, Iowa, Edgar was the son of Fred and Sophie (Bramstedt) Blume. He grew up and attended country school in Charter Oak, and was baptized as a child in the Lutheran faith.

On November 20, 1937, he was united in marriage to Rosalie Green in Denison. This year would have marked their 60th Wedding Anniversary. The couple farmed for many years in Crawford County.

His family includes his wife, Rosalie; two sons, Marvin Blume of Battle Creek, and Dennis Blume and wife Juliana of Cushing; eight grandsons, Carl Blume and wife Sharon, Keith Blume and wife Barb, Kevin Blume and wife, Charity, Harold Blume and wife Karen, Kelly Blume and wife Amy, Todd Blume, Jared Blume and wife Amy Ann, and Dustin Blume; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fritz of Denison and George and Minnie of Mapleton; and three sisters, Elsie Blume of Denison, Clara and Emma, both of Portland, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William, Paul, and Herb Blume; a sister, Ida Quandt; and one grandson, Dennis Blume Jr.

Funeral services were held at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove, Iowa on Saturday, July 19, 1997. Officiating was Reverend Karen Handke with music by Connie Huffman, organist and Trisha Hoffman, soloist singing, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were Kelly Blume, Harpld Blume, Norman Bockelman, Todd Blume, Carl J Blume and John Hutcheson.

Edlef Jurgensen (1915 - 2001)

Edlef Jurgensen was born on a farm in Denison Township, September 23, 1915, the son of Moritz and Adela Schade Jurgensen. He died Thursday, August 23, 2001 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-five.

Edlef made his home with aunts and uncles because of his mothers death when Edlef was only three years old. He received his education in Crawford County Schools, graduating from the eighth grade.

He worked for various farmers in the Crawford County area, until his marriage to Maxine Andresen on December 22,1939.

The couple farmed in the Schleswig area until 1968, when they purchased the Oasis in Denison, which they owned and operated for eight years. Edlef then worked for the State of Iowa Liquor Commission until his retirement in 1983. Ed was the recipient of the 1992 Crawford County Outstanding Senior Citizens Award. In 1993, they moved to Schleswig to their present home.

Edlef was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, where he served on the Building Committee. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and dancing, especially Polka. He was an Atlanta Braves Baseball fan and enjoyed watching them play. After his retirement Edlef and Maxine enjoyed traveling and going to the Senior Center, where he served on the board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Hertha Friedrichsen and one grandson, Craig Kastner.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine of Schleswig; one daughter, Shirley Kastner and her husband, Loren of Schleswig; three grandchildren, Corey Kastner and his wife, Deanna of Sibley; Cal Kastner and his wife, Tracy of Schleswig; Trudi Andernacht and her husband, Craig of Parkville, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Courtney Kastner of Newburgh, New York; Calvin Kastner of Sibley; and Cara Kastner of Schleswig.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 27, 2001 at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa. The Rev. Thomas Buzbee officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Nancy Miles served as organist for soloist, Sherrill Buzbee singing "I Will Remember You" and "Lift High the Cross" and congregational hymn "Amazing Grace". Those serving as pallbearers were: Melvin (Pat) Krayenhagen, Roger Friedrichsen, Mike Krayenhagen, Robert Andresen, Donald Kinney and Dale Kinney. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the United Presbyterian Church. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Edmund Adolf John Peter Hamann (1913 - 2001)

Edmund Adolf John Peter Hamann was born May 26, 1913 to Adolf and Anna Tank Hamann. He died Saturday, December 15, 2001 at his home in Schleswig, Iowa at the age of eighty eight.

Edmund was born on a farm in Crawford County near Schleswig, Iowa. He received his education in a rural school near his home and was confirmed in the United Church of Christ with the class of 1929.

On June 9, 1936, Edmund was united in marriage to Leonore Schroeder. The couple farmed on the home place until they retired and moved to Schleswig in November of 1976.

Edmund was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. He was a kind and loving person who enjoyed socializing with family and friends. He spent his retirement years gardening and creating fun things in his basement work shop.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Lillie Wellendorf Johnson, Edna Bumann and twin sisters in infancy, also one brother, Robert.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years of marriage, Leonore; nieces and nephews, Earl and Shirley Bumann; Lucille Bumann Mason; Mildred and Jim Fleenor, all of Ida Grove; Dolores and Delayne Linn of Morris, Illinois; June Bumann, Engelwood, Colorado; Edna Mae and Tom Phillips of Ida Grove; Lois and Ed Skinner of Altoona; Carol and Roger Clausen of Missouri Valley; Karen Bumann; Roger and Karen Bumann, all of Ida Grove; Jeanette and Dick Messer of Altoona; Gary and Barbara Potter; and Dennis and Trudy Potter, all of Anoka, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2001 at United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Rev. Juanita Gillies officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Organist Wendy Bumann provided the organ accompaniment for Barb Buffum, Pam Gronau, and Amy Lafrentz as they sang "In the Garden", and for congregational hymn "What A Friend We Have in Jesus". Those serving as pallbearers were: Nick Bahnsen, John Bahnsen, Roger Clausen, Tom Phillips, Roger Bumann, and Delayne Linn. The family invited everyone in attendance to return to the church and join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Women's Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

George A. Segebart (1905 - 1974)

George Albert Segebart, son of William and Myrtle Wilson Segebart, was born on a farm near Vail, Iowa on October 3, 1905 and died Tuesday, October 8, 1974 at Iowa City, having reached the age of 69 years and 5 days.

Mr. Segebart was raised on farms around Vail and Westside. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended rural schools. He married Mary Reetz, who passed away shortly after the birth of a daughter, Alyce Mae.

On August 5, 1936, he was united in marriage to Viola Neubauer of Denison. Three daughters and four sons were born to this union. They made their home on farms near Deloit where Mr. Segebart worked on a farm for four years, before farming for himself. He retired in 1962 and in 1964 Mr. and Mrs. Segebart moved to Deloit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Bernice, and one sister, Mrs. Lillie Dixon.

Survivors include his wife, Viola, seven children, Alyce Mae (Mrs. George Berndt) of Denison, Ervin of Edwards Air Force Base, California, Glenn of Ida Grove, Roger of Fort Carson, Colorado, Joyce (Mrs. Larry Wiegel) of Denison, Elaine of Wyoming, Minnesota, Keith at home, 8 grandchildren, one brother, Earl, three sisters, Lula (Mrs., Arthur Pahl) of Westside, Alice (Mrs. Lafe Schoenjahn) of Carroll, Irma (Mrs. Frenz Lohrmann) of Manning.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 11, at the Huebner Funeral Home with Rev. Robin Tisdale officiating. Pallbearers were Leslie Kruger, William Ladwig, Gene Lohrmann, James H. Miller Sr., and Gale Segebart. Burial was at the Grant Township Cemetery with Heubner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

George C. Frehse (1888 - 1968)

George C. Frehse, age 79 of Lake View, Iowa, died at Loring Hospital in Sac City, Ia. early Monday morning, Feb. 19 (1968).

He lived in Denison for 27 years prior to moving to Lake View where he resided for the past 15 years. He was born on Aug. 20, 1888 in Clinton County and was the son of Hans and Anna Wilke Frehse.

He is survived by his wife, Emma of Lake View, one son, Alvin of Nemaha, four grandchildren, two brothers, Johann of Lake View and Hugo of Denison. He was preceded in death by his sister Lydia.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Lake View with Rev. Larry Leuthaeufer officiating. Internment was made in the Wall Lake Cemetery. The pallbearers were Richard Huisenga, Edward Drilling, Jr., C.N. Peterson, Sydney Nelson, Leon Mein, and Ralph Liston. The quartet was Mrs. Donald Hawks, Mrs. Harold Peters, Mrs. Donald Hill, and Mrs. Walter Schramm. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

George L. Schmidt (1886 - 1966)

Funeral services were held for George L. Schmidt Thursday, March 3, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He passed away at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital on March 1, 1966. He had been admitted to the hospital on Friday February 19th.

He was the son of Henry Schmidt and his wife Bertha nee Wilke. He was born May 6, 1886 in Goodrich Twp., Crawford County, Iowa.

On February 9, 1910 he was married to Clara Peterson and to this marriage five children were born. They farmed in Otter Creek Twp., and Mrs. Schmidt preceded him in death on January 27, 1953. Mr. Schmidt then came to Denison to make his home. In early life he was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Denison of which he was also a voting member. Here his funeral was held on March 3, 1966.

Surviving his death are two sons: Ray of Schleswig and Vernie of Denison; two daughters Viola and Edna Mae of Denison; five grandchildren; Roger, Terry Lee, Sandra, Kaylene, and Thomas Schmidt, all of Denison. His wife and one daughter Irene preceded him in death.

Interment was at Morgan Township Cemetery in Schleswig.

George Riessen (1886 - 1980)

George Riessen was born on July 11, 1886, in Otter Creek Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Mathias and Minna Peterson Riessen. He died on Wednesday, October 22, 1980 at the age of 94.

George was raised on a farm in Otter Creek Township. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home. George was baptized and later confirmed in the Christian faith in Grant Township.

On February 2, 1916, George was united in marriage to Ella Ericksen at Schleswig, Iowa. He farmed his entire working career in Crawford and Ida Counties. In 1959 he retired and moved to Denison. George was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. For the past three years, George and his wife have been residents of the Manilla Manor due to ill health.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by one son, Raymond, two grandchildren, one brother, three sisters and three half-sisters.

Survivors include his wife Ella of Denison, two daughters, Florence, Mrs. Lawrence Griffin of Denison and Arlene, Mrs. Arlo Jahn, also of Denison, four sons, Orville of Charter Oak, Leonard of Vail, Milo and Arlo both of Denison, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 25, 1980, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Fred Moore officiated at the services. Serving as pallbearers were Leroy Schagt, Rudie Koch, Herbert Riessen, Leroy Brodersen, Vernon Christiansen, and Harvey Ericksen.

George H. Schiernbeck (1904 - 1972)

Funeral services for George H. Schiernbeck were held Thursday, April 20, 1972 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig with Rev. R.J. Ratzlaff officiating. Mrs. John Evers, organist, accompanied Mrs. Ernie Grell and Mrs. G.M. Johnson as they sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Old Rugged Cross".

George Hamann Schiernbeck, son of John Schiernbeck and Emma nee Hamann, was born in Otter Creek Township, Crawford County, in July 31, 1904. He was baptized and confirmed from The United Church of Christ. He moved with his parents to Ida County when a small boy and attended the public schools in Grant Township. He helped his parents on the farm until his marriage to Anna Ipsen on February 7, 1934 when they farmed in Garfield Township, Ida County, until they retired and moved to Schleswig in January 1966.

Mr. Schiernbeck entered the Crawford County Memorial Hospital on April 10, 1972 where he passed away suddenly early Tuesday morning, April 18, reaching the age of 67 years 8 months and 18 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include: his wife, Anna; three sisters Hattie, Mrs. Clemens Roberson of Battle Creek, Iowa; Edna, Mrs. Edna Palm of Dansbury, Iowa, and Clara, Mrs. Walter Burk of Battle Creek, Iowa; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were: Erwin Voss, Ray Hargens, Melvin Teut, Claire Prokop, Herbert Miller, and Henry Friedrichsen. Interment was in Morgan Cemetery.

George S. Christiansen (1902 - 1967)

George S. Christiansen was born on March 18, 1902 in Paradise Twp. of Crawford County. He was one of nine children and lived with his family and went to school in Paradise Township.

On Aug. 26, 1924, he was united in marriage to Minnie Detlefsen. To this union 11 children were born. The family lived on farms for many years in Crawford County. He was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove.

The past year and a half he made his home with his daughter, Darlene and Arnold Kolln of Buck Grove. He was employed by R.M. Michel's Plumbing up until the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie, his parents, three brothers, Henry, Fred, Lewis and one sister, Elsie Miller.

He is survived by 11 children, Mrs. Merlin Eck of Denison; Mrs. Ray Van De Weerd of Oxnard, California; Mrs. Arnold Kolln of Buck Grove; Leroy Christiansen of Denison; Charles S. Christiansen of Manilla; Lloyd Christiansen of Dunlap; Mrs. Merill Tornow of Carroll; Mrs. Richard Nelson of Alta; Clifford Christiansen of Denison; Mrs. Ronald Dieber of Storm Lake, and Donald Christiansen of Cherokee. Survivors also include 25 grandchildren, one great grandchild, three sisters, Lula Evers of Denison, Ann Baer of Schleswig, Helen Riddle of Whittier, California, and one brother, Ben of Lander, Wyoming.

Mr. Christiansen died December 27, 1967. Services were held at the Huebner Funeral Home at Denison with Rev. Kenneth Braun officiating. Mrs. Fred Rabe, organist, accompanied soloist, Henry Henningsen. Pallbearers were Freddie Fuller, Ralph Hester, Walter Petersen, and Lewis Hanson, August Namanny, and Marvin Voss. Interment was at Oakland Cemetery, Denison.

George W. Rank (1874 - 1964)

George W. Rank was born in Indiana on July 23, 1874 and died at the Saunders Nursing Home in Denison on March 20 (1964), at the age of 89 years, seven months and 25 days.

On November 29, 1900 he was united in marriage to Pearl Verona Jankins at the Congregational Church in Harlan. To this union four children were born. They started their life together on a farm at Defiance, living there until 1917 when they moved to a farm east of Dunlap where the remaining years of his life were spent.

Survivors include his four children, Fred of Charter Oak, Searil, at home, Virgil of Denison, and Lorean (Mrs. Ellis Tracy) of Stanford, Illinois, eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 64 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1953 and nine brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were held in the Congregational Church in Dunlap on March 23, at 2 p.m. Dr. E. Carl Swanson officiating. Pallbearers were Robert and John Rank, Norman Rossow, Clyde McCollough, Romanon Jenkins and Hubert O'Day.

Gerdine (Schipper) Suntken (1897 - 1966)

Funeral services for Mrs. Gerdine Suntken were held July 25 (1966) at the Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. C.W. Schmidt officiated at the 10:30 a.m. services. Music was provided by the Lutheran Ladies Choir, accompanied by Mrs. C.W. Schmidt at the organ. Pallbearers were William Blair, Harold Fredericks, Warner Henney, Fay Leemkull, Leonard Namanny, and Walter Petersen. Interment was in the Lutheran Cemetery with Huebner Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Daughter of William and Elizabeth (Zeba) Schipper, she was born March 24, 1897 in Oslfriesland, Germany. She was baptized in infancy and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 16 she came to Iowa and in 1930, moved to Denison where she made her home.

Survivors include the following children: George of Redwood Valley, California; Clarence of Ukiah, California; Arnold, Gerald and Richard of Denison and Mrs. Geraldine Blair of Vail; Stepchildren; Mrs. Elizabeth Foderberg of Ames, Mrs. Wibkelina Lyons of Rocky Ford, Colorado, and Mrs. Dena Rossow of Des Moines, Mrs. Nellie Camp of Bedford, Indiana; William of Elgin, Minnesota and Fred of Burlington; 15 grandchildren and 30 step grandchildren; 20 step great grandchildren; two brothers, John Schipper of Popejoy and Gerd in Germany and one sister, Mrs. Wubbena of Manzanola, Colorado. One sister and two brothers preceded him in death.

Glen D. Comstock (1920 - 1977)

Glen David Comstock was born on December 18, 1920 at Denison, the son of David and Bertha Comstock. He died November 21, 1977 at Crawford Count Memorial Hospital, Denison at the age of 56.

Glen was raised in Denison and received his formal education in the public schools graduating from Denison High School. He was baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church.

On September 30, 1946, he was united in marriage to Helen Harm at Denison. Together they made their home on the farm southeast of Denison for eight years before moving to Denison. Glen was employed at Montgomery Ward in Denison for a number of years. At the time of his death he was associated with an automobile dealership in Manilla.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Helen of Denison, one son Richard of Baton Rouge, La. and by one daughter, Barbara, Mrs. Jerry Ernst of Schleswig.

Funeral services were held November 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery. The Rev Gary Hoffstetter officiated at the services. Pallbearers included Leroy Comstock, Maclyn LaRue, Harold Kierscht, Terry Knott, Steve Nason and Winn Zitlsperger. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Johann Gustav Reimers (1883 - 1964)

Funeral services for Johann Gustav Reimers were held Saturday, October 3, 1964 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Rev. F. A. Wiese officiating. Music was by Mrs. Ray Schmidt, organist; hymns were "My Hope is Built on Nothing Less" by the congregation and "I'm but a Stranger Here" by the choir.

Johann Gustav Reimers, son of John H. Reimers and Ottilie nee Stegemann, was born on July 12, 1883 on a farm east of Schleswig. In infancy he was baptized by Lutheran Pastor Haar and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grant Township in April, 1898.

He was joined in marriage to Emma Rehmke on February 21, 1912. The Lord blessed the couple with five children. The young couple began farming at the home place north of Schleswig. His wife Emma died in 1947. He remained on the home place until he moved to Schleswig in 1962. He was a member of this congregation for 52 years and belonged to the Voters Assembly.

Since his heart attack in July 1956, his health has been fair. He peacefully passed away in his sleep last Wednesday night.

Preceding him in death was his wife Emma, 2 sisters and 4 brothers. He is survived by all his children: Hilda, wife of Herbert Schau of Charter Oak, Elsie of Schleswig, John T. of Charter Oak, Anna of Schleswig and Lucille, wife of Emil Ress of Manning. One brother Herman of Schleswig, one sister Mrs. Henry Schumann of Omaha and 9 grandchildren. He attained to 81 years, 2 months and 19 days.

Pallbearers were Dennis Schau, Kenneth Schau, William Kahler, John Dorfler, Frank Dorfler, and John H Moeller. Interment was in Morgan Cemetery.

Karl Reichert (1898 - 1981)

Karl Reichert was born on Feb. 21, 1898, in Germany, the son of Karl and Josephine Reichert. He died July 30, 1981, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, at the age of 83.

Karl was raised and educated in Germany. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On March 17, 1935, Karl was united in marriage to Anna Kutterer in Germany.

Together they moved to the United States, making their home on a farm in Goodrich Township. In 1958, Karl retired and moved to Denison where he built his own home. He remained active by farming with his son-in-law Lloyd Freese and grandsons in Westside.

In addition to his parents, Karl was preceded in death by one granddaughter Debra June, one sister and one brother.

Survivors include his wife Anna of Denison; and three daughters, Gertrude (Mrs. Lloyd) Freese of Westside, Arlene (Mrs. Reid) Thibodeau of Westminster, Calif., and Mrs. Lore Shotwell of Gardena, Calif. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Aug. 1, at 1:30 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Jack Heck officiated at the services. Pallbearers were William Mahnke, Harvey Heumann, Vernon Neumann, Paul Schwanz, Marvin Voss, August Hansen and Alvin Schwenn. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Katherine (Brechwald) Rohwer (1872 - 1965)

Mrs. Theodore Rohwer passed away Saturday, February 6th (1965) at her home in Schleswig. She was the widow of the late Theodore Rohwer, who started in the banking business in Schleswig in the fall of 1899. Mrs. Rohwer has been a continuous resident of Schleswig since the spring of 1900. Katherine Rohwer, nee Brechwald was born in Zornheim, Germany, September 14, 1872. She came to Ida Grove with her parents at the age of eight.

In 1893 she was united in marriage with Theodore Rohwer. Mr. and Mrs. Rohwer were the parents of seven children, namely: Julius A. Rohwer, Schleswig; John H. Rohwer, deceased; Theresa R. Hordeman, Schleswig; Helen, Mrs. Joe Schlimgen, Schleswig; Dr. Roland T. Rohwer, Sioux City; Emmet T. Rohwer, LaGrange, Texas and Alice Rohwer, deceased. Mrs. Rohwer is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Theresa Heart of Billings, Montana, 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Rohwer was one of the first residents of Schleswig. Her passing marks the last of the generation of Schleswig's founders.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ida Grove, claims her as its oldest parishioner. Services for Mrs. Rohwer included: the Rosary at Sinn's Funeral Home Monday evening, a High Mass at the Church Tuesday morning, and burial in the family plot in the Ida Grove Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Charles Evers, Burdell Jensen, Larry Claussen, Leonard Hollander, John Evers, and Herbert Rickert. Honorary pallbearers were: Frank Jensen, E. W. Claussen, Herbert Peters, E. J. Stoltenberg, C. H. Claussen, Bart Bielenberg and Hans Behrmann.

Kermit Teut (1914 - 1979)

Kermit Teut was born on October 22, 1914, at Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Herman and Anna Wiedmann Teut. He died on Monday, September 17, 1979, at the Crawford Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa at the age of 64.

Kermit was baptized as an infant on November 29, 1914, and later confirmed on March 24, 1929, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township. He was raised on a family farm in Soldier Township and received his education in the rural schools near his home. He attended the Immanuel Lutheran School during the time of his confirmation.

On November 26, 1939, Kermit was united in marriage to Irene Pautsch at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. They farmed near Ricketts and after 25 years of farming moved to Denison in 1965.

Kermit was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife Irene of Denison, four sons, Roger of Friend, Nebraska, Ronald of Charter Oak, Corvin of Schleswig and Myron of Carroll and ten grandchildren. Also by six brothers, Melvin and Arlo of Schleswig, Ralph of Ute, Herbert of Mapleton, Raymond of Marion, Ohio and Everett of Omaha and three sisters, Edna, Mrs. Marcus Wodtke and Ruby, Mrs. A. A. Waderich both of Mapleton and Erna, Mrs. Gilbert Nihsen of Charter Oak.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 19, 1979, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. The Rev. Jack Heck officiated at the services. Pallbearers included Kevin Boeck, Gale Teut, Curt Schultz, Peter Teut, Gary Teut and Curtis Wiebers.

Kjeld Christensen (1879 - 1964)

Manning - Funeral rites for Kjeld Christensen, 85, Manilla, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla, with Rev. Vernon Gunderman, Arcadia, officiating. Burial was at Astor.

Mr. Christensen became ill at his home on Sunday, Nov. 15, (1964) and died Monday noon, Nov. 16.

Son of Christian and Elgie Marie Christensen, he was born Sept. 12, 1879 in Vorning, Jylland, Denmark. He came to the United States on Dec. 22, 1896 to live with his brother, Lawrence, at Defiance. He worked on farms in the Astor and Manilla areas and in 1908 was married to Lena Johanna Fredericksen. They homesteaded in North Dakota. Mrs. Christensen died in childbirth on Nov. 27, 1908. Mr. Christensen then returned to Astor where he worked for A. O. Olson.

He married Caroline Olson on March 12, 1910. They had one daughter who died at the age of 2. They farmed near Manilla and moved to town 28 years ago. Mrs. Christensen died Feb. 7, 1960 following 23 years of ill health. He then made his home with a sister, Ella Olson, who died in 1951. Since that time he lived alone.

He was preceded in death by his wives, a daughter, his parents, a great-grandson, two brothers and two sisters. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Wilbur (Lena) Schwieso, Manilla; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Rasmussen, Manilla.

LaDona B. (Hazelo) Kessel (1871 - 1971)

Funeral services for Mrs. LaDona B. Kessel, 100, who died at a Boone nursing home on Aug. 22, 1971, were held Aug. 25 at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Boone. Burial was at the Oakland Cemetery in Denison.

Mrs. Kessel, daughter of Fredrick and Orrilla Heminway Hazelo, was born Feb. 18, 1871 at Cherry Valley, Ill. She was married to Herman Grill in Wheatland, Ia. and they made their home in Denison. He preceded her in death in 1923.

She was married to Otto Kessel on July 4, 1925 and he preceded her in death in 1949. She then went to Boone to make her home with a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Mesenbrink, where she resided until going to Mac's Nursing Home.

Survivors include two sons, Fred Grill of Boone and John Grill of Independence, here daughter, Mrs. Ben Mesenbrink of Boone; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kessel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, two sisters and a stepson.

Larry Wilbur Bohlman (1943 - 1965)

Charter Oak - Larry Wilbur Bohlman was born in Charter Oak Township June 20, 1943, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bohlman and died May 15, at the age of 21 years, 10 months and 25 days.

He spent his entire life in this community. He entered the Immanuel Lutheran School and later transferred to the Charter Oak public school, from where he graduated in 1961. He joined the National Guard while still in high school and was a member of the active reserve at the time of his death. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith on July 11, 1943 and was confirmed on April 14, 1957.

Survivors include his parents, two brothers, Virtus and Duane.

Funeral services were held May 17 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township at 10 a.m. with Rev. E. Greene officiating. Pallbearers were Keith Carlyle, Roger Gloede, Ronald Gloede, Darold Kahl, Delbert La Frenz and Delbert Wodtke. Internment was made in the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery in Soldier Township.

Laura Anna Marie (Zabel ) Edsen (1894 - 1965)

Funeral services for Laura Edsen were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church on Monday, March 8, 1965. The choir sang, "Be Still My Soul" and the congregation sang, "Rock Of Ages." They were accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Ray Schmidt. Rev. F. A. Wiese officiated.

Laura Anna Marie, daughter of August Zabel and Emma nee Burk was born on the 5th of October 1894 in Grant Township. She was baptized by the Rev. F. Schug on December 7, 1894 and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grant Township, in 1910.

She was joined in marriage to Jens Edsen on November 26, 1912 with Pastor Henry Schwenk performing the ceremony. The couple farmed north of Ida Grove, then in 1914 began farming in Grant Township. In 1946, they retired to Schleswig. Several months ago, Laura Edsen was operated upon at Iowa City. Since that time her health has been fair. She unexpectedly died last Friday morning. She was a long time member of the Immanuel Lutheran congregation and held membership in Ladies Aid Society.

She is survived by her husband, Jens of Schleswig, the following children: Meinert of Rancho Cordova, California; Elvera, wife of Virtus Hollander of Kiron; Edgar and Edward of Ida Grove. Two sisters: Mrs. Hugo Reimer of Schleswig and Lilly Feddersen of Turner Valley, Canada. One brother: Robert of Battle Creek, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She attained the age of 70 years and five months.

Burial was made in the Morgan Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Willis Zabel, Orlan Abbe, Rodger Larson, M. C. Christiansen, LeRoy Burk and Elfred Meisner.

Laura E. (Moeller) Christiansen (1906 - 1984)

Laura E. Christiansen was born on Jan. 5, 1906, in Otter Creek Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the daughter of William P. and Wilhemina Hamann Moeller. She died on Aug. 8, 1984, at the Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake at the age of 78.

Laura was baptized as an infant in 1906 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, and later confirmed in the same church.

She was united in marriage to Otto Christiansen on June 2, 1926 near Schleswig. Together they farmed in Monona and Crawford Counties. A brief time after Mr. Christiansen's death in December of 1960, Laura moved into Schleswig. Since that time she has remained a resident of the Schleswig community.

In addition to her parents and husband, Laura was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Delores Mae, and two sisters, Lena and Laverne.

Survivors include one sister, Leona (Mrs. Ted Stiles) of Odebolt, and by several nieces and nephews, including Ronald Willer of Schaller, Melvin Willer of Battle Creek, Donna Buchler of Odebolt and Norma Hokannsen of Colorado.

Funeral services were held on Aug. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Fred Moore officiated at the services. Mrs. Evelyn Johnson served as organist with Rubie Kastner as soloist. Hymns included, "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "Take Thou My Hand and Lead Me." Pallbearers were Bonard Christiansen, John Snyder, Mark Langer, Norm O'Bannon, Randy Willer and LaVerne Christiansen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Leeta (Saylor) Calvin (1900 - 1987)

Leeta, daughter of Edward and Leora Vincent Saylor, was born July 3, 1900 at Solon, Iowa. She attended country schools. As a teenager Leeta moved to Manilla with her family.

On July 4, 1917 Leeta was united in marriage with Harold J. Calvin. Leeta and her husband made their home in Manilla where they operated Calvin's Store. Leeta was active in the business and made many friends in the Manilla area during the years she worked at the store.

Leeta's husband died in December of 1969 and she continued to make her home in Manilla moving to the Manilla Manor seven and one-half years ago. During her years in Manilla, Leeta was active in the Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Guild. She was a member of the Nishnabotna Club and a charter member of the Friendly Farmers Club.

Her family, especially her grandchildren, were of the utmost importance to Leeta and she enjoyed the many friends she made during all her years in business. She took special pride in her home and her yard.

Leeta died at the Manilla Manor on Wednesday evening, July 29, 1987 at the age of 87 years and 26 days.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; by a brother, Earl Saylor; and by two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Baker and Mrs. Nellie Saggau.

Leeta is survived by her daughter, Hazel and her husband, Dee Holmes of Manilla; by her son, Jim Calvin and his wife, Peggy of Lincoln, Neb.; by five grandchildren, Cynthia, Paul, John and Flint Calvin and Gregory Holmes; and by three great-grandchildren, Suzanne and Jon Holmes and Nicholas Calvin.

Services were held Aug. 2, 1987 at Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla with Pastor Frank Christ of the First Presbyterian Church of Manilla, officiating. Organist was Trudy Saunders. Interment was in the Nishnabotna Cemetery, Manilla. Pallbearers were Ray Jorgensen, Harvey Christensen, Bernie Jorgensen, Alvin Miller, Bob McLaren and Marvin Vennink. Honorary pallbearers were Milo Clark, Harold Olson, Neal Holmes, Jim Theobald, Charles Agan and Lester Boyens.

Lillie L. (Hamann) Johnson (1908 - 1967)

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 10, 1967, for Lillie L. Johnson with Rev. R. J. Ratzlaff officiating. Mrs. John Evers, organist accompanied Mrs. Ernie Grell and Mrs. Ray Martens who sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "My God and I".

Lillie L. Johnson was born on July 13, 1908 to Adolph Hamann and Anna nee Tanck in Morgan Township. On August 3, 1958 she was united in marriage to Gunnar Johnson.

She is survived by her husband, Gunnar, one daughter, Mary Ellen Ludwig, one son, Roy Johnson and her mother, Anna Hamann. She is also survived by five grandchildren, two brothers, Edmund and Robert and one sister Edna Bumann.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Dorcas and Women's Guild. She was a resident of this community since 1949, when she moved here from Ida County.

She was preceded in death by her father, her first husband, Marvin Wellendorf on November 21, 1957.

She attained the age of 58 years, 9 months and 25 days. She died at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove on May 8, 1967, due to a lingering illness.

Pallbearers were, Lea Nelson, Herbert Miller, James Fleener, Harry Wellendorf, Harvey Wellendorf and Raymond Johannsen. Interment was made at the Morgan Cemetery.

Lillie L. (Mohr) Seehusen (1901 - 1974)

Lillie L. Seehusen was born March 5, 1901, in Crawford County, the daughter of Ludolf and Emma (Stegeman) Mohr. On January 14, 1920, she was married to Fred Seehusen at Schleswig. Mrs. Seehusen was a life-long resident of this community and was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

She passed away at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison October 30, 1974, at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 26 days, following a lingering illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Fred in 1966 and by one brother.

Survivors include: two daughters Mrs. Vernon (Esther) Hulsebus of Carroll and Mrs. Roy (Mary Ellen) Gerberick of Tucson, Arizona; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Erma Tibbetts of Denison and two brothers, Fred Mohr of Cannon Falls, Minnesota and Albert Mohr of Denison.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 1, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig with Rev. R.J. Ratzlaff officiating. Mrs. Malinda Evers was the organist and Mrs. Harlan Buffum and Mrs. Don Meyer sang "Just as I am" and "In The Garden". Bearers were: Albert Mohr Jr., Ray R. Miller, Michael Mohr, Patrick Mohr, Arthur Nelson and Dale Jensen. Interment was in Morgan Cemetery.

Lillian Mathilda (Hollander) Schultz (1884 - 1970)

Funeral services for "Aunt Lillie" Schultz were held Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. The congregation sang, "I'm But a Stranger Here" and the choir, "There is an Hour of Peaceful Rest". Mrs. Ray Schmidt was the organist. Rev. F. A. Wiese, who officiated at the services, read the following obituary:

Lillian Mathilda, daughter of Amos Hollander and Marie Hindrichs, was born in Crawford County on September 5, 1884. Later the family moved and she grew up in the Charlotte, Iowa Community.

She was married June 2, 1904 to Doctor Walter H. Schultz, who was practicing medicine in the town of Schleswig. They had one son, Shirley. She lived as a doctor's wife until his death which occurred in November 1952. She continued to live in her home in Schleswig until 1965 when failing health made it necessary for her to make her home at Long View Old People's Home, Missouri Valley, Iowa. She died there on Saturday January 24th (1970). She was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran congregation and belonged to the Ladies Aid Society.

She is survived by her son, Shirley and daughter-in-law, Eileen of Woodbine, Iowa. Four grandchildren: Doctor Richard Schultz of Omaha, Dr. James Schultz of San Diego, California, Patricia, wife of Dr. Chris Birusingh of Omaha, and Tom, a student at Creighton University, Omaha; 8 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Loretta Miller of Schleswig and Roma Jepsen of Santa Barbara, California.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one grandson, John killed in an accident in Omaha. She attained to 85 years, 4 months and 19 days.

The pallbearers were: Lorenz Schultz, Loren Kastner, Larry Clausen, Norman Schultz, Gerald Pedersen, and Louis Schmadeke. Burial was made in the Morgan cemetery.

L. L. Cadwell (1872 - 1965)

Manning - Funeral services for L. L. Cadwell, 92, Manilla farmer were held July 26 (1965) at 2 p.m. at the Manilla Methodist church, with Rev. Willis Grant officiating. Interment was in Nishnabotna cemetery near Manilla.

He was born Dec. 19, 1872 at Moline, Ill., son of Edwin J. and Sara Ginn Cadwell, he lived near Vail and later near Manilla. He attended rural schools.

He was married on March 24, 1909. He lived on the same farm southeast of Manilla until three months ago, when he entered St. Anthony Nursing home in Carroll, where he died on July 23.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche and a son, Rae. Survivors include six children: Robert, Dillsboro, Ind.: Edith, Mrs. L. B. Weible, Kimballton; Ross, Buck Grove; Hal, Manilla; Vyrl, Botna; Letha, Mrs. Paul Abel, Walnut; 26 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

Lois Elaine (Kuhlmann) Clausen (1937 - 1988)

Lois Elaine Clausen was born on January 25, 1937, the daughter of William and Marie Hagemann Kuhlmann, at Ricketts, Iowa. She was baptized in April, 1937, and confirmed on May 28, 1950, in the Lutheran faith. Lois attended Morgan No. 9 School and graduated from the Charter Oak High School with the class of 1954.

On December 25, 1954, she and Delmer Clausen were united in marriage at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ricketts. This union was blessed with three children. They made their home on a farm at rural Schleswig. Lois was employed as a secretary for the Schleswig Community Schools for 18 years. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ricketts, a Sunday School teacher, a Vacation Bible School teacher, a member of the Church choir and the Ladies Aid.

Lois passed away on February 5, 1988, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 51 years.

Lois was preceded in death by one daughter, Tori Lyn on October 10, 1962.

Survivors include her husband, Delmer; son, Kevin Clausen of Ricketts; and daughter, Kelly and her husband, Jerry McCaw of Bellevue, Nebraska. Also surviving are her parents, William and Marie Kuhlmann of Ricketts; brothers: Norman Kuhlmann of Milwaukie, Oregon, Wayne Kuhlmann of Ricketts, Darrell Kuhlmann of Des Moines, Dennis Kuhlmann of Hastings, Nebraska and Thomas Kuhlmann of Beaver, Pennsylvania; sisters: Mrs. Donna Berks of Humboldt; Betty, Mrs. Ronnie Mefferd of Omaha; Carol, Mrs. Gayle Schiltz of Humboldt, and Lynn, Mrs. Morris Holcomb of Bellevue, Nebraska; nephews, nieces and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 9, 1988, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ricketts. Vicar Robert Hines officiated at the service and graveside rites at the Morgan Township Cemetery near Schleswig. Mrs. Marlene Lee served as organist for Mr. and Mrs. Henry Henningsen and congregational singing. Selections were "How Great Thou Art", "Asleep in Jesus" and "I'm But A Stranger Here". Serving as pallbearers were Milford Schultz, Paul Briggle, Paul Schwarz, Steve Garrett, Vernon Stockfleth and Kenneth Baak.

Lois Arlene (Wessel) Petersen (1928 - 1979)

Lois Arlene Petersen was born on June 5, 1928, at Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Freda Rademacher Wessel. She died on Saturday, August 11, 1979, at the Floyd Valley Hospital, LeMars, Iowa, at the age of 51.

Lois was raised near Charter Oak and Dow city, Iowa. She received her education in the rural schools near Dow City and Denison, Iowa. She was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church.

On June 19, 1949, Lois was united in marriage to Robert Petersen at Zion Lutheran Church. They made their home in Denison and Mason City before moving to LeMars, Iowa. Lois was employed in LeMars before she retired due to ill health.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Dorothy. Survivors include one daughter Diane and two sons Rick and Rod all of LeMars. Also by two brothers, Delmar Wessel of Denison and Lloyd Wessel of Ida Grove and five sisters, Florence, Mrs. Henry Preul of Denison, Esther, Mrs. Edward Sonnichsen also of Denison, Helen, Mrs. Oluf Olson of Deloit, Leva, Mrs. Vahn Schumacher of Battle Creek and Lila Mae, Mrs. Donald Kline of Schleswig.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 14, 1979, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's American Lutheran Church, LeMars, Iowa. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery at Denison. The Rev. Thomas Lee officiated at the services. Pallbearers included Scott Lauters, Mark Buhman, Rick McDougell, Rick Baack, Joe Ashmore and Mark Herzberg. Honorary pallbearers included Ron Hargens, Wayne Kommes, Gary Schmidt, Kent Hanstein, Jerry DeBoer, Curt Vanderloo and Phil Groetken.

Lorenz Boyens (1891 - 1970)

Funeral services for Lorenz Boyens, 79, of Ricketts were held Thursday, December 24, 1970 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ricketts. Rev. F.A. Wiese officiated. Mrs. Marlene Lee was the organist and the congregation sang "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "There Is An Hour of Peaceful Rest".

Lorenz Alfred Boyens of Ricketts, son of Henry Boyens and his wife Anna Lorenzen was born November 3, 1891 in Goodrich Township.

He was married to Wilhelmina Ladwig at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, with Pastor Frese performing the ceremony. After their marriage, the couple farmed first in Goodrich Township, then from 1922 in Soldier Township. In 1945, the couple retired to Ricketts where they were living at the time of his death.

Lorenz died in his sleep at home early Tuesday morning, December 22. He was one of the founders of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and served as a trustee of the congregation. The couple celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 1963.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife Wilhelmina; three children, Raymond of Charter Oak; Viola, wife of Fred Jess of Galva; and Irene, wife of Meinert Jensen of Ricketts, nine grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. He attained to 79 years, 1 month and 19 days.

Pallbearers were: Raymond Hansen, Edward Ladwig, William Ladwig, Vernon Hansen, Melvin Ladwig and Walter Walde. Interment was in Morgan Township Cemetery.

Lorenz Reincke (1952 - 1969)

Funeral services for Lorenz Reincke were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Tuesday, February 25 with the Rev. F. A. wise officiating. Mrs. Garnet Schmidt was the organist. The choir sang "Be Still, My Soul," and the congregation sang, "Nearer My God, To Thee."

Lorenz Myron Reincke, son of Leslie Reincke and Ruth nee Schultz, was born October 23rd, 1952 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital. He was baptized December 14th, 1952 and confirmed April 3rd, 1966 by Pastor Frederick A. Wiese at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig.

He grew up in this community, attending the Schleswig school. He was a good student and very well-liked by both his class mates and instructors. He was a Junior at the time of his death. He had been ill approximately one month and died at St. Joseph's, Sioux City, early Saturday morning.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Reincke, two brothers, Leslie Junior and Larry. Two grandparents: Mrs. Lillian Reincke of Schleswig and Mrs. Marie Schultz of Charter Oak. He attained to 16 years, three months and 29 days.

Pallbearers were Leon Maas, Steven Drake, Bruce Schmadeke, Lloyd Schultz, Lewis Moeller, and Alan Boeck. Interment was made in the Morgan Township Cemetery.

Louie H. Christiansen (1893 - 1980)

Louie H. Christiansen was born Oct. 28, 1893, at Charter Oak, the son of Anton and Wilhelmina Priene Christiansen. He died Mar. 27, 1980, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, at the age of 86.

Louie was raised on a family farm. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home. For a short time the family made their home in South Dakota, where they farmed.

On April 7, 1919, Louie was united in marriage to Agnes Brogan at Sioux City. They made their first home on a farm northwest of Denison and farmed in the Denison community until retirement in 1955. Since that time they have made their home in Denison. Louie was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Jo, four brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes of Denison, three sons, LaVern of Earling, Orville of Denison and Thomas of Denison, four daughters, Rita, Mrs. Andy Wiebers of Denison, Sylvia, Mrs. Robert Pearson of Des Moines, Betty, Mrs. Don Eggers of Denison and LaVonne, Mrs. Wesley Stoelk of Westside and by 29 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Also by two brothers, Henry of Denison and Ben of Mapleton and one sister, Mrs. Lena Meyer of Wall Lake.

Funeral services were held Mar. 29 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Denison. Burial was in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery; Father Lloyd W. White officiated at the Mass and graveside rites. Grandsons serving as pallbearers were William Christiansen, Larry Wiebers, Ted Christiansen, Jay Eggers, Joe Christiansen and Scot Stoelk. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Louie John Jensen (1888 - 1968)

Louie John Jensen, son of Peter Henry and Louise Mueller Jensen was born on Sept. 3, 1888 in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He received his education in rural schools.

On Dec. 19, 1912 he was united in marriage to Miss Dora Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. Jensen lived on a farm until December 1941 when they moved to Denison.

Mr. Jensen enjoyed good health until about five years ago. The last two years he has been bed fast and in failing health. He died at his home on Thursday, Feb. 6 (1968), at the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 12 days.

(Note: part of this paragraph faded out considerably) Survivors are his widow, two sisters: Mrs. F?--- Woodruff and Mrs. John Sachau ...both of ?. He was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters. Louie was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Denison for the last year.

Funeral sevices were held Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. John MIddents, officiating.

Hugo F. Ernst (1908 - 1964)

Funeral services for Hugo F. Ernst were held Monday at the United Church of Christ (E&R). Mrs. Ernie Grell and Mrs. Ray Martens sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Heaven is My Home." They were accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Broder Petersen. Rev. Walter Baumgartner read the following obituary:

Hugo Fredrick Ernst, son of Charlie Ernst and his wife, nee Anna Heesch, was born on February 17th, 1908 in Morgan Township, Crawford County, Iowa. Mr. Ernst was baptized and received into the membership of the United Church of Christ through confirmation. On September 28, 1932 he was married to Gertrude Backhaus. The couple lived on the farm west of Schleswig.

Mr. Ernst had the misfortune to lose one of his arms many years ago. Just before Easter he entered St. Joseph's hospital at Sioux City for an operation on his arm. Right after the operation he had a heart attack from which he never recovered. He died, Friday morning, April 3, (1964) at about 6:30.

He is survived by his widow, Gertrude, six children: Norma, Mrs. Gerald Lyman of Webster City, Iowa; Charles of Columbus, Georgia; Bernadine, Mrs. Paul Kragel of Charter Oak, Iowa; Marlene, Mrs. Alfred Jensen of Sioux City, Iowa; Jolene, Mrs. John Hoefling of Odebolt, Iowa and Hugo at home.

Eight grandchildren; one sister, Clara, Mrs. Sylvester Schwieso, Danbury, Iowa and one brother, Raymond of Sioux City.

Burial was made in the Morgan cemetery. The pallbearers were: Alvin Stier, Milroy Ernst, Vern Kruse, Carl Backhaus, Herbert Ernst and Pershing Radden.

Hilda Friederika Wilhelmina Baker (1902 - 1964)

Funeral services for Hilda Baker were held Tuesday, October 27, 1964, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Rev. F.A. Wiese officiating. Music was by Mrs. Ray Schmidt, organist; hymns were "I'm But a Stranger Here" by the choir, and "In the Cross of Christ I Glory" by the congregation.

Hilda Friederika Wilhelmina Baker, daughter of Albert Baker and Henrietta nee Stehr was born on August 22, 1902 at Kiron. She was baptized in St. John's Lutheran Church by Pastor F. Wolter and confirmed there by Pastor Richter on April 1, 1917. With her parents, she moved to Schleswig in 1918. Because of ill health, she has lived at home with the family all her life. She was a member of the Lutheran congregation for 46 years.

She was preceded in death by her brother Paul who died at the age of three, her father Albert, who died in 1955, and her sister Elsie Moeller, who died in 1960. She is survived by her mother Henrietta. She attained 62 years, 2 months and 3 days.

Pallbearers were Henry Stehr, August Stehr, Herbert Baker, Vernie Baker, LeRoy Friedrichsen and Louie Thiede. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Stockholm township.

Hulda Fredericka Caroline (Baak) Christiansen (1885 - 1969)

Funeral services for Mrs. Julius Christiansen were held Tuesday, July 15, 1969 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township with the Rev. E.E. Greene, officiating. Mrs. Loren Seils was the organist and the congregation sang "Be Still, My Soul" and "Abide With Me."

Hulda Fredericka Caroline Christiansen, daughter of the late William and Caroline Baak was born September 15, 1885 on a farm near Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and served her church and community for many years.

On October 1, 1905 she was united in marriage to Julius Christiansen of Charter Oak. To this union one son, William Edward was born. Mr. and Mrs. Christiansen made their home on a farm near Ricketts before moving to Ricketts in 1920. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary three years ago.

Mrs. Christiansen died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, Saturday July 12, 1969 after a prolonged illness. She was 83 years, nine months and 17 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Julius, one son, William Edward, of Westchester, Illinois, one grandson, one sister, Emma, Mrs. Ola Boatman of Lancaster, California and a host of friends.

Pallbearers were Bonard Christiansen, Robert Christiansen, Elmer Meyer, LaVern Christiansen, Arthur Gosch, and Herbert Teut. Interment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier Township.

Hulda (Brockmann) Petersen (1884 - 1978)

Hulda Petersen was born on February 8, 1884, at Hayes Township, Ida County, Iowa, the daughter of Claus and Catherina Brockmann. She died on May 12, 1978, at the Odebolt Colonial Manor at the age of 94.

Hulda was raised in Hayes Township on a farm and received her formal education in the rural schools. She was baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa.

On August 18, 1902, Hulda was united in marriage to Peter W. Petersen at Hayes Township. Together they made their home on a farm in Hanover Township. Peter died in 1963 and Hulda continued to live on the farm until 1968 when she moved to Schleswig. For the past five years she has made her home at the Odebolt Colonial Manor.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Hulda was preceded in death by one son Bernhard, one granddaughter, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include: three sons, Jurgen, C. Henry and Emil all of Schleswig, Iowa; one daughter, Elsie, Mrs. Fred Carstensen of Ida Grove, Iowa; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Also by one sister, Ella, Mrs. Carl Friedrichsen of Odebolt.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 16, 1978, at 2:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery. The Rev. Theodore Letzring officiated at the services. Pallbearers included Werth Grill, Raymond Jepsen, Bill Brockmann, Lorenz Petersen, Elmer Petersen and Edmund Petersen.

Icelene R. (Elwell) Ewoldt (1919 - 1988)

Icelene R. Ewoldt, known to her friends as "Ike," was the daughter of Ralph and Hattie Meyers Elwell. She was born Feb. 26, 1919 in Astor in Crawford County, Ia., and died March 23, 1988, at the Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, at the age of 69 years and 27 days.

She was baptized at the Methodist Church in Manilla, and attended school in Manilla, graduating with the High School Class of 1936. She then taught country school for several years.

In 1939 she was united in marriage to Alfred Walter in Manilla. She was employed as a cook for the Manilla Schools. Alfred died on Aug. 18, 1959.

She continued as a cook until she married Ralph Ewoldt in 1962. They farmed near Manilla until Ralph's death in 1971. She moved to Audubon, and cooked at McCort's Restaurant for a short time. She was employed by the Friendship Home in Audubon as a cook for several years before becoming the Dietary Supervisor at the Home where she served in that capacity until she retired in 1986.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon; a member of the Rebekah Lodge No. 459 and Federated Women's Club in Audubon and belonged to many neighborhood card clubs.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husbands were her parents; an infant sister, Rose Marie Elwell and an infant brother, Ralph Elwell, Jr.

Ida (Rickert) Baak (1888 - 1967)

Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Baak were held on Thursday, October 19, 1967, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier township, Rev. E.E. Green officiated, Mrs. Fred Rabe, organist accompanied the congregation as they sang "Abide With Me" and "Asleep in Jesus."

Ida Baak, daughter of Joachim and Anna, nee Hinkley Rickert was born May 9, 1888 in Hanover Township. She was confirmed in Hanover by Rev. C. Runge. On June 23, 1909 she was united into marriage to Richard Baak in Soldier Township and to this marriage two children were born.

The couple farmed until 1948 when they retired and moved into Ricketts. Mr. Baak died on February 5, 1964 and in 1965 she moved on the far with her son Edward.

She is survived by one son, Edward and one daughter, Esther, Mrs. Raymond Hannemann of Canby, Oregon, also survived by ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two brothers, William of Ricketts, Edward of Mapleton and one sister, Mrs. Ricka Heubner of Denison.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, five grandchildren, five brothers and two sisters. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison On Tuesday, Oct. 17. She attained the age of 79 years, 4 months and 8 days.

Pallbearers were; Kenneth Baak, Vernon Hollrah, Waldo Rickert, Herbert Bohlmann, Harvey Muckey and Walter Rickert. Interment was made in the (cemetery) at Soldier Township.

Ida (Lorenzen) Evers (1882 - 1977)

Ida Evers was born on Oct. 24, 1882 at Goodrich Township in Crawford County, the daughter of Johanna and Andreas Lorenzen. She died on Monday, June 6, 1977 at Minneapolis, Minn. at the age of 94.

As a young girl she was raised in Crawford County and received her education in the Denison schools. At the completion of her education she worked for her father in the County Treasurer's office.

On Jan. 8, 1902 Ida was united in marriage to Louie Evers. To this union were blessed six children. After the death of her husband Louie in 1941, she resided with her children until October 1975 when due to health she entered the Fridley Convalescent Home. She continued to live there until her death.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Ida was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy and one son, Louie.

Survivors include three daughters, Ida, Mrs. Carl Johnson of Columbia Heights, Minn., Marie, Mrs. Horace Westcott of Burnsville, Minn. and Ellen, Mrs. Robert Guthrie of Charlotte, N.C. and one son, Loren C. Evers of Los Angeles, Calif. Also by 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and one brother, Andrew Lorenzen of Long Beach, Calif.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 9, at 1:00 p.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home, Denison. Burial was made in the Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Byron Surface officiated at the services.

Ida Anna (Burk) Spahn (1879 - 1962)

Schleswig - Funeral services for Mrs. John Spahn were held Dec. 21 at the Immanuel Lutheran church. The choir sang as did the congregation. Mrs. Ray Schmidt was organist, Rev. Fredrich A. Wiese officiated.

Ida Anna, daughter of Conrad and Friederike Burk, was born April 7, 1879 at Waterloo. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran church, Grant Township. On March 19, 1902 she was married to John Spahn by pastor Amstein of Trinity Lutheran church. The couple farmed in Ida County for six years then two years in Woodbury county. They moved to Schleswig in 1910.

Ida Spahn had not been well the past few years and recently broke her hip. She died at the Denison hospital on Dec. 18 (1962). She was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran church and also belonged to the Ladies Aid.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, Arthur of Storm Lake and Raymond of Edwardsville, Ill., four grandchildren, two sisters, Amanda Petersen of Schleswig and Mary Fuester of Ida Grove, one brother, Charley Burk of Schleswig.

She attained to 82 years, eight months and 13 days. Burial was made in the Morgan cemetery. Pallbearers were Ray Abbe, Walter Burk, Robert Zabel, Cyrenus Petersen, Hugo Reimer and Harley Burk.

Ingeburg Dorothea Fink (1888 - 1973)

Ingeburg Dorothea Fink, daughter of Fred B. and Ingeburg Dorothy (Petersen) was born in Schleswig Holstein, Germany on Nov. 5, 1888 and died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital here on Sunday, May 20, 1973.

Mrs. Fink attended rural schools, was baptized and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

She was united in marriage to Charles Daniel Fink in 1910. They made their home on a farm in Crawford county until retiring to Denison in 1945. To this union two children were born. Mrs. Fink was an active member of the Dorcas Society and her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one daughter, Ione, two brothers, Soenke and Peter and four sisters, Tena, Ricka, Lena and Margerete. She is survived by her son Robert of Deloit and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 23, 1973 at the Zion Lutheran church here with Rev. Robert Maschke officiating. Burial was at the Oakland Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Huebner Funeral Home.
