Meta O. Baak (1905 - 1994)
Meta O. Baak was born October 27, 1905, the daughter of Otto and Augusta Maas Baak. She died Sunday, April 3, 1994 at the Denison Care Center at the age of eighty-eight years.Meta grew up on a farm in Soldier Township near Charter Oak and was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church there. The received her education in a rural school near her home and also in the Lutheran school at Immanuel.
She made her home with her parents and helped them on the farm before moving to Charter Oak in 1968 and remained there until moving to the Denison Care Center in 1990. She enjoyed caring for her vegetable and flower gardens in her leisure time, and loved baking.
Meta was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Julius, Henry and Paul. Survivors include one sister, Verna Baak Pithan of Charter Oak; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Ruth Baak of Charter Oak, and Mrs. Alberta Baak of Clarinda, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, April 6, 1994 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa with Rev. Eugene Ernst officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier Township, Charter Oak. Creta Teut provided the organ accompaniment for solsist, Henry Henningsen singing "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But A Stranger Here" and congregational hymn "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Pallbearers were: Wayne Harmening, Verdell Wodtke, Donnie Koch, Edwin Hopp, David Bruhn and Dale Bruhn. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them for lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.

Mildred (Quandt) Braasch (1909 - 1997)
Mildred Braasch was born July 1, 1909, the daughter of Max and Dora Blunk Quandt. She died Monday, September 22, 1997 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-eight.Mildred was born on a farm east of Charter Oak, Iowa, where she lived with her parents. She was baptized in Christ on August 29, 1909 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township and later confirmed on April 13, 1924 at the St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak. She received her education at a rural school near her home.
On April 19, 1931, Mildred was united in marriage to Henry Braasch at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township by Rev. Runge. The couple settled on a farm near Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of five children.
Mildred worked at the Nielson Hotel, Denison Country Club and Midwestern College. She also cooked at Iowa Beef and babysat for Jim and Peggy Magden, Kyle and Betty Petersen, Vertus and Marlys Groth.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Deloit and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church, Denison and their Ladies Aid. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed baking and playing cards with her grandchildren. Mildred also loved playing bingo and other board games.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry in 1975, two sons, Gilbert in 1934, Kenneth in 1992, one daughter, Joan in 1936, two sons-in-law, Arnie Wulf in 1987, Ray Mulligan in 1988 and one grandson, Kevin in 1960. Also, one brother, Herbert Quandt and his wife, Anna; and one sister, Edna Boeck and her husband, Carl.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Wulf and special friend, Bill Vaughn; Connie Mulligan; one daughter-in-law, Darlene Braasch, all of Deloit; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson; one sister, Caroline Petersen and her husband, Richard of Charter Oak; also many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 A.M., Thursday, September 25, 1997 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Deloit, Iowa. Rev. Hilmer Hafner officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Hanover Township, Charter Oak. Erna Mae Aldag provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me", "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "Crown Him with Many Crowns". Those serving as honorary Pallbearers were: Theresa Mulligan, Susan Higginbottom, Kelly Young, Debbie Braasch, Sandy Wulf and Kim Moore. Pallbearers were: Sherman Higginbottom, Tim Mulligan, Kevin Braasch, Craig Young, Brett Moore and Rick Wulf The family invited everyone in attendance dt the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. Mildred (Boeck) Craig (1903 - 1991)
Mildred Craig was born June 2, 1903, the daughter of George and Ella Reimers Boeck. She died Sept. 19, 1991 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 88 years.Mildred was born on the family farm in Nishnabotna Township and attended the Nishnabotna School where she graduated from the eighth grade. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
After receiving her education, Mildred continued to live on the family farm until Sept. 17, 1924 when she was united in marriage to Louie Meyer at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison, Iowa.
The couple settled on the Meyer family farm where they were blessed with the birth of two children. In 1946, Louie died and Mildred continued to live and work on the farm.
On February 14, 1951, Mildred was united in marriage to Paul Craig, in Denison and the couple made their home on the farm until 1979 when they moved to Denison. Paul died in 1990 and Mildred continued to live in Denison.
Mildred was a loving mother and devoted wife. In her spare time, she enjoyed the rock and flower garden she had at her home, and her personality and character were well defined by the sense of humor she maintained throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Louie Meyer; husband Paul Craig and one daughter, Betty McCoid in December of 1985.
Survivors include one daughter Eula Scheuermann and her husband Earl of Boone and one son-in-law Keith McCoid of Bayard; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Sat., Sept. 21, 1991 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with Pastor Kurt Kaiser and Pastor Philip E. Bloch officiating the service and the grave side rites at the Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for Renae Claussen solo selections of "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and "The Lord's Prayer", and the congregational hymn "Beautiful Savior". Honorary pallbearers were Leonard Ahrenholtz, Robert H. Meyer, Danny Strissel and Robert Boeck. Pallbearers were: Robert Waterbury, Ellsworth Schechinger, Jerry Strissel, Charles Boeck, Lyle Freese and Keith Freese. Huebner Funeral Home of Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Mildred Pearl (McGee) Peterson (1902 - 1989)
Mildred Pearl Peterson, the daughter of Frank and Ethel Hascall McGee, was born July 30, 1902, at Emerson, Ia. She died on Oct. 7, 1989, at the Jenny Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, at the age of eighty seven years.Mildred at the age of six years, moved with her parents to a farm near Woodbine. She attended rural school. After graduating from the eighth grade, she worked with her parents on the farm and assisted others who needed her help.
On Dec. 9, 1921, she was united in marriage to Harry Peterson. They made their home on farms near Woodbine, Dow City and Charter Oak. They were blessed with one daughter, Eldene and two sons, Dale and Walter. They retired in 1983, and made their home in Charter Oak, where she lived until the time of her death. Her husband Harry died April 14, 1985.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; one brother, Arthur; one sister, Edna; and one son-in-law, Leonard Abbott.
Survivors include one daughter, Eldene Abbott of Charter Oak; two sons, Dale and his wife, Janice of Sac City, Walter and his wife, Lola of Adair; 11 grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Bert and his wife, Belva of Logan; and one sister, Helen Peterson of Council Bluffs.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak. Rev. Jeff Dadisman officiated at the services with interment at the Charter Oak Cemetery at Charter Oak. Mrs. Dean Hunter was organist and Henry Henningsen, soloist. Selections were "Rock of Ages" and "Abide With Me." Honorary pallbearers were Nancy Bellcock, Pat Laursen, Vicki Dehner and Cindy Lundy. Pallbearers included Robert Abbott, Gene Abbott, Kevin Abbott, Dennis Peterson, Darin Peterson, Darryl Peterson and Mark Peterson. Minna C. (Meyer) Gosch (1908 - 1986)
Minna C. Gosch, 78, of Ute, died Aug. 19, 1986, in the Denison hospital after a short illness.Services were at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 22, in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. Pastor Robert Leege officiated. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery. Walter Funeral Home in Ute was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gosch, the former Minna Meyer, was born Aug. 5,1908, near Ricketts, the daughter of August and Dorothea (Hamann) Meyer.
She married Erhard Gosch March 2, 1930, in Soldier Township, Crawford County. The couple farmed southeast of Ute for several years and then owned and operated the Berne Country Store at Berne for several years.
Mr. Gosch died Oct. 6, 1968, and she moved into Ute in 1969. Mrs. Gosch was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid of the church, Lutheran Missionary League, past Sunday School and Confirmation class teacher and past member of the choir. She was a past member of the Lamp Lighters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and one great grandson.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Elden (Marjorie) Goslar of Ute; two sons, Norman of Ute and Sherman of Urbandale; a sister, Mrs. Dora Neubauer of Schleswig; grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons; Byron Goslar, Richard Goslar, Gregg Goslar, Dwight Goslar, Bernie Goslar, Brad Gosch and Christopher Gosch.

Minna Louise (Geise) Wollenhaupt (1909 - 1999)
Minna Louise Wollenhaupt was born May 24, 1909 in Kohlstadt Germany and died on Sunday, February 7, 1999 at home surrounded by her family. She was 89 years 8 months and 14 days old.Minnie was the daughter of Heinrich and Marie Geise. She was baptized, confirmed and educated in Germany. Minnie came to the United States in 1928 at the age of 19. She has many fond memories of her first years in this country when she cared for the family of Dr. Johnson of Council Bluffs, IA. The Johnson family with their two young boys loved Minnie as a member of their family.
Minnie left the Johnsons' employment in 1936 when she married Bill Wollenhaupt and joined him in Schleswig where he owned and operated Bill's Market. Bill and Minnie ran the store and butcher shop together until 1965 when Bill was seriously injured in an auto accident. Minnie continued to run the business until they retired in 1967. Minnie was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Order of Eastern Star.
Minnie was a complex woman, making her life, qualities, and passions difficult to put into words. No one worked harder or longer, never asking to be noticed or thanked. Her life was devoted to serving others. By example, she set standards for us to strive for. She was a good mother and "Grandma" to everyone we brought home. She could tease, joke, fight and feed it all-better. Feeding people was a passion as was her genuine love of flowers.
Minnie is survived by her husband Bill, two daughters, and four grandchildren. Daughters: Marie Reineck with husband Bob; and Linda DuShane. Grandchildren: Bob Reineck with wife Lynne and children Dustin and Amber; Scott Noll; Christie Buckrop with husband Bradley and daughter Melinda; and John Reineck with wife Anne and daughters Becky and Tessa. Minnie is also survived by: her brother Fritz Geise with wife Hertha; her sisters, Irene Bumann with husband, Bob, Louise Geise, and Irma Numann with husband Harold; her sisters-in-law Emma Geise, Esther Geise, and Anneliesa Geise. Preceding her in death were her parents, six brothers, and one grandson.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at the United Church of Christ, Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Gordon Hoyt officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery, Schleswig. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Rubie Kastner singing "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset" and processional hymn "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were: Kurt Wollenhaupt, Bradley Buckrop, Dennis Bumann, John Reineck, Bob Reineck, Fred Geise and Scott Noll. An Eastern Star Service was held at 7:30 P.M., Tuesday, February 9, 1999 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Women's Guild. Minnie Sophie (Neubauer) Korner (1902 - 1984)
Minnie Sophie Korner was born on Dec. 12, 1902 in Grant Township, Ida County, Iowa, the daughter of Fritz and Augusta Eagebrecht Neubauer. She died May 23, 1984, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, at the age of 81.Minnie spent her formative years on a family farm. She recieved her formal education in the rural schools near her home. She was baptized as an infant in 1903 and later during the years of her education she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1918.
On Dec. 6, 1922, Minnie was united in marriage to Arthur Korner in Rockwell City. Together they farmed near Battle Creek and Schleswig until their retirement in 1946. After Mr. Korner's death in 1970, Minnie continued to make her home in Schleswig. Due to failing health, Minnie became a resident of the Denison Care Center in December of 1982.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Minnie was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Herbert and Herman and three sisters, Margaret, Frieda and Ella.
Survivors include one son Donald and his wife Dorothy of Schleswig, three grandchildren, Dennis Korner of Schleswig, Connie, Mrs. Ken Schau of Sioux Rapids and Mike Korner and his wife Cathy of Schleswig. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Mary, Mrs. Arnold Burow, Jossie, Mrs. Herb Stier and Mrs. Alma Mohrhauser, all of Battle Creek.
Funeral services were held May 25, at 2:00 P.M. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Richard Nelson officiated at the services. Mrs. Leroy Hight served as organist with Immanuel Ladies Choir. Hymns included, Be Still My Soul and I'm But A Stranger Here. Pallbearers were Francis Bierman, Wendell Bierman, Gilbert Mohrhauser, Leon Neubauer, Melvin Baker and Kevin Neubauer. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Minnie Louise (Jaacks) Boyens (1902 - 1999)
Minnie Louise Boyens was born April 3, 1902, the daughter of Herman and Dorthea Kohlhof Jaacks. She died Tuesday, April 13, 1999 at the Eventide Lutheran Home, Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-seven years and ten days.Minnie was born in Goodrich Township, Denison, Iowa and was baptized in Christ September 10, 1902 in the Lutheran Parsonage in Denison by Rev. Lothringer. She received her education in a rural school near her home and was later confirmed on June 13, 1931. After completing her education, Minnie worked for various families in their homes.
On February 22, 1922, Minnie was united in marriage to Herman Boyens at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage, Denison, Iowa. The couple settled on the Boyens family farm in Hanover Township, where they farmed for fifty years and were blessed with the birth of two daughters.
Herman died on November 15, 1971 and Minnie moved to Denison on September 4, 1972. Minnie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Zion Ladies Aid member since 1938. She was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed sewing and gardening. Minnie was a excellent cook and in her leisure time, she enjoyed socializing in a game of cards at the Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Meinhardt, John and Herbert Jaacks, two sisters, Elizabeth Boyens and Hedwig Schwitzer.
Survivors include two daughters, Marion Petersen and her husband, Edmund; Laverne Christiansen and her husband, LaVerne, all of Denison; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; one sister, Marie Krayniski of Omaha; also many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, April 16, 1999 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Daniel Gifford officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Onward, Christian Soldiers", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Those serving as pallbearers were: Robert and Lanette Matthiesen, Larry and Marianne Petersen, Lowell and Theresa Petersen, Lee and LaJean Shiney. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. Minnie (Kahl) Miller (1900 - 1979)
Minnie Miller was born on Dec. 22, 1900 near Denison, Iowa, the daughter of August and Kathrina Kahler Kahl. She died Jan. 15, 1979 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, at the age of 78.Minnie was raised on a family farm near Denison. She received the major portion of her formal education in the rural schools near her home. She was baptized, and later during the year of her confirmation in the Lutheran faith attended the Lutheran school in Denison.
On Dec. 20, 1922 Minnie was united in marriage to Earnest Miller at her family home near Denison. Together they farmed near Denison until their retirement in 1966. Later in 1972 they moved to Denison, where they have since made their home. Minnie was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church as well as a long time member of its Ladies Aid.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Anna.
Survivors include, her husband, Earnest of Denison, one daughter, Mary, Mrs. Gerald Hulsebus, four grandchildren, Jerry, Janet, Terry and Ernie Joe and five great grandchildren. Also by one brother, Herman Kahl of Buck Grove.
Funeral services were held Jan. 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. The Rev. Jack Heck officiated at the services. Pallbearers included, Melvin Bandow, Edwin Bandow, Glenn Petersen, Boyd Hulsebus, Robert Ahart and Barney Oldfield. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Minnie (Namanny) Vogt (1906 - 2002)
Minnie Vogt was born May 19, 1906, the daughter of Henry and Matilda Weidemann Namanny. She died March 31, 2002, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-five.Minnie was born in Schleswig, Iowa and was baptized in Christ at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township and was confirmed on March 28, 1920 at St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Iowa. She attended rural school near her home and after school, worked on the family farm with her parents.
On October 20, 1926, Minnie was united in marriage to John (Jack) Vogt at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. The couple was blessed with the birth of seven children and made their home on various farms in and around the Crawford County area, including Ricketts, Charter Oak, Holstein, and Boyer.
She was a loving wife, mother, and foster mother who, in her spare time, enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, crocheting, and playing euchre and other spirited games. She loved socializing with friends and family and was also an excellent cook who could always make something out of nothing. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons: Leonard and Gerald; and one daughter, Unabell; one grandchild, James Brown; five brothers, Vernon, Bill, John, Lawrence, and Julius; and one sister, Hertha Creese.
She is survived by two sons: DuWayne and his wife, Helen of Galva, Iowa and Donald Vogt and Sarah, of Omaha; two daughters: Yvonne Brown and her husband, Tom of Long Pine, Nebraska, and Colleen Ashfield and her husband, Ron of Portland, Oregon; one daughter-in-law, Marcelene Vogt of Dow City; six-een grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lillian Schneider of Bull Head City, Arizona, and Marie Pierce of Santa Clara, California; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2002 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Beth Vogt singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound" and congregational hymn "Abide With Me! Fast Falls the Eventide". Honorary pallbearers were Albert Furness, Ralph Dorale, Mike Albers, Terry Long, Barry Clark and Randy Sly. Myrtle C. (Taylor) Schultz (1908 - 1995)
Myrtle C. Schultz, 86, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away early Saturday morning, February 18, 1995, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital. She was a resident of the Heritage House.The daughter of Nels and Regina Holverson Taylor, she was born on a farm near Boyer, Iowa on August 1, 1908 and was one of ten children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Mission Covenent Church in Odebolt.
She attended rural school in Crawford County and graduated from the Odebolt High School in 1926 and also attended several years at Iowa State College at Ames.
Myrtle taught schools in Crawford and Sac Counties before her marriage to Walter Schultz on September 11, 1938 in Ida Grove, Iowa. They owned and managed a general store in Ricketts, Iowa until 1952, when they moved to Schleswig, Iowa. They moved to Atlantic in 1973.
Surviving are two daughters, Regina Moxley-Staab and husband, Steve of Overland park, Kansas; and Sandra Landsness and husband, Roland of Atlantic; a grandson, Mark Moxley or Overland Park, Kansas; a great granddaughter, Meghan Moxley of Overland Park, Kansas; also two sisters-in-law, Pauline Taylor of Wall Lake, Iowa and Jane Taylor of Olympia, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter, five sisters and 4 brothers.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 20, 1995 at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa, with Rev. Allen D. Hellwege officiating. Music was provided by organist, Sharon Mathias. They hymns "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", "Beautiful Savior" and "Amazing Grace" were sung. Serving as Pall Bearers was Ed Freese, Karl Aldag, Wayne Paulsen, Earl Wiechmann and Phil Weldner.
Interment was at Hanover Cemetery, Ricketts, Iowa. The funeral was under the direction of Roland Funeral Service, Atlantic, Iowa.

Myrtle M. (Cose) Kelsey (1903 - 1998)
Myrtle M. Kelsey, 95, of Sioux City died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at Sunrise Retirement Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Hornick, Iowa with the Rev. Ed Elliott officiating. Private burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.Mrs. Kelsey was born June 14, 1903, in Deloit, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Cora (Brogden) Cose. She attended public school in Deloit.
She married C. Paul Kelsey May 14, 1923, in Denison, Iowa. The couple lived in Hornick, Iowa. During World War II, they moved to Tacoma, Wash., where she was employed in the shipyards. They returned to Hornick in 1946.
He died March 25, 1954. She was employed as a cook-coordinator in the Westwood Community Schools in Hornick from 1953 until her retirement in 1973.
She was a member of the Hornick United Methodist Church where she was active in many of the women's groups. She was also a former member of the Library Club.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Donald and Barbara Kelsey of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Scott Kelsey, Susan Koch, David Kelsey, and Steven Kelsey; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Opal Hansen of Denison, and Bernice and her husband, Cleo Robinson, of Danbury, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Robert Boyd of Burdette, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Irene Cose of Maurice, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Charles and Keith, two sisters, Mildred Boyd and Ruby Heinken; and two brothers, Wayne and DeOrr.
Memorials in her name have been established for the United Methodist Church of Hornick, Sunrise Retirement Community, and Hospice of Siouxland.

Nellie (Poleske) Ehlers (1903 - 1991)
Nellie, daughter of Ernest and Minnie Lueck Poleske, was born March 13, 1903 in Nishnabotna Township, Crawford County, Iowa. After attending rural school near her home, Nellie attended school for several years before her marriage to William Ehlers on June 1, 1927 in Red Oak, Iowa.For eight years after their marriage they farmed in Shelby County, Iowa. In 1935 they moved to their farm five miles south of Denison where they continued to live until the present time. Nellie was a homemaker, helping Bill on the farm and caring for their one son, Glenn. For many years she was a member of the Willing Neighbors Club. During her lifetime Nellie was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Priscilla Guild.
Due to failing health, Nellie entered the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison on May 8, 1991. After about a month there she entered the Denison Care Center. On July 4 she re-entered the Crawford County Memorial Hospital where she died on Saturday, July 20, 1991 at the age of 88 years, 4 months, and 7 days.
Nellie was preceeded in death by her parents; by a brother, Sears Poleske; and by a sister, Florence Poleske.
Nellie is survived by her husband, William, of Denison; by her son, Glenn, of Denison; by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A prayer service was held Tuesday, July 23 at 8 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla. Services were held Wednesday, July 24, 1991 at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla with Pastor Glenn Wiechmann officiating. Marian Joens served as organist with Marlene Jahn and Laurie Powers as soloists. Interment was in Nishnabotna Cemetery, Manilla. Pallbearers were Gilbert Sievertsen, Art Joens, Leonard Ahrenholtz, Harold Olson, Sr., Robert H. Meyer and Herschel Gabrielson. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Brus, Sr., James F. Leinen, John Brus and Ivan Genzen. Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla was in charge of arrangements.

Nola Meta Lena (Dahn) Creese (1902 - 1989)
Nola Meta Lena Creese, the daughter of Charles William and Dora Kohenkamp Dahn, was born at Charter Oak, Ia., on Jan. 22, 1902, and died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Ia., on Sept. 5, 1989, at the age of 87 years.Nola attended schools in Charter Oak and Scotland, S.D. After her education, she helped on the family farm.
On Feb. 17, 1921, Nola was united in marriage to LeRoy Creese of Charter Oak, in Scotland, S.D. To this union five children were born. They made their home on a farm southwest of Charter Oak and in 1932, she moved to Charter Oak, where she continued to live, until her health failed in 1975, and she entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison. She was an avid gardener and known for her beautiful flowers.
Nola was baptized on March 9, 1902, by Pastor Amstein, and confirmed on April 14, 1935, by Pastor W. Schroeder. She was a long time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak and was also a member of the Ladies Aid.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Henry Dahn; two daughters, Pearl Weifenbach and Norva Creese; two granddaughters; two grandsons; one great-grandson; one son-in-law, Edward Eggert; two half brothers, Walter Dahn and Elmer Juergens.
Survivors include her children: Evelyn and her husband, Walter Schmieder of Charter Oak, Elaine Eggert of Denison, and Herbert Creese and his wife, Evelyn of Perry; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren: one brother, John Dahn and his wife, Miriam of Portland, Ore.; four sisters: Augusta Koidahl of Glendale, Calif., Emilie and her husband, William Hoffer of Longmont, Colo., Clara Good of Fallbrook, Calif., and Ella White of Sun City, Calif.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Pastor L.C. Gebhardt officiated at the services with interment in the Charter Oak Cemetery at Charter Oak. Mrs. L.C. Gebhardt was organist for the church choir. Selections were "Nearer My God To Thee" and "Heaven is My Home." The congregational hymn was "What A Friend We Have in Jesus." Serving as pallbearers were Donald Eggert, Michael Eggert, Phillip Creese, Kevin Creese, William Weifenbach and Carl Pearson. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak.

Olga A. (Jensen) Berndt (1906 - 1993)
Olga A. Berndt was born on March 30, 1906, the daughter of Jens and Anna Hokamp Jensen. She died at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison on Friday, April 16, 1993 at the age of eighty-seven years.Olga was born on a farm near Laurel, Nebraska where she grew up and attended a rural school near her home and the Laurel Community High School.
She was united in marriage to Christ Jensen on November 23, 1925 in Yankton, South Dakota. The couple settled in Laurel, Nebraska and were blessed with the birth of three children.
On March 2, 1937, her husband, Christ died and Olga subsequently moved to Dunlap, Iowa. On June 24, 1942, Olga was united in marriage to Fred Berndt at the Lutheran Parsonage in Laurel, Nebraska. The couple settled on a farm near Dunlap and were blessed with the birth of two children. They farmed until 1970 and later retired to Denison.
Olga loved baking pies and cinnamon rolls. Her family was very meaningful to her, she cared for them with affection and loyalty and anticipated Sunday visits with them. She was dedicated to her Lord and Savior and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. In her free time, Olga enjoyed fishing and camping.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Christ Jensen; one brother; one sister, in infancy; and one grandchild.
Survivors include: her husband Fred of Denison; four sons; Marvin Jensen and his wife, Shirley of Denison, Robert Jensen of Omaha, Nebraska; Charles Berndt and his wife, Barbara of Nixa, Missouri; Ronald Berndt and his wife, Claudia of Thornton, Colorado; and one daughter, Marlene Berndt and her husband, Frank of Denison. Also, thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Lyle Jensen and his wife, Phyllis of Denver, Colorado; and one sister-in-law, Laura Jensen of Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 20, 1993 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Pastor Kurt Kaiser and pastor Philip E. Bloch officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist Henry Henningsen singing "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross" and congregational hymn "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Pallbearers were: Michael Berndt, Bradley Grimm, Harlan Lupton, Terry Berndt, Jack Kilker and John Grap. The Walter A. Huebner and Sons's Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Olinda Bertha (Kutschinski) Schultz (1904 - 1994)
Olinda Bertha Schultz was born May 17, 1904, the daughter of Carl and Louise Jahn Kutschinski. She died on May 19, 1994 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, at the age of ninety years and two days.Olinda was born on a farm in Charter Oak Township and received her education in a rural school near her home and St. John's Lutheran School in Charter Oak. She was baptized on June 19, 1904 and later confirmed on March 24, 1918 at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. As a young girl she helped her family on the farm.
On February 7, 1932, Olinda was united in marriage to Wiliam Schultz at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak by Rev. Amstein. The couple made their home in various farms in the Ricketts, Battle Creek, Schleswig and Charter Oak areas and were blessed with the birth of two children.
In September of 1979, they retired from farming and moved to Charter Oak. While living in Charter Oak, Olinda enjoyed occupying her time caring for her flowers, cooking and reading. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother who worked hard caring for her family. In February of 1993 the couple celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William in December of 1993 and two brothers, Earnest and Art.
Survivors include one son, Earl and his wife, Joleen of Charter Oak and one daughter, Marlene Groth and her husband, Milroy of Denison. Also one granddaughter, Kim Plough and her husband, Rory of Charter Oak; two grandsons, Kreg Schultz and his wife, Julie of LeMars, and Kyle Schultz and his wife, Teresa ot Charter Oak; and one great-grandson, Travis Plough and one great-granddaughter, Courtney Jo Plough, both of Charter Oak; two brothers, Elmer Kutschinski and Alvin Kutschinski and his wife, Dorothy; and two sisters, Erna Friedrichs and Irene Lee and her husband, Francis, all of Charter Oak.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 1994 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, with Rev. L.C. Gebhardt and Vicar Tim Kersten officiating the service and grave side rites held at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Charter Oak. Angela Gebhardt provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Asleep With Jesus", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Just as I Am, Without One Plea". Honorary Pallbearers were: Dan and Pam Martin and Family, Stan and Debbie Deiber and Family, Floyd and Connie Kesterson and Norman Kiepe. Pallbearers were: Craig Friedrichs, LeRoy Nemitz, Larry Kastner, Allen Nepper, Arlo Schultz and Bruce Lee. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them for lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.

Oscar H. Harder (1907 - 1992)
Oscar H. Harder, 85, of Battle Creek and formerly of Schleswig, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1992, at the Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove.Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig with the Rev. Donald R. Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Township Cemetery, near Schleswig. Visitation will be after 9:00 a.m. today at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mr. Harder was born Aug. 28, 1907, in Grant Township, Ida County, the son of Hans J. and Meta (Johannsen) Harder. He was baptized Sept. 15, 1907, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township and confirmed May 8,1921, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. He married Helen L. Johannsen, March 22, 1930, in Ida County. The couple farmed south of Battle Creek until 1949, when they bought a farm northeast of Schleswig. She died Nov. 13, 1971, and he moved to Battle Creek Nov. 25, 1979. He entered the care center in December 1991.
Mr. Harder was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek.
Survivors include three daughters, Lois Sahl of Battle Creek, Kay and her husband, Dale Reese of Schleswig, and Pat and her husband, Duane Sharp of Longmont, Colo.; nine grandchildren, David Sahl, Linda Merklein, Lisa Goodman, Crystal Bretthauer, Kimberly Reese, Todd Reese, Matthew, Megan and Melissa Sharp, five great-grandchildren, Brook, Megan, Alyse, and Keelie Reese and Mitchell Sharp.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert, Hans and Volquart Harder.
Pallbearers will be Dale Reese, Todd Reese, Matthew Sharp, and Duane Sharp.

Oscar G. Christensen (1905 - 1991)
Oscar G. Christensen was born Aug. 8, 1905, the son of James M. and Mary C. Christensen. He died July 26, 1991 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 85 years.Oscar was born on a farm in Jackson Township and lived with his parents on the farm. While still a child, he moved with his parents to a farm three miles west of Soldier, then to a farm one-half mile west of Ute, and then to a farm south of Ute where they remained until 1920 when they moved to a arm in Crawford County, one and one-half miles northwest of Dunlap. As a young man, Oscar was involved in farming as well as trucking.
On May 29, 1935, Oscar was united in marriage to Mary Irene Keating at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, and they were blessed with the birth of four children.
He purchased the Standard gas station in Denison which he operated until 1940 when he moved south of Vail to farm. They remained there until 1951 when he purchased a farm north of Vail and the family settled there.
Throughout his life, he had an exceptional love for children. He was a kind and loving husband and father who worked hard to provide for his family. In addition to farming, Oscar enjoyed occupying his spare time in his vegetable garden. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Vail.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harry, Arthur and Leonard.
Survivors include his wife, Irene of Vail; three daughters: Marie Baumhover and her husband, Jim of Carroll, Loretta Christensen of Carroll, and Patricia Mielk and her husband, Jim of Carroll; and one son, Bob Christensen of Vail; also 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lyle of Ocean Side, Calif.; three sisters: Violet, Mrs. Francis Keating of Albuquerque, N.M., Myrtle Rath of Denison and Evelyn, Mrs. Norman Hulsebus of Missouri Valley; three sisters-in-law: Gertrude Christensen of Denison, Gertrude Christensen of Stanton, Calif., and Dorothy Christensen of Colo, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, July 29 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Vail, with Fr. Lloyd White serving as Celebrant of the Mass and the grave side service at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Vail. Jason Huntley served as organist with Collette Huntley providing the vocal arrangements. A Parish Wake Service was held at 8 p.m. Sunday, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Mueggenberg Jr., Gene Gallagher, Wayne Anderson, Leslie Slechta, Joseph T. Lally, Edwin Maher, Dale Lenz and Gary Lenz. Pallbearers included David Baumhover, Allen Baumhover, Pat Baumhover, Dale Baumhover, Dan Mielk and Mike Mielk. Gift carriers were Lisa, Jodi and Lori Christensen with B.J. Christensen and Kevin Baumhover serving as altar boys. The Huebner Funeral Home of Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Paul August Johann Schultz (1905 - 1988)
Paul August Johann Schultz was born on May 5, 1905 in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Ia., the son of Carl Schultz and Anna Nemitz Schultz. He died on Jan. 7, 1988 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Ia., having attained the age of 82 years.Paul grew to manhood on a farm in Hanover Township and attended rural schools there.
On Dec. 14, 1927 he and Adelia Miller of Hanover Township were united in marriage at the St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Carl Runge officiating. To this union five children were born.
Paul and Adelia farmed until moving to Denison in 1967. He worked at various positions until July of 1986. At that time he entered the Eventide Lutheran Home. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by two brothers, Ben and Edgar and one sister Minnie Huebner.
Survivors include his wife Adelia of Denison; and his children: Phyllis and her husband, Burno Ochsner of Florissant, Colo., Ruth and her husband, Wesley Sherman of Lincoln, Neb., Evelyn and her husband, Kermit Greenstreet of Arion, Allen Schultz and his wife, Mary Ann of Ida Grove, and Leslie Schultz and his wife, Patricia of Schleswig. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, William Schultz of Charter Oak; and three sisters: Mrs. Viola Dorale of Charter Oak, Mrs. Irwin (Erna) Kastner of Kiron and Mrs. Dennis (Helen) McKee of Denison.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 11, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with Rev. Kurt Kaiser officiating. Mrs. Darold Kahl served as organist for Henry Henningsen as soloist and congregational singing. Selections were "Rock of Ages," "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me" and "Let Us Ever Walk With Jesus." Pallbearers were Earl Schultz, Norman Schultz, Burdell Dorale, Richard Petersen, Loren Kastner and Arlo Schultz. Interment was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens at Denison. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Paul R. Baer (1903 - 1994)
Paul R. "Curly" Baer was born on a farm at Buck Grove, August 11, 1903, the son of Richard and Alice Riddle Baer. He was raised there and attended the local rural schools. Following his schooling he was employed as a farmhand for area farmers.In 1925, Paul was united in marriage with Ethel Malone at Sioux City. Their union was blessed with two sons, Richard and Floyd James. They resided in Denison where Paul was employed at Gold Bond Products. Ethel died in February of 1933.
On June 15, 1935 Paul was united in marriage with Anna Christina Maria Christiansen at Carroll. There union was blessed with one son, Paul Roger. They resided in Denison where Paul continued employment with Bond's until March of 1944 when they moved to a farm at Schleswig. In conjunction with farming, for many years, Paul drove a school bus for the Schleswig School.
Paul and Anna moved into Schleswig in 1959 where they started and operated Schleswig Sanitation for many years and was employed in maintenance for the City of Schleswig.
Anna died January 12, 1983 and Paul continued to reside and work in Schleswig until moving to the Denison Care Center in Denison in May of 1988.
Paul enjoyed life and telling others of his experiences with the unique ability to make people smile. Those who knew and loved Paul will remember him with fun memories as they retell the stories of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the beauty and bounty that nature affords us.
Paul died Friday morning, October 7, 1994 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 91 years, 1 month and 26 days. He was a member of the United Church Of Christ in Schleswig and the Izaak Walton League.
Including his parents and both of his wives, Paul was preceded in death by six sisters, Lillian Hugg, Laura Walrod, Florence Savery, Jetta Frahm, Pearl Savery and Verne James.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include three sons, Richard Baer and wife, Claudine of Torkio, Missouri, Floyd James Baer of Arion, and Paul Roger Baer and wife, Marlene of Schleswig, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one step great-granddaughter, two sisters, Evelyn Griffith and Elsie Fuller both of the Denison Care Center, two brothers, Robert Baer and wife, Anne, of Fort Meyers, Florida, and Ted Baer and wife Erna of Paradise, California, special friends, Robert and Artis Christiansen, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 10, 1994 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, with the Rev. James M. Schatz officiating. Barb Buffum and Pam Gronau were vocalists singing "Old Rugged Cross" with Marlene Hight serving as organist. Casket bearers included Guenter Detlefsen, Loren Jepsen, Al Sedore, Larry Jensen, LeRoy Bumann and Harlan Buffum. Interment was in the Morgan Township cemetery at Schleswig. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Paul Thomas Schroeder (1901 - 1982)
Paul Thomas Schroeder was born on Aug. 25, 1901 in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Detlef and Anna Thomsen Schroeder. He died July 20, 1982 at St. Joseph Hospital, Omaha, Neb. at the age of 80.Paul was reared on a family farm in Crawford County. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home. After the completion of his education he farmed with his family.
On April 10, 1929, Paul was united in marriage to Louise Fineran at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Together they made their first home on a farm in Crawford .County. In 1935 they moved to Minnesota where they farmed for 20 years. Later, Paul was employed with Weyerhauser for 17 years before his retirement. In March of 1981, Paul and Louise moved to Denison.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by three brothers. Survivors include, his wife Louise of Denison, two sons, Robert and his wife Gloria of Sulpher Springs, Ark., and Donald and his wife Lorraine of Mishawaka, Ind. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five sisters, Hilda (Mrs. Carl) Miller of Ida Grove, Mrs. Adelia Luta of Ida Grove, Mrs. Edna Krayenhagen of Danbury, Mrs. Hattie Jensen of Mapleton and Helen (Mrs. Chester) Maclem of Pueblo, Colo.
Funeral services were held July 23, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Burial was in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. Father Lloyd W. White and Father Allan Riecks officiated at the mass and gravesides rites.

Peter J. Meggers (1902 - 1976)
Peter J. Meggers, son of John J. and Ida Zage Meggers, was born June 28, 1902 on a farm in Otter Creek Township near Schleswig, Iowa. He was baptized in infancy by Pastor Runge and confirmed in 1915 by Pastor William Frese.He died suddenly at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison Saturday, February 14, 1976, at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 17 days.
Mr. Meggers attended rural schools and grew to manhood on a farm near Schleswig, Iowa.
On January 29, 1941, he was united in marriage to Elonore Hargens. They made their home on a farm in Willow Township, later moving on a farm in Otter Creek Township and then to Hanover Township where they lived until 1969 at which time they retired to Charter Oak.
Mr. Meggers was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Hilda, and twin sisters who died In infancy.
Survivors include his wife Elonore, three sisters Rose Meggers of Charter Oak, Mrs. Adela DeMey of Arion, Minnie, Mrs. Louie Pirwitz of Charter Oak, one brother John of Charter Oak, several other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 17, 1976 at 2 p. m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa with Pastor Robert Maschke officiating. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist and Henry Henningsen sang "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But a Stranger Here".

Peter Moritz Jensen (1901 - 1973)
Peter Moritz Jensen, 76, a resident of 121 North Ninth Street, Denison died Saturday morning, August 5, 1973 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison. He had been in poor health for the past year.He was born September 8, 1901, in Crawford County, he was the son of Moritz and Louise Schneller Jensen. Peter spent most of his life in Crawford County except for a few years in California and Oregon. While in Oregon he was employed as a buttermaker. Peter was also a fireman for ten years. He also was employed as a carpenter for Hugo Brummer.
He was married to Genevieve Quade and she preceded him in death in March of 1962. On June 3, 1963, Peter was united in marriage to Amanda Boger at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and she survives.
Peter was confirmed December 19, 1963 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, one brother William, and one step grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Amanda, one stepson, Floyd Boger of Denison; eight step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church on August 7, 1978 at 2 p.m. Words of Comfort were given by Rev. Jack Heck. Music was provided by soloist, Henry Henningsen, singing "How Great Thou Art." With Mrs. Jeanette Venzke, as organist. Peter T. Jepsen (1900 - 1977)
Peter T. Jepsen was born on Aug. 11, 1900 at Goodrich Township, Crawford County, the son of Peter and Margretha Jepsen. He died on Dec. 2, 1977 of a heart attack at his farm home at the age of 77.Peter was raised on a family farm and received his formal education in the rural school in Goodrich Township.
In 1927 he was married to Mary E. Fuller of Manilla who preceded him in death in 1940. From this union three children were born; Marilyn, Peter, and Elizabeth. In 1958 he married Pearl McCollough of Vail.
He was engaged in numerous businesses, finally turning to his lifetime profession of well drilling and ditch digging. Peter was known throughout the five county area for his water witching an providing water sources for the farming community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Mary, brother Bill and his sister Emma Marquardt who died Nov. 4 of this year.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl, daughters Marilyn, Mrs. Dale Christensen of Burnsville, Mn., Elizabeth, Mrs. Burton Hustad of Battle Lake, Minn., son Peter of Fairmont, Minn., and Mrs. Dennis Binning of Chichester, N.H., half sisters Mrs. Elsie Missling of Appleton, Wi., and Mrs. Edna Hast of Phoenix, Ariz. Also 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church of Denison with Rev. James Cobb officiating. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery. Henry Henningsen was soloist and Dorothy Norman, organist. Pallbearers included Ronnie Nelson, Dan Kennedy and four grandsons Steve and Doug.

Peter Walter Asmus Jepsen (1905 - 1980)
Peter Walter Asmus Jepsen was born on Oct. 19, 1905 in East Boyer Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Henry and Mary Hollander Jepsen. He died Aug. 23, 1980 at Eventide Lutheran Home, Denison, at the age of 74.Walter was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. He was raised on a family farm and received his formal education in the rural schools near his home.
After the completion of his education he farmed the family home place all of his working career. Later he made his home in Denison and for the past year suffered from ill health.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include, two sisters, Hilda, Mrs. Meinhardt Jaacks and Doretta Jepsen, both of Denison, four nephews, three neices and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Aug. 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. John Lutze officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Herman Schneider, Paul Schneller, Kenneth Neumann, Martin Schneider, Albert Schneller and William Neumann. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Ralph R. Hester (1904 - 1985)
Ralph R. Hester was born on December 14, 1904, in Washington Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Albert and Emma Frey Hester. He died on Monday evening, August 19, 1985, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, at the age of 80.Ralph spent his formative years with his family on a farm near Buck Grove. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home.
Ralph was united in marriage to Helen Hinrichsen on July 20, 1932 at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison. Together they made their first home on a farm in East Boyer Township. They later moved to a farm in the Buck Grove area where they lived for several years. After moving to the Manilla community, Ralph was employed for fourteen years by the Milwaukee Railroad. In 1960 they moved into the Denison community where Ralph was employed by Iowa Beef Packers until his retirement in 1969.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by one daughter in infancy.
Survivors include his wife Helen of Denison, one son Albert and wife Diane of Denison, and one daughter Marilyn, Mrs. Edwin Jepsen of Denison. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one brother Edward of Buck Grove, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 23, 1985, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Denison. Interment was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Rev. Dr. Scott Woodworth officiated at the services and graveside rites. Nancy Miles served as organist for the services with Mrs. Charlotte Dueland serving as soloist. Hymns for the services included "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." Serving as pallbearers were Jerry Schultz, Frank Prowant, Tim Blunk, Lloyd Carstens, Robert Scherff, and Howard Natzel. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Ralph Emil Otto Teut (1909 - 2000)
Ralph Emil Otto Teut was born March 8, 1909, in Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Herman and Anna (Wiedemann) Teut. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith September 19, 1909 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Charter Oak, Iowa where he was also confirmed on March 6, 1923. He received his education at Crawford County Number 6 Immanuel Lutheran County for nine years operating a maintainer and snowplow.On December 20, 1933, Ralph was united in marriage to Ruth Ella Helen Engelke at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple engaged in farming until 1972 when the couple retired and moved into town. After retiring, Ralph did carpenter and repair work.
He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute where he served as an Elder, trustee and an active member of AAL and LLL as well as a member of the Friendship Club. He also was a trustee of St. Clair Township, a town councilman, and was a Bank Director at the Ute State Bank since 1969.
Those survivors left to cherish Ralph's memory include Ruth, his wife of 66 years; two sons and their wives, Eldon and Creta Teut of Ute, Iowa and Oran and Becky Teut of Monroe, Iowa; one daughter and her husband, Sharon and Jack Pope of Ute, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Erna Nihsen and her husband, Gilbert of Ricketts, Iowa and Ruby Waderich of Mapleton, Iowa and one brother, Everett Teut and his wife, Betty of Omaha, Nebraska along with many other relatives, neighbors and good friends.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, Herb, Elmer, Melvin, Arlo, Kermit, Waldo, Orville and Raymond and two sisters, Edna and Evelyn.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, July 24, 2000 at the S. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. Pastor Edgar Bode officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. Clari Cemetery in Ute, Iowa. Creta Teut served as organist accompanied by the St. Paul's Choir singing, "How Great Thou Art" and congregation hymn, "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Walt Nun, Don Petersen, Johannes Petersen, Harry Suckstorf, Swede Aronson, Benny Schmeider and Fred Soukup. Those serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Todd Teut, Mark Teut, Paul Teut, Nathan Teut, Brian Carter and Randy Carter. The Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute was in charge of arrangements.

Reinhard Herman Diedrich Mundt (1907 - 1995)
Reinhard Herman Diedrich Mundt was born on a farm in Nishnabotna Township near Denison, Iowa November 12, 1907, the son of William Diedrich and Anna Lochmiller Mundt.He was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism January 11, 1908 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and confirmed in his Christian Faith there March 25, 1923. He was raised on the farm where he received his early education in the rural schools and finished his education attending night classes in Denison.
On March 24, 1930, Reiney was united in marriage with Anna Rose "Dolly" Mundt at Council Bluffs, Iowa. They made their home on the farm south of Denison where their union was blessed with two sons, James Barry and Michael Reinhard. In 1945 they moved to Denison and Reiney continued to farm. In addition to his farming career Reiney was active in projects to improve Denison.
He was instrumental in starting Crawford County Meat Packer, now known as Farmland, helped start IBP and was their first President of the Board continuing to serve on the board until they were purchased by Occidental Petroleum. He served on the Norwest Bank Board of Directors from 1952 until 1979. In later years the Mundt's enjoyed spending the winters at their Scottsdale, Arizona home.
Dolly died May 1984 and Reiney continued to reside in Denison.
On March 14, 1985, Reiney was united in marriage with Anna Jane Hunter Hutcheson at Scottsdale, Arizona. They made their home in Denison spending the winters in Scottsdale. Reiney enjoyed meeting people and maintaining old and new friendships, especially enjoying his card club.
Although R. H. held many titles in life, the one he cherished most was farmer. He passed by many business opportunities which would have required leaving his beloved land. He was active in farming almost until the end of his life.
Reiney died Wednesday morning, November 8, 1995 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 87 years, 11 months and 26 days. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Including his parents and his first wife, Dolly, Reiney was preceded in death by one brother, Barney Mundt.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife, Jane Mundt of Denison, two sons, James Barry Mundt and wife, Jacqueline of Denison, Michael Reinhard Mundt and wife, Lori of Denison, two stepsons, Paul Hutcheson and wife, Julie of Des Moines, Iowa, and Tom Hutcheson of LaQuinta, California, eight grandchildren, Kelly Mundt and husband, Craig Bjorklund of Chicago, Illinois, Lisa Mundt of Manhattan Beach, California, W. Dan Mundt and wife Ann of Ames, Iowa, Angelique Mundt of Chicago, Illinois, Laura Mundt and husband, Jeff Patterson of Coralville, Iowa, Adrian Mundt of Omaha, Nebraska, Danae and husband Thomas Schuster of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Madeleine Mundt of Seattle, Washington, six step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sister, Lula Lenz of Denison, one niece, Lois and husband Patrick Houston of Denison, one nephew, Bob Mundt and wife Sally of Broomfield, Colorado, and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 11, 1995 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and the Rev. Philip E. Bloch officiating. Music for the service was provided by Brad Roos singing "The Lord's Prayer" and "Amazing Grace" and the congregation singing "Beautiful Savior". Martha Bloch was organist. Honorary bearers were Ralph Borcherding, Robert Glau, James F. Leinen, Patrick L. Houston, Earl Keim, Fred Lanz, Ralph Marten, William Q. Norelius, E.A. Raun and W.F. Morrison, Reiney's grandchildren, Kelly Mundt, Lisa Mundt, W. Dan Mundt, Angelique Mundt, Laura Mundt Patterson, Adrian Mundt, Danae Mundt Schuster and Madeleine Mundt served as casket bearers. Interment was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. A prayer service was held at 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 10, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home with Dr. Edward R. Peterson officiating. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Swenehart (1908 - 1988)
Robert "Astor" Swenehart, 79, of Schleswig died Monday, March 28, 1988, at Colonial Manor in Correctionville.Mr. Swenehart was born November 4, 1908, the son of George and Leona (Kinkade) Swenehart, in Miller County, Missouri, and attended area schools. In 1928, he moved to Schleswig.
On March 29, 1930, he married Mabel Hoist in Schleswig. The couple farmed in the Schleswig area and retired to town in 1974. He entered Colonial Manor in August of 1987.
Astor was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served on the board of trustees and the church building committee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dawn; and two sisters, Bernice Groce and Fern Reed; and one son-in-law, Vernis Abbe.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel of Colonial Manor; two daughters, Ruby M. Miller of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Mrs. Charles (Lavone) Peterson of Correctionville; a sister, Mrs. Denrel Plemmens of St. Louis, Missouri; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, 1988, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig with Pastor Richard Nelson and Pastor Kenneth Hessel officiating. Burial was in Morgan Township Cemetery at Schleswig. Marlene Hight served as organist. Donna Suhr, soloist, sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Amazing Grace" and the congregation sang "I'm But a Stranger Here". Honorary pallbearers were Theo. A. Aldag, Edmund Hamann, Oscar Harder, Eldo Hollander and Harvey Wellendorf. Pallbearers were Lawrence Bartels, Keith Friedrichsen, David Peterson, James Peterson, Kendall Schoen and John Taylor.

Robert A. Whiteing (1908 - 1988)
Robert A. Whiteing was born on a farm near Vail, Iowa, December 4, 1908, the son of Thomas and Hannah Loechner Whiteing. As a young boy, his family moved to a farm near Manilla where they resided until 1928, when they returned to the home place. He received his education in the rural schools near their home, Manilla, and attended the Vail High School. Following his education and prior to his marriage, he farmed with his father.On June 1, 1935, Robert was united in marriage with Ruth Rollins at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison. This union was blessed with three children, Barbara, Donna and James. The Whiteings made their homes on farms in Crawford County until 1954, when they moved to Denison. After moving to Denison, Robert was employed at White Star Dairy, Crawford County Memorial Hospital and Midwestern College. From 1974 until 1985, Robert and Ruth operated The Whiteing Greenhouses at their home on South 15th Street.
Robert had been in failing health for the past several years and in February of this year he moved to the Denison Care Center in Denison.
It was there his death occurred Saturday afternoon, April 16, 1988. At the time of his passing, he had attained the age of 79 years, 4 months and 12 days.
Through the years some of Robert's greatest joys were his family, farming, camping and fishing. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison where in past years he had served as a deacon and usher.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, who died in infancy.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Whiteing of Denison; three children, Barbara and her husband Russell Borkowski of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Donna Borgeson of Vail and James Whiteing and his wife Jolene of Schleswig; eight grandchilren, Dawn, Sandra, Connie, David, Karen, Renae, Cynthia and Katie; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, F. Earl Whiteing and his wife Opal of Vail; and his step mother-in-law, Leona Rollins of Denison. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 19, 1988, at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison with the Rev. Lynn R. Davis officiating. Music for the service was provided by Ellen Davis, who was organist and accompanied herself as she sang "How Great Thou Art". Casketbearers were Roy Whited, Jerry Boger, Daymon Abbott, William Q. Norelius, Ray Pollock and Earl Harvey. Interment was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison.

Roma Anna Katharine (Kastner) Ernst (1904 - 1988)
Roma Anna Katharine Ernst, the daughter of Fred and Friederike Petersen Kastner, was born on April 4, 1904 on a farm near Kiron, Ia. She died Oct. 19, 1988 at the Denison Care Center, having attained the age of 84 years.Roma grew up on the family farm and attended a rural school, graduating from the Schleswig High School in the class of 1923. After graduation, she helped on the family farm. Roma was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church on Aug. 16, 1910 by Rev. William Frese, and confirmed at the Friedens Church in Schleswig on March 28, 1920 by Rev. W. R. Wetzeler.
On June 28, 1928, Roma and Walter Ernst of Schleswig, were united in marriage at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township, Ida County. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church until it was destroyed by a tornado. At this time, they transferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, of which she was a member at the time of her death. Roma taught Sunday School for several years at Trinity and was also a member of the Trinity Ladies Aid.
They made their home on a farm near Schleswig, until moving to Schleswig in 1978. When her health failed, she entered the Denison Care Center in Denison seven and one-half years ago. In her healthful years, she was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling. She and Walter celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1978, with an open house for family and friends.
Preceding Roma in death were her parents. Survivors include her husband Walter of Schleswig; one brother Irwin Kastner and his wife Erna of Kiron, also nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Pastor Richard Nelson officiated with interment in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Grant Township, Ida County. Mrs. Sharon Thompson was organist for congregational singing. Selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But A Stranger Here, Heaven Is My Home."

Roma Edna (Schultz) Friedrichsen (1908 - 1993)
Roma Edna Friedrichsen was born on June 16, 1908, the daughter of Fritz and Amelia Lutz Schultz. She died on Friday, January 1, 1993 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of eighty-four years.Roma grew up on a farm near Kiron and received her education in a rural school near her home. After completing her education, she worked with her family on the farm until she was united in marriage to Henry Friedrichsen on February 4, 1927.
The couple settled on a farm in the Schleswig and Battle Creek region where they were blessed with the birth of five children. The couple farmed until 1966 when they retired and relocated to Schleswig. From 1967 to 1977, the couple were employed by the City of Schleswig as park caretakers, and for many years, Roma had the additional enjoyment of caring for many local children as a baby sitter.
In her free time, Roma enjoyed baking, sewing and was particularly fond of socializing with her friends in the Fellowship Club, where she enjoyed playing "five hundred". Additionally, she was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and the Battle Creek and Schleswig Senior Citizens. She was a loving wife and a caring and considerate mother who reared her children with a Christian devotion and affection that will be cherished for generations by those who were touched with her love.
Roma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry in June of 1986, one daughter, Helen on January 13, 1989, six brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter.
Survivors include: two sons, Freddie and his wife, Elaine of Denison; Donald and his wife, Marjorie of Schaller, Iowa; two daughters JoAnn Couch and her husband, Dennis of Omaha, Nebraska; Gaylene Steckelberg and her husband, Dennis of Owatonna, Minnesota and one son-in-law, Floyd Wilcke of Battle Creek. Other survivors include nineteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, and two sisters-in-law, Mrs Lilly Schultz of Eventide in Denison and Gertrude Schultz of Denison, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 4, 1993 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig with Pastor Donald Wagner officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were: Andrew Friedrichsen, Douglas Friedrichsen, Scott Friedrichsen, David Friedrichsen, Thomas Wilcke, Karl Steckelberg, Robert Wilcke, William Wilcke, Henry Couch, Daniel Couch and' Patrick Steckelberg. The Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Schleswig were in charge of arrangements.

Rosa Mathilda Lorensen (1905 - 1982)
Rosa Mathilda Lorensen was born on Jan. 8, 1905 near Kenwood in Crawford County, the daughter of Jess and Anna Thoem Lorensen. She died April 13, 1982 at St. Lukes Medical Center, Sioux City, at the age of 77.Rosa was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Buck Grove. She spent her early years on a family farm near Buck Grove. Rosa received her formal education in the rural schools near her home.
For many years, Rosa cared for her parents. Later, with her brother, Louie, she maintained the family home. In 1970, she retired and moved to Denison, where she became a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents, Rosa was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Survivors include, four brothers, John of Denison, Herman, of Jefferson, Frank and Emil both of Charter Oak and two sisters, Mrs. Ann Else of Omaha, Neb. and Mrs. Adelia Rosburg of Charter Oak. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 16, at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Heck officiated at the services. Pallbearers included, Charles Clark, Herman Rosburg, Michael Rosburg, James Pester, Kevin Pester and Dwayne Andresen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Rose Adela Christiansen (1903 - 1994)
Rose Adela Christiansen was born January 17, 1903, the daughter of Hans and Catharine Paulsen Christiansen. She died Friday, December 9, 1994, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison at the age of ninety-one years.Rose was born on a farm near Schleswig and received her education in a rural school near her home. She was baptized in Christ and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. William Frese.
On March 26, 1924, Rose was united in marriage to Paul Christiansen at the Zion Parsonage. The couple settled in Crawford County and were blessed with the birth of two daughters.
After her parents and her brother Herman moved to Denison, Rose and her children joined them in their home and cared for them. She was later joined by her sister, Anna.
Rose was a loving, caring and devoted daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She loved sewing, reading, baking and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and seven brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Keesling and her husband, Earl of Denison and Laura Christiansen of the Dunlap Care Center, seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and six step-great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, December 12, 1994 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa with Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Philip E. Bloch officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns 'Rock of Ages', 'Asleep in Jesus' and 'Oh, Come, Oh, Come, Emmanuel'. Pallbearers were: Jerald Segebart, Stephen Keesling, Loren Keesling, Gary Keesling, Kevin Keesling, Mark Berner and Steven Attanasio. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them for lunch at the Zion Lutheran Church, served by the Zion Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Rose Clara (Schug) Kastner (1903 - 2005)
Rose Clara Kastner was born April 11, 1903, the daughter of Otto and Alma Zable Schug. She died Friday, November 18, 2005 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison having attained the age of 102.Rose grew up on a farm in Grant Township near Ida Grove, Iowa. She received her education in a rural school near her home. After completing her education, she remained at home and helped her family in addition to caring for her younger sister, Velda. She was baptized in Christ as an infant, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church near her home.
She was united in marriage to Gilbert Kastner on January 28, 1925 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township. The couple settled on the farm they purchased in Hanover Township where they farmed for twenty-eight years and were blessed with the birth of two children. They remained on the farm until they retired and moved to Schleswig in 1952.
She was a loving wife and mother who cared for her family with devotion, enjoying socializing with them throughout her life. In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing many items, but was especially fond of sewing Barbie Doll dresses. Rose enjoyed cooking and baking, and had a vegetable garden. She enjoyed caring for the flowers in her flower garden that included many rose bushes, which she trimmed and received great pleasure in sharing with others. She was always up for a game of cards, especially euchre and bridge and was a member of several card clubs in addition to Dorcas and Ladies Guild at the church. She has been a long and devoted member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gilbert, four brothers, Walter, Art, Herman and Erwin Schug, one sister, Minnie Brodersen and one grandson-in-law, Tom Hibbing. Survivors include two sons, Verdell Kastner and his wife, Marlyn of Denison; Rawlo Kastner and his wife, Rubie of Schleswig; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, three step-great-grandchildren, four step-great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Velda Pierson of White Bear, Minnesota.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Chris Burtnett officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Organist Wendy Bumann provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Rubie Kastner, daughter-in-law of Rose, singing "How Great Thou Art" and for congregational hymns, "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and "In the Garden Honorary pallbearers were: Kristine Kastner, Vanessa Zimmer, Rhiannon Long, Valerie Hibbina, Kayla Kastner, Regina Klahn, Ben Hibbina, Jeff Hibbing and Tiffany Klahn. Pallbearers were: Duane Zimmer, Tanner Kastner, Ross Kastner, Mark Kastner, Nick Zimmer, Aric Zimmer and Bruce Klahn. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Women's Guild and Staley's Catering Service. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Rose Magdaline Meggers (1900 - 1987)
Rose Magdaline Meggers was born on March 21, 1900, in Otter Creek Township near Schleswig, Iowa, the daughter of John J. Meggers and Ida Zage Meggers. She died on March 28, 1987, at the Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of, 87 years and 7 days.Rose grew up on a farm in Hanover Township and attended rural schools and the Zion Lutheran School in Denison. She attended nursing school in Omaha, Nebraska. She worked at the Battle Creek hospital, serving as Superintendent of Nursing for several years. She was later employed at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison and did private duty nursing. She made her home with her brother, John Meggers in Charter Oak, until entering the Dunlap Care Center in 1977.
In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by one brother, Pete and three sisters: Hilda as a young girl, Minnie Pirwitz and Adela DeMey.
Survivors are her brother, John F. and his wife, Elonore Meggers of Charter Oak, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services Were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 1987, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak with burial in the Morgan Township Cemetery near Schlelwig. Rev. L.G. Gebhardt officiated at the services. Mrs. Paul Clausen was organist while the Church Choir sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Abide With Me". The congregation sang "Now The Light Has Passed Away". Serving as pallbearers were Darlo Pirwitz, Donald DeMey, Delmar DeMey, John DeMey, Henry DeMey Jr. and Herman Rosburg.

Rose M. (Hinrichsen) Schultz (1904 - 2003)
Rose M. Schultz was born July 23, 1904, the daughter of Herman and Minnie Hagge Hinrichsen. She died at the Eventide Nursing Home in Denison, Iowa, Friday, January 31, 2003 at the age of ninety-eight.Rose was born in Monona County, moving with her family to Akron, Iowa and then back to a farm near Charter Oak. She was baptized in Christ on December 14, 1904 at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak by Rev. A. Amstein and later confirmed there on June 1, 1919. Rose received her education at a rural school near her home and St. Johns Lutheran School. After completing her education, she worked for several neighbors and relatives and also at a Woolworth's Store in Chicago.
On February 15, 1928, Rose was united in marriage to August Schultz at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak by Rev. A. Amstein. The couple farmed in the Charter Oak area and moved to town in 1962. August died June 10, 1980 and she continued to live in Charter Oak, until January 28, 2002, when she moved to Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison.
Rose was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Aid for 75 years. She enjoyed cooking and worked in Eventide's Dietary Dept. and later as a hot lunch cook for St. John Lutheran School. She was a member of the Friendly Chatter Sewing Club. The love and affection Rose had for her Lord was evidenced in her daily life. Her love, understanding and concern for people, and always giving of herself to help others was her. mission. Her leisure time was occupied by crocheting, reading, writing, being an avid sports fan and enjoying her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, August, two infant sons, Robert and Richard, son-in-law, Leonard Voss, two sisters, Evelyn Bielow and Leona Baak; five brothers, Elmer, Herbert, Walter, Leslie and Carl.
Survivors include one son, James Schultz and his wife, Jean of Charter Oak; two daughters, Lois Voss of Walker, Iowa; and Karen Weiss and her husband, Byron of Dunlap; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Vernon Bielow of Charter Oak; one sister-in-law, Elsie Larson of Mapleton; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 2, 2003 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Rev. L.C. Gebhardt officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Charter Oak. Marjorie Neddermeyer provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Now Thank We All Our God", "How Great Thou Art" and "Lift High the Cross". Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Eileen Gruenwald, Janet Collingwood, Regina MacLame, Lynette Schultz, Jill Nepper and Jennifer Bruner. Pallbearers were Richard Voss, Russell Voss, Terry Voss, Mark Voss, Arlyn Voss, Brian Voss, Timothy Weiss, Alan Weiss, Aaron Bruner, Justin Nepper and Brian MacLaine. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. Rose Tena (Messenbrink) Berner (1908 - 1998)
Rose Tena Berner was born July 28, 1908, the daughter of Henry and Annie Lorenzen Messenbrink. She died at her home in Denison, Iowa on Thursday, February 12, 1998 at the age of eighty-nine.Rose was born in Hanover Township, Denison, Iowa. She lived with her family in Hanover Township and was baptized in Christ on September 1, 1910 by Rev. Frese. As a young girl, Rose was adopted by Mr. & Mrs. William Berner. Rose received her education in rural schools in the Rockwell City area. She was confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell City, Iowa on May 20, 1923 by Rev. Schaffer.
On September 8, 1923, Rose was united in marriage to Roy Berner at Windom, Minnesota. The couple made their home on the family farm and were blessed with the birth of four sons and two daughters. In 1934, they purchased a farm near Deloit, Iowa, where they made their home until moving to Denison in 1972.
Rose was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. She loved music and you could find Rose playing in a small band at house parties and lounges. Her greatest pride was her family, especially her grandchildren and the care Rose gave to her family, was returned by her family caring for her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy, one son, one grandson, two brothers and six sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Edmond Berner of Logan; Marlyn Berner of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Larry Berner and his wife, Sheryl of Dow City; two daughters, Eunice Stromberg of Grand Island, Nebraska; Joleen Downs of Denison; thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, February 16, 1998 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Daniel Gifford. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Just as I Am, Without One Plea", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Those serving as pallbearers were: Richard Holihan, Dwayne Berner, Ricky Berner, Cory Berner, Brad Hansen and Randy Klink. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at Cronk's Restaurant. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Ray C. Larson (1909 - 1993)
Ray C. Larson was born on a farm north of Deloit, Iowa, August 21, 1909, the son of Frank and Anna Caroline Meyer Larson. He was raised on the farm receiving his education in the rural schools before being graduated from the Deloit High School with the Class of 1927.On March 2, 1941 Ray was united in marriage with Margaret Linden at Springfield, Missouri. Their union was blessed with three children, James, Avis and Ross. During World War II Ray served his country for five years in the United States Army and upon his discharge he returned to the home place where he farmed all of his life.
Due to falling health he entered the Denison Care Center In October of this year. Ray died Friday morning, November 19, 1993, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 84 years, 2 months and 28 days. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron and the American Legion Post 383, Kiron, Iowa.
Including his parents Ray was preceded in death by one brother, Rudolph Larson.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife, Margaret Larson of rural Deloit, three children and their spouses, James and Peggy Larson of Rabat, Morocco, Avis and Richard Goldy of Houston, Texas and Ross and Kathleen Larson of Des Moines, Iowa, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Edith Hawley of Denison and Irma Knief of Kiron. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 24, 1993, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron, Iowa, with the Rev. Victor N. Johnson officiating. Gwen Ecklund was soloist for the service singing "One Day At A Time" and "How Great Thou Art". The congregational hymn was "Children Of The Heavenly Father" with Margaret Ann Buller serving as organist. Honorary bearers included LeRoy Winey, Vernet Soenksen, Clarence Bartlett, Ronnie Jenkins, Carroll Skarin and Dean Gray. Casket bearers were Wayne Baker, Dale Jenkins, Frank Hawley, Charles Hawley, David Gray and Gene Bergman. Military Honors were provided by the American Legion Post 383, Kiron, Iowa. Interment was in the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery at Kiron, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
