August L. Petersen (1893 - 1990)
August L. Petersen, was born the son of Jurgen and Adeline Lorenzen Petersen, November 8, 1893 in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He died Sunday, April 1, 1990 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 96 years.August lived on the farm where he was born for 80 years. He was Baptized April 23, 1894 and Confirmed April 4, 1909. He received his education in the rural schools.
August and Mahala Johannsen were united in marriage February 2, 1916 at the farm home with Rev. Wm. Frese officiating. To this union nine children were born. August and Mahala farmed until 1973 when they moved to Denison. In the fall of 1985 they moved to Eventide Lutheran Home where they made their home. August was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
In addition to his parents, August was preceded in death by his wife, Mahala, March 23, 1987; one daughter Marie Marten; seven brothers, three sisters and four grandchildren.
His survivors include his children: Margaret and her husband Marvine Petersen of Denison; John Petersen and his wife Loueen of Denison; Anna and her husband Wilbur Harm of Denison; Edmund Petersen and his wife Marion of Denison; Leonard Petersen and his wife Arlis of Ute; Berniece and her husband Carl Segebart of Vail; Earl Petersen and his wife Barbara of Lake Park, Minnesota; Betty and her husband Don Bilsten of Denison; one son-in-law, Ralph Marten of Denison. Also surviving are: forty four grandchildren, seventy three great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and two sisters-in-law; Caroline Petersen of Glidden, Iowa and Bertha Stone of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 1990. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated at the services with interment in Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. Mrs. Diane Furne was organist. The Congregational Hymns were "I'm But a Stranger Here", "Be still My Soul" and "Let Us Ever Walk with Jesus". Serving as pallberers were Mike Petersen, Loren Petersen, Layne Petersen, Dennis Marten, Roger Harm, Larry Petersen, James Segebart, Tim Petersen and Tom Bilsten. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A Huebner and Sons' Funeral Service of Denison, Iowa.

Caroline D. (Hansen) Paulsen (1904 - 2004)
Caroline D. Paulsen was born May 20, 1904, the daughter of Henry and Olga Burke Hansen. She died Thursday, April 29, 2004 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa at the age of ninety-nine. Caroline was born in Schleswig, Iowa and received her education at Morgan Township No. 4 School.On August 22, 1922, Caroline was united in marriage to Albert Paulsen at Friedens Evangelical Church in Schleswig, Iowa. The couple settled on the Paulsen family farm and were blessed with the birth of four children. Caroline and Albert farmed for twenty-eight years before retiring in 1950, moving to their new home in town.
In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, baking, flower and vegetable gardening and growing raspberries and strawberries. She also enjoyed playing cards, quilting with her friends at church, and reading her devotions book. She was a member of United Church of Christ in Schleswig, and their Dorcas Society and Women's Guild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; twin daughters, Vera and Veda at birth; four sisters, Ruby in infancy; Lucille; Theresa; and Esther; and her daughter-in-law, Carol Paulsen.
She is survived by her son Eldo of Schleswig; her daughter Ardene Ballantine of Ft. Myers, Florida; five grandchildren, Carla Cose and her husband, Gordon of Denison; Bruce Paulsen and his wife, Cindi of Schleswig; Lynette Tiefenthaler and her husband, Steve of Holstein, Iowa; Debbie Helton and her husband, Gary of Cape Coral, Florida; and Barbie McMurray and her husband, Darin of Ft. Myers, Florida; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 3, 2004 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Chris Burtnett officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Wendy Bumann provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Rock of Ages, Cleft For Me" and "How Great Thou Art". Those serving as pallbearers were: Steve Tiefenthaler, Andrew Tiefenthaler, Bruce Paulsen, Jeremy Paulsen, Gordon Cose and Tyson Cose. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Claus Heinrich Petersen (1905 - 1997)
Claus Heinrich Petersen was born April 9, 1905, the son of Peter W. and Hulda Brockman Petersen. He died at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at the age of ninety-one.Henry was born in Hanover Township, Crawford County and was baptized in Christ June 4, 1905 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township by Pastor Runge and later confirmed there in March 1920 by Pastor Ed Firnhaber.
After receiving his education, he joined his parents and brothers starting the Peter W. Petersen and Sons' farming operation, known as the Sunny Slope Stock farm. In August of 1942, Henry entered the United States Army. After receiving his honorable discharge he returned to the Schleswig area to farm with his family.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. He was a loving brother and uncle who in his leisure time he enjoyed fishing. He also loved the challenge of picture puzzles and was pleased and excited when completed with the joy of giving them to family and friends. Henry entered the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison on April 17, 1996.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bernhard, February 28, 1956; one niece, Elaine Schroeder, March 5, 1942; and one great-niece, Sandra Ramer, April 16, 1991.
Survivors include two brothers, Jurgen Petersen of Eventide; Emil Petersen and his wife, Lillie of Schleswig; one sister, Elsie Carstensen and her husband, Fred of Ida Grove; one sister-in-law, Leila Zage of Schleswig; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; two great-great-nieces; two great-great-nephews; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 28, 1997, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Henry Henningsen singing, "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But A Stranger Here" and congregational hymn "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Those serving as pallbearers were Wayne Schroeder, Dean Schroeder, Patrick Hanrahan, Jens Carstensen, Daniel Schroeder, Darryl Petersen, Chad Petersen, Jay Petersen, Don Hanrahan, Alan Nemitz, Dave Nemitz and Tim Stoppel.

Dora (Jahn) Jepsen (1904 - 1964)
Funeral services were conducted at the United Church of Christ on Thursday, December 17, 1964 at 1:30 p.m. for Mrs William J. (Dora Jahn) Jepsen of rural Schleswig, with Rev. R. J. Ratzlaff officiating. Mrs Jepsen passed away Tuesday morning, December 15 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital at the age of 60, after a lingering illness.Mrs Jepsen was born on April 17, 1904 in Germany to the late Gustave and Frieda Jahn. She came to America at the age of three and the family settled in Schleswig.
On November 8, 1923 she married William J. Jepsen. They farmed south of Schleswig since their marriage.
Survivors include the widower, two sons, Alfred and Leonard and a daughter, LeMorne all at home, another daughter, Mrs Melvin Quandt (Marion) of rural Schleswig, another daughter, Mrs Richard Cordoza (Elaine) of Omaha, Nebraska and three grand children, Randy, Susan and Cindy Quandt as well as other relatives and friends.
Mrs Harlan Buffum and Mrs Ray Martens sang a duet with Mrs John Evers at the organ. Hymns were "Beyond the Sunset" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Pallbearers were Vernon Kuehnhold, Arnold Jepsen, Fred J. Jepsen, Herman W. Jepsen, William Jeschke, and Fred W. Jepsen. Interment was in Morgan Cemetery.

Ennis James Stoltenberg (1891 - 1970)
Military funeral services for Ennis J. Stoltenberg were held athe United Church of Christ on July 30 with the Rev. R.J. Ratzliff officiating. The organist was Mrs. John Evers and Mrs. Ernie Grell and Mrs. Don Meyer sang, "Take My Hand Precious Lord" and "How Great Thou Art".Ennis James Stoltenberg, son of Ernest and wife, Anna nee Raabe Stoltenberg, was born December 27, 1891 in Holstein, and departed from this life on July 27 (1970), at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital following a lingering illness. He attained the age of 78 years and 7 months.
He attended Duncan's Business College in Davenport. On November 29, 1917 he was married to Elma Lorenzen at Papillion, Nebraska. Two sons, Darrell and Kenneth were born to this family. Lt. Kenneth Stoltenberg was killed in action over Formosa during World War II.
Mr. Stoltenberg was a veteran of World War I and a resident of the Schleswig community for 60 years. During this time he was engaged in business with The Armour and Co., and operated a mercantile business from which he retired in 1946. He was active in all community affairs, not only while in business, but also after he retired.
Survivors include his wife, Elma, one son, Darrell of South Bend, Indiana, one daughter-in-law, Alverda, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, one brother, and his parents.
Military honors were performed by the Schleswig V.F.W. and the American Legion. Burial was in Morgan Cemetery.

Erich Karl Pagel (1895 - 1976)
Erich Karl Pagel was born May 25, 1895 in Hamburg, Germany. He was a confirmed member of the Christian faith in the Schleswig United Church of Christ. He died Feb. 25, 1976 at his home in Schleswig. He attained the age of 80 years and 9 months.Erich was united in marriage to Anni Timmson in Germany and immigrated with their children to America in 1930. He worked as a laborer and later went into farming. They lost their son, Horst, in 1941 after a tragic accident in their first Schleswig home.
Erich and his wife moved to Missouri in 1951 and purchased a farm. In a few years, his wife Anni became ill and after several years of suffering, she died April 30, 1963. Erich moved back to Schleswig, where he spent his remaining years as a retired farmer. Erich loved nature. His greatest pastimes were fishing and watching television.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Horst, and his wife, Anni.
The only known survivors of the Pagel family are two sisters, both of whom live in Germany.
Memorial Services were held in the Schleswig United Church of Christ on Feb. 27, at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Fred Moore officiated. Music was provided by Barbara Buffum and Malinda Evers. Hymns of praise were "Rock of Ages" and "Beyond the Sunset". Pallbearers were Emmett Hollander, Edwin Schmadeke, Harlan Buffum, Werthus Grill, Dennis Pierce and Donald Meyer. Burial was in Morgan Twp. Cemetery. Sinn's Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Ernst Carl Friedrich Blunck (1882 - 1964)
Ernst Carl Friedrich Blunck, son of Henry Blunck and Louise nee Winter, was born Jan. 5, 1882 in Oldenburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Here he was baptized in early infancy and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith.He was married to Anna Paulsen on Sept. 6, 1903 a union to which four children were born. They came to America in 1922 making their home in Denison. Here he was active in the produce business for many years. Mrs. Blunck preceded him in death in 1961.
In poor health in recent years he made his home with his daughters. He was taken to the local hospital on May 18 where he died on June 6 (1964).
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Louise Bliesmann and Mrs. Annamarie Hass of Denison; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Helena Peist and Mrs. Charlotte Klum both of Germany. Two sons, Fritz and Peter preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the Zion Lutheran church on June 8, with Rev. Frederick Wiese officiating. Interment at the Morgan Township cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Herman Haase, Conrad Kruthoff, Vince Lengeling, Dr. R. F. Logan, James Mander and Ace Nelson.

Ernest E. Schmidt (abt. 1896 - 1965)
Ernest E. Schmidt 69 died suddenly of a heart attack at the Methodist hospital in Omaha early Saturday morning. Prayer services were held Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Kremer Funeral home. They were conducted by Dr. Paul De Fresse of Kaintze Memorial which they have been members for 40 years.Funeral services were held at the United Church of Christ on Tuesday, October 19 (1965), at 11:00 a.m. for Ernest E. Schmidt. Mrs Broder Petersen was organist and accompanied Mrs Ernie Grell and Mrs Donald Meyer who sang "Abide With Me" and "Lead On O King Eternal".
Ernie was born in Charlotte, lowa to Hans and Marie Schmidt. He came to Schleswig in 1911 and married Rose Paulsen in 1920. The young couple moved to Omaha in 1923. He was in the drug store business in Omaha for 40 years. He owned the Country Club Pharmacy in Omaha for 12 years.
He is survived by his wife, Rose, one brother C. I. Schmidt of Long Beach, California, three sisters, Mrs Lillian Schultz, Mrs Loretta Miller of Schleswig and Mrs Paul Jepsen of Santa Barbara, California and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Don Johns, Shirley Schultz, Whitey Paulsen, Herbert Peters, Bryon Behrmann and Leonard Hollander. Interment was in Morgan cemetery.

Ernest Reuwsaat (1886 - 1976)
Funeral services for Ernest Reuwsaat were held Tuesday, December 7, 1976 at 2 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home, Manilla. Rev. Donald Joens of the United Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Nishnabota Cemetery. Mrs. Roy Rutherford accompanied by Mrs. Charles E. Agan sang "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art."Ernest, son of Heinrich and Angie Kramer Reuwsaat, was born August 17, 1886 at Williamburg, Ill. As a small boy he came with his family to the Defiance community.
He was united in marriage with Sarah Trexel on March 20, 1918. This union was blessed with seven children. They farmed most of their married life in Crawford County, retiring to Manilla in 1957. Due to failing health they moved to Woodbine in 1971 to be with their daughter, Rose.
Mrs. Reuwsaat died March 12, 1973. Ernest continued to make his home with his daughter until entering Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison in July of this year.
About three months ago he moved to Manilla Manor where he died Friday, December 3, 1976 at the age of 90 years, three months and 16 days.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by one granddaughter his parents and five brothers.
He is survived by his seven children, Miss Emily Reuwsaat, Bloomsbury, Pa., Rose, Mrs. Vernon Skarin, Woodbine, Gertrude, Mrs. Francis Steinmetz, Fairbury, Nebr., Ben Reuwsaat, San Jose, Calif., Robert Reuwaast, Canon City, Colo., Laura, Mrs. Louis Mottinger, Cedar Rapids, and Caroline, Mrs. Lynn Dent, Irwin, by 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one brother, Henry of Denison and one sister, Mrs. Flora Miller, Woodbine as well as by many other relatives and friends.

Ernst August Kusch (1889 - 1965)
Funeral services for Ernst A. Kusch wore held Monday morning at the Immanuel Lutheran church. The congregation sang, "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth" and the choir sang, "Be Still My Soul." They were accompanied on the organ by Mrs Ray Schmidt. Rev. C. W. Schmidt read the following obituary:Ernst August Kusch, son of Albert Kusch and Ida nee Garbe was born January 8th, 1889 at Wisketzin, Germany. He came to America in October 1912 and made his home in Schleswig where he has always lived.
His health has not been too' good the past few years and he died at his home in Schleswig on Saturday morning, April 17th (1965).
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Germany and was a member of many years in the Immanuel Lutheran church.
He was married to Katherina nee Ullrich on March 8, 1924 in Schleswig. Mr Kusch ran the drayage business for many years in Schleswig.
He is survived by his wife Katherina, six children: Ernst, Jr. of Omaha, Nebraska, Lucas of Schleswig, Edna, wife of John Pariss of Oceanside, California, Esther, wife of Pastor James F. Hawley of Decatur, Illinois, Joan, wife of Donald Schwartz of North Platte, Nebraska and William of Schleswig and six grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters: Mrs Johannes Bottger of Schleswig, Mrs Julius Finnern of Omaha, Nebraska and Mrs William Aevermann of Gladbrook, Iowa.
One son, Fritz, four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. He attained to 76 years, three months and nine days.
Burial was made in the Morgan cemetery. The pallbearers were: Hugo C. Dahms, Walter Petersen, Leonard Hollander, Ray Schmidt, Arthur Hollander and C. H. Claussen.

Eugene L. Fink (abt. 1895 - 1969)
Deloit - Eugene L. Fink, 74, died at his home in Deloit. Monday morning, May 12 (1969). A life time resident of Crawford County, Mr. Fink was a, prominent agriculturist and active in many worthwhile community and county projects. He was employed or the R.E.C. Board before being elected to the board, he served as farm assessor in Otter Creek and Milford Townships and Deloit for 12 years.The next eight years he was engaged in Land and Building Evaluation and until his retirement he was grading inspector for all the county roads. For 12 years he has been a member of Kiwanis. He has served Deloit as mayor and councilman. He was a rural school director for years and a member of the Denison Community School Board. In earlier years he was Director of Farmers Elevator and director and vice-president of State Savings Bank of Deloit.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred, four sons, Donald, Harold, and Mervin of Deloit and Lt. Col. Charles Fink, Merced, California and 17 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the United Methodist Church in Deloit with burial in the Oakland Cemetery in Denison.

Eva E. (Myer) Elwell (1899 - 1963)
Manning - Funeral rites for Mrs. Tom (Eva E.) Elwell, 62, were held Jan. 28 at the Manilla Methodist church at 1, with Rev. Willis E. Grant officiating. Burial was in Nishnahotna cemetery near Manilla. It was taken to the church from the Ohde-Greteman Funeral home in Manilla.Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Myer, she was born Aug. 15, 1899 near Logan, and attended country schools near her home.
She was married on Oct. 14, 1931 at Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Elwell lived on farms near Gray, Manning and Manilla, and for the past ten years near Deloit.
She entered Jennie Edmundson hospital in Council Bluffs on Dec. 20 for surgery, and for the past 12 days had been in a nursing home in Omaha operated by her sister, Mrs. Paul Goddard. She died there early Saturday morning, Jan. 26 (1963).
She is survived by her husband, a daughter: Mrs. Russell (Dixie) Johnson, Denison: five grandchildren: Cindy, Tommy, Beth Ann, Russell Ryan and Robert Johnson: three brothers, Ed and Wesley Myer, Logan: Roy Myer, Missouri Valley; four sisters, Mrs. Lynn McGuire, Missouri Valley, Mrs. Harve Van Arsdol, Arion, Mrs. Murray Hill, Lyons, Nebr., and Mrs. Goddard. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Franklin Dorfler (1897 - 1987)
Franklin Dorfler was born on a farm in Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa, February, 11, 1897, the son of John and Edith Meyer Dorfler. He was raised on the family farm and attended the local rural schools. He later furthered his education attending business courses in Denison.Franklin was united in marriage with Adela Schultz at her parents' home in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa, August 21, 1928. To this union two daughters were born, Frances and Gloria.
They made their home on a family farm in Soldier Township, where they resided until retiring in 1960 and moved to Ricketts. Adela died February 16, 1972, and Franklin continued to spend his retirement years in Ricketts.
On July 12, 1983, Franklin moved to the Dunlap Care Center at Dunlap, Iowa, where his death occurred Wednesday evening, March 25, 1987. At the time of his death, he had attained the age of 90 years, 1 month and 14 days.
For over 50 years, Franklin was a Crawford County Livestock Shipper to both the Omaha Stockyards and the Sioux City Stockyards. He will be well remembered by his participation in the Iowa State Fair parades, as well as many community parades with his team of six hitched goats. He was a longtime member of the Charter Oak Masonic Lodge which is now known as the Loyalty Lodge #598, A.F. & A.M., Ute, Iowa, and was a member of the Sioux City Scottish Rite Bodies.
Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Adela, one brother who died in infancy, and one granddaughter, Janet Rabe.
He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Frances and Vernon Rabe of Sioux City, Iowa, and Gloria and Beryl Garrett of Dunlap, Iowa, four grandchildren, Wanita, Mrs. D.L. Bishop of Sioux City, Beverly Rabe of Sioux City, Steven and Deb Garrett of Charter Oak and Debbie Garrett of Dunlap, four great-grandchildren, Randy, Jana and Ericka Bishop of Sioux City and Alex Garrett of Charter Oak, and one brother, John Dorfler of Charter Oak. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Masonic funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 1987, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, with Joe Jessen as narrator. Music for the services was provided by Mr. Henry Henningsen singing "How Great Thou Art" and "It Is No Secret" with Mrs. Fred Rabe serving as organist. Casket bearers included Steven Garrett, Randy Bishop, John M. Dorfler, Paul Schwarz, Milford Schultz and Albrecht Koch. Interment was in the St. Paul's Cemetery at Charter Oak.

Frank Roecker (1898 - 1968)
Frank Roecker 70, of Schleswig died unexpectedly from an apparent heart attack at his home, Sunday afternoon, February 9 (1968). Funeral Masses were held at 10:00 a.m. February 12 at the St. Boniface Church in Charter Oak with burial in St. Boniface Cemetery in Westphalia, Iowa.Frank Roecker was born on March 4, 1898 to John and Elizabeth Fuerbuern Roecker at Greeley, Kansas. He married Anna Stoitz on April 4, 1923. She died October 20, 1928. Three children were born to this union. Donald of Carroll, Edna, Mrs. Harold Schroeder of Westside and Norma, Mrs. Ivan Rowedder of Denison.
On August 26, 1930 he married Lavina Stoltz. To this union the following children were born: Norbert of Denison, Marvin of Watson, Missouri, Tech. Sgt. Rolland of Vandenburg, Air Force Base California, Kenneth of Schleswig and Charla of Omaha.
He is survived by his widow, eight children, twenty-one grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs Mary Setter of Greeley, Kansas, Mrs. Adeline Zimmer of Brinktown, Missouri and Mrs. Josephine Kloewar of Manilla and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents and four brothers.
Pallbearers were Bernard Setter, Martin Setter, David Setter, Orviile Roecker, Richard Rowedder, and Dennis Rowedder.

Fred C. Christiansen (1892 - 1963)
Funeral services for Fredrick C. Christiansen were held Tuesday, April 23rd at the United Church of Christ (E&R). Rev. Walter Baumgartner read the following obituary:Fred C. Christiansen, son of Samuel and Anna Christiansen was born on August 10, 1892, in Crawford County, Iowa.
On February 23, 1916, he was united in marriage to Selma Ericksen of Schleswig. To this union four children were born. Mr and Mrs Christiansen were engaged in farming in Crawford County and in Silver Creek township in Ida County. In 1959, they moved to their present home north of Arthur. Mr Christiansen was baptized in infancy. He became a member of the Evangelical Church, now the United Church of Christ, through the rite of confirmation on May 10, 1930.
He was a hard and conscientious worker and enjoyed good health. However, during the last few years his health began to fail, He became seriously ill over a week ago, and was taken to the Ida Grove hospital, where he died, Sunday morning, April 21, 1963. He attained the age of 70 years, 8 months, and 11 days.
He is survived by his widow, Selma, a son, Vernon of Arthur, Iowa; three daughters, Mabel, Mrs Harold Wunschel of Arthur, Iowa, Viola, Mrs Raymond Namanny and Loween, Mrs George Lansing of Ida Grove, Iowa; six grandsons and one great-grand daughter; four sisters and three brothers: Mrs Otto Evers of Denison, Mrs Albert Miller of Schleswig, Mrs Paul Baer of Schleswig, Mrs Morris Riddle of Whittier, California, George of Denison, Louie of Lander Wyoming and Ben of Lander, Wyoming, and a large number of other relatives and a host of friends.
Burial was made in the Morgan cemetery. Pallbearers were: LaVern Ryberg. William Ullrich, Darrell Noll, Edward Schrieber, Frank Franzkowiak and Lea Wag....

Frederick W. Dersien (1898 - 1987)
Frederick W. Dersien was born Oct. 24,1898 on a farm near Manilla, Ia. in Crawford County, to William and Catherina Radeck. He attended rural schools in Crawford County. He was baptized and was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Deloit.In Sept. of 1940, he was united in marriage to Selma Retman. To this union one son was born, Robert Dersien. They made their home in Denison where he was employed by Walter Neumann at the Neumann Firestone. His wife died Aug. 31, 1963. Fred retired in 1980 and on Nov. 16, 1982 he entered Eventide Lutheran Home.
Fred died May 21, 1987 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 88 years, 6 months and 27 days.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife Selma, his parents, five brothers: Henry, William, Hans, Carl, Edward, and one sister, Lena Dersien.
He is survived by one son, Robert Dersien of Racine, Wis., and three sisters, Sophie Pobanz of Deloit, Mollie Peters of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Minnie Lorenzen of Denison, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. May 26, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, with the Rev. Hilmer Hafner officiating. Music for the service was provided by the congregation singing "Rock of Ages", "Just As I Am", and "Crown Him With Many Crowns". Anna Marie Rabe served as the organist. Pallbearers included Bryan Dersien, David Kremin, Steve Kremin, Mark Kremin, Robert Wingrove, and Ed Lorenzen. Interment was at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Fred Jochim Eggert (1892 - 1972)
Fred Jochim Eggert, son of Adolph and Alvina Ruberg Eggert was born on Sept. 15, 1892 in Hanover township, Crawford county, Ia.He attended country school and worked on the farm until his marriage to Ella Hildebrandt on Jan. 25, 1922 in Denison with the Rev. Mr. Frazey officiating. The couple continued to make their home on the farm until moving to Denison several years later. To this union was born one son, Harry.
After moving to Denison Mr. Eggert owned and operated his own truck line and then sold to the Boyens Truck Lines and drove for them for a time. He was Denison City Street Commissioner for four years and then was associated with the Maxwell Funeral Home until the family moved to Mesa, Ariz, in 1952. In Arizona Mr. Eggert was maintenance custodian of a Lutheran church until the family returned to Denison to make their home in 1970.
Mr. Eggert was taken to Crawford County Memorial Hospital where he died on October 29, 1972 at the age of 30 years, one month and 14 days after a short illness.
He is survived by his wife Ella of Denison; son Harry, daughter-in-law Jean and grandson Damon of Page, Ariz., two brothers, Johannes and William of Denison; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law Mrs. Annie Klink; brothers-in-law and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. John Hildebrandt, Mr. and Mrs. William Boyens and Emil Hildebrandt, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a. m. on Thursday. Nov. 2 at Zion Lutheran church in Denison with Rev. Robert Maschke officiating. Mrs. Fred Rabe, organist, accompanied soloist Henry Henningsen. Pallbearers were Floyd Boger, Edward Eggert, Harold Eggert, Henry Eggert, Alfred Petersen and Ronald Paulsen. Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery.

Fred C. Seehusen (1892 - 1966)
Funeral services for Fred C. Seehusen of Schleswig were held Friday, May 27, 1966 at the United Church of Christ with Rev. R. J. Katzlaff officiating. Mrs John Evers, organist, accompanied Mrs Ernie Grell and Mrs Ray Martens, who sang, "Just As I Am" and "Rock of Ages."Fred C. Seehusen was born February 1, 1892 in Crawford County to Mr and Mrs Claus Seehusen.
On January 14, 1920 he was united in marriage to Lillie L. Mohr of Schleswig. To this union 2 daughters were born. Mrs Vernon (Esther) Hulsebus from Denison, Iowa and Mary Ellen Glick of Phoenix, Arizona.
Mr Seehusen was a World War I veteran and a life-time resident of this community and a member of the United Church of Christ. He died at his home after a lingering illness on May 25th. He attained the age of 74 years, three months and 24 days.
Survivors include his widow, Lillie, 2 daughters Esther and Mary Ellen, and a sister Vena Shut of Battle Creek. He was proceeded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
Interment was in the Morgan Cemetery with military honors.

Frieda (Schroeder) Evers (1896 - 1974)
Mrs. Frieda Evers was born on May 18, 1896 in Crawford County near Schleswig, Iowa. She was the daughter of Jurgen and Johanna Schroeder. She attended school in Schleswig.On March 6, 1918, she was united in marriage to William Evers at Schleswig. They farmed in this vicinity and moved to Holstein in 1962. Mrs. Evers was a member of the United Methodist Church in Holstein, and was active in its Dorcas Circle.
Frieda Evers passed away early Saturday morning, October 19, 1974, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove after a short illness.
She is survived by a son, Charles, and his wife, Emmogene, of Schleswig, and by a daughter, LaVaughn, and her husband, Robert Frank, of Galva, and by four grandchildren, Michael Frank of Dickinson, North Dakota, Steven Frank of Moorhead, Minnesota, Collin Frank of Ames, Iowa, and Sandy Evers of Schleswig, and by two great-grandchildren, Michael and Patrick Frank of Dickinson. She is also survived by two brothers, Ed Schroeder of Schleswig, and Walter Schroeder of Hemet, California, and by a sister, Mrs. Olga Carnes of Holstein, and by a stepbrother, Busch Frahm of Sioux City, Iowa.
Mrs. Evers was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William, and an infant daughter.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., October 21, 1974, at the United Methodist Church in Holstein with the Rev. Merlin Davies officiating. Burial was in the Holstein Cemetery.

Frieda (Stender) Jepsen (1896 - 1968)
Frieda Jepsen was born in Clinton county on Jan. 8, 1896. She died Oct. 17 (1968) at her home at 907 2nd Avenue South having reached the age of 72 years. She was the daughter of the late John Stender and Christiana Wiedemann.On Dec. 20, 1916, she married Peter J. Jepsen in Denison and in 1966, the observed their golden wedding anniversary.
Survivors include her husband, three children, Eva (Mrs. Irvin Bielenberg) of Charter Oak; Mrs. George Brodersen of Denison and Ray of Denison, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.
She was preceded in death by per parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 19 at 2 p. m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Rev. Ralph Ratzlaff officiated. Music was furnished by Mrs. Malinda Evers, Mrs. Amy Meyer and Mrs. Barb Buffum. Pallbearers were Merle Bielenberg, Ronald Bielenberg, Darrell Brodersen, Richard Bielenberg, Virgil Bielenberg and Ronald Fritz.

Frieda Louise (Weifenbach) Schable (1889 - 1972)
Frieda Louise Schable, the daughter of George and Louise Abbe Weifenbach, was born at Mulhausen, Germany, on September 13, 1889. In the year 1900, at the age of 11 years, she came to the United States with her parents when they settled on a farm near Schleswig Iowa.She married Carl L. Schable on March 29, 1908, at Grant Township Lutheran Church. The couple then farmed near Schleswig, Ida Grove, and Mapleton before moving into the town of Danbury in 1938 when they retired. In 1958 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Frieda was baptized in Germany and confirmed in the Christian faith at Grant Township Lutheran Church in April 1904. She was also a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Mapleton.
Frieda departed this life at the Battle Creek hospital, Sunday, November 19, 1972, after a brief illness, having attained he age of 83 years, 2 months and 6 days.
Survivors include three daughters: Louise, Mrs. Art Krueger, Charter Oak, Iowa; Doris, Mrs. Julius Jepsen, Correctionville, Iowa; and Minnie, Mrs. Raymond Berner, Seymour, Iowa; two sons: Carl W. Schable and Louis H. Schable, both of Danbury; 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl in 1960. four brothers, two sisters and twin grandsons.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 22, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. E. E. Greene officiating. Burial was in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Casketbearers were Edward Krueger, Charlie Jensen, Estel Tuttle, Wayne Steinbach, Chester Burton and Tom Schrank. Walter Funeral Home of Mapleton was in charge of arrangements.

Frieda (Schurke) Schmidt (1894 - 1968)
Mrs. Lewis Schmidt passed away at her home on West Broadway Monday night, Oct. 21 (1968), at the age of seventy-four years and eight days.She was born Frieda Schurke, the daughter of August Schurke and his wife, Mary (Pithan) Schurke on Oct. 13, 1894 in Stockholm Township, Crawford County, Iowa. Baptized in infancy, she affiliated with the Lutheran Church by the rite of Confirmation in St. John Lutheran Church of Deloit.
She was married to Lewis C. Schmidt on Jan. 21, 1914, a marriage to which two sons were born. They farmed in Otter Creek Township until retiring to live in Denison in 1964. Mrs. Schmidt has been a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Zion Ladies aid for many years.
Her funeral service was held at the Zion Lutheran Church on Oct. 24, with the Rev. Carl W. Schmidt officiating. Hymns were sung by the Lutheran Ladies quartet with Mrs. Fred Rabe serving as organist. Interment was made in the Morgan Township cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Jimmy Schmidt, Alvin Schurke, LeRoy Schurke, Lodean Schmidt, Eldred Schurke and Raymond Schurke.
Survivors include the widower, Lewis Schmidt, two sons, Arlo and Virgil of Denison; four grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Schurke of Kiron and Walter of Denison; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Thiede of Denison. Preceding her in death were five brothers and two sisters.

Friedrich J. Schroeder (1887 - 1969)
Friedrich J. Schroeder, the son of Jochim Schroeder and his wife, Christine nee Hansen, was born November 25, 1887 in Wyoming, Jones County, Iowa.He came with his parents to live in Crawford County and here was married to Adela Marquardt on November 20, 1912. They lived on the farm in Goodrich Township and later in Hayes Township, Ida County. In 1948 they came to live in Denison. Mrs. Schroeder preceded him in death in 1968. The past months he was resident at the Eventide home where he passed away, Friday, December 5 (1969)
Baptized in his youth he became a member of the Lutheran Church by the rite of Confirmation in 1937. At the time of his death he was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
His funeral was held at Zion Lutheran Church on Monday morning, December 8th with Pastor Carl W. Schmidt officiating. Hymns were sung by the Lutheran Ladies Choir with Mrs. Fred Rabe serving as organist. Interment was made in the Morgan Township Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Edward Dahleen, Peter T. Jepsen, Edgar Marquardt, Edward Marquardt, J. Henry Schroeder and Henry Thomsen.
Survivors include a grandson, Wayne Schroeder of Ida Grove, one sister, Mrs. Caroline Schuett of Creighton, Nebraska; three brothers; Joe of Jackson, Minnesota, Herman of Loveland, Colorado and August of Round Lake Minnesota, and more distant relatives.
Preceding him in death were his wife, a son Freddie who died in 1944 and a granddaughter that died in infancy.

Fritz Block (1886 - 1965)
Fritz Block was born Nov. 3, 1886 and died suddenly at the age of 78 on July 19, 1965.He was born and baptized in Husum, Germany, in Hanover Province. There he was also confirmed into the Lutheran faith in March of 1901. At the age of 16, in 1903, he came to the United States.
He was married to Emma Lowewe in 1914 and they began farming then. Three sons were born to this couple: Paul, Meinhardt and Henry.
In 1954 his wife died and a year later he married Lena Beermann. He remained active in community affairs and in the management of his farms until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Lena, two sons, Paul and Meinhardt, four step-children, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma, one son, Henry, who died in infancy, two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services were held in St. John's Lutheran church at Buck Grove on July 23, at 2 p. m. with Rev. K. J. Braun officiating. Pallbearers were Alfred Carstens, Herman Hast, Walter Hoffmeier, Hairy Lueck, Emil Neiwohner and Werner Reiff. Interment was in the Lutheran cemetery.

Frederick William Evers (1873 - 1967)
F. William Evers, a resident of Crawford county since 1882 died at the Denison Memorial hospital on Monday, Sept. 4 (1967). He had entered the hospital on Sept. 1.Frederick William Evers, son of Peter H. Evers and Marie (Mueller) Evers, was born Sept. 14, 1873 in Germany. At the age of nine he came to America and lived in Crawford county with the exception of two years spent in Montana as a young man.
He was married to Joachine Rahn on March 1, 1899. To this union four children were born. They farmed for a short time in Milford township, then in Goodrich township where they resided until coming to make their home in Denison in 1928. Mrs. Evers died on Jan. 27, 1966.
Mr. Evers was baptized in infancy in Germany and later joined the Zion Lutheran church in Denison by the rite of confirmation.
Funeral services were held here on Sept. 7 at 11 a. m. with Rev. Carl W. Schmidt officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Fred Rabe as organist with hymns being sung by the Lutheran Ladies Choir. Interment was made in the Oakland cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Wilmer Denker, Derald Evers. Don Eyler, Melvin Holdsworth, Ralph Vogt and Virgil Winquist.
Survivors include two sons, Edward and William of Denison and one daughter, Mrs. Rosa Denker of Denison, 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren as well as a brother, Detlef of Visalia, Calif. His wife and a daughter, who died in infancy, preceded him in death.

Harold Fred Schultz (1906 - 1984)
Harold Fred Schultz was born on June 30, 1906, near Schleswig, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Louise Nemitz Schultz, He died on Sunday morning, December 9, 1984, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, at the age of 78.Harold grew up on a family farm near Schleswig. He received his early education in the rural schools near his home. He was baptized as an infant and later while attending St. Paul's Lutheran School in Hanover Township he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 12, after his father's early death, Harold began farming with his family.
He was united in marriage to Vernette Miller on March 25, 1934, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Together, they made their home on a farm near Schleswig until 1955 when they moved into the Schleswig community. Harold worked for Concordia Insurance and Farm Bureau Insurance. For the past twenty years, he has worked as a carpenter, building many homes. Harold was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for eleven years.
Survivors include his wife Vernette of Schleswig, one daughter, Carol and her husband Ervin Neddermeyer of Schleswig, one son Curtis and his wife Janice of Schleswig, six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Also surviving are five sisters, Gertrude Schultz of Denison, Edna Kastner, Lydia Hollander, and Leona, Mrs, Theo. A. Aldag, all of Schleswig and Lillie, Mrs. Bayard Johnson, of Kiron.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 12, 1984, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Richard Nelson officiated at the services. Mrs. Leroy Hight served as organist with the congregation singing hymns "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers included Wayne Schultz, James Aldag, Gerald Pedersen, Gordon Nahnsen, Larry Clausen and Lorenz Schultz.

Harold Francis Krohnke (1905 - 1985)
Harold Francis Krohnke was born Aug. 12, 1905, in Schleswig, Iowa the son of Julius and Mary Volkmann Krohnke. He died Jan. 18, 1985 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 79.Harold spent his formative years in the Schleswig community. He received his early education in the Morgan Township school number 7. Following graduation from the Schleswig High School in 1924, he farmed with his father near Schleswig.
On June 21, 1939, Harold was united in marriage to the former Margaret Miller at the St. Boniface Catholic Church rectory in Charter Oak. Together they made their home on the Krohnke family farm. After retirement from farming in 1975, they moved into the Charter Oak community. Since Margaret's death in 1981, Harold continued to make his home in Charter Oak until entering the hospital on Dec. 26, 1984, due to failing health.
Harold was preceded in death by both of his parents. Survivors include one son, Francis and wife Durene of rural Schleswig and one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Krohnke of Denver, Colo. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Michele, Mrs. Dale Lilleholm of rural Denison and Cheryl Krohnke of Schleswig; two grandsons, Jeffery and Jason of Schleswig; one great grandson, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak. The Rev. Fred Moore officiated at the services. Mrs. Paul Clausen served as organist for the services with Henry Henningsen as soloist. Hymns included, "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Burial was in the St. Boniface Cemetery near Charter Oak. Serving as pallbearers were Wilbert Prussing, Donald Staley, LeRoy Mathews, Steve Mathews, John Bahnsen and Gaylen Bahnsen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Charter Oak.

Harry A. Korner (1902 - 1975)
Funeral services for Harry A. Korner were held Thursday, September 4, 1975, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, with the Rev. Theo. A. Letzring officiating. Mrs. Donald Thompson served as organist. The congregation sang "Just As I Am" and the choir sang "Rock of Ages".Harry Korner, son of Herman and Louise Korner, was born September 12, 1902, in Hanover Township and died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison on September 1, 1975. He reached the age of 72 years, 11 months and 20 days.
He lived around the Schleswig area and married Dora Kuehl on October 29, 1924. On May 5, 1925, he confirmed his faith in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and remained a life-long member of the congregation. They farmed in the Schleswig and Mapleton areas until he retired in 1969 when they moved to Schleswig. Dora died in November, 1972. He married Helen Engel in May, 1975.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Dora, two brothers Art and Leo and one sister Esther.
Survivors include his wife Helen, one son Willie and his wife Ione of Odebolt, one daughter Wilhelmina, wife of Edward Edsen of Ida Grove, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, seven stepsons, twenty-one step grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren, three brothers Walter and Ben of Schleswig and Carl of Charter Oak, and many other relatives and friends.
Bearers were: Dale Edsen, Leon Edsen, Lynn Bluml, Jim Spotts, Dale Petersen and Dennis Gierstorf. Interment was made in Morgan Cemetery.

Harry George Rath (1900 - 1982)
Harry George Rath was born on May 20, 1900 in Nishnabotna Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of August and Hannah Harder Rath. He died Oct. 19, 1982, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, at the age of 82 after a long illness.Harry was raised on a family farm in Nishnabotna Township. He received his education in the rural schools near his home.
On March 15, 1922, he was united in marriage to Anna Popken in Denison. Together the made their first home on a farm north of Buck Grove. Five years later they moved to a farm south of Denison where they remained for the past fifty-five years. Last March, Harry and Anna celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Harry was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran in Denison. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one infant son and one sister.
Survivors include his wife Anna of Denison, one son. Leslie Rath and his wife Marguerite of Denison, one daughter Ruby Rath of Lincoln, Neb., and two grandchildren, Randy Rath and his wife Charyl and Rhonda Rath, both of Denison.
Funeral services were held Oct. 22, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. The Rev. Jack D. Heck officiated at the services. Hymns included How Great Thou Art, I'm But a Stranger Here and Christ The Lord Is Risen Today. Pallbearers were Earl Ransom, John Shields, LeRoy Comstock, Robert Collins, Charles Gordon and Eldon Brodersen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Harry Peter Meggers (1906 - 1996)
Harry Peter Meggers was born January 4,1906, the son of Frank and Dora Helmday Meggers. He died Tuesday, March 19, 1996 at the Denison Care Center in Denison at the age of ninety.Harry was born on a farm in Hanover Township near Denison, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ on April 26, 1906 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and later confirmed there on February 2, 1926. After receiving his education in a rural school near his home, he helped his family on the farm.
On December 21, 1932, Harry was united in marriage to Erma Rath at the Lutheran Parsonage in Denison by Rev. William Frese. The couple settled on the family farm and were blessed with the birth of two children. The couple retired from farming in 1971, at this time Harry continued repairing T.V. and radios with Clarence Bartlett and George Luetjens. In December of 1988, the couple made their home in Denison.
Harry was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed bowling, playing cards and fishing in Minnesota. Harry loved working with electronics, fixing T.V. and radios and manufacturing electric fences.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John A. Meggers, Julius Meggers, and two sisters, Lillian Listamann and Anna Meggers.
Survivors include his wife, Erma of Denison; two daughters, Norma Jaacks and her husband, Robert, Lois Petersen and her husband, Arlen all of Webster City, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Wilma Burmeister and her husband, Harold of Sioux City, four nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 1996 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Vicar Andrew Carlson officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, LarryBoeck singing "Just As I Am" and "The Old Rugged Cross" and congregational hymn "I Know that My Redeemer Lives". Harry Wellendorf (1905 - 1992)
Harry Wellendorf was born the son of Theodore and Annie Stange Wellendorf on February 24, 1905. He died on Tuesday, May 19, 1992 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison at the age of 87 years.Harry was born in Grant Township, Ida County, Iowa where he lived with his parents. He was baptized and confirmed in the Fridens Reformed Church in Schleswig as a young boy, and received his education in a rural school near his home.
On November 24,1927, Harry was united in marriage to Doretta Lafrentz at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Parsonage. The couple settled on a farm five miles south of Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of one daughter.
Harry continued farming until 1946 when he retired and they moved to Schleswig where he worked for the A.G. Schultz Hardware Store for 9 years. In the following years, he devoted his efforts to the community and church affairs. He designed the educational building at Immanuel and was on the building committee during the construction of Immanuel; and served on the church board for many as an Elder and Trustee; he served on the board of directors during the construction of Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison; and was president of the Schleswig Development Corporation and devoted much of his time in the building of the Schleswig Golf Course. Additionally, he was involved in the construction of a house and was always intrigued by the challenge of solving problems in his workshop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William and Albert and is survived by his wife Doretta of Schleswig, one daughter, Dorothy Enslen of Dyer, Indiana and one grandson, Bradford E. Enslen. Other surviviors include one sister, Helen Kastner of Eventide and one brother, Edwin and his wife Bernice Wellendorf of Audubon, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 22, 1992, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, with Rev. Richard E. Nelson officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Sharon Thompson provided the organ accompaniment for soloist Henry Henningsen singing "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" and congregational hymm "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me". Pallbearers were: Darrel Wellendorf, Harlan Wellendorf, Larry Wellendorf, Ronald Wellendorf, James Wellendorf, and Dale Wellendorf. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Harvey A. Clausen (1909 - 1996)
Harvey A. Clausen was born November 18, 1909, the son of Chris and Emma Namanny Clausen. He died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Saturday, December 14, 1996 at the age of eighty-seven.Harvey was born in Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa near Ricketts. He received his education in a rural school near his home and was baptized in Christ as an infant in 1910 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith there in 1923. After completing his education, Harvey helped his father farm.
March 28, 1934, he was united in marriage to Rose Jepsen in Sioux City. They were blessed with the birth of two daughters. The couple continued farming, and in 1940 they settled on a farm near Vail, Iowa. In 1958, Harvey joined the police force in Denison and returned to farming in 1960. In 1973, they retired and subsequently settled in Deloit in 1975.
In his leisure time, Harvey enjoyed fishing and in younger years, hunting. Additionally, he looked forward to socializing with his family and friends. He was a loving husband and father who devoted his life to his family and was a kind and considerate man to everyone. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Clarence in infancy and one sister, Freda Jeschke.
Survivors include his wife, Rose of Deloit; two daughters, Shirlee Clausen Hinojosa and her husband, Rudy of Menifee, California and Marlene Clausen of Knoxville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 17, 1996 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Daniel Gifford officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Renae Claussen singing "Rock of Ages, Cleft For Me", "I'm But A Stranger Here" and congregational hymn "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Pallbearers were: Marlin Aschinger, Berdell Jeschke, Earnie Riessen, Les Rosburg, Les Slechta and Don Fritz. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. Harvey A. Mohr (1904 - 1985)
Harvey A. Mohr was born on December 16, 1904, in Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Pete and Olga Wellendorf Mohr. He died Saturday evening, September 14, 1985, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, at the age of 80.Harvey was baptized and confirmed at an early age at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home.
Harvey was united in marriage to LuVerne Bielenberg on March 10, 1926, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Together they made their first home on a farm near Schleswig. They later moved to a farm in Stockholm Township. In 1930, they joined St. John's Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, where Harvey served on the board of trustees for eight years. In 1944, they moved to a farm near Schleswig and transferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.
Following retirement from farming on January 21, 1965, they moved into the town of Schleswig. Harvey served as clerk of Grant Township for several years and served as mayor of Schleswig for four years.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1904, his father in 1965, and his step-mother in 1978.
Survivors include his wife LuVerne of Schleswig and one daughter, Marlyn, Mrs. James Else of Schleswig. He is further survived by one granddaughter Vickie, Mrs. Walter R. Huebner of Denison, three great-grandchildren and two half-sisters, Rose, Mrs. Erwin Bendixen of Schleswig, and Lillie, Mrs. Howard Hirth of Sedona, Arizona, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 1985, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Interment was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Richard Nelson and Vicar Dr. John R. Stephenson officiated at the services and graveside rites. The Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Choir with Mrs. Marlene Hight as organist provided music for the services. Hymns for the services included "How Great Thou Art", "Rock of Ages" and "The Twenty-Third Psalm". Serving as pallbearers for the services were Orville Hansen, Leon Neubauer, Earl Bumann, Erwin Mohr, Herbert Wellendorf and Harvey Wellendorf.

Harvey John Jensen (1906 - 1974)
Harvey John Jensen, 67, Estherville, died December 7, 1974, at an Estherville hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. December 12 at the Estherville Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville.Mr. Jensen was born. December 30, 1906, at Schleswig. He was educated in Crawford County schools.
He married Alice Jepsen December 16, 1930, at Schleswig, They farmed in the Schleswig, Holstein and Denison areas after their marriage until 1954. In 1956 they moved to Estherville where he worked as a carpenter and later as a custodian at Emmett County State Bank.
Survivors include the widow; two sons, Glenn and Walter, both of Estherville; six daughters, Mrs. Donald Williams Sr. of Nazareth, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Donald Spoo of Estherville, Mrs. Jon Linquist of Lafayette, Minnesota and the Misses Elaine, Alice Fay and Janice, all at home, and 14 grandchildren.

Hattie Amanda (Duncan) Klinker (1905 - 1989)
Hattie Amanda Klinker, the daughter of James Henry and Sarah Beck Duncan, was born on April 6, 1905, in Paradise Township, Crawford County, near Kenwood, Ia. She died on Aug. 6, 1989, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, at the age of 84 years and four months.Hattie grew up on a farm near Kenwood and attended rural school there. She furthered her education at the Denison High School.
On Dec. 22, 1926, Hattie and Fred W. Lutts were united in marriage and made their home on a farm in the Kenwood area. This union was blessed with two daughters. Fred died in 1942, and Hattie was united in marriage to Herbert H. Klinker of Denison on June 16, 1946, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. They made their home in Denison. Hattie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid.
Preceding Hattie in death were her parents; her husband, Fred W. Lutts; one daughter, Sarah Jane Allen; three brothers: Louis and Allen Duncan as children and James Bernard Duncan and one sister, Helen Boettger.
Survivors include her husband Herbert; one daughter, Lois Schroeder of Denison; three grandchildren: Gregory Schroeder of Denison, Lori J. Hankins and her husband, Chuck of Denison, and Scott Schroeder and his wife, Cindy of Norfolk, Neb.; six great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter; three sisters-in-law: Mrs. Mary Duncan of Denison, Mrs. Junia McKinney of Sullivan, Ill., and Mrs. Arlene Henning of Ricketts; and one brother-in-law, Walter Klinker of Missouri Valley.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated at the services with interment in the Oakland Cemetery near Denison. Mrs. Karen Kahl was organist for Henry Henningsen as soloist. Selections were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages." The congregational hymn was "What A Friend We Have in Jesus." Hattie Christine Asmus was born March 31, 1908, the daughter of Henry and Linda Hollander Jahde. She died Thursday, November 15, 2001 at the Manilla Manor in Manilla, Iowa at the age of ninety-three.Hattie was born in Crawford County, Schleswig, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on April 6, 1930.
On December 21, 1928, Hattie was united in marriage to Ben Asmus in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple were blessed with the birth of one son, Vernon. Hattie was a longtime resident of Denison, Iowa moving to the Manilla Manor on June 1, 1999.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Ben, her son, Vernon; one brother, Clarence Jahde; one sister, Sylvia Broderick; and one half-brother, Roy Jahde.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Asmus of Gravois Mills, Missouri; two grandsons, Jeff Asmus and Randy Asmus; a great-granddaughter, Kinsey Asmus; a half-brother, Henry Jahde of Illinois; a half-sister, Rose, Marie Peterson; many nieces and nephews.
Grave side services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 19, 2001 at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Braden Daniels officiated the service with interment at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Hattie Charlotte (Groth) Slater (1905 - 1990)
Hattie Charlotte Slater, the daughter of Emil and Georgena Lamp Groth, was born November 24, 1905 in Bloomfield, Nebraska and died September 6, 1990 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 84 years.Hattie moved with her family as a young child to Phillips, South Dakota. This is where she received her formal education. The family later came to the Denison area and farmed near Denison, where Hattie helped with the work.
On February 20, 1924 Hattie was united in marriage to Carl Slater in Denison. This union was blessed with seven children. They farmed in East Boyer Township until 1961 when they retired and moved into Denison. A brief time later they moved to an acreage near Denison. Due to failing health, Hattie entered the Manilla Manor four years ago.
Preceding Hattie in death were her parents, her husband Carl in 1984; one grandson, Tom Slater; three brothers, Letel Groth, Robert Groth and Reynold Groth and one son-in-law, Joe Clinton.
Survivors include her children: James Slater and his wife Dorothy of Denison, Maxine Clinton of Denison, Robert Slater and his wife Delores of Denison, Charles Slater of Kiron, George Slater of Denison, Florence and her husband James Kennedy of Anaheim, California, and Carol and her husband Verdell Brus of Denison.
Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren; one brother, Hans Groth and his wife Ann of Pocatello, Idaho; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Groth of Carroll and Arlene Groth of Guerneville, California and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison on Saturday, September 8, 1990 at 2 p.m. Dr. James Cramer officiated at the services with interment in the Oakland Cemetery in Denison. Pamela Duffy was organist and Henry Henningsen was soloist. Solo selections were Rock of Ages and Beautiful Savior. Hattie Clara (Walde) Wulf (1904 - 1997)
Hattie Clara Walde Wulf was born May 26, 1904, the daughter of Paul and Marie Clausen Walde. She died Monday, June 30, 1997 at the Eventide Nursing Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-three.Hattie was born at Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, where she was baptized. At the age of three, she came to the United States with her parents, three brothers and her sister, Minnie and made their home in Denison. Hattie received her education at the Denison Community School and graduated with the class of 1922.
She was employed in the Crawford County Engineer's Office under Herb Fishel, until her marriage to Earl Wulf on September 26, 1923. The couple farmed south of Vail for twenty-nine years, and after retiring made their home in Denison.
Hattie was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison. She was active in Pioneer Diners' Club at the Denison Senior Center, after it was organized in February 17, 1975. She also volunteered her time at the Senior Center for ten years and took special interest in the diabetics. In her leisure time, Hattie enjoyed literature, sewing, flowers and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Sarah Marie in 1926, three brothers, William. Max, and Albert Walde, one sister, Minnie Moeller, four sisters-in-law, Lillian Walde, Alice Walde, Olla Walde and Alma Walde and one brother-in-law, Wallace Larson.
Survivors include two sisters, Rose Larson of Eventide; Irene Smith and her husband, Howard of Carroll; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, July 3, 1997 at the United Presbyterian Church, Denison, Iowa. Rev. Thomas Buzbee officiated the services and grave side rites held at the Vail Cemetery, Vail, Iowa. Ann Voggesser provided the organ accompaniment for congregational singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Have Thine Own Way, Lord". Hattie (Boger) Kahl (1901 - 1990)
Hattie Kahl was born the daughter of Fritz and Ida Schlueter Boger on Feb. 23, 1901 in Paradise Township, and died Oct. 4, 1990 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of 89 years.Hattie was born on the family farm in Paradise Township where she grew up and received her education in a rural school near her home.
While at home, she helped on the farm where she remained until Oct. 15, 1919 when she was united in marriage to Herman Kahl. They made their home on a farm in Washington Township near Buck Grove where they were blessed with two sons and four daughters. They lived on the farm for more than 50 years before retiring, and remained there for several years after retirement.
In 1925, Hattie was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage by the Rev. Wm. Frese, and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove and St. John's Ladies Aid.
As a mother, Hattie worked hard for her children, insuring their Christian education and caring for them in the home. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, tatting and crocheting, and spent much of her spare time in her flower garden. She was a devoted wife and loving mother to her children who will remember her affection forever.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; one son; one grandson; and one great grandson; two brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include one son, Earl and his wife, Dorothy of Nora Springs; four daughters: Dorothy and her husband, Boyd Hulsebus of Dow City, Norma and her husband, Glenn Petersen of Denison, Donna and her husband, Robert Ahart of Denison, and Irene and her husband, Arlyn Schulz of New Ulm, Minn.; one daughter-in-law, Doris Kahl of Dow City; 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Larry Lemke officiated at the services with interment in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Hazel M. (Curd) Jensen (1905 - 1998)
At age 92, Hazel Jensen, a resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico, died peacefully in her sleep on July 1, 1998. She lived with her daughter, Georgia Gail Ortiz, and husband Andy since 1990. In 1995 she fell and subsequently moved into a boarding home for ladies in Santa Fe.She was preceded in death by her parents Dora Etta Brown Curd Macentum and Bret Curd and step-father Henry Macentum and beloved husband Bernhard Jensen along with a sister, Hermia Fastje, and brother, Leonard Curd.
She was born December 2, 1905 in Superior, Minnesota but the family moved to Crawford County when Hazel was quite young. She married Bernhard Jensen and they enjoyed 46 years of marriage on a farm near Schleswig and also in Schleswig from 1943 thru 1989.
Hazel was active all of her life as a Sunday School teacher, 4-H Club leader, substitute school teacher, member of the Women's Guild and Dorcas Society at the United Church of Christ where you would find her quilting many days a week. She was also an avid bridge player.
She is survived by daughter Georgia Gail Ortiz and husband Andy of Santa Fe and granddaughter Teresa Manherz and husband Tim of Houston, sisters-in-law Clara Jensen, Adela Jensen and Catharine Jensen and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.
Memorial service was held at Berardinelli Memorial Chapel, Santa Fe, on July 6th, Homer Southerland officiating and Frances CdeBaca giving the eulogy. There will be a graveside service on September 18, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at Morgan Cemetery, Schleswig, with Rev. Hoyt officiating. Coffee and dessert will be served following the service at United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall.

Hedwig Paulina Henrietta (Koch) Abbe (1905 - 1999)
Hedwig Paulina Henrietta Abbe was born March 13, 1905, the daughter of Paul and Marie Riessen Koch. She died at her home in Schleswig, Iowa, Monday, September 20, 1999 at the age of ninety-four.Hedwig was born on a farm in Grant Township, near Ida Grove, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ, April 9, 1905 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grant Township and later confirmed there on April 13, 1919. She received her education at a rural school near her home and after completing her education, Hedwig helped her family on the farm.
On December 30, 1925, Hedwig was united in marriage to Albert Abbe at Trinity Lutheran Church. They farmed in Ida County and were blessed with two sons, Vernis and Orlan.
Hedwig, moved to Schleswig in 1952 and worked as a cook at the Schleswig School for twenty-one years. After retiring she enjoyed making quilts for her family and helping with quilting at church for World Relief. Hedwig also did lots of sewing and crocheting for her family as well as her friends. Her last years she enjoyed a good game of cards, especially playing rummy with her brother, Albrecht. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and a member of Immanuel's Ladies Aid since 1969.
Hedwig was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1938; two sons, Vernis in 1958 and Orlan in 1997; six brothers, Rudie and in infancy, Robert, Roland, Lester and twins, Marvin and Harvey; six sisters, Malinda Koch, Helen Sonksen, Doretta Fonken, Marjorie Germeroth, Luella Robinson and in infancy, Viola; also four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
Survivors include two daughters-in-law, Darlene Abbe of Schleswig; Ruby Miller of Missouri; five grandchildren, Roberta Taylor and her husband, John of Hastings, Minnesota; Sherry Rainier and her husband, Jim of Hackettstown, New Jersey; Larry Abbe and his wife, Anne; Keith Friedrichsen and his wife, Robin; Terry Abbe and his wife, Sally, all of Schleswig; thirteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Also one sister, Selma Fredericks; two brothers, Albrecht Koch; Don Koch and his wife, Donna, all of Schleswig and one brother-in-law, Cleo Robinson and his wife, Bernice of Danbury; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, September 24, 1999 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Grant Township, in Ida Grove, Iowa. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Nearer, My God to Thee", "My Faith Looks Trustingly" and "Abide with Me". Helena Emma (Ohm) Bruhn (1906 - 1994)
Helena Emma Bruhn was born on February 17, 1906 to Otto and Martha (Giermann) Ohm. She was reborn into the Kingdom of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism in the same year. She reconfirmed her baptismal covenant with her Lord through the rite of Confirmation in 1919 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton.On November 29, 1925 she married Leo Bruhn at St. Matthew's. God blessed the marriage with a son, Dale and a daughter, Corinne. They farmed for many years in Soldier Township near Ricketts, until 1965. They then moved to Manning, where they managed the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. They retired at the end of the year 1974, moving to Mapleton on January 1, 1975. Leo passed away October 20, 1989.
She was presently a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church at Mapleton. She faithfully and willingly served her Lord being active in such capacities as organist for 50 years, serving at Immanual Lutheran Church, Soldier Township and at St. Luke's Ricketts, where she was a charter member. She was Superintendent and guided the many church educational programs: she was past President of LWML, and a member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, Braille Transcription Committee, who along with many volunteers transcribed, packaged and sent Sunday School material for the blind all over the world. The library of Congress Braille Board awarded her a diamond pin for her many years of service. Throughout the years she enjoyed crocheting for her family as well as 72 quilts for Lutheran World Relief.
Helena is survived by her son, Dale of Mapleton and her daughter, Corinne and her husband, Robert Friedrichsen of Marshfield, Wisconsin, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a sister, Hulda Buenger Aurelia.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Kathy.

Helena Katrina (Greder) Mitchell (1905 - 1996)
Helena Katrina Greder Mitchell was born on a farm east of Buck Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Salome Deiber Greder. She died on Friday, July 5, 1996 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of one hundred years, seven months and fifteen days.Helen grew up on the family farm and received her education in a rural school near her home. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 4, 1909 at German Evan St. Patrick in Washington Township, Crawford County.
She began working with her parents on the farm at an early age and remained with them after completing her education. In addition to her work on her parents' farm, she helped the neighboring family with their farm work.
On September 22, 1917, Helen was united in marriage to Benjamin Mitchell at the home of Rev. Leonard Butterworgh in Dow City, Iowa. The couple were blessed with the birth of seven children.
Helen enjoyed her leisure time crocheting, sewing and was a very good cook. She served as a midwife for families in Dow City and served as the Bethlehem Lutheran Church custodian for forty years. Additionally, she was employed as the janitor for the Dow House for many years as well as wall papering, painting and home cleaning. She was able to remain in her home until moving to Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison in September of 1994. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City and a member of their ladies aid.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, in 1956, one daughter, Florence; three grandchildren, two great-grand-daughters and one great-great- granddaughter, one daughter-in-law, Mary Mitchell, five sisters, Edna Hitz, Anna Pokomey, Clara Greder, Mildred Lietz and Selma Kackmeister, five brothers, Fred, Arthur, Peter, Walter, and Kenneth.
Survivors include: four sons, Robert and his wife, Bess Louise of Tucson, Arizona; Bryce and his wife, Maria of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Melvin of Phoenix, Arizona; and Leonard of Fort Dodge, Iowa; two | daughters, Marjorie Bahr and her ,husband, Don of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Betty Jean Meade and her husband, Earl of Bennington, Nebraska; twenty-six grandchildren, forty-four great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Ed Lietz of Auburn, Iowa; two brothers, David Greder and his wife, Violet , of Johnstown, Nebraska; and Paul Greder of Clovis, California; and one brother-in-law, Henry Lietz of Spencer, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, 1996 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City, Iowa. Rev. Larry Lemke officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City. Sherry Ketelsen provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Just a Closer Walk With Thee", "In the Garden", "Heaven is My Home", and "Beautiful Savior". Honorary pallbearers were: Jerry Lietz, Curt Bahr and Greg Mitchell. Those serving as pallbearers were: Steve Mitchell, Patrick Schleisman, Cody Pinkham, John Mitchell, Richard Lietz, Joe Mitchell, Ron Meade and Bob Mitchell. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at Brasel Hall, served by the Ladies Aid. Helen J. (Wellendorf) Kastner (1900 - 1993)
Helen J. Kastner was born February 4, 1900, the daughter of Theodore and Annie Stenge Wellendorf. She died on Friday, May 14, 1993 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-three years.Helen grew up in Grant Township, Ida County, Iowa where she was born. She was baptized and confirmed in the Friedens Reformed Church in Schleswig and received her education in a rural school near her home. As a young girl, she helped the neighbors with house work and cared for her brothers after her father died.
On February 28, 1923, Helen was united in marriage to Robert Kastner by Rev. Wetzler at Schleswig. The couple settled on the Kastner farm near Kiron and were blessed with the birth of three children. In November of 1955, Robert died and Helen continued living on the farm until 1956 when she moved to Schleswig.
In June of 1958, Helen was united in marriage to Louie Kastner and the couple remained in Schleswig. After Louie died, she remained in Schleswig until moving to the nursing home in Denison in November of 1991. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother who cared for her family with diligence. She loved to cook and enjoyed crocheting and socializing at cards.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Robert and Louie; one son, Orben; three brothers, William, Albert and Harry; two half brothers, Marvin and Walter Wellendorf; one half sister, Rose Jurgensen; two sons-in-law, Bob Harm and August Maack; two stepchildren, Burness Kastner and Lois Knief; two grandchildren Carian Cheryaleen Harm; and two step-grandchildren, Karen Miller and Edward Kastner.
Survivors include two daughters, Marian Harm and her husband, Irvin of Denison and Norma Rehan and her husband, Ed of Sioux City, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Kastner of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; twelve grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Also, one brother, Edwin Wellendorf and his wife, Bernice of Audubon; one half-brother, Harvey Wellendorf and his wife, Ruth of Schleswig; one sister-in-law, Doretta Wellendorf of Denison; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 17, 1993 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. James Schatz officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Evelyn Johnson provided the organ music and Wendi Miller provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Henry Henningsen singing "The Lord's Prayer" and "Just as I Am, Without One Plea." Honorary Pallbearers were: Roberta Jepsen, Ronald Kastner, Robert Kastner, Gayle Knief, Aria Woerth and Gary Knief. Helen Dora (Jensen) Johannsen (1909 - 2000)
Helen Dora Johannsen was born February 4, 1909, the daughter of John and Katie Krieger Jensen. She died at the Eventide Lutheran Nursing Home in Denison, Iowa, Saturday, August 5, at the age of ninety-one.Helen was born on a farm in Crawford County, northwest of Schleswig, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig which now is the United Church of Christ.
On February 5, 1930, Helen was united in marriage to Peter Emil Johannsen in Schleswig. The couple settled on a farm in the area and to this union three children were born.
She was a dedicated, life long member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig and was a member of the Women's Guild. She was a devoted, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who saw to the needs of her family with delight. In 1970, she and Pete celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary.
In her leisure time, Helen enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, traveling, making quilts for her family and socializing with family and friends in a game of cards. She was blessed to have had many life long friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Pete in 1970, and one brother, Roy Jensen. Survivors include: two daughters, Marleen Fish and her husband, Verne of Lakewood, Colorado; Sharon Shogren and her husband, Dennis of Bartlett, Illinois; one son, Murlin and his wife, Betty of Schleswig; seven grandchildren; one step-grandchild, Steven Fish; six great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Rubie Kastner singing "In the Garden" and "Nearer, My God, to Thee". Those serving as pallbearers were: Jonathan Shogren, Michael Shogren, Craig Johannsen, Shawna Regier, Leisha Kragel, Bryan Moore and Jean Flynn. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to return to the church for fellowship and lunch, served by the Women's Guild. Helen Johanna (Lehmann) Woebke (1902 - 1986)
Helen Johanna Woebke was born on April 13, 1902 in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa the daughter of Ernest Henry and Emilie Burmeister Lehmann. She died Tuesday afternoon, January 7, 1986 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, at the age of 83.Helen spent her formative years in the Denison community. She was baptized on August 3, 1902 and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 1, 1917 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She received her formal education in the Zion Lutheran School.
Helen was united in marriage to William Woebke on January 11, 1922 at the Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. William Frese. Together they made their home on a farm in Crawford County. They retired from an active farming life in 1960 and made their home in Denison. William died on December 2, 1961. Helen continued to make Denison her home until entering the Eventide Lutheran Home in August of 1977. Helen was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by three sons, Herman, Albert, and Alvin, four grandchildren, one great grandson, and two brothers Ernest and Carl.
Survivors include three sons, Walter of Ida Grove, Willie of Forest Grove, Oregon, and Marvin of Denison, and four daughters, Helen, Mrs. Melvin Ladwig of Ida Grove, Alma, Mrs. John Poggensee and Frieda, Mrs. Albert Adams Jr. both of Denison, and Betty, Mrs. Robert Klink of Westside. She is further survived by one sister Elfrieda Behm of Florida, twenty-five grandchildren, and thirty-six great grandchildren as well as a hot of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 9, 1986 at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran church in Denison. Interment was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. The Rev. Donald D. Fraker officiated at the services and graveside rites. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist for the services with Mrs. Elizabeth Kuehl serving as soloist. Selections by the soloist were the Old Rugged Cross and Just As I Am with Rock Of Ages, Cleft For Me as the congregational hymn. Serving as pallbearers for the services were grandsons, Larry Woebke, Neil Woebke, Danny Woebke, Ronnie Ladwig, Charles Poggensee, David Adams, Robby Klink, Wayne Woebke, Donnie Woebke, Steve Woebke, Terry Woebke, Ricky Ladwig, and Bob Adams. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Helen Marie (Keating) Fredericks (1903 - 1999)
Helen Marie Fredericks was born July 3, 1903, the daughter of John and Anna Plough Keating. She died at the Eventide Nursing Home in Denison, Iowa, Monday, April 5, 1999 at the age of ninety-five.Helen was born on a farm in Paradise Township, Denison, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith as a child. She was raised on the farm, and received her education in the rural schools.
On February 5, 1930, she was united in marriage to Henry C. Fredericks in Denison. This union was blessed with one daughter, Darlene. Helen helped her husband on the farm, and as an accomplished seamstress, she sewed for herself and other families as well. She enjoyed the neighborhood dances, birthday parties and card clubs. The couple farmed until March of 1966, when they retired and moved into Denison.
Helen was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, the Legion of Mary and St. Rose Ladies' Guild. She entered the Eventide Nursing Home in March of 1993.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry in 1968, her daughter, Darlene in 1988, her sister, Florence and her brother, Francis.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Rondel Murray and his wife, Julie of Carroll, Cindy Larson and her husband, Tim and greatgrandson, Jared Larson of Ames, a son-in-law, Don Murray and his wife, LaVonne of Ida Grove, one niece, Karla Kaye Cale and her husband, Glenn of Carroll, cousins and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 A.M., Thursday, April 8, 1999 at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa. Fr. Andrew Hoffmann served as Celebrant with interment at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, Denison. Jean Cornelius provided the organ accompaniment for the St. Rose of Lima Choir. Pallbearers were: Leroy Fredericks, Timothy Larson, Rondel Murray, Richard Penn, Warren Hawn and Glenn Cale. A Legion of Mary Rosary was held at 4 P.M. and Parish Wake Service at 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday at the Huebner Funeral Home. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the Parish Center, served by the Altar Society. Helen Marie (Moffit) Schultz (1909 - 1993)
Helen Marie Schultz was born June 26, 1909, the daughter of George and Johanna Brosnahan Moffit. She died at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa on Tuesday, October 19, 1993 at the age of eighty-four years.Holly, as she was better known, was born in Chicago, Illinois and received her education in the Chicago School District. After completing her education, she was employed by Commonwealth Edison in Chicago.
On January 24, 1943, Holly was united in marriage to Leonhardt Schultz at her brothers home in Elmhurst, Illinois. She remained in Illinois until Leonhardt was discharged from the U.S. Army. The couple subsequently settled in Schleswig where they worked in his father's hardware store.
In December of 1992, Leonhardt entered the Morningside Nursing Home in Ida Grove and he was joined by Holly in January of 1993.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her husband, Leonhardt at the Morningside Nursing Home in Ida Grove, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 22, 1993 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig, Iowa with Rev. Andrew Currao officiating the service and grave side rites held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Hanover Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Urb Badenhop singing "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound" and "Abide With Me". Helma Margaret (Laumbach) Rusch (1908 - 2000)
Helma Margaret Rusch was born on a farm in rural Mapleton, Crawford County, Iowa, August 9, 1908, the daughter of Henry and Emma Seehusen Laumbach.She was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism when she was an infant and confirmed in her Christian Faith in 1922 at Presho, South Dakota. She was raised on the farm at Presho, South Dakota receiving her formal education in the rural schools. Following her education she returned to Mapleton where she was employed in domestic work for her aunts.
On September 25, 1934, Helma was united in marriage with Harvey Rusch at Elk Point, South Dakota. Their union was blessed with five children, Beverly, Merlin, Lois May, Larry and Janice. They farmed in Crawford and Ida Counties moving to their Paradise Township farm in 1957.
After their retirement from farming they moved to Denison in 1980. When her health permitted Helma enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gardening and canning, walking and dancing. In earlier years she was a member of the Zion Ladies Aid and a local Square Dance Club.
Due to failing health Helma moved to Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, Iowa, March 16, 1995 and it was there her death occurred Wednesday evening, July 12, 2000. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 91 years, 11 months and 3 days. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Including her parents Helma was preceded in death by three children, Merlin, Larry and Lois May Rusch, two granddaughters, Jean Ann Rusch and Tammy Wunschel, one great grandson, Jeff Dixon, four brothers, Edward, Walter, Raymond and Arlo Laumbach and three sisters, Alice Laumbach, Irene Mason and Madaleine Smith.
Those who remain to cherish her memory include her husband of over 65 years, Harvey Rusch of Wall Lake, Iowa, two daughters, Beverly and husband, Duane Wunschel of Wall Lake and Janice and husband, Ray Harris of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, one daughter-in-law, Theonne Rusch Kolls of LaQuinta, California, six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one sister, Martha Booth of Fort Pierre, South Dakota, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 15, 2000 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and the Rev. David M. Sewing officiating. Music for the service included Larry Boeck singing "Old Rugged Cross" and the congregation singing "Rock of Ages, Cleft For Me" and "Let Us Ever Walk With Jesus". Karen Kahl served as organist. Casket bearers included Chris Mumm, Michael Nollen, Randy Nollen, Ross Rusch, Roger Rusch and Rick Wunschel. Interment was at Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Henny (Ketelsen) Feddersen (1907 - 1989)
Henny Feddersen, the daughter of Johannas and Margaret Petersen Ketelsen was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany on Aug. 17, 1907, and died on May 11, 1989, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, at the age of 81 years, eight months and 25 days.Henny grew up on a farm in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and received her education there. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On Feb. 9, 1930, Henny and Meinhard Feddersen were united in marriage in the Lutheran Church in Hattstedt, Germany. This union was blessed with ten children. They left their home country and ventured to America, landing in Cushing, Ia., in March of 1930.
They started farming near Deloit in 1934 and in 1943, they purchased a farm west of Denison. They lived there until retiring in 1968 and moved to Denison. They joined the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison in 1934. She was a member of Zion Ladies Aid since 1969. She was also a member of several card clubs since moving to Denison, which she enjoyed very much.
Preceding Henny in death were her parents; four sisters and one brother, all of West Germany; one brother of Chicago, Ill.; and two great-grandchildren.
Surviving her are her husband, Meinhard of Denison; children: Margaret Ann and husband, Leonard Hagemann of Schleswig, Julia Faye and husband, Wilbert Prussing of Charter Oak, Maxine Garrett of Denison, John Feddersen and wife, Gloria of Dow City, Betty and husband, Merlin Guy of Audubon, Elfreida and husband, Jim Waldemar of Deloit, Jenny and husband, Lou Barricie of Long Beach, Calif., Hans Feddersen and wife, Mary of Adairsville, Ga., Joleen and husband, Ronald Vincent of Liberal, Kan., Ronald Feddersen and wife, Barbara of Brighton, Colo., and Alan Garrett of Dow City. Also surviving are 38 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; four sisters; one brother and sister-in-law, all of West Germany and one sister-in-law, Laura Feddersen of Sioux City; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 13, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated at the services with interment in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Mrs. Karen Kahl was organist for Henry Henningsen as soloist. Selections were "Rock of Ages" and "How Great Thou Art." The congregational hymn was "I'm But A Stranger Here." Honorary pallbearers were Gary Guy, Craig Hagemann, Kenneth Hagemann, Stan Lambert, Steven Lambert, Carson Feddersen, Douglas Prussing and Steuart Lambert. Henrietta Bertha (Schultz) Schmadeke (1907 - 2003)
Henrietta Bertha Schmadeke was born December 25, 1907, the daughter of Louis and Mary Huebner Schultz. She died January 4, 2003, at the Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt, Iowa at the age of ninety-five.Hattie was baptized in Christ January 5, 1908, and confirmed April 9, 1922 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township. She also received her education at the Hanover Parochial School. After school, she began working for various families keeping house.
On April 24, 1927, she was united in marriage to August (Pat) Schmadeke at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The couple settled on a farm near Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of two children. The couple continued to farm until 1965, when they retired. In 1978, Hattie and Pat moved to Schleswig, where Hattie continued to live until 1998, when she moved to the Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt.
She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, crocheting, making ceramics, playing cards and socializing with her friends and family. She was known for her wonderful cooking; especially her fried chicken, gravy, and apple pies. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was always a good sport. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Immanuel Ladies Aid, the Farmeretts, and the Birthday Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pat; three sisters; Irene Miller and her husband, Pete; Ellen Nemitz and her husband, Bill; and Esther Rabe and her husband, Walter; one brother, Art; one grandson, Lance Schmadeke; one great-granddaughter, Charity Biddle; one step-great-granddaughter, LeeAnn McKibben; one step-great-great-grandson, Maxwell McKibben; one daughter-in-law, Carol Schmadeke; and one brother-in-law, George Moeller.

Henrietta (Jensen) Friedrichsen (1906 - 1991)
Henrietta (Hattie) Friedrichsen was born January 31, 1906, the daughter of Henry and Emma Clausen Jensen. She died Wednesday, July 17, 1991 at the Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, Iowa at the age of 85 years.Hattie was born near Denison, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm near Denison and received her education from the Crawford County Public Schools.
She was united in marriage with Knud Friedrichsen, February 18, 1925 in Denison, Iowa and were blessed with three children. The couple settled on a farm near Schleswig, Iowa where they remained until moving to Kiron in 1940.
In addition to attending her family, Hattie worked at various jobs while living in Kiron. The compassion she had for those less privileged than her was evidenced by the knitting she did for charitable organizations. In 1956, she moved to Denison and worked at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1968.
After retirement, Hattie remained in Denison until 1990 when she moved to the Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, Iowa. Her memberships include the First United Methodist Church in Denison and the United Methodist Women circle number one.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Knud, and one brother. Survivors include her three children: Clarence Friedrichsen and his wife Ruby of Kiron, Iowa; Glen Friedrichsen and his wife Maryann of Dimondale, Michigan; and Joyleen Swanson and her husband Dennis of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Also seven grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren and one sister, Erma, Mrs. Harold Monson of San Diego, California.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 20, 1991 at the First United Methodist Church of Denison, with Dr. Edward Peterson officiating the service and the grave side rights held in the Garden of Devotion of the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. Nancy Miles served as organ accompanist for Henry Henningsen singing solo arrangements of "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace" with the congregation singing "How Great Thou Art." Honorary pallbearers were Grant and Marc Swanson. Pallbearers were Christine Henrietta Friedrichsen, Peter Friedrichsen, Neal Friedrichsen, Ross Friedrichsen, Dennis Swanson and Lois Bengford. The family invited everyone attending the service to return to the church for fellowship and lunch served by the United Methodist Women. The Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home of Denison, Iowa was in charge of the arrangements.
